Title: 2010 "Vintage" Collection Wave 4 - AotC
Post by: Jeff on February 3, 2010, 01:23 PM
So, according to info from Hasbro we should be seeing an AotC based wave this year...

Thoughts on who you'd like to see show up?  Have any line-up guesses based on Q&A answers?

Me?  I'm hoping for a new Padme (Senator Dress would be nice) and Cleigg Lars... oh, and maybe a new Zam Wessell for those that keep asking for one.

I don't know what the whole repack situation is, but I'd like to see a repack of the Evolutions Jango with the PROPER BLUE coloring, and possibly a repack of the Coleman Trebor from the Target Geonosis sets. I'd like a Meadow Picnic Padme but after seeing the ESB wave I wouldn't be surprised if we got "Clawed" Padme based off of the Evolutions figure.

New figures? I'd like Cliegg and Zam, possibly a new lil' Boba.

Zam is a definite want for me as is Clegg but I wonder if his hover 'round would fit with this bubble, unless he was released as a pre-maimed figure.  :P

Zam definitely needs an upgrade.
Cliegg would be nice, but you know Hasbro would just say, "He's not action oriented enough."
Boy Wonder Boba Fett would be a good consideration for this.

I can see Anakin and Obi-wan though as reissues, so long as they are the best articulated versions.

Damn, I can see me getting sucked into buying 2 of each of these, one to open and one carded....My wife is going to LOVE that...(sarcasm alert).

I'm fairly happy with what we have from AOTC, but I think my most wanted figure from this movie at this point would be a re-done Zam Wessell.  I was reorganizing the collection over the past couple weeks, and looking at the previous figures, they were pretty bad.  Plus, she's a fairly significant background character, with lines, and a bounty hunter to boot - so it would be good to see an all-new version.  Otherwise, I'm on board with Clegg Lars and little Boba as well.  Although the previous version was pretty nice itself, I wouldn't mind seeing what Hasbro could do with an all-new Dexter Jettster.  Maybe a tougher sell on these "vintage" cardbacks since he's a heftier figure, but the way the sculpting and articulation has improved, they could make it pretty spiffy.  Again, there are other figures that could probably be done first, but it might be cool to see.

AOTC has a lot of possibilities yet I think...

-The 2 human Jedi that toss Ani/Obi sabers
-Pablo Jill resculpt?  I'd like him more articulated for sure
-Super Duper Phase 1 Clone Trooper with ball-jointed hips and a removable helmet?
-Zam Wessel (my most wanted resculpt of this movie, hands down)
-Corrected Jango
-Training Fatigues Clone with better legs and both color uniforms?
-New young Boba Fett (though I believe Hasbro's all but said this one's off the table)
-New Senate Jar Jar (yeah, I said it!)
-other random background Jedi from the arena
-New Barriss Offee
-Dooku's Pilot Droid
-Some Outlander people
-New Pilot Padme
-New Pilot Typho
-New headsculpt Anakin
-Outlander Ani
-Outlander Padme
-Rickshaw Droid
-Cleig

Not a ton again, but there's some things to pick through from AOTC still I think.

I'd like to see:

Dorme
Bariss
Cleig
Dooku Pilot Droid

Mmm...

I am thinking the following have a good shot.

Kamino Obi Wan Kenobi (Rain slicked hair)
Kamino Jango Fett (with the backpack from that scene)
Anakin Coruscant
Zam Wessel
Yoda Duel
Count Dooku Duel

I am getting tired of Arena Anakin, Kenobi, Padme - Then again they have the most action in the arena.

Cleig would be great but I am not sure they want to make this guy.

I think Zam Wessel is a definite for this wave - I don't remember which site, but in their recent Q&A one of Hasbro's answers to a question about ultimate sculpts and updating sculpts, they specifically mentioned Zam Wessel as a figure that could use updating, so that to me is a good indicator that an update is coming. Otherwise, why specifically mention her? They could have just as easily said "Hoth Gear Leia"

A Jango Fett repaint has pretty much been locked up for this wave.  That one was confirmed right here (http://www.jedidefender.com/newspro/fullnews.cgi?newsid1260479120,75189,).  I think Jango is one of those characters that would actually look good on the vintage card.

As for the rest of the wave?  I'm hoping for these:

Zam Wessel resculpt
Dooku's pilot droid
Clone Trooper Captain (evolutions sculpt)
Eeth Koth
Padme - Arena battle

I agree, I think Dooku might be a strong candidate for this wave too.

I agree with what Pete said above, I think Hasbro specifically mentioning Zam was a tease that she will be coming in this wave.

Then if we get peasant Anakin, I'd want to have Catholic Saint Padme to go with him.

Then again, she'd just be another salt shaker figure. But cheap for Hasbro to make, due to the limited articulation...

One AOTC figure I'd like to see, and always forget to mention initially, is a re-done AOTC C-3PO.  I think there was talk of him possibly being included if we saw a "sequel" to the Geonosis packs at Target - but with all the "collector stuff" doom and gloom I'm not counting on that.  The best version we have is that old deluxe line version, and that one isn't even all that great.  With all the nice protocol droids we've gotten in the line (through Build a Droid), I'm sure it wouldn't be too tough to whip one up.

Sorry, it was reactionary. I can live without the rest of the shakers. They will only be thrown in a storage bin as figure foundation. I really hate the uselessness of them.

But I would hope the next Padme in line is the arena damage one.

Outlander Disguise Padme's one I'd like only to go wtih a new Anakin, so that one's on my list...  I'm not a huge Padme fan for her gowns though.  I wouldn't mind seeing the Evolutions Padme with a ripped deco though, like the last arena Padme.  The Evo figure's one of the best sculpts/likenesses of a modern figure IMO, so I'd be down for that repaint.  I was actually pondering that last night when I was reshuffling some figures on the shelving.

My prediction - this is tough

Zam Wesell
Padme (Outland Disguise)
Anakin Skywalker (SA new) - why not they redid Bespin Luke
Clone Trooper (SA new) - SA hips and removable Helmet
SA Barriss Offee
Cliegg Lars
Obi-Wan Kenobi (TLC repack)
Jango Fett (evoutions repack w/ corrected blue jumpsuit)
Count Dooku (evoutions repack)
Mace Windu (Geonsis 2pack repack)
Super Battle Droid  (repack)
Plo Koon (repack)

EXCELLENT IDEA

They can even reuse the SA protocol droid/4-LOM sculpt that they can't use on OT 3POs because of the chrome.

Redone AOTC 3PO is a great choice as well...  One I forget about too because I like the Deluxe one with the removable limbs/head and everything, but I think a new one is long overdue now.

I'd be down. A pretty easy one to create too if they simply repainted a TLC B.A.D. U3PO mold.

I also noticed that Hasbro specifically mentioned Zam Wesell as a more-than-likely candidate for an upgrade - why else would they so randomly mention her.

Zam, w/out a doubt, is a character I would snatch off the pegs without a second thought. I few kids would even buy her, she's that cool looking.

I'm not so sure if they would upgrade Barriss this year. Although they might get to her sometime, I think Hasbro would be more concerned giving her a slot in the TCW line considering all her recent appearances in the show.

My predictions/hopes (or pipe dreams in some cases...) for this wave...

TOTALLY NEW FIGURES:

-Boba Fett
-Zam Wesell
-Poggle the Lesser
-Cliegg Lars
-Taun We (properly scaled; remember what I said about pipe dreams?)
-C-3P0

RECARDS (Straight Up Reissues or Minor Mold Changes):

-Obi-Wan Kenobi (2009 TLC version)
-Anakin Skywalker (2005 Evolutions version)
-Jango Fett (correct color uniform with Boba-style backpack)
-Clone Trooper (2009 TLC Geonosis Assault Pilot version with regular CT helmet)
-Geonosian Warrior (2009 Target Arena version)
-Super Battle Droid (2008 30AC TRU STAP Battle Pack version; the silver one)

Zam Wessell
Jango Fett
Count Dooku
Sarssa Jeng
?
?

If that's the line up thus seems like a big meh. I down with Blue Jango Repack, Zam but the other two I am not so sure. While Dooku could use a new head sculpt as accurate as the ROTS one on the EVO body I am still happy with the EVO one. I would prefer a new Barris over Sarssa Jeng, the screaming Jedi that dies in the battle seems like exclusive pack in fodder to me and not worthy of a single card Vintage style.

My hope is Jango does not count as a new slot and is just a repack. My hope would be (Taking into account the STAN list):

"New"
Mace Windu (New Head sculpt and soft goods lower half)
Zam Wessell
Sarssa Jeng
Anakin Evo (with new Head Sculpt)
Count Dooku (with New Head Sculpt)
Fi-Ek Sirch

Repack/Redeco
Jango Fett (Blue refresh)
C-3P0 SAGA2 Sculpt repaint to look worn
Obi-Wan repack with Kamino Grapple Hook

Question for STAN

I saw you posted a hint about Target Geo Packs Wave 2. In that you listed:
Sarissa Jeng
Sar Labooda
Anakin
Padme

But you mentioned Sarissa Jeng on a single card in this thread. The Geo pack venue makes more sense since she is the poster character of a loser figure. Can you more clarity to the rumor?

As always thanks for the hints they are always fun to speculate on. I am betting the other two characters that may appear are the two loser who threw sabers to Ani and Obi. (The Foo Man Choo dirty hippie dude and bald guy) They can reuse the head from the Joker squad for the bald guy, just mold him with a tan and slap him on a Jedi body.

In fact I will make my line up prediction for series 2:
Sarissa Jeng with the 2002 Split apart Geonosian Warrior
Sar Labooda with a Battle Droid with EYES!!!!
Anakin with Dirty Hippie Saber Thrower
Padme with Clone Trooper
Obi-Wan with Bald Saber Thrower

Heard we were going to get these and that they MAY be show at the Hasbro Slide Show.  It's still in the air on which ones are carded and one that are coming in the sets.  The protoypes on this figures are completed.  Hopefully the info is right.  But I have to remind everyone Hasbro plans change all the time.  In all respect to Darth Anton who is still waiting on the new Slave 1 (which hopefully come to fruitation in 2011) and the speederbike (prototype completed) , I,m still waiting to....

Just a thought, but a Zam would look really good on a smaller Vintage bubble - since the female figures are always more petite, that would have been a lot of empty/wasted space on a, say, red/white Legacy package.

Also, the newer Vintage packagings are really restricted in terms of more figure/accessories. Think: we're now getting one (1) Ewok per card. A Darth Maul w/ a longer lightsaber wouldn't fit. And a Zam jam-packed w/ a rifle and alternate head wouldn't, either.  :(

I would definitly like a good SA version of Zam. And maybe, ONE day, they'll put Jango out with the correctly colored jumpsuit, but the SA figure is very cool. I think Jango and Boba are my son's fav characters, bounty hunter wise. But I'm not a completist so all the background jedi's are lost on me. But I still hold out for a Jocasta Nu and a re-release of Poggle the Lesser.

I'd be up for a Poggle The Lesser as well, but I'd prefer a revamp. Better paint apps and some more articulation, I'd like a ball joint in the middle so he can hunch over that cane of his.

we could also use a re-release of Aq-Med Bet and Capt Filoni (or whatever they called anthony daniels' character).  whether they upgrade the articulation or not, we need them released again. Oh and more clone troopers ;)

We do?

Those two aren't exactly hard to find now, aren't worth anything at all really...  I just saw them both for $4 each at the local toy show this past weekend.

I'd argue if they're re-released they at the very least need resculpted to make better versions of the actors without their masks on, but straight re-releases of the characters, I'd disagree with.  Wasted slots to me.   :-\

I doubt those two will ever see release again. While not terrible figures the awkward chest pose limits them. They need to make that hot chick they checked out Anakin. (She was standing next to the fat Twilek girl.) While I know it will never ghappen I would not mind some of the loser aliens walking the streets. If they ever make the Twilek masseuses I would not mind seeing them redeco the EP2 Bar Twilek girl. Again based on previous Q&A's Hasbro seems content with that scene in general.

if you are not interested in an articulation upgrade - why not just pick one up on the secondary market?  they are pretty plentiful.

personally I think those would be bad choices for re-releasing.

Gaps in your personal collection are really no excuse for slotting two VERY insignificant figures into the basic figure line.  Check eBay or a local toy show and you can score both of these for a very minimal cost.

I think it goes without saying that there's likely to be a Clone Trooper in this assortment.  As for anything else?  It's pure conjecture at this point.  I think one Arena Jedi is likely.  Dooku seems to be a strong candidate, too.  And Hasbro gave indications that a re-decoed Jango Fett is highly likely.

Also, this is set to be Wave 4 in the Vintage Collection.

The only aspect I disagree with is, if you are referring to generic ones, is the arena Jedi. I think they will be saved for Target Series 2. Not many left and the only one two that need upgrades are Barris and the Nikto.

In regards to the two bar guys, yeah the current ones are fine have good articulation and will never again need new development or rerelease ever again.
Title: Re: 2010 "Vintage" Collection Wave 4 - AotC

I see both Dooku and Jango as Greatest Hits type releases.  Hasbro stated explicitly that not all of the figures in the Vintage Collection would be all-new sculpts.  Jango would be a "make good" for the bad paint jobs.  And Dooku is a key villain that could stand to be re-released.  In that case the EVO Dooku/Darth Tyranus would be fine by me.

I think Shaak Ti needs an upgrade in addition to the two Jedi you mentioned. The Jedi robe figure hasn't been out since 2005, and that figure had a left arm with no articulation. I wouldn't mind seeing her in one of the Vintage waves or the second Arena series if it is made.

I could see Arena Jedi upgrades here and there...  Shaak Ti's a great example Greg, probably the best one, and I'd say the Weequay could slip out in some capacity again with knees.  The Nikto I could see getting upgraded too.  A lot of this depends on Hasbro's desire to upgrade all the arena Jedi...  Jedi are popular though.

I'd like to see the 2 humans that toss sabers to Obi/Ani at some point.  JACK's point about the Arena packs is a good one, but those may be in limbo as far as going further...  Exclusives are scaled back in 2010 like everything else, so I'm curious about those right now.

I was disappointed to read a while back that Hasbro considered Dexter Jettster to be "done". Although I don't dislike the figure we have now, I think his arms in particular, could benefit from the advances in articulation.

With that he would be able to scratch his gnarly alien butt and hug Obi.  :DHe is one of the few figures of my collection that is not displayed along with the Droid Waitress. I cringe at that scene every time I watch it. His figure from 2002 was nicely done and I have to agree with Hasbro not to revisit him. with so few slots to spare there are other much more deserving of resculpts.

I like the idea of despising a scene so much you can't have figures from it out on display! I'd like to know who else is hanging out in the sin bin with those diner guys.

I don't think I've got a scene like that, but I've definitely got some figures I just couldn't buy, no matter how accurate a representation they were, because I just didn't like the design.

From Yakface.com:

Quote
The Vintage Collection Wave 4
1x Zam Wiessel (24989)
1x Obi-Wan (24990)
1x Peasant Anakin (24991)
1x Peasant Padme (24992)
1x Jango Fett (24993)
1x Kit Fisto (24988)
1x Mace Windu (24994)
1x Blue Senate Guard (24995)
1x Super Battle Droid (24996)
1x Grievous with Cape (20824)
1x Sandtrooper (20832)
1x Darth Vader (97580)

AT LAST! Zam Wesell! It's about time that Hasbro upgrades her - and just in time for TVC, too! Peasant Anakin should be an exciting release, too, since he's an upgrade of the terrible Saga figure. Let's hope Padme sells well, too. Although Grievous' inclusion in this wave is questionable, it is acceptable in a way since he was present in the Battle of Geonosis, albeit only in the Geonosian catacombs.

Darth Vader's repack in this wave again is somewhat annoying being that he's also going to get repacked in the ROTJ wave. And hopefully Mace Windu has a more flexible skirt this time, and let's hope that Jango is painted his proper blue color.

Agreed on the Dooku instead of Fisto Scott, although if it is the recent "Arena" two pack version, I guess that is kind of cool.  Otherwise, if they are "getting figures out there" again just to put them on vintage cards for the first time, Dooku would sort of make more sense.  I guess there is always next year though.

As far as the new stuff, it sounds pretty good to me.  Zam was probably the figure I wanted the most from this movie at this point, since the first ones were pretty poor (and out a long time ago at this point), and the Outlander Anakin and Padme combo is pretty sweet too.  Honestly, I don't think there is too much else I really want from AOTC all that badly at this point, aside from a new 3PO and Cliegg Lars.

Hopefully they resculpt his head with his winning smile from the battle. ;D

I can say that with Zam being made, I'm pretty much also finished with AOTc - except maybe a few arena Jedi, but nothing over-the-top. Hopefully Shaak Ti gets an upgrade as well. Maybe Aayla Secura too, but I have a feeling she would be mader under a ROTS wave.

Non-themed/mixed waves are going to be starting following the TPM wave.  It's very likely that the characters you're talking about could be in any of a variety of waves in early 2011.

I think I'm going to feel like I've come full circle when I pick up this peasant Anakin. I got the original version as a joke present for my birthday one year and it ended up launching me into collecting the modern line.

Meh. The only thing I'm looking forward to in this wave is the Senate Guard and how they're going to handle the cape. Could be a pre-curser too an excellent Royal Guard.

I'm wondering how many of that wave will be upgraded and simply repacked...  There's some potentially very cool upgrades like the Senate Guard.  I could see Fisto getting a slight upgrade too.

Can't wait...  Of course Zam, and Ani/Padme are the best though.  I've wanted those 3 resculpts for eons now.

Action figures aside - this was a horrible-horrible movie.  Caught it on Spike again yesterday and Goonies on FX kept winning over.  The acting/story line just gets worse and worse everytime I see it.  The only redeeming points IMO are Kamino and the battle of Geonosis.

It may not have been the best Star Wars movie, but it sure as hell was action-packed. We got a first-ever speeder chase, plus some Outlander Club action, a platform fight against Jango Fett plus a space chase, a Tusken camp slaughtering, droid factory raid, arena battle and follow-up battle, plus a 3-part lightsaber duel. Whoo! I don't think ROTS had that much action... or did it?

However, I will say that the worst acting I've seen in the entire saga is in ROTS, when Anakin plainly tells an unusually calm Windu that he's discovered Palpatine's a Sith Lord. The novelization does a better job of telling this scene, citing that Anakin's having a mental breakdown, plus that Windu begins to get all serious.

At one point in the Q&A, Hasbro said the "greatest hits" repacks for this wave would be -
- EpII Obi-Wan (EpII wave)
- Mace Windu (EpII wave)
- Super Battle Droid (EpII wave)

The rest should have some degree of "newness" about them (though of course, it remains to be seen if they will be "brand new" new or just "improvements" new).

Sweet wave.  Zam is much needed.  I was hoping for a new pilot Padme, but the peasant one isn't bad, either.

I would expect that the Jango Fett in this wave is going to be a better painted version of the Evolutions release.  I'm also hoping that this version will also feature the rocket pack that's seen in the Kamino landing platform fight.  The one that was included in the Evolutions release was from the Geonosis Arena battle.

As for new characters in this wave?  I have to admit a bit of disappointment that there aren't any characters that have never been done before.  As for the rest?

The original peasant disguise Anakin was a pretty week figure, even in 2002.  This was definitely in need of an upgrade.  But will he come with Padme's luggage?

Padme is the only really new figure in the wave.  But which variation of this costume will Hasbro make?  Given the name, I'm thinking it will be the version seen on the freighter.

Zam Wessel is another figure that really needed to be upgraded.  She's involved in enough of the action that she should have gotten a pretty good figure.  It's remarkable that it's taken Hasbro 8 years to get around to it though.  And will they address the shapeshifting face?

The Senate Guard is actually something that I think needed to be upgraded.  A kitbash of the POTJ Senate Guard's head with the ROTS Senate Guard's body could work.  But still, the ROTS figure was limited by the angle cuts of the elbows.  And with this version I'm hopeful that they'll make this version with the force pike as seen when Yoda and Mace Windu are observing the Senate vote.

Kit Fisto is a bit of a head scratcher.  But the character's popularity has grown over time, especially with his appearances in the CLONE WARS series.  Still, I would have preferred a never before made Jedi from the arena battle before a new or kitbashed Kit Fisto.

So far all these Prequel waves are kind of a snooze fest to me. Zam sounds great, but the rest are pretty dull IMO. I dunno, it just sounds like it lacks pizazz, or anything even remotely new I guess. I don't mind resulpts at all, but at least 1 all new character wouldn't be bad I wouldn't think.

Hasbro has said that if they were to do another Zam Wesell, which they obviously are, they would give her an alternate shape-shifter head. But I wonder (and hope) if they'll also give her an alternate head with her scarf covering her face? That would be 3 unique head sculpts: human face, Clawdite face, and covered face.

I agree with you on Kit Fisto. The only change that I hope Hasbro does make is giving him a smile.

Based on the Hasbro panel, sounds like the Yak rumor nailed it -

2010 VCxx Zam Wesell - with TWO heads according to the panel!
2010 VCxx Anakin Skywalker (Peasant Disguise) - with poncho
2010 VCxx Padme Amidala (Peasant Disguise) - possible two headresses (1 concept, 1 movie)
  2010 VCxx Jango Fett
  2010 VCxx Kit Fisto
  2010 VCxx Senate Guard
  2010 VCxx Obi-Wan Kenobi
  2010 VCxx Mace Windu
  2010 VCxx Super Battle Droid

No links/pics to share yet, but they were shown in the panel and should be in the booth later today so pics will be plentiful by night I'd think.

Great figures...

Zam appears like she'll have goggles that can be positioned over her eyes (her attached binoculars), TWO full headsculpts, the veil she wears will be poseable over the face or hanging to the side, and articulation out the ying yang.  Everything a Zam should be.

I'm wondering if Jango's a straight repaint if altered at all?

Mace appears to be upgraded to possibly more articulation and softgoods as well, from what I was told.

The Senate Guard sounded interesting, as I guess his forearms are sculpted to match The Clone Wars guards?  That's cool of Hasbro IMO.

The Anakin and Padme will both feature softgoods too, which may irk a lot of Padme fans.  I guess since she sits it makes sense, but I wonder how they'll look?  I'm stoked on the Ani, who can even hide a saber on his belt under the poncho.

Good looking wave, with Zam easily being the highlight. Peasant Anakin and Padme look great as well. The new Kit is a nice surprise. Senate Guard is alright. Mace looks like he has a better headsculpt and hopefully articulated legs. I'll be passing on the SBD and Obi-Wan.

EDIT: Just noticed Jango has the spikes from his Kamino fight with Obi-Wan. Way cool, and makes that an instant purchase if the figure is blue and not purple.

Yeah, although that is always "subject to change", I'm a little disappointed in the release dates as well.  I'm guessing we'll see the ROTJ wave before January, likely at the end of the year sometime, but even still....kind of a slow roll if the dates hold up.  Not that there isn't enough exclusive stuff to blow money on, but I was sort of planning/hoping for four waves this year.

That said, I'm pretty psyched for this wave as well.  I've wanted a Zam resculpt ever since the first one was released, and the Anakin/Padme are nice figures as well.  Like it was mentioned, it looks like both Mace and Kit are improved, which is a nice surprise.  You really can't top that Obi-Wan figure, as it was great already, and I can understand why they'd continue to put it out there.  If Jango is the correct colors, the little "spikes" are a nice update on that figure too.  Curious though, unless I'm missing something, but why does Hasbro refer to this as "Wave 5" in their slideshow?  Isn't the line breaking down like this?

Wave 1 - ESB
Wave 2 - ROTS
Wave 3 - ROTJ
Wave 4 - AOTC

The same reason they referred to ROTJ Wave as Wave 5 (January 2011) at SDCC (http://www.rebelscum.com/sdcc10/Hasbropanel/image19.asp) - it's an "oops". :P

They must have had some master internal slideshow they were pulling these from and were just negligent about the wave # and date.  It's not the first time that the slideshow date conflicted with the placard/booth dates.  RotJ Wave probably was January 2011 and AotC probably was February 2011, but once they postponed the ANH and TPM waves at some point in the year, the Jedi/Clones waves got moved up or whatever.

That Zam sculpt is absolutely beautiful - this can easily be my favorite action figure of all time! I don't care much for the removable helmet feature since we never see her without it (same TVC 3-piece helmet Vader shpeal), but this is just amazing! SA, removable helmet, interchangeable facial scarves, 2 head sculpts, blaster and rifle! Hasbro could have stopped with the blaster, but they went the extra mile with the rifle! Although I'm slightly bummed there's no assassin droid and/or kouhuns, I'm still very pleased.

I like how Kit Fisto's head sculpt appears to be a mix of the AOTC and ROTS models. I would have passed if it looked more AOTC-ish mainly because we just got a decent version in the Geonosis Arena line.

I'm so down for that Mace Windu - a huge improvement over the TAC sculpt that's been reused ever since.

And with this brand-new SA Anakin, I wouldn't be surprised if we see an upcoming SA standard Padawan outfitted Anakin, using the new SA legs on this new figure.

Padme is a genius mix of articulation, soft goods, and plastic. A very nice looking figure.

Jango is a worthwhile purchase because of the accurate coloring, upgrades, and even poncho, which makes it "2" figures - the TAC Jango w/ poncho (which was never seen in the movie), and a standard armored Jango.

What makes me so upset about the release date, though, is that it makes us wait longer for that awesome Zam!

I am very happy with the entire lineup I was expecting repacks on Kit and Mace. The upgrades to mace are superb and a 100% new Kit was unexpected but man he looks so accurate. I really hope these are on tap for November. I wish they gave Obi-Wan a Cloak, I want one to keep carded and he would look much better with it.

I wonder who the repacks are going to be for the next two waves...

That is a good point, but in the film her skirt isn't actually any type of fabric - it looks more like a plastic material. Hopefully the plastic will be rubbery, unlike the skirt to the TAC '07 Mace Windu which completely inhibited any leg movement. Even if Zam's skirt turns out to be a hard, unmoveable plastic, her mid-torso is a joint, so that will help her be able to fit into the 2002 speeder.

Given how horrible the cockpit is on that speeder, I don't even know if a soft goods skirt would help her fit in there without looking all contorted.   :-\

I really like the Anakin and Padme peasant figures. I may pick up Mace and Kit Fisto.  I really want Jango Fett from this wave.  I don't know why they even bothered with the Royal Guard but he looks good.  I am just plain tired of the Super Battle Droid but it seems to sell well.  I kind of thought maybe they would add a clonetrooper instead of the Royal Guard but whatever.

Zam x2
Padme x2
Mace
Senate Guard x2

Might get a Jango for the Apartment

What was stupid about that line too is they kept the preposed action laden things to Collection 1, while Collection 2 had lots of pretty decent figures.  There was a shift in the Hasbro team from Ep1 to Ep2 to Ep3 and beyond, no?  because it does show that they pulled their head out of their ass.  IIRC we asked a question about that time in one of our Q&A's and basically got told they went with that look more or less because it looked cool on the cards ::)
Title: Re: 2010 "Vintage" Collection Wave 4 - AotC

I recall some kind of shift in personnel at the time...  Between 2003/2004 anyay I think.

I thought even Collection 2 wreaked at the time though...  Some stuff slipped through, especially once AOTC's run was done, say after Christmas 2002.  It improved, but only slightly IMO.  That first run of stuff was so easy to pass on...  I think I got at least 50% of it on clearance.  I refused to buy certain figures.

And I used to say this in my reviews, and I'll say it again...  The 2002 Jedi in all their pre-posed glory are more appreciated NOW than they were then, because they all have a superior (in every way) basic figure.  ROTS's Shaak Ti is a vastly superior figure to her 2002 release, yet somehow the 2005 release makes you appreciate the statue then, as something extra.  Kind of a weird way that worked out.

The ROTS figure is my favorite, but for one single Geonosis scene I still hang onto all those pre-posed Jedi.  I may retire them though here soon.  They were some of the worst toys ever though, I think, especially for this line.

I think Jesse has it right.  The 2002 statues are unique, at least, and I still like Luminara a lot.  I'd like her less if there wasn't an alternative.  It felt like Hasbro was following some of the lead of the time - McFarlane and it's crazy sculpts were very popular back then - and they did so again with poseability once Marvel Legends took hold.  That's my thought, anyway.

Luminara probably does stand out as one of the really few but very cool ultra-posed figures from that era.  And for the purposes of the arena battle she really works.  Thankfully the ROTS figure makes up for the sins of 2002 with tons of articulation.

Some folks used that absurd headsculpt to make pretty funny customs of people dying and stuff.  Kind of funny that something good came of such an utterly attrocious action figure.  I mean, what kid or adult would look at that and think "Wow, that's cool!"?

The other kick in the nuts is that, not only did Hasbro choose to screw the pooch with the poses and all the action features, but 99% of the action figures didn't even work well.  I can only think of one action-feature-laden figure of that era, the SBD, which I didn't mind.  I liked the battle damage, the parts and things.  I think it's cool that his cannon arm even returned to the CW3D line.

I kept my SBD parts for battlefield rubble.  You could plug in that blast effect too, kind of neat.  Too bad their paintjobs blow.

I would put Arena Padme and Senator Jar Jar right up there with the POS Mace though.  Those were pretty bad figures.  Then you had all the geonosisians made of rubber that are (once again, for me anyway), just battlefield rubble.  Oh and of course the regular battledroids to join them.  :)

Pilot Padme had a feature and I still think she's decent...  Typho was a decent figure for his time I guess.  That line was in its latter stages though before it put out much that was really worth hanging onto.  Antilles, Dodonna, Imp Officer head variants and stuff.

And that's exactly my thought too Darby, that if it isn't for the ROTS incarnation, then the figure is really going down the tubes.  Case-in-point, Barriss Offee, who's not been updated, but who desperately needs it.  Between her gaping maw of a mouth, and the absurd pose that is useless without the stand they included (and even then, mine's prone to tipping if not balanced just right on the stand), she really just bites the big one.

Thank Todd McFarlane's influence for the 2002 SW debacle. Ephont Mon was the best figure to come out of that era. The post 2003 CW stuff was much better as it returned to normal and brought us into the SA age.

JJ speaking of bad heads used for dying figures here is some custom severed heads I made, one is the Deluxe Slashing Anakin head that was even worse than the Mace Windu above:

I'm embaressed to say I bought this figure when AotC figs came out because the regular Mace wasn't out at the time.

On the "Figure Release List" Mace is listed as "Repack".  Is this true?  He looks pretty darn new to me.

The "repack" listing for Mace on that list was based on a Q&A answer (http://www.rebelscum.com/story/front/Hasbros_85th_STAR_WARS_QA_The_Answers_130204.asp) given to RS before SDCC where Hasbro said he'd be a repack...

Based on the figure shown at SDCC though he does appear to be some degree of new/kitbashed, so the list probably needs to be updated...

Even though it's still wrong to have prequels on these cards - doesn't look too bad.  AOTC lettering looks 70ish to me at least...for some reason.  When are they supposed to drop the Boba sticker??

Awesome  :D.   My favorite card is Obi-Wan and Kit Fisto.  Disappointed in Jangos card.  No SBD, Mace, or Senate Guard  ??? .  I am guess there cards - Maces (blocking Jangos blasts), SBD (scene when it hits the BD), SG (press still).

Since I'm not interested in the packaging that much, they're cool enough for me...  They become garbage generally.  Unless of course I can figure a way out to remove the bubbles without damage.  Otherwise, eh.  As long as the figures are cool, I'm happy.

The logo is a little disappointing - there is a OT esque logo for AOTC I thought they'd use which is better - but I like the photos they chose, generally.  The photoshop backgrounds blow, but the neon-ish Zam pic is very 70's.

I don't really like the AOTC logo, either. But the cards and images are very pretty. ;D

Zam's helmet is HUGE. Her head is so small in comparison, I wish that Hasbro had just merged both into a single-sculpted piece. I like her cardback the most, the promotional still chosen is very cool. I thought Hasbro would use that common press image of her twirling/shooting.

I can say that I'm 100% happy with this wave. And finally, a cape to go with Obi (even though we should have thousands of extras by now)!

I'm really pleased that they finally seem to have the ankles joints matching the boots in this wave. When they get it wrong it really bugs me for some reason. . A definite upgrade for Obi Wan in this department.

I'm not going to cry victory on that one yet...  These are Hasbro's retailer images, and they're almost always prototypes yet, so there's a chance those ankles won't be fixed when the actual production images of the figures surface I'm afraid.   :-\

Pictures of the rest of this wave are up at Sandtroopers. I like the robe color on the Mace, it's much more AOTC than the prototype on display at Celebration, which had more of a Sith look. I think this is the best version of the character to date. The sabre looks a bit blue, but I have plenty of substitutes.

Mace and SBD look awesome on the card, Senate Guard is only okay, but the Senate looks like they just make it Red and put a new Royal Guard head on it and instant royal guard.

I have no doubt that he'll ship with the proper purple saber. It's the color of the images that is off than makes it appear more indigo.

Yeah, it is nice to hear that new stuff is on the way, but I'd be ok with a little bit of a break between the ROTJ wave and this one.  The ROTJ one in particular is one that I (and lots of people I think) would like multiples of with some of the figures, and it is nice to be able to space that out/find them along with the usual round of exclusives hunting.

I'm OK with the AOTC wave coming out so soon after the ROTJ wave, if Hasbro hadn't picked up the pace, we would most likely be seeing this wave in late January, as they had intended at first. They even marked it as a 2011 wave in the slideshows.

I'd be fine seeing it late Junuary, rather than seeing ROTJ wave rushed in/out and this wave possibly rushed as well...  Especially with the annual summer duldrums, which could easily occur again in 2011.

That's my thinking as well.  I'd like to see the ROTJ wave get a nice run at retail.  There is so much nice about that wave, and personally I'd like to grab a lot of extras (Endor Soldiers and Gamorreans in particular).  I'd hate to see it hit for a couple weeks before it is replaced by the AOTC wave right away, which I'm not as interested in.  There's some good there as well, but nothing like the ROTJ wave.

There's like 10 revision waves of wave 3, I think there's gonna be a buttload of this at retail.

Post by: shmashwitdaclub on November 15, 2010, 01:02 PM
I am speculating here, but I don't think the amount of revision cases has anything to do with the amount of product there will be at retail.  I think it has to do with Hasbro creating new case assortments due to Hasbro having to pull all of the Wedges and Yodas out and then filling the spots with figures from other cases.

if that really is the cas, then that might actually lead to fewer cases of this wave - and that would indeed suck because I can easily see myself buying multiple Gam Guards, and a double of the Endor Rebel Soldier, and also probably two Wickets (one for each hood)

I don't know, I'm betting that wave 3 will be all over the place for awhile. For the most part I've seen all of the VC figures at retail in multiples, even Boba Fetts and the Foil Carded Fett; which seems to have been the only hard to find at retail figure. I'm not sure if it's still the case but in order to purchase direct from hasbro you have to take the whole of their product offering, I believe that includes the revisions. I could be wrong. Since nearly all of these revisions are shipping about the same time then every big box store will be getting at least 10 cases. At first it seems odd that they would ever make this many revisions of any wave unless you consider it's an attempt to flood retail with it since it's right around the holiday season and wave 4 possibly isn't shipping until January. I'd even bet that when the line is looked at from a future time that wave 3 will be the most common assortment of figures, not counting Vader as we know that will probably be the most common figure overall. Sorry for making wave 3 comments in the wave 4 post but I think my response would have been out of place elsewhere.
Title: Re: 2010 "Vintage" Collection Wave 4 - AotC

I'm guessing that Wave 3 is going to be produced in substantial numbers.  It's the Christmas season, and no reason to not think that this wave is going to be shipped in amounts that line up with this part of the year.

This ought to work out well for us, retailers, Hasbro, and the overall health of the vintage line.  If there's one wave out of anything Star Wars that we've seen in a while that deserves to be produced to the max, this would definitely be the wave.

Regarding the AOTC wave, I'd be just fine with them not showing up at retail until January. Christmas is expensive enough as it is trying to buy things for everyone else... I don't need to be dropping at least another hundred bucks in December on myself.

So, with the ROTS wave already drying up, and the ROTJ drying up pretty early as well (according to what I've seen, plus reports that the ROTJ wave seems to be going quicker and quicker), does anyone think that the AOTC should make it by end of December? There hasn't really been any indication at all that these are hitting.

Wow, those look cool. I'm not sure if I like the cardbacks as much as I first did... some of those photos on the vintage cardbacks just look weird.

Mace's lightsaber looks more purple than before (it looked blue in the promo shots), and it seems Obi-Wan's tunic under the V-neck doesn't have the yellow paintjob as seen in the promos also.

Really only Kenobi and SBD are the two I think I'll probably pass on.  All the rest I'll likely pick up one or two of at least.

I actually like this wave - I guess I'm crazy.

I'm down for a complete set to keep MOC, but I'm also down for about four Senate Guards to open (if I can find them), two of Anakin so I can display him with and without the parka, two of Padme so I can display her with both head-dresses, probably two or three SBDs to open, two of Zam so I can display her a couple of different ways with the veil and without, and then for the rest at least one of each to open.

So this wave is probably gonna cost me close to $300 when all is said and done. Hopefully Target and WalMart will get them in good numbers and won't jack their vintage prices up to the TRU level...

Yeah - I could see myself picking up more of her if she's sitting around and a store ends up having a sale on vintage figures.

If she can be decently posed in the Zam speeder from 2002, I may go and pick up another one just to permanently display in the vehicle.

In the pics over at Rebelscum's rumor thread, the vintage carded Super Battle Droid is, of course, close to the same one that's been in Saga Legends for years, no ball jointed ankles. But it has a pistol or something in one hand, which is strange...don't recall them holding anything ever.

Let's see, I could wait and get the carded one with it's pistol for $8+, or get the Arena one with more articulation and another figure now for $13 (I think).

I saw the AOTC wave at a Wal-Mart here in northern Colorado tonight. I didn't buy any, so I don't have any pictures. I started to buy Zam and the Senate Guard, but ended up passing. I'm starting to regret that now, oh well. They had 1 each of Zam, Senate Guard, Obi-Wan, Anakin, Padme, Kit, Mace, SBD, and Jango. I had seen the report about Wave 5 being found, but I didn't know this wave hadn't been found yet. I haven't been collecting much lately, so I'm not too up-to-date on things. I'm still just hoping to find a Sidious.   :)

I'll try to get back there tomorrow. I was too tired to go back tonight, since it's not one of the local stores I normally visit. I hope they'll still have something. I was at one of the local stores today as well, but they didn't have anything.

I'm just curious how this wave and Wave 5 hit retail before any of the online sellers got a whiff of them. Isn't that fairly unusual?

I haven't even seen most of these on eBay yet...

It seems to vary a lot. Some waves/lines will be found in stores before online retailers, while others will be in stock online before being found in B&M stores. I haven't noticed any patterns or trends, but then again I haven't really been looking too closely.

Yes, they also filled my order for my wave 5 cases too. I found out with a call from Paypal to verify the purchases. (They called me up to put me on hold for 5 minutes. I was very pissed about that.)

Man, this was a very, very expensive day. It was a Matty.com day too.

Here (http://img708.imageshack.us/img708/1307/0118011214.jpg) are a few crappy (http://img810.imageshack.us/img810/3132/0118011214a.jpg) cell phone pictures (http://img148.imageshack.us/img148/760/0118011215.jpg). All of the figures were still there, so I bought the Guard, Zam and Obi-Wan. They weren't ringing up, so the cashier had to manually input a description and price.

anyway - grats to you!

I saw these at a Wal-Mart today.  Fun note: the dates on the back for first availability are generally all wrong.  Jango and Zam were released in 2000 and the Outlander Obi-Wan Kenobi was 2002-2004 in Hasbro's notes.  Since Hasbro labeled Obi-Wan as a 2003 figure as part of the series number, and the assortment in which it shipped was discontinued in December 2003 as it was being blown out... OK, so I'm anal.

Using the wrong dates for first availability is becoming a trend on Hasbro's part - they also did it with the ROTJ-wave R2-D2, and the ROTS-wave Magna Guard, too. At the same time, it's understandable how this could happen.

Does Hasbro use the POTJ Sneak Preview Zam and Jango on the back of the cards?

I order two cases of each that came in all at once yesterday plus Matty MOTU Classics order day was yesterday as well. Paypal called me to verify the large purchases, I can use a month break after that. I just have to secure the Endor sets and some extra senate Guards and I can kick back as far as I know.

Just opened my AOTC figs and I have to say that top to bottom this may be Hasbro's finest work ever.  I don't even know if I could name a favorite...Zam, Padme, the guard, Jedi, Fett

They are all great...it really makes Wave 5 all the lousier...w/ Wave 3 two back to back Grand Slams

I saw some pics of Zam from someone in Aussie land I think, and my oh my is she a great figure...  2 unique heads, removable helmet, working goggles, etc., etc.  I wanted a great Zam, and they knocked her out of the park to near perfection.

I can't wait to pick this wave up...  And I can't wait for Wave 5 figures to not be on the pegs.

I was going to add that even lesser needed figures like Mace, Kit and a corrected Jango are fabulous.  I've wanted a SA Mace Windu since 1999 that looks like SL Jackson and we finally got one.  ABout the only one I wish wasn't in the wave is the SBD and IMO they should have yanked Dooku from the Target packs and had him here.  Same quality figure and obviously done at the same time as the others.

Zam is great too Jesse and again the amount of detail and accuracy in this scale is really mind boggling.

Oh, and the minute I saw pictures of the original Anakin back in the day I was beyond pissed.  That figure is the second worst figure in the entire line and was such a slap in the face of everything that happened from 1997-2001.  There was pleading and collector involvement to come out with better scaling, better likenesses and more articulation.  Most of those Saga figures are complete horse **** and I am glad they are finally correcting that wrong

For me, late POTJ marked the beginning of the "dark times", as I refer to them, in collecting.

Some of the bull**** that rolled out from then onward to 2003/2004-ish was just attrocious.  I didn't buy one damn figure in 2002 during MM.  I looked around, and it was my worst nightmare.  Almost every figure was a little PVC statue, and some of them were so absurd that absolutely nothing would stand them up...  even stands tipped due to the weight and odd pose of the figures.

I've grown to appreciate some of what was done then, only because it has a superior figure that was made more recently.  However, those figures are still pretty attrocious.  It really kicked off with Eeth Koth at the tail end of POTJ...  Then the preview wave...  Then 2002's Saga kick-off.  Gradually they started to do some stuff better, like Capt. Antilles and Gen. Dodonna, but really it took an entire film's release of figures for them to realize they were going down the completely wrong path?  That's disappointing.

Things didn't pick up in quality overall till 2005 really.  There were some good figures between 2003 and 2005, but 2005 was the first time that the line really was showing a big jump in quality I thought, with the ROTS Preview Wave.  2004 had some pretty big jumps, but 2005 was like a jump for the entire line, not just a figure here or there that seemed like a fan-wank.

2002 stuff though...  I still to this day don't own that Jar Jar.  I even WANT that Jar Jar resculpt.  I won't buy that 2002 figure though.  It's disgusting.

It's funny how Zam's figure makes me forget about the Padme and Anakin in the wave...  I've wanted the Outlander Disguise figures for eons, and now they're here, and I have a hard time remembering that because Zam looks so disgustingly outstanding that I'm fixated on getting Jango's sidekick.

That's great stuff.

It's good news from you Jayson, that Luke isn't too bad.  That's helping push a sale of him on me...  I heard the face getting some ****** reviews.  Hell, I  may even buy a 2nd one so I can replace the 30AC Medal Ceremony Luke?  That figure's skin tone is more annoying to me, than his likeness though.  I'm usually a little forgiving there.  Human likenesses are just hard to get right I figure.

Nice pics Scott. Overall a very solid wave - a perfect follow up to the ROTJ asst.

- Jango rocks big time love the Kamino Jetpack and gauntlets - plus the color finally looks about right
- Peasant Ani and Padmé - very detailed and very much required figures to be made/redone form AOTC
- Mace: Probably the best Sam Jackson likenesss ever
- Kit "Smily" Fisto: seems to get better with each iteration
- Senate Guard: All kinds of awesome - I've always loved the guards with the obvious Roman influence. I'll probably get a half dozen of them
- Zam: is a sweet as hell if there was any one grip it'd be the flesh tone neck when coupled with the Clawdite head, but the veil will cover that for the most part.
- Super Battle Droid: The only real snoozer of the bunch - I hope those shoulder joints aren't as brittle as previous versions and what's with the micro pistol? Don't these guys have heavy blasters built into their arms. Weird.

It is fair to recognise the merit of the sculptors from this wave
Padme and Anakin very renaissance style
Jango has almost a complete paintjob on his surface, perhaps a small bit of Silver was necessary on the soles, except the heels of the shoes.
Mace is one of the best sculpted in gesture and configuration; this time he was depicted more atlhetic than previous versions.
The senate guard will serve as future background for next tfu royal guards, the face under the helmet looks nice, got the attitude of a security guard.
Fisto shares the torso of windu in certain way, except the collar zone, I wonder if the tentacles are some flexible, posable.
Also the paintjob of the tentacles is more detailed than previous versions.
Zam Wessel has got the evolution of the potj versions: more details, although darker paintjob on outfit.
Hmmm in sbd, I don´t see much difference, it could be forearms or stomach areas; but if they want to change the likeness, must develop an articulated head for this droid, or a removable one for battle damaged effects / dioramas.

Yeah, they are about a 1/2" longer than the legs...I didn't really futz with it too much for the pics but it looks better when arranged a little better

I posted these a week or so ago over at Rebelscum... sorry about a few of the photos which didn’t turn out all that great as well as the dusty table (it has basically been sitting in the corner of my room for a while with figures on it while a reorganize the display).

Jango Fett – VC34

To be honest I only bought this figure because I don’t have another SA Jango and because it seems Hasbro isn’t inclined to give us an updated figure. The housekeeping first though before I analyse the figure; essentially, as far as I can tell, it is the same Evolutions sculpt with new arms from the mid-bicep down. As such he has the same basic 14 POA. The headsculpt and helmet sculpt are the same... the accessories are all repacks with the exception of – as far as I’m aware – the jetpack and missile. So that means the headset, poncho and blasters are all as we have seen before. The paint application seems well applied and for the most part seems screen accurate.

Now for the figure itself... as soon as you unpackage the figure and attempt to remove the poncho you are unfortunately met with a flaw; the poncho is incredibly difficult to remove due to the arm blades. Anyone who bought the TAC Apartment Jango with Poncho will remember that it was difficult to remove even with that figure... this figure seems to only worsen that situation. The blades themselves are, unfortunately, unremovable which scene specifies this figure. I personally think they aren’t noticeable and don’t detract from this figure being a standard Jango; it’s still a flaw however. The poncho itself is made from a different material than the TAC figure. It’s more of a ‘fabric’ than‘nylon’ and as such seems to pick up every single piece of fluff or dust.

The helmet is terrible and inaccurate as usual – absolutely no improvement as far as I can tell. I simply swapped it out with my, albeit damaged, TAC Poncho Jango helmet sculpt so I’m not entirely disappointed by this. Another frustration however is that the TAC Poncho Jango jetpack doesn’t fit the peghole of this figure which is unfortunate because the jetpack isn’t all that great. The jetpack, while it is cool it has a non-firing rocket with exhaust ‘jet’ just isn’t as accurate as I would have liked. For the money they spent on the sculpt (assuming it is new; I’m unsure) they could have simply made it an accurate jetpack with no gimmick. Stupid feature in my opinion. And the final flaw in my opinion is the fact the sculpted ‘ball-hinge’ for the shoulders is sculpted in purple rather than silver.

Overall this figure, while it still has the inherited flaws of the Evolutions sculpt, may still be the most accurate version yet. Flaws aside this is a good figure and was about what I was expecting from it. It looks cool in the display and that is all it need do for me. 6/10

Zam Wesell – VC30

I have never actually liked the character of Zam and I only really bought this figure because she is both essential (given she plays a significant role is setting off the Clone Wars) and the fact she would look rather cool in my Underworld display. So, like Jango, she was bought more out of necessity rather than me actually liking the design or character. However once you have this figure in hand I must say I actually want to learn more about the character.

Housekeeping, as always, must be set to first. She has the standard 14 POA which are all exercuted really well... none of those terrible joints that don’t work properly, these are an example of articulation being executed to its finniest. She is packed with a really great amount of accessories which, although essential for the character, are surprising given the amount of accessories Hasbro is normally able to include. These accessories include in-use face cloth (for lack of a better word), draped face cloth, helmet, blaster, rifle and alternate Clawdite headsculpt. All of this is packed nicely and painted to the standards already set by this line.

The first thing you notice when you remove the figure from the packaging is that there are no securing rubber bands... so it just lifts right out. Initally it seems she is really difficult to stand (don’t know if this was just mine) however once you move her around a bit it is apparent this isn’t an issue. The alternate headsculpt, while it looks weird given the ‘human’ neck ‘post’, is really well detailed and painted. The human headsculpt, to be honest, isn’t a good likeness in my opinion (especially with Kit and Mace in this wave) however its only slightly off... just use her disguise cloth.

The ‘cloth pieces’ are sometimes easy to put in an sometimes not. By that I mean sometimes when you are putting the pegholes in it is really fiddly, however other times it literally just pops into place immediately. It is important to note that here ‘rangefinder’ can’t be lowered with the face cloths in place (both of them). The helmet is also removable... however her hair underneath is naturally simplistic. Her overall sculpting is really well done and seeming has all the details necessary... all of which is emphasized by great paint application. Her kama is also soft plastic (much like the ones used for Rex and the other commanders in TCW line) and as such doesn’t impede many poses. The paint application itself has a slight wash to it and seems accurate to the film.

Overall this figure makes me appreciate the character of Zam much more then I have previously. It’s something which, while I though it merely necessary, has actually surprised me and has turned out to be a great figure. Great figure which makes one less character needed to be made. I am unsure how exactly others are going to display this figure... the Clone Wars tells us that for the most part these type of Bounty Hunters are in their natural state form most of the time. What do you guys think? 9/10

Mace Windu – VC35

If Sam Jackson had seen the previous incarnations of Mace Windu in action figure form he would not have been happy... in a way only Sam Jackson can. However this latest figure is without a doubt truly worthy of being a figure of Jackson. In fact in typical SLJ style he probably arguably now has the greatest Jedi figure of the entire line. However before I review the figure there are some housekeeping details. The figure essentially consists of the 2007 TAC Legs (may be different sculpt; unsure), Torso and Arms paired with an all new Headsculpt and Belt/Skirt piece; a kitbash at its finest. Hasbro has taken the great pieces from the TAC figure and fixed the problems which that one had. He is also packed with an unlit lightsaber hilt, a lightsaber (undetectable from hilt) and a cloak. The articulation is standard 14 POA with no ball-jointed hips. Pretty standard Jedi figure.

The true standout part of this figure however is of course the headsculpt (which is more than likely the one originally intended for the TAC figure as seen in its press photo). However whether sculpted back in 2006 or not this likeness is, in my opinion, the most accurate seen on any 3 ¾ scale figure in any line. The details are simply astonishing; so much so that if placed in a good display with good lighting it essentially looks like Sam Jackson has been scaled down. The lightsaber, as far as I can tell, are accurate to the one used on screen. The paint apps, as has been the trend for this line, are really great... this figure is a noticeably different colour from the TAC Windu (for those wondering).

One thing however might cause a ‘discussion’ on the boards is the cloak. Essentially, the sleaves are disproportionate to the rest of the cloak (to long) and as such are folded in the packaging. However there may be reasoning for this. When you fold them down they are essentially just standard sleaves which are too long and as such seem as an error. However when they are folded up they appear to ‘drape’ more at the cuffs (like Palpatine’s cloak)... which is of course how Windu’s cloak is in the films. So with that said it seems to me that they are intended to be folded up and that this was a way for Hasbro to design a new cloak for Windu. While they aren’t accurate they are certainly noticeably different then the other Jedi cloaks. I’m personally fine with this.

Overall this figure is the definitive Mace Windu figure which fixes the flaws of the TAC figure which just fell before the finish line. Aside from ball-jointed hips (which I don’t think it really needs) there is not much else which can be done for the character. Exceptional figure which will go done as one of the greats of this line. 10/10

Senate Guard – VC36

Of the figures I bought today the Senate Guard was the one I was most interested in... simply because of his ‘Roman’ design and the enigma of what body they used. Some housekeeping first however; basically this is an all new sculpt, with two layers of soft goods. He is packed with a rifle and an electro staff. Articulation is basic only without ankles... and the ball-jointed head is essentially redundant due to the helmet design.

The body sculpt itself is interesting. It is the same design as the ROTS figure only with ball-jointed arms instead of swivel. Interestingly however they have incorporated the ‘clam’ shoulder armor as used by Senate Commandos in The Clone Wars. It’s a really great unexpected detail on the part of Hasbro and really shows that they want to include aesthetics for the fans. It is also notable that the paint is, obviously, far superior and detailed than the ROTS figure. The body sculpt also includes a holster for his ‘Biker Scout’ pistol. The cape itself is a little too long and it does ‘crinkle’ like the Magnaguards cape. The helmet is also interestingly done... basically the reason it looks removable is because there is a ‘sculpt’ within a helmet. The sculpt can’t be removed and it isn’t a head however it is a separate sculpt...

Overall this is a really great figure. 9/10

Alright, for this photo it should be noted the one on the left has been ‘customized’ slightly by me to make his cloak sit better. Essentially I take at least 20 minutes setting up each figure as I would any Sideshow figure... The one on the left is without alteration and you can see the difference in the cloak.

Here they are, both ‘customized’, in my ‘work in progress’ Galactic Republic display in my new display unit.

Kit Fisto – VC29

I have always liked the Kit Fisto character. Even as a kid he was that one obscure character I really liked. Having bought and played with the figure on the back of the card as a kid this was a definite buy on many levels. Some housekeeping first; Kit is an all new sculpt with a soft goods ‘skirt’ and cloak. The articulation is basic 14 POA which included ball-jointed hips. Accessories are basic; unlit and lit lightsabers and a cloak.

The figure itself is extremely detailed and has great paint application. The details are really well executed and the likeness, although based off ROTS and not AOTC,  is almost as great of Mace Windu’s. Joints all work great as well.

Not much else to say about this figure other then its great. Definitely essentially for any Jedi Order/Republic display/ 10/10

Another thing I would like to mention is that it is perhaps advisable to iron the Senate Guards robe. Although I still have utilized some blu-tac it does sit better in my opinion:

One on the right is ironed (although it doesn’t make much difference in these shots it requires less effort for them to sit correctly on the figure. I took much more time getting the one on the left right then I did with the one on the right):

Hope you guys enjoyed the photos. If you like these reviews and photos enough let me know and I’ll do them for each figure released. I do have one request however: would it be possible to get you guys/gals opinions on the following:

a)   My display system; do you like the set-up and layout?
b)   Do you think my Mace and Senate Guards look better or worse with my 'improvements' than they would without them.

It would be greatly appreciated.

Nice pics, photos caught the details
Jango gauntlets got the diferents with their claws, tools
Zam accesories and weapons are colorful, also the helmet with binoculars is a n effort in depicting detail; perhaps in the future they will paint in other color the glasses.
The different between tac and tvc windu is the scale and head sculpt; tvc is shorter, but his head sculpt nails the traits of Jackson better.

But in this way to evolve characters, what would be the difference between the tvc aotc Mace and a tvc rots Mace?

Thanks for the images Jibba, they're cool.

I'd say the display system you're using looks fine to me, but I'm always changing my own display methods.  I'm kind of to the point now where I'm likely going to invest in the Marauder Inc. interlocking stands for most of my collection though, and definitely once I start putting my army builders out in some bulk.

ON the cloaks, I think anything you can do to display them more natural looking is great...

Some people soak them in water and let the weight of them on the character dry, for a more natural hang.  I'd be hesitant to use blue-tack as it will stain things (trust me on that, haha), but if you're ok with it if it's hidden, I'd say you're doing whatever makes you happiest.  For me, I just try to fold the fabric as best I can.  Ironing is a good idea too that I've done as well.

I'm a big fan of softgoods, and to me they add to the toy overall, so I love having them.  Making them look just right can be tricky, but I'd never trade it, honestly.

I'm really sold on the Zam Wesell figure. Hands down, best TVC figure (to me, at least). Amazing sculpt and detail - look at how awesome the paint apps are! There are dark washes in the creases of the "cloth" bits... I'm just so impressed that I'm at a loss of words... :o

I'm really liking Ki Fisto, too! I thought it was redundant to include him in this wave so soon after the Geonosis sets, but this time, Hasbro just nailed it. The facial sculpt looks more ROTS-style than AOTC-styled, but I'm fine with that.

I wasn’t aware blu-tac stained things... anymore information regarding the wetting of the soft goods, because I would be interested in trying it. Is there a specific method of executing it?

I like all except the Battledroid...the pistol is just dumb.

I'll most likely pick up:
-Kit Fisto
-Jango Fett (two of them)
-Mace Windu
-Zam Wessel

Possibly a couple of Senate guards to replace the POTJ ones I have.
Title: Re: 2010 "Vintage" Collection Wave 4 - AotC
Post by: Jesse James on January 22, 2011, 03:47 PM
No real trick to the wetting of the softgoods, you just get them soaked, put them on the figure, and arrange them as you wish.  Let them dry then, and they take the shape you let them hang in fairly well.  The weight of the wet cloth then sort of hangs it on the figure in a more natural way.  I've seen it done on a lot of figures and it looks nice.

Of course, you can't move the figure then though.  ;)

I cracked this wave open last night, it's right up there with the ROTJ wave. Here is my opinion breakdown:

- Kit Fisto is really amazing. They finally nailed him and the sculpts all around is an A+
- Mace Windu's upgrade really brings him up to par with other Jedi.
- Zam is just awesome! Lot's of ways tocreat all of her looks.
- Anakin is pretty cool for a lame outfit. The soft goods turned out great!
- Jango is a plus up. they gave him a lot of new details and a better paint job with some new gear.
- Obi even got some new paint details! More accurate in robe colors and they paint his saber too!
- Senate Guard is really killer! Best of all, the ROTS Guard head fits perfectly so you can even upgrade them as well.
- Padme is the dog of the bunch. Like the majority of Padmes she is a pepper shaker in a dumb outfit.
- SBD has an improved paint job. I am surprised that the SBD did not have the articulated ankles like the Geo one. The blaster really puzzled me. He is an easy pass but is also a solid figure.

This wave will be popular. I want 9 more Senate Guards and some other extras, you guys will love them! (BTW - Wave 5 really blows and truly is a let down.)

While the pepper shaker aspect of the figure is there, the likeness to Natalie Portman is one of the best ever...not too mention the detail on the dress and swappable head gear.  I bought two for the two scenes along with two Anakins for similar reasons.

I found what appeared to be most of this Wave last night at Walmart, so it has officially hit here on the East Coast now. It doesn't seem like there is much activity in the Store Reports section lately, so hopefully people start getting out there again and looking for this stuff. Zam looked pretty sweet, the winner of the lot IMO.

I am still not feeling this Padme. Her skin is melting into the hood. I wish they made the head like the Senate Guard head in two parts. I am now on the hunt for guards and another Jango. i have extras of Mace and Kit so I am going to test them in their pimped out star fighters. Like the previous ones I do not think Kit is going to fit in it.

Hit Target today desperately hoping that I would at least find leftovers of this wave...

And there were only scatters of Dengar, 4-LOM, Bespin Pilot, and Anakin. :'(

NO... ZAM... WESELL!! :-[

Zam Wesell has got to be my most-anticipated, she's such a cool character, and I've wanted an update for such a long time - plus, there's so much effort on the figure!

I'm really hoping these hit my area soon, the pegs were pretty much empty, there must have been only 2-3 figures on each of the pegs dedicated to TVC.

Rather shop at K-Mart at this point.  They at least have the Rewards Program to earn you money off.  I keep hoping Wave 4 hits there because I've got a tidy sum off if they do.  They usually don't restock till after January anyway though because of inventory.

I agree, the only stuff I'll be getting from Wave 5 is Luke and R5-D4... the rest of the wave is terrible and a complete waste of money... if the Stormtrooper helmet they used was a good one, like from the figure below, I'd get at least a dozen.

But instead, I'm getting zero due to Hasbro's incompetance.

I cannot disagree. The Stormtrooper helmet is a bobble head. Tantive Stormie is still my choice Stormtrooper! I just picked up 6 more to get my troop to 40.

After seeing the photos at Rebelscum, the Senate guard´s head looks without the helmet as the head of a playmobil guy,
due to the big slot on its top.
The jaws are too wide, the face looks round like a Lego / Playmobil head.

Just another thought guys about this wave....
after seeing rebelscum pics about tvc aotc Obi Wan Kenobi
on february 7, 2011
specially this comparison

http://www.rebelscum.com/photo.asp?image=/TVC/Basic/VC31ObiWan/TVC-1374.jpg&text=Obi-Wan Kenobis: The Legacy Collection BD-44 | The Vintage Collection VC32

The paintoj has got the necessary updates in relation to the tlc version (which shares sculpt):
-the shirt under jacket got other shade of cream
-all the buttons on betl are coloured silver, they made clearer instead of fade the silver and golden aplications of the belt on the figure´s waist.
-The boots have golden buckles, 3 rows of them.

I think Hasbro must project to launch these colorful and detailed versions of characters at once, instead of packaging re-releases (the most of them have lost paint applications throught history, specially as part of battle packs).

Well shut my mouth... Obi-Wan's ankle joints finally match the color of his boots! :o That was kinda irritating, that the TLC release had mismatching colors on the ankles.

With the overly improved paint job on this figure (even the lightsaber hilt is colored correctly!), I really want to buy him, but I can't really justify putting down $9-10 on a figure I already have. Sometime I wish Hasbro would just get it right the first time.

I couldn't agree with that quote more...  I'm really looking at things right now, and thinking I've gotta stop rebuying characters I already own if they're already good enough to me.  R5-D4 is probably going to be the first.  I'm even leaning towards not picking up Luke now out of wave 5.  I want more from Wave 4 than 5, so I'm very much looking to cull from Wave 5.  I even was digging the Stormtrooper a little more, but at best I'm buying one and passing on anything extra.

Other than Zam Wessel and possibly a 2nd Senate Guard, I'm really reluctant to even buy any doubles in that wave, and it's a great wave.  *shrugs*  The current prices have basically put me past my threshold of what I consider acceptable.  It's to a point I really now have to consider if I'm even that into collecting.

It's a real shame that at last there's a year and a line where Hasbro is actually doing an inhumanly good job (well... in most cases ::)), but there's also a drop in collectors because of the ridiculous prices.

Who knew Toys R Us's increased $10.99 TVC figures in late July/early August was a foreshadowing of what was to come with Target... ::)

TRU aside even...  I don't shop there often anyway, they're just not convenient here at all, but $8.99 is really just too much.  There isn't nearly enough there for me to say, "Wow, that's a toy worthy of that much money".  They'd have to deliver pretty big and impressive accessories with the figure for me to say $8.99 is even simply "fair".  Not good, just fair.
Title: Re: 2010 "Vintage" Collection Wave 4 - AotC
Post by: Brian on February 9, 2011, 11:41 AM
Yeah, $8.99 is really starting to push it.  I realize that most to all lines have jumped in price over the past year or two (Marvel Universe often hovers around $9 here too, and Legends/Classics stuff is up around $15-16), but it just seems like a lot for a 3 3/4" figure.  Our local Target got the AOTC wave in this week as well, but at $8.99 they seem to still be there for the most part.  I grabbed a Zam, and had some others via BBTS already, but I'd be reluctant to pay that much for some of the other characters - or definitely repacks.

Just wanted to edit my rant. No need to vent to the world so I've removed it. It amazes me how the price on these keep going up. From a manufacturing standpoint the packaging has to be cheaper since it's a straightforward die cut card, the bubble is simplier to manufacture even in various sizes, they've eliminated pack ins and the volume has to be there that the tooling costs are nearly non existent. Hasn't it been mentioned before that the figures are slightly shrinking too? I'm convinced that EE, TRU and other similar etailers raise their prices based on what figures can go for on the aftermarket. I'm continually reminded by my EE contact on what items are going for on ebay when I'm solicited for orders and any time I go to place a reorder for something I've got from them the price has gone up to the point that it doesn't make sense for me to reorder. That's not just on star wars. I know manufacturers are constantly hounded by their customers for lower costs so I'm pretty sure the cost to make the vintage line isn't what they'd like you to think it is. I'm aware that import cost and other new regulations have added to the cost but I'll bet the trade off at the manufacturing level evens it out. Seriously, how can the VC line cost more to make than TLC or CW lines? It has to be the "only collectors will buy this line so we'll charge a premium just because we can" mentality.

no problem man  ;D  I am also debating that one too.  they are all sitting in my cart - I just cant bit the bullet.  just too much per figure.

I like how, as of right now, if I were to order that crap-tastic Thor case for $83, HTS would have no problem giving me free shipping.  But if order everything I want from them now - about $126 worth of stuff I cant get free shipping.  that would help push me over the edge atleast a little - but I would still be cringing.   :-X

code thanks to ifett:  HTS10

editX2 - still hard to pull the trigger

Well, you wait too long and of course you lose something - but it all worked out ok in the end.  I cancelled the HTS order I made yesterday for the Lowlight wave of GI Joes, plus the Concept Hammer Drone for IM2.  I also did not use a coupon code on that order.

I was just now able to place an order on just about everything I wanted and use the "hts10" code (thanks again ifett) - of course one thing had to go out of stock - the Senate Guard was first to go.

So all in all I nabbed:

SW:  Anakin, Padme, Jango, Kit, Mace, Zam, Luke, and the Turbo Speeder.
GI Joe:  Destro, Low Light, Shadow Tracker, Skydive
IM2:  Concept Hammer Drone

grand total  :o  128.85

Damn, I just placed an order for some AOTC extras plus the Jedi Turbo Speeder and did not see that code until now. I could not get any Senate Guards but I am very happy to find the Jedi Turbo Speeder in stock.

How much does the code knock off?

Scored the Super Battle Droid today at Target, so I won't be going the HTS route.  The wave is hitting retail now, and based on Derryl DePriest's comments on the Force Cast I'm inclined to believe that we're going to see a greater TVC presence at retail.  I can't justify paying shipping for this wave.

It seems to me $8.99 is here to stay since both Wave 4 and 5 at HTS are $8.99 as well.  That's disappointing.  It's going to make me seriously take a look at whether I want to collect anymore or leave the hobby I think.  I have a feeling Toy Fair's going to reveal that the price hike is part of the MSRP perhaps.  It's disappointing to say the least.

I can't see that price lasting too long if WM sells them @ $7.96. Target lost over $100 to their competitor the other day. I'm sure they don't care too much about a toy purchase that's insignificant to thei daily pull, but it could still be in their pockets.

Some of you guys are braver than me. $7.99 is my limit. I'll probably break and pick up Zam if I see her in stores for $9 but nothing else.

Such a shame these prices have most of us reconsidering the hobby, as TVC has been some of Hasbro's best work, IMO.

If MSRP goes up, expect WM to raise their prices.

I was hoping $8.99 was a short-term thing here, just a post holiday cash grab on the line.  I'm not so sure any longer on that.

It's disappointing because I love the line but I'm tired of price hikes.  I don't care what Hasbro's problems are.  I have my own bills too, and toys aren't going to factor into them any longer.  The line isn't THAT good.  It's neat, it's good, but it's not that good.  Two figures for $9 + tax and we'll talk more then.

Post by: Jesse James on February 21, 2011, 08:55 PM
So I found MOST of Wave 4 the other day at a local K-Mart...  I'm really happy about that since, like I've mentioned before, I used their Rewards Perks card to get them cheaper.  For the curious you simply sign up for the card and have it scanned on all purchases.  You accumulate points which translates into money off future purchases.  I had about $6 racked up, so when I found most of Wave 4, I got $6 off the total purchase...  That's nice right?

The cool thing is you can accumulate it a long time.  They hold for a full year I believe, so that's a long time to rack up stuff.  You could walk out with free figures depending on how much you shop there.  The only problem is K-Mart isn't as common (or even exists) in some areas, and some people have stigmas about shopping at K-Mart.  In the N.East they're pretty common yet and sort of a shopping necessity, so I tend to rack up a bit there...  not a lot, but I get little $5 to $6 discounts fairly frequently.  Like I said in another thread, I'm doing my gf's oil change on her Jeep and so right after I'd used my rewards I will have more coming because I bought 5 quarts of Synthetic oil on sale and a filter.

Anyway, long story short and because I have a KM conveniently located to my house, and because KM generally gets each wave in at least once, I'm happy about that.  Unfortunately KM may jack prices up higher now that everyone else has hit $8.99...  For now they haven't.  We'll see how long that lasts.   :-\

So some early thoughts on the figures, which I got to open only late last night...

-Padme...  She's probably my biggest disappointment, especially at what figures are (Even $7.99).  She's a salt-shaker, typical of Padme figures, with some nice (but ultimately pointless) softgoods.  Her sculpt is decent, there's details that are really nice in her dress, and she comes with the two hats...  I think the two hats are cool and slightly tempting to get a 2nd but I'm not willing to commit on extras of things I'm not overly thrilled with.

Suffice it to say, Padme fills a role, but I would've liked to have seen Hasbro try something different with her, and do more softgoods.  It would've been tricky with the detail in the dress though so I'm not sure it's a realistic request.  She's alirght for what she is but probably my least interesting of the wave, short of the SBD who I will not buy.

-Obi-Wan Kenobi...  OK, I'm never one to profess I'm an expert on costume details.  I really just like it if it's generally correct.  So if Obi's inner-shirt isn't the right shade of tan or something, eh whatever...  That said, I did notice Obi's "skirt" not matching his tunic in color with his Legacy figure, so I was hoping for an improvement there.  And I got it.  This figure's pretty great besides no saber hilt.  He's pretty perfect actually aside from that, as he has all the things a Jedi should, and all the articulation a hero Jedi certainly should.

I like the likeness on him, the hair...  The deco on mine is great, and there's some extra color there as the Robes are a variety of tans/white.  In general I like him, and he's among my favorite Jedi figures because he even has the communicator on the belt, and sure he's mostly repacked (is anything different but the deco really?) but he just feels improved and better looking overall.  I'll move my Legacy into his Jedi Fighter now.

-Mace Windu...  Next in order of preference is Mace...  I love this guy.  This isn't a massive update, but it's enough that it makes a huge different compared to his previous incarnation.  This is the Mace you want on your ROTS shelves, your AOTC Shelves, your TPM shelves...  This is your ultimate Mace.

Hasbro didn't improve articulation, but they did a bangup Sam Jackson likeness like never before.  Probably the biggest gripe of most Mace figures has been that face and it's much, much better.  I like the scowl too.  Like Obi-Wan, the headsculpt looks neutral but "serious".  Together they look like they're about to make Geonosis eat its vegetables.

The next cool feature?  They finally gave mace a Saber hilt he can clip on his belt!  That only took what?  12 years?  Better late than never, right?  Unfortunately they forgot it on Obi!  WTF!?  Anyway though Windu's rocking the apprporiate gear, and a nicely distinctly colored softgoods robe.

Also Hasbro was sure to adjust his "skirt" now so that Mace's nice leg articulation can function.  His 2007 figure was cool, an improvement for sure by leaps and bounds, but his movement was hindered by that solid plastic skirt.  Now?  Softgoods with a mix of plastic bits too, and he's really poseable as he should be.

The robe colors are great too.  There's layers of creams, and tans.  Like Obi-Wan the deco was nicer than has been in the past I thought.

-Senate Guard...  I really like him but have one major gripe.  Non-removable helmet.  In this day and age, and when a figure's helmet is already a separate sculpted piece, and when figures cost this much, it's sort of a punch in the gut to have a helmet glued to a figure's head.  Sadly that's the case here though, and they could've done better.

That said, The softgoods are a vast improvement, and a cool feel for sure.  he also sports 3 accessories which are neat.  i like seeing the pike/staff, the rifle's ok, and the pistol's nice that they kept it and the old sculpt of the legs/armor underneath so it has a holster and all.

I liked that there wasn't much adapting the ROTS sculpt too, like I said.  The armor's neat, so I'm glad they kept it, and I don't feel ankle joints are a necessity by any stretch if they are sculpted neutrally as this figure's are.  I like that they did update the arm articulation too, it helps with posing, however I wouldn't have whined if they weren't updated actually.  To me, they allowed good poses with the ROTS Angle-Cut joints.  This is obviously better though so thanks!

The helmet thing is my gripe really...  And it lends itself to customizing without an excessive ammount of work, so I'm not even that upset by it.  It's just annoying.  It feels like POTJ Fleet Trooper.  If the helmet and head are separate sculpts, just make them removable from one another and give the guy a full generic headsculpt.  *shrugs*

-Zam Wessel...  For me I kinda thought this would be my favorite of the wave, and she sure didn't let me down.  Zam's a really impressive resculpt of two previous figures that flat out sucked.  What's funny is her 2002 figure had such impressive articulation but it was almost entirely rendered useless by the awkward posing of the individual parts.  Her preview figure was somehow more stable and useful despite itself being pre-posed and lacking anything but a basic 6 points.

Today, Zam has been given her due... mostly.  She's rocking a lot of separate pieces/parts, she's got a working holster for her sidearm, she's got her sniper rifle, 2 veils (covering and not covering her face), a removable helmet, moving binoculars ON her removable helmet, and two heads (clawdite and human)...  Wow.  I mean, just wow.  It's all small stuff, but it's neat little small stuff that is appropriate to Zam.

The veils work, but they're a little tricky to get them snapped to the helmet and really working well.  I like them though, but part of me would have dug a softgoods one if it could've been done.  Regardless though, what they did was neat and with work they both fit well enough.

I love the binocs...  They move, they're cool, they pop off easily...  They make me wish Mandalorians still had movable range-finders on their helmets that much more, haha.

Zam's sporting one of the best decoes in a while too, on any Vintage figure...  Lots of silver, lots of washes, very fine face details, costume details, and even accessory paint aps...  one gripe, her hair seems off.  She seemed more blonde in AOTC than brunette, but I'm ok with it...  Her hair seemed kind of slicked or gelled back anyway, what you could see of it.

Also if I had one major gripe, it'd be her "skirt" thing.  It's plastic, which is ok as it doesn't inhibit her articulation.  However it does inhibit her ability to sit...  Since some people are still hoping she'llf it in her 2002 Speeder, it'll be tough with this skirt bit hanging down.  I think she still could as it's flexible at least, but it might be a little snug, and cloth would've worked a lot better.  Plus the texture of it would've been really cool to see what they could've come up with.

In another detail though, her likeness is REALLY impressively accurate.  Whoever sculpted her got the chubbier cheeks of the acrtress' face really well.  I was really impressed with it.  She's such a secondary human character I was surprised it was this well done.  It's a shame there aren't at least some blonde highlights in the hair or something.

Either way, she's my favorite...

Ironically...

I couldn't find Jango, SBD, or Anakin.  Anakin I understand, Jango too somewhat, but the SBD?  Weird.  I am going to pass on Jango, he's worse than Padme and almost as bad as the SBD to me (forgot him earlier).  Anakin I was hoping to get though, so hopefully I'll see him here eventually.  I've wanted that resculpt as much as Zam from AOTC now for a while.  They were my top 2, easily, from this film.  And he looks really fantastic.

Good wave though.  I wish I could've found them a month ago.  :-\  Unfortunately Pittsburgh's overloaded with Clones/Stormtroopers, or Wave 1 remnants (Dengar, CC Pilot, 4-LOM).  Not much else to be found here at all.

I've said it billions of times, I love the Zam figure, I'll gladly put down the $11 for this figure. And it's also worth it, this is probably one of the few TVC figures with tons of accessories!

Hasbro should have given Mace ball-jointed hips, I'd rather Kit Fisto got the swivel hip joints, mostly since Mace is a primary character. But this figure really is great though.

Good likeness of the Clawdite mug though.  ;D

I actually think the new Clawdite head (http://www.yakface.com/TGuide2004/ActionFigures/TVC/basicfigures/VC30/head7.html) sucks compared to the Saga (http://www.yakface.com/TGuide2004/ActionFigures/saga/0218zamwesell/head2.html) version in terms of likeness.  The eyes and mouth are all wrong.

I really can't agree on that Jayson.  I just was holding the head up to that photo, and it looks really spot-on to me...  The eyes are the only thing off, and to me it's the paint and not the sculpt.  If they were a glossy blue-ish color I think they'd be better, but I'm not bothered by the paint not being totally accurate.

I think if you blue the eyes up, maybe gloss them, and dial the pupil down, that's pretty spot-on for tye eyes.  I see the mouth gripe...  It's a little wider than it should be I guess, but that's so minor to me I'm ok with it, as it's the only sculpt thing that seems off.

The rest is just color/deco.  It looks too green and the eyes could've been better painted.  I'm amazed this figure had the deco it did though.  Hasbro's basically screwed figures on paint aps for some time now.  Since 2008 anyway.

I think that's smart advice for anything at this point.  I was a non-case-buying holdout, but now I just say screw it...  Why bother going to stores hunting at all right now?  It's going to rake you over the financial coals in gas alone, much less the inane price hikes on the product itself.  Ordering online is just my destination at this point, and I only wish I'd realized this 2 waves ago.  I'd have definitely just ordered wave 4 and called it a day.

Now more than ever too, it's a good time to try to help one another out as well, either through local groups, or on our boards here or whatnot...  These days it pays to do what you can to lend a hand to folks you know are looking if you're out anyway.

I've yet to see the entire wave 4 myself, but I'm keeping my eye peeled when I am out, and not straying from my commute much.  I know I still need Anakin, another Zam, another Guard, and Kit Fisto...  I will be happy to put this wave to bed, and move on.  Wave 5 is just trickling into my area for the first time too, so I'm hopeful I can wrap this stuff up soon...  of course though, Luke's a bitch to find from that assortment, and so continues the hunt I guess.

This wave finally hit the UK, I picked up most of them except for the blue guard, the SBD and Jango although I'll might pull the trigger on a couple of those guards at some point.

I'm trying to avoid buying Jango again until they make some upgrades. Color issues aside, sooner or later he's going to get Vizla style articulation. A gun belt with holster straps, a good helmet with moving rangefinder  and a better likeness of his mug underneath wouldn't hurt either.

I'm impressed with the figures I picked up,  they really look like some care went into them. I love the additional paint details on the weapons.

I'm having a hard time finding Zam. She seems to be the harder one to find in my neck of the woods, which is funny because the original 2002 sculpt was a massive pegwarmer.

I think it's largely that nothing since wave 3 has really hit a saturation point...  2002 Zam, movie release...  The same thing wuold happen with the Gam Guard ultimately if they put out cases of him.  Just the nature of the beast.

It's amazing what a lick of paint can do. The new colors of Obi Wan's clothes, ankle joints and the underside of his Jedi mullet being painted this time around are a real improvement. The sabre is cool too although I'd echo the earlier sentiment that an unlit hilt should have been included.

Kenobi's the character that I like most in the prequels, so this is a worthwhile upgrade for me. I'd like to have seen them go for a lighter shade on the hair though... and that goes for Anakin as well.

Phantom Menace was huge with kids and famalies.  It made over 400 million 12 years ago!  Only in the fan communities is it considered a "flop."

AOTC, on the other hand, was the only SW film that was not #1 at the box office for the year it came out.  It was #3 behind Spiderman and LOTR.

And yes, AOTC is a good film for toys, and still coould be mined deeper.

I'm seeing lots of it.  2 weeks ago I saw a freshly opened case at an out of the way Wal-Mart, and then last weekend I saw a fresh case at a nearby Wal-Mart.  Then during the week, my K-Mart got in the first new figuers they've gotten since around Christmas time, and it was a full set of Wave 4.

The only figures I'm not seeing as often out of the wave are Anakin and Jango, with Jango being the harder of those two to find (oddly enough).  Anakin though, he's one of the first to go.  The rest I'm seeing semi-regularly now.

Never actually seen this wave. I've only seen the Senate Guard and Obi-Wan thanks to their re-appearances in Wave 6.

I've only seen this wave in bits and pieces.  And I have NEVER seen the Jango Fett from this wave to date.

Hmmm...looks like we all missed this one at this point.  Oddly, I have a feeling this one will show up.  Thanks for the updates.

I did a little cross border shopping in Spokane WA last week and lucked out at the Walmarts there.  Between 2 stores, I saw the complete wave and grabbed Zam and Padme.  I was torn whether or not to "upgrade" Mace and Kit, but decided I was happy enough with the versions I have.

Not that I'm buying them, but the only store I've ever seen them (and at least half the wave is still there) is my local K-Mart.

Lando,

KM and WM are the only places I've seen wave 4.  Target I've only seen wave 5 and reprots of wave 6...  I've seen 3, 4, 5, and 6 at WM though, since they've been the only retailer actually ordering anything for a while...  My target stores I visit aren't ordering much, KM just started again, and it sounds like TRU is maybe trying to order something I guess with the wave 7 reports.

Alright so this is a question for anyone who can answer -

Visited my local Target recently and was floored by what I discovered. Keep in mind that this store has had the exact same 20+ figures on the pegs since January, an assortment of Wooof, Bespin Cloud Car Pilot, Ep.III Clone, and Endor Rebel Soldier.

What floored me was that when I visited this time, there was a lone AOTC Obi-Wan on the pegs, with the card in mint shape (I was enraged that it wasn't Zam Wesell). My question is, how is it that this one AOTC figure ended up here? Is it possible that for the first time in months this Target restocked the pegs (is this happening elsewhere?) and I just missed the rest of the figures? Or could it be that it was returned from a different store? The reason I'm asking is because I find it odd that there was only one figure from this wave and not a handful of others.

It could easily have been a return from another store, or a return on a receipt using a figure someone didn't want in place of what they did want...  It's hard to say.

It could just as easily be that you missed a case of figures...  Obi-Wan is one who tends to sit from that assortment, but it'd be odd not to see all the other stuff from it that tends to sit.  *shrugs*

WM is the place to be for 4...  I have seen it in bulk at this point, except Jango and Anakin.  All the rest, tons.  Someone bought me an extra Senate Guard tonight that's been hanging out for about a month now.

Yeah, probably; I remember hearing something similar to this before. It had never really crossed my mind before that they could be returned. I'm still hoping to see these in bulk sometime soon, though.

Could have been from wave 6.

I was VERY surprised to see a case of this wave show up at one of my local stores recently.  And because of that I finally was able to score Jango Fett.  Convenient for me, yes.  But it only serves to highlight just how screwed up distribution really is when a case of Wave 4 turns up like this when Wave 7 is finally starting to show up in stores.

All I ever saw from this wave was the Blue Senate Guard.  If he was even from this wave?  I can't remember.  I wanted Zam, Jango, Anakin, Padme, Kenobi.  Oh well maybe someday?

Anakin is in stock at HTS. Kenobi should be easy to find - he was in the Wave 6 case so in my area he's quite common.

If the Wave 7 case ever starts hitting, that will result in more Jangos hitting the pegs. Unfortunately it seems that Zam and Padme are going to be limited to the Wave 4 case.

It makes sense being they're the only female characters in this wave. It's a shame they're being limited to one case, as they appear to be doing more or less very well at retail.

Like was mentioned with Wedge, you never know where Zam (or a less likely Padme) might resurface in future assortments.  It seems to me Hasbro is currently looking at ways to refresh things, and get the line back on track...  Case assortments are probably getting some serious tweaking right now.  There isn't even a pre-order available for the next wave though, so who knows who may make a return in a future case?

They've repacked Obi-Wan and the Senate Guard in Wave 6... Obi-Wan is the big pegwarmer from that wave, at least around here. In fact, there's one local WM that has 4 pegs full of AOTC Obi-Wans and 4 pegs full of ROTS Obi-Wans :o

I found this entire wave at Wal-Mart last night. I bought Kit and Jango, and left the rest. I thought about buying a second Zam, but decided against it.

It's because of things like this where a wave that should have shipped around the 2010 holiday season is still in the pipeline that causing the difficulty in getting a wave like the RFT one out to the pegs now...  >:(

Happened into a K-Mart yesterday and picked up a Mace, Kit and SBD. With the exception of Jango, which I'll pick up in wave 7, I'm finally done with this wave.

I found yet another Wal-Mart in my area that restocked this entire wave.

EDIT: Today I found a third store that has stocked this wave.   ???
