Toy Reviews / #45 Governer Tarkin
« on: December 8, 2005, 07:31 PM »
I was pretty pysched to hear about a new Tarkin in the ROTS line, and even moreso to hear about his cameo in ROTS. I've been looking for this bad boy since april, and just a few days ago I found my bounty.

Sculpt:5/5
I love the sculpt on the good grand moff, it's very detailed and accurate. In ROTS Tarkin's officer uniform was, as far as I could tell, identical to his ANH uniform and all of the other Imperial Officer's dress tunics in the OT. The boots on this figure are wrong, in ROTS his boots are the same as in the OT, smooth. But on the figure they look more like combat boots. As cool as that is, I would've preffered film accurate boots. I believe Tarkin was played by Wayne Pygram in ROTS, and they nailed his likeness.

Articulation:4/5
Tarkin sports 10 points of articulation, pretty decent. I personally feel he could've used a couple more points, since with a simple customizing job, he could've been a generic OT officer.

Paint:5/5
They did a good paintjob on Tarkin, especially on the rank insignia. The rank insignia always seemed like a hard piece for the Big H to paint, but they executed it very well here.

Accesories:3/5
Tarkin includes an Imperial DC-15 rifle and a base. I think the good gov'nah could've used more accesories, such as the DS holo from the SAGA Sep Leaders Cinema Scene, a datapad like Shaak Ti's, a comlink and computer like Lobot, or even the little baton thing from Mon Mothma.

Army Builder Potential:5/5
With a simple headswap, Tarkin could be reborn as a generic Imperial Officer fairly easily. Not that i'm into customizing, but just a heads up for the customizers out there.

Overall:5/5
Tarkin was one of my most sought-after figures in the ROTS line, and he doesn't dissapoint. I vote him the single hardest figure in the ROTS line to find. Hes showing up in newer case assortments, so if you find him get 'im, hes a great addition to your Imperial Forces.

The Prequel Trilogy / Who was "Captain Kagi"?
« on: November 28, 2005, 02:21 PM »
Near the end of ROTS Palpatine says "Tell Captain Kagi to prepare my shuttle." Who is Captain Kagi? I speculate he would be an Imperial Officer, but he could also be a clone too.

Saga Collection '06 / "Behind The Mask" Collection
« on: November 19, 2005, 07:39 PM »
I had an idea for an awesome new line. You have a SA version of a character, say C-3P0, then you would have a removable mask or piece of armor to reveal Anthony Daniels, or the actor of the character. How's these for starters:

Wave 1:
-Anthony Daniels/C-3P0
-Peter Diamond/Scout Trooper

Wave 2:
-Kenny Baker/R2-D2
-Peter Mayhew/Chewbacca

Wave 3:
Jeremy Bulloch/Boba Fett
Richard Marquand/AT-ST Driver

Toy Reviews / Zett Jukassa
« on: November 12, 2005, 09:31 PM »
The old saying is, that if your in a Star Wars movie for at least 0.3 seconds, you get your own action figure and chapter in a "Tales from the..." book. Jett Lucas, GL's son, had a short cameo in ROTS as a Jedi who managed to take down a few 501st Stormtroopers before they gunned him down during the Jedi Purge.

Sculpt:4.5/5
The sculpt on Zett is very crisp and clean, and is a good sculpt of a character who only appeared in ROTS for around 15 seconds. One minor annoyence is that unless you spend 20 minutes trying to pose him just right, he has a hard time standing up. Fortunatly he includes a base.

Articulation:4/5
Jukassy sports 10 points of articulation. This is pretty good for a figure of his size, and he has wrist articulation so he can hold his saber with 2 hands. Good job Hasbro!

Paint:5/5
Zett has a very crisp and detailed paint job, and it looks just like it did in the movie. The boots are especially detailed, and have painted on boot buckles.

Accesories:5/5
Jukassa includes:
-Lightsaber hilt
-Lightsaber blade
-Jedi Temple base
The lightsaber is very good, and has a peg hole but no place to put it on his belt. The base is the "Tech" base weve been getting in a lot of figures in the ROTS line. I really like these bases were getting with ROTS figures, there almost like mini-playsets.

Overall:4.8/5
Zetts a pretty good figure, and had a cool cameo in ROTS. He looks cool displayed with your JTA or Tact. Ops Stormtrooper figures, and with other Jedi. He's pretty tough to find, but it looks like he's shipping in some newer case assortments, so keep your eye out for him.

Toy Reviews / General Grievous #36
« on: November 7, 2005, 10:37 PM »
On with the review...

Sculpt: 3.6/5
The sculpt here is so-so, while it is pretty good, Grievous looks like he's been chowing down on too much Imperial Ice Cream bars and Darth Dew Slurpees. He has some trouble standing up sometimes, but if you pose him just right, hes good to go.

Articulation: 2/5
Grievous has 5 points of articulation. What the ****? Was this a newly discovered vintage figure? I'm not much of an articulation wiz but come on, a figure needs at least 10 points, especially in this day and age.

Paint: 5/5
He actually has a very good paint job, it's what it should be and is very crisp. The eyes are especially detailed, and look great.

Accesories: 5/5
The Good General includes:
-Lightsaber
-CIS Blaster Rifle
-Cloak
He has a pretty good and diverse assortment of accesories. The lightsaber is great same as the rifle, and i'm glad we got these two as weapons instead of just four boring lightsabers. The cloak looks great, and it covers his entire body, not just his back.

Overall: 4/5
This version of The Good General doesn't dissapoint, but leaves some room for improvment, mostly in the articulation area. He has a cool cape, cool weapons, and this is my first Grievous after all. Pick him up, he's better than he looks.

Toy Reviews / Evo Clonetrooper To Stormtrooper
« on: November 3, 2005, 07:29 PM »
Today I received my Clone Evo set in the mail. When I saw the first pics of this set I knew I had to get this. 3 SA Army Builders for $20 is a steal!

E2/CW Clonetrooper:
This figure depicts the troopers seen in AOTC and most of the Clone Wars.
Sculpt: 5/5
My second favorite of the set, the sculpt on this trooper is dead-on. Very similar to the SA Clone but different.
Paint: 4.9/5
They decided to paint this trooper with the yellow "commander" markings seen on V1 Clones, and they did a good job on it. They also painted battle damage which annoys me slightly.
Articulation: 5/5
Although this clone isn't up to Hasbro's standard of SA, I'm not much of an articulation buff. He has 13 points, still very close to Hasbro's standard.
Overall: 5/5

E3 Clonetrooper:
This is a figure of one of Commander Bly's battalion of newly anointed Imperial Stormtroopers.
Sculpt: 5/5
The sculpt on this is nearly perfect, and captures the trooper very nicely. The kama is done very well, because the #33 Commander's kama looks a little too non-battle used, the way it curves out symetriclly. Both this trooper and Bacara have a kama that looks a little battle worn.
Paint: 4/5
The paint is just right, using the mustard color of Bly's troops. This trooper also sports battle damage, albeit a helluva lot more.
Articulation: 5/5
Not much to say here, it's up to The Big H's standard of articulation.
Overall: 4.7/5

Sandtrooper/Stormtrooper
My personal favorite of the set, this depicts one of the dreaded Stormtroopers.
Sculpt: 5/5
After seven tries, this is Hasbro's best version of the Imperial Trooper next to the VOTC Stormtrooper. The helmet is perfect, lightyears away from the 1995 version.
Paint: 4/5
The most noticable paint job on here is the dirt on the armor. There are two variations in the first set of the dirt, schmeard and sprayed. I got the sprayed version.
Articulation: 5/5
As I said before, I don't care that much about articulation, as long as its above nine points i'm good. He shares the same amount of articulation with his boxmate, the E2/CW Clone Trooper, 13 points.
Overall: 5/5

Accersories: 5/5
When I first heard of the Evo sets, I thought they'd just include a weapon for each character and be done with it. Quite the contrary. The Clone set includes:
-Heavy DC-15
-Imperial Style DC-15
-DC-17 Pistol x2
-The Sandtrooper's Big Ass Gun
-Sandtrooper Backpack
-Clone Pilot Helmet
-E3 Clone Helmet
-E2 Clone Helmet
Thats 9 accesories! Wow! My favorite would have to be the pilot helmet, as you can have 2 figures in one if you want.

I really like the Evolution Sets, and this one is one of the best. I higly advise picking it up to bolster your Republic Troops and Imperial Troops, but also because its just so damn cool.

Overall Score: 4.9/5

Star Wars Universe / When did the Empire change their eqiupment?
« on: October 12, 2005, 06:50 PM »
I was wondering, when do the Empire change their eqiupment between E3 and E4? Basicley from the ROTS Imperial Stormie armor, officer and tech uniforms, weapons, pilots, etc etc, to the Imperial gear seen in the OT and all EU after it? Is there currently a comic or book on this out?

Toy Reviews / AT-RT Pilot
« on: October 9, 2005, 04:20 PM »
I just purchased a AT-RT Pilot at Target so I'm doing a review. The AT-RT Pilots were seen doing some wholesome wookie huntin' at the end of the Battle Of Kayyshak. I'm pretty sure some were also ground troops during the battle.

Sculpt: 3.9/5
The sculpt is pretty much dead-on from what I can tell. The torso, arms and legs look much like a grunt clone. On his back he has a cool Scout Trooper-Esque survival pack thingy. The helmet looks very distinctive and features a cool antenea much like Bacara's. His belt looks similar to an Imperial Officer's, or AT-ST Driver's belt. It has a couple pouches on it and a couple clips are sculpted near the belt buckle.

Articulation: 4.9/5
This Pilot meets The Big H's standard of SA articulation. This can make him be put in a variety of poses, from piloting his AT-RT or BARC Speeder to getting his ass kicked by Yoda and Chewie. His legs however, are very hard to get to stand and he fell over a couple of times.

Paint: 5/5
His paint is a very good for a Jungle Ops Trooper, and It was'nt sloppy, at least not on my version.

Accesories: 4.9/5
I very much like his accesories. They include:
- DC-17 rifle
- Removable armor
- Missile-firing DC-15 (For the Kiddies)

His cool EU rifle looks exactley like the ones the Clone Commandos brandish in the XBOX game Republic Commando. The removable armor is very cool, and it sports battle damage to boot. This is how they should make General Veer's armor when he hopefully comes out in SAGA 2. This Pilot also has a Mongo Huge Missile-Firing DC-15.

Pricing: 5/5
$6 at most places.

Overall:
This is a very cool Imperial Trooper, and can be used as a Jungle Ops Clone, Turbo Tank Driver, Or the said AT-RT Pilot, and can be made with or without the battle damaged torso. That's the great thing about Hasbro, they give you options.

Daniel Logan (Boba in E2) will play a Lil' Boba Fett in a Live-Action show. Maybe him and a teenage Zuckuss will go panty-raiding and have all other sorts of wacky adventures.  :P

Edit: This thread can be closed since discussion could continue in the other T.V. show thread. Sorry.  :P
