The Black Series 3.75" / Re: Black Series Rumors
« on: May 28, 2014, 09:06 PM »
Same here.  I think Hasbro has pretty much been keeping to their word about these multipacks.  Either they're all re-issues, or all/mostly new.  And I'm with you on this point Jesse:  if they start sneaking in 1 or 2 new figures in a set of 6 or 8 with a rehashed vehicle or creature?  That's just uncool and manipulative.

Clearly, the Battle on Endor pack appears to be all repacks.  Just running through what's in there:
-AT-ST - I'm thinking that this is the 4th offering, correct?  There was the SOTDS Target exclusive, the K-Mart exclusive TVC version and the WalMart exclusive TLC version
-Stormtrooper (uncertain of the version)
-AT-ST Driver - from the K-Mart exclusive set
-Imperial Officer - from the K-Mart exclusive Death Star Scanning Crew set
-Ewoks - from the TRU exclusive Movie Heroes Ewok set
-Chewbacca - Early Bird version
-Han Solo (Endor) - VTSC version
-Leia (Endor - minus helmet & poncho) - VTAC version

Now if we're looking at all new for the other sets?  I'd definitely be happy.  But I get the feeling that Hasbro may want to get more mileage out of that Rancor they put together for the Target exclusive.  And the other potential figures that would likely fill out that pack have all been made within the past few years:  Malakili, Giran, Oola, the Gamorrean Guards, etc.  Taking that into consideration, I think that the Rancor set is almost certainly going to be all reissues.  To do otherwise would be bizarre.

As for the Cantina Showdown?  I'm hopeful here that maybe Hasbro can surprise me.  When I saw the name, I instantly thought of the old POTF2 Cinema Scene with Dr. Evazan, Ponda Baba and Obi-Wan Kenobi.  Hence my previous post.  I hope Hasbro has a sense of history though, and recognizes that particular scene has been done before.  Sure, the new sculpts are infinitely better than their POTF2 predecessors.  But what about something new?

Personally, I'm hoping for a booth with Han Solo and Greedo.  If Hasbro was feeling daring, I think they should call it "Han shot first".  I don't know if they're prepared to go out on a limb like that, though.  I would be okay with re-worked versions of Han Solo and Greedo for this set.  And maybe have a nearby table of 2 Cantina patrons that haven't been done before.  THAT is a Cantina Showdown set that I'd like to see.

The Black Series 3.75" / Re: Black Series Rumors

The RS posting had some prices attached to it.  Mind you, all of the prices were in GBP.  Here are the prices for each set:

Battle on Endor:  £99.99 price tag ($168 USD) - AT-ST + 8 figures (7 if you consider the 2 Ewoks as being the equivalent of one basic figure)

Cantina Showdown:  £39.99 ($67 USD)

Jabba's Rancor Pit:  £129.99 ($220 USD)

I think the lineups are likely going to be somewhat proportional to the price points.

CANTINA SHOWDOWN - Maybe 4 - 6 figures, tops.  I think it's probably going to include:  Luke Skywalker, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Ponda Baba, Dr. Evazan and perhaps one or two other Cantina patrons

JABBA'S RANCOR PIT:  The last Rancor set with Luke retailed for $50.  With the rise in prices I think it would probably sell for $70 - $80 now.  At this price, I'm thinking we get the following:  Rancor, Jedi Luke (hopefully the sandstorm version), Gamorrean Guard, Malakili, Giran, Bib Fortuna, Slave Leia

At the very least I can see the paint sculpt being different on the At St. At least I hope. Would be nice to have different head sculpts on the Imperial Officer and At-St driver as well.

I feel very much the opposite regarding the head sculpts on the AT-ST Driver and Imperial Officer.  I would much rather see new head sculpts on these figures if they were being offered as carded basic figures, not part of a large exclusive pack that already has numerous repacks.  And let's not forget that this is probably going to retail for somewhere between $60 and $80.

I saw ONE 6" Black Widow, and that was at a Target store.

I saw a 3.75" Cap in his WW2 gear during the week.  But Falcon still seems to be somewhat elusive.

Tippet the Ewok is one of the two in this set.  Tippett was packed in the TRU exclusive multipack that came out in 2012.  The other Ewok appears to have the same hood as either Romba or Graak.  But the body/head looks different. - Scratch that.  It looks like the second Ewok is from the TRU multi-pack, too.  The grinning one is Flitchee.

Uck.  Really, Hasbro?  I may have liked the sculpts on some SL figures like the 501st Clone in the Mission Series 2-pack, or the basic carded Stormtrooper.  But this Snowtrooper reminds me of a terrible mashup of a vintage Kenner Snowtrooper and the 2006 TSC Snowtrooper.  Not a fan.

There's been a significant shakeup in an upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe project.  According to Superherohype, Ant-Man director Edgar Wright is out!  The statement from Marvel studios is as follows:

Quote
Marvel and Edgar Wright jointly announced today that the studio and director have parted ways on Ant-Man due to differences in their vision of the film. The decision to move on is amicable and does not impact the release date on July 17, 2015. A new director will be announced shortly.

The Sequel Trilogy / Re: Star Wars Episode VII

I think the muppet was an attempt to show that JJ Abrams & company recognize some of the pitfalls that befell the PT and they're far more interested in capturing the essence of the OT with a more old school approach.  It reminds me of something that was said on Agents of SHIELD:  people often misconstrue the words new and improved.  Just because something is new doesn't make it better.

Worst part: The scene set in 1999 that features a kid playing with a 2004 LEGO Snowspeeder. Do they REALLY think they can get away with BS like that?

Let me guess:  your favorite part of Argo was the end credits sequence with the vintage Early Bird kit and X-Wing, right?

I haven't even un-boxed mine yet.  I'm in the midst of a massive loose Star Wars figure organization project, and that's been getting the majority of my attention for the past few weeks.

The Clone Wars '08-'13 / Re: Cancelled The Clone Wars Toys :(
« on: May 20, 2014, 09:27 PM »
I like the fact that some late Clone Wars offerings appear to be making their way into the Saga Legends line.  Especially the Jedi Temple Guardian.

I get the sense that some of these figures may have already been in development before the plug was pulled on the Clone Wars animated series.  I hope that was the case because it might mean a little more articulation for those characters.

I think we're only going to know for certain about these figures when SDCC rolls around and we see some hard copies.  The poster only gave us a rundown of the characters.

The new trailer has gotten me that much more interested in checking out this movie.  I have zero knowledge of the comic going into this, but the film definitely looks worth checking out.  I'm guessing that the shadowy figure was Ronan the Accuser.  No sign of Thanos, though.  Hmmmm.

I picked up a Ned Stark a few weeks back.  The likeness was better than I expected.  Ned is in his King's Landing gear.  I would've liked him to have his cloak.  Especially since Ned comes with both his regular sword as well as Ice, his great sword.

LOL!  It's almost three years since A Dance with Dragons was released.  Before that, it had been six years since A Feast for Crows was published.  And there was a five year gap between AFFC and the third book in the series, A Storm of Swords.

I think we may still be waiting a little while for The Winds of Winter.  Although I do get the sense that the HBO series may have lit a fire under George R.R. Martin's ass.  I do get the sense that TWoW is going to be released before the HBO series catches up with the books.  But I'm not as optimistic about that happening with A Dream of Spring.
