Title: Episode III line....April 2nd, 2005
Post by: Vator on July 19, 2004, 07:08 PM
We've all heard the rumors that the Epsiode III line would be released in early April 05.
However, we now have semi-offical confirmation of that fact. The Offical Site today reveild that the Art of Episode III book would be coming out on the 2nd, as well as the Making of Episode III book.
Now in years past, these kinds of books were released at the same time as the Hasbro line, so given these facts, and previous reports, it looks as though the Episode III line will become available on April 2, 2005.

You heard it here first!

Given that Celebration 3 is also in late April as opposed to early May, this early debut seems likely.

Yeah, I am going to try and save $500.00 for the initial release, just to guarantee that I am able to get everything I want that first night.  I think I will take off the following Monday from work so I can have more quality time with my new toys. :D

I have changed since Ep. II.  I can honestly say that with all the news lately of the 3 3/4 line, I am not overly excited yet for next Spring for figures (the movie, I am pumped to see!). I can already say that I will not be buying every figure that comes out, especially since 2005 is the comeback year for action features.  I will wait and see what is coming out and the pictures and then decide.  Like the title of the movie, but I do not like the Ep. III packaging nor the action feature setup. In reality too, my son was 8 when Ep. II came out and he never wanted the action feature SW figures cause they were harder to play with; okay, except for the Anakin with two lightsabers.

2002 was the first time I had experienced any sort of "Midnight Madness".  I didn't do it during Episode I, but was pretty pumped for AOTC, and much deeper into collecting, so a friend and I decided to drive (about 40 miles) out of town to a Wal-Mart.  It was funny, there was probably about a dozen of us there waiting for them to "open the aisle", and I think I got most of the intial run except for a Royal Guard and Count Dooku, which I found later on.  That was by far the most Star Wars stuff I had ever bought at one time, and it was kind of a neat feeling coming home with great big bags of stuff to go through and open.  I think next year, since we're now in a city with Wal-Marts, Targets, and a TRU, I might try to do it again.  Either that or I might go the next day...it sounds like a lot of people had good luck doing that last time.  It is really exciting to get them as soon as you can, but I don't really like to "fight" over them with people either.  I had to save up for awhile last time to be ready for the big hit, I hope to do that again this time around.

April '05 is gonna be expensive.  Between The ROTS line and Celebration 3 AND taxes, I don't know how I'm going to get through that month.

Party pooper here.

I will try, with all of my will power to resist buying any of the non-essential figures in the line.  At least initially.  From watching Episode I and II released early on it seems that more than a few peg warmers and future clearance items emerge.  As an avowed opener, leaving it on the peg to get the snot beat out of it won't be an issue.

I was skeptical at the release of AOTC toys.  I thought surely they learned their lesson, they won't inundate the pegs again and I was wrong.  There isn't a figure I couldn't get at a fraction of the retail price within a year.  Within 3 months I was buying royal guards loose for $2 a piece.  Not a single early (first 20 figures) release figure from either movie has proven hard to find and only a dozen or so in total have been tough and sell for above retail, one of which is an OT fig - Ephant Mon.  But no, I thought no way will they get that much stock again.  I picked up Reeks for $4, Jango's Slave I for $8 and other ships/beasts at clearance prices.

My intent is to only pick up a few critical figures that I really like and then wait for the "kids" ::) to decide, once again, that they don't want them once the rush of the movie is over.  Watch me fail miserably as I storm the stores like a kid at Christmas.   :-\

Hey everyone,

I know it has been a while since I have wrote anything in here.  But I can say I am really thrilled about the new 3 3/4 - Revenge of the Sith line.  Can't wait to see all the "goodies" that are going to be out there!  How many figures do you think will be released for the debut?  About 15 or 20?

Well there's a blast from the past.  How's it goin' Matt?

I think someone posted an early general wave lineup somewhere, a while back (w/o specific figures), and it totaled about 24 or so at the initial Ep. 3 release.  Maybe someone else can confirm that a little better though.

From the JD.com news front page:

The JediDefender Spy Network has reported in with a sneak preview at what may be arriving for the Hasbro launch of Revenge of the Sith!

It appears that spring 2005 will see a return to the Collection 1 / Collection 2 separation of the basic figure line for Episode 3. Collection 1 will once again showcase the main characters (Ani, Obi-Wan, Padme, Palptine, Mace, Yoda) with Action Features, while Collection 2 focuses on the secondary characters (along with a few main characters) and posability.

Currently, there are plans at Hasbro for about 17 unique Collection 1 figures and 12 unique Collection 2 figures are in the works for the launch of Episode 3 (expect another Midnight Madness party at TRU as well).

There are plans for 2 or 3 different case assortments that include the 17 Collection 1 figures and at least 2 different case assortments of the 12 Collection 2 figures.

The hard-working staff here at JediDefender bring you the news as soon as we hear it, but please realize that with Hasbro, as always, everything is subject to change.

Only 29 figures initially?  And 17 of them will have action features?  Yeeuck!!

Glad for the information of course, and I doubt it isn't true.  This site is definitely more reputable than most others these days in my opinion.

Here's to hoping to seeing pics soon, as well as some info on vehicles/playsets, etc.

Thanks for the news scoop Jeff (and JD), always great to hear some "rumblings" now and then.  Although I am more of an OT person, I can say I am starting to get psyched for ROTS.  It will be interesting to see what the "action features" all entail this time around, and how bad it will be.  I went out at midnight last time to get the Episode II figures (most I had ever spent at once on Star Wars), and look back now and probably should have waited to get better versions of the main characters later on.  Hopefully I'll be able to hold out this time and wait it out.  I guess it all depends on what the figures look like, and what is available at launch.  I don't mind that there is only 29 figures or so, it becomes kind of overwhelming at launch sometimes too.  Looking forward to getting some sneak peeks at pics of the figures...and I hope they don't wait too long to release a Chewbacca (and the other Wookiees) figure. :)

If they are going to have action features I just hope they are better than the AOTC's features.  Somehow I doubt they will be though.  Hopefully we won't be getting extreme poses and facial expressions.    Save those for the Unleashed line please.

Keep in mind that there were only 21 figures (counting all four Battle Droids) on the launch of Episode I stuff and 27 figures for the Episode II launch.  I was overwhelmed with the Episode II stuff, and this is going to be the same situation.  We'll probably have another glut as well, so I'm not even going to bother with Midnight Madness again this time.  And don't worry, as Hasbro will no doubt release at least ten more new figures in the two weeks following the initial release like they did with the Saga line.

I'm all for a variety of characters on the launch of the line, and maybe I'm a little old fashioned, but I'd prefer a little mystery in the line from time to time.  Just the other day on another forum I frequent elsewhere, someone was discussing the fact that it would have been incredibly cool if the fact that Maul's double-bladed lightsaber was kept a secret until the opening of the film.  No Maul figures would be released with a double-bladed saber until after the film, that one shot would have never been shown in the teaser trailer, and so on and so forth.  Same thing with releasing the Deluxe "Darth Tyranus" on the same day as the Count Dooku basic figure (which they even put "Dark Lord" on as a subtitle) and the Yoda with a lightsaber before the film was released.  This time around, they'll probably end up releasing a Palpatine "revelation" figure before the film.

Yes, everyone knows most of this stuff before the film is released anyway, thanks to the wonders of the internet, but I still remember the old days when the Ewoks were blacked out on the backs of the ROTJ cards before that movie was released.  If ESB were released today, Hasbro would release a Darth Vader figure with the caption "Luke Skywalker's Father" on it.  ::)

In my world, they'd release 18 figures for the launch of the line, with no action features:

-Anakin Skywalker
-Obi-Wan Kenobi
-Padme Amidala
-Threepio
-R2-D2
-Mace Windu
-Yoda
-General Grevious
-Wookiee Warrior (generic)
-Clone Trooper
-Bail Organa
-Chancellor Palpatine
-and about six other background/Jedi/Separatist characters that had screen time but did nothing that could be construed as a spoiler.

About three weeks or so after the film opened, *then* they could release the Chewbacca, Darth Vader, Emperor Sidious, Count Dooku, Luke and Leia, Anakin Duel, Obi-Wan Duel, and whoever else.  Of course, I'm a complete nutjob, so what do I know? ;D

Seems to corroborate with the news we posted earlier on the return of C1 and C2 style releases with "kid friendly" figures and "collector friendly" figures.

I hope Hasbro doesn't snub the collectors though, and not dish them any main characters.  For every action-feature laden, pre-posed main character, he should have a super articulated, neutrally sculpted, non-action feature laden version as well.

It'll be interesting to see if C2 seemingly outsells C1...  Which would debunk a lot of Hasbro's insistance that the action features are popular.

That's an excellent point Jesse, I'd like to see them do something like that as well.  If they insist on releasing action featured/kid-tastic figures of the main characters, that's fine, as long as they release "normal" versions of them as well.  In fact, I wouldn't mind seeing them out around the same time, just to see which one sells better.  I have a feeling it would be the normal, well articulated versions.  Of course, we'll probably only see action featured ones for the first couple months, and finally get normal versions of the main characters by the time the fall rolls around  :P  I do think I'm going to try my best this time around to have patience, and not just settle for which version is currently out.  I have Outlander Anakin, Coruscant Chase Obi, and Arena Padme to remind me of that :).

I have no problem with the Action Features as long as they promise to do apology figures somewhere down the line.  They've been pretty good on that aspect, still need some nicer Episode II SA Anakin, Obi and Dooku, otherwise they corrected some pretty grievous (:P) errors

I just hope they don't muck up any OT figures this way...those were some of the real of the Saga line

I don't think we'll be seeing Padme Amidala in ROTS, based on the ending of EP II... ;) Or, did you mean that in your world Portman's character did *not* marry Anakin, and thus is still single and available?

Hmmm...

That's a good point.

Will Hasbro call her "Padme Skywalker" or "Padme Amidala Skywalker" or "Padme Amidala"?

I supposed since they were married in secret, she wouldn't change her name... or would she?   :-\

Or, maybe we'll get a Senator Padme Amidala figure AND a Padme Skywalker (Mustafar) figures?

I see that Sir Steve's (http://sirstevesguide.com/news/?m=show&id=30682) has a little report up regarding some 2005 stuff showing up in Target's computers.  Of particular interest:

STAR WARS E3 PREMOVIE BASIC FIG.
Price $6.99
Item: 85172
DPCI: 087 06 1244

STAR WARS E3 MEDIUM VEHICLE
Price: $19.99
Item: 85196
DPCI: 087 06 1246

They also have listings for the Jedi Force figure line ($7.99), Clone Wars Animated Figures ($6.99), and some Galactic Heroes stuff.  I see the "premovie" figures are listed at $6.99, which is not good.  Not sure if these are the later OTC waves that have been found online, or if it is the actual "preview" figures.  I sure hope the whole line isn't $7 a pop, unless they are all done VOTC-style (which I highly doubt).

EE did do a price increase on the post-OTC assortment, so at least it's Hasbro jacking the price globally, it seems.

So there's a Swami report up at GH, too, that talks about a bunch of the ROTS stuff. The vehicle list sounds great. Wookiee vehicles!  :)

I am assuming all the following are Deluxe figures mentioned in Swami's latest report?:

Spider Droid (bigger gun this time)
Yoda on Dragonfly
Darth Sidious Quick Change
Anakin with Snap on Vader armor
Droid with Operation Table
Clone Trooper 3 Pack

12 Inch
Aayla Secura (Looking forward to this one!)
Bariss Offee (maybe we'll see a 3-3/4 figure?)
General Greivous
Anakin with Vader armor

Playset
Mustafar (said to be a "small" playset)

Vehicles
Preview Anakin's Yellow Jedi Starfighter (Great!)
Tri Droid Fighter ( I have not seen a pic of these yet)
Wookie Helicopter (nice!)
ARC Troop Fighter (Guess ARC Troopers are in ROTS?)
Command Gunship (Repaint) - eh, ok I guess

Good stuff in my opinion.  I am kind of wondering when Yoda ends up on a Dragonfly.  Kashyyyk?  Dagobah?

Looking forward to the 3 3/4 list!!!

Yeah, I was curious about the dragonfly thing as well, don't remember reading anything about that thus far.  I'm with you, I'm definitely curious to see what will be coming down the pike as far as the basic assortment.  Also, although they sound neat in theory, I have some reservations about the "quick change" Palpatine, and snap-armor Vader.  They could be alright, but they could end up being craptastic.  Hopefully the Swami will have another report up soon.
Title: Re: Episode III line....April 2nd, 2005

I'm horrified by the sounds of the deluxe figures that hinge on gimmicky play mechanics. I'll be shocked to see something like snap-on Vader armor being done well. I imagine something similar to the Clone on Speederbike. Bleck.

Spider Droid with bigger gun - I also can't believe they're shoving a rehash into the line right away as well. That's a new low. Even for Hasbro.

Quote
ARC Troop Fighter (Guess ARC Troopers are in ROTS?)

If I remember my spoiler history right, they pilfered the ARC name just for the ship, and there aren't actual ARC Troopers in the movie.

For the initial release, I am planning on bringing at least $500 with me. I want to get most, if not all, the basic figures. If the Yoda on Dragonfly is real, I will definately be picking that up the first day too. I'm not too crazy on vehicles, so I probably won't be buying any of those. As for deluxe figures, i'm very picky when it comes to them. I may only pick up a few. The "snap on armor" Darth Vader sounds bad, in my opinion. I can just see this being another SAGA C-3PO with snap on armor, which was probably the worst figure in that line, just before Anakin Skywalker-Outland Peasant Disguise.

I saw there was a post on the SSG forums from member Jaff, who is a toy department manager (or something along those lines) with Wal-Mart.  His post two days ago contained this info, regarding the future of the OTC line, as well as the ROTS preview figures and upcoming line.  Interesting info I thought:

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Do I have a post for you folks Today!

First off I was wondering why after 4 weeks of ordering that I had not gotten one single case of SW figures. I was seriously annoyed that nothing new has been coming into my store. So I called our buyer and he was stumped, so he sent me to the actual Hasbro rep. I used this phone number gratefully and asked her what has happened with my new stuff. Here's what she said:

The OTC cases are now out in the warehouses, and we are not going to produce any more. Since Hasbro has raised the prices on their cases a new toy mod will be down in December. 58,000 cases have shipped from the orient this week to Wal-Mart stores, and these cases represent the Episode I post OTC wave. The OTC wave is cancelled. You read that last sentance right. I also wanted to know from the horse's mouth if the VOTC line is cancelled next month. She said YES. I asked her what were we going to get new until episode III. She said there is another case (Filterpern) that will ship in December/January, and on 2/1/05 the Episode III preview figures will hit the shelves. She did give me the exact date. She said that the preview figures will be the last case until the release of the Episode III figures were released. She told me when they would be released too.

The release date for the Episode III figs will be 4/2/05!

Start counting the days! This date is final, and I assure you authentic.

58,000 cases of Post-OTC 1 heading to Walmart? According to Walmart, they operate a combined 3033 Walmarts/Supercenters in the US... that's 19-odd cases per store.  :-\ That doesn't sound right. So I'll take his post (or the reps information) with a grain of salt.

If true though, its going to be pretty quiet until the ROTS figures hit, and I'll bet we'll be in pegwarmer city with the preview wave, great figs or not. Sounds like they'll have a window of months on the shelves alone.

Post by: Jesse James on November 5, 2004, 01:26 AM
He's been posting at Rebelscum too, and what I find odd is that "production" ceased LONG ago...  On OTC and VOTC.

He keeps throwing the term"Production" around, and how it stopped, which to me says he doesn't know what he's talking about.  Point, blank, period.

It isn't like there's just factories over the pond churning these out continuously.  Toys are made in batches, and reorders of product are placed should they be deemed necessary.

In the case of OTC, things have been "limited" to an extent for the duration of the line, and the OTC line itself was made as a filler line for the DVD release...  Production was started at one point, and ceased so that product would ship for the orders that were requested from retail.  Simple.

Orders for OTC AFTER the fact would be moot, and the buyer would be told (Should be told he's an idiot for not knowing his product) "The production of that line's done, we have new cases available to you in this time of year, order them, they're transition figures into E3 stuff".  In maybe loose terms there...

VOTC, again, was something with a set run for production.  Retail gave its opinion on what was offered, Hasbro put in an order for a set ammount, and Hasbro (quite plainly) made it clear that when it's done, it's done.  No more VOTC will be made/shipped after that point because they're getting ready for E3.

This guy posting this news, and talking about it at Scum and things, seems more intent on starting a mass panic that "OTC and VOTC are Cancelled!  Buy them while you can!", rather than saying that this was the reality of the OTC line and most every other line Hasbro has made.

Yes OTC and VOTC are "done".  Did everyone think they'd last into ROTS product or something?  There's not much time between now and then...  There's lotsa stuff in the pipelines for stores, things are just now going out to the retailers for X-Mas, and it'll include the transition figures come December and into next year.

Maybe I'm just missing the guy's point...  But "production" stopped on OTC and VOTC a long time ago...  It's not news, and not surprising, and it's not like there's going to be a surprise shortage of figures really.  Some seemingly are getting shafted on production, but how many basic OTC figures really shipped heavily at all?  Not many except NEW figures that Hasbro thought would sell the best.

It's really just confusing "panic" I'm seeing right now...  It's a shame people start these rumors because now Rebelscum's all aflutter with the people thinking they're now not going to ever find VOTC figures because they're being short-produced somehow.  I wouldn't be surprised if there's the exact same # of ROTJ VOTC figures as there are ANH, they're just being distributed differently.  That's me though...  Either way, Production stopped LONG before this guy "figured it out", and then subsequently, "broke the news" as it were.  ::)

Yeah, I wasn't sure what to think of the news either, just thought I'd post it here.  I don't really post at either Scum or SSG, but visit their forums every so often just to see what conversations might be going on.  I don't know how reliable this person is, just that he works at Wal-Mart.  I think Jesse is right on though, it probably isn't a real shocker that these toys have stopped production...that probably happened awhile ago already...they are just now in the pipelines and making their way to stores.  I'm sure they have moved onto starting (or into) production on ROTS stuff by now, although I'm certainly not very knowledgeable on things like that.  Either way, might be a bit of a gap of "new stuff" until the preview wave, which I guess is ok with me in a way, so I can save up for the ROTS onslaught.  Plus, judging from the pegs around here anyways, OTC is starting to sit pretty heavily now, so I don't think we'll be looking at bare pegs anytime soon either.

I'll be heading to Target April 5.  I made the mistake of going to a Wal Mart for AOTC and they had a limit of 2 Star Wars items per person.   My fellow collectors and I were very disappointed.  They did not have every assortment, either.  I chose the Count Dooku and the Hanger Duel Anakin, which turned out to be the right choices because I didn't see those figures for a long time afterwards.  I also went to 2 Targets and a TRU that day.  I ended up with all the figures I wanted.  I didn't pick up everything because of the goofy poses and action features.  I left turds like the snap on 3PO, Outlander Ani and the Amidala on the pegs.

Right now looks like I'll be spending a ton on Midnight Madness. Not so much because we've got a lot of new toys, but because of armybuilders. I could use a force of about 30 SA Clones from III I'd imagine...

Yeah. Best course of action (for me at least) might be to go to the midnite madness sale and just get clones. I did that around the Episode 2 midnite sale. Well, not only clones, but I think I grabbed an extra case of the red clone trooper that was available that night.

My plan so far is to snag about 4 - 6 Clones and a Palpy. The Clones will definately be the fast sellers of the line, unless they are mass produced, or Hasbro ships cases of Clones only. Yeah, that'll happen.

Well, my plan is to get one of every main character, and probably 2 of Emperor Palpatine.  The ony figure I might pass on is the Super Battle Droid...

For other army builders though, I'll try and get about 10 Clone Troopers that first night/day, and if they have a regular Battle Droid and Wookie Warrior, then about 5 or 6 of each of those.  And a coupe of the Grievious bodyguard.

So, anyway, I think there are going to be around 29 regular figures the first night.  Include some army builders, and that will probably mean I am getting somewhere in the ballpark of 45-50 regular figures the first night if I can.  That could be around $300.00 in regular figures alone...

Cinema Scenes I believe will be in the mix - around 3 or 4 of them.  There's another $80.00 maybe...

Then, count in the Deluxe figures.  At about $10 a pop, and I think there is supposed to be around 5 of them, well that's another $50.00 or so...

Vehicles?  Who knows for sure, but I'm sure there will be anywhere from 2-4 vehicles - that could be up to $100.00...

Playsets - doubt we'll see too much, but to be safe there, I'll add another $50.00 to my estimate....

Well, that puts me at around $500.00 - 600.00 the first night alone... oh God...

Not a fan of the Super Battle Droid? I think it looks great in comparison to the Super Happy Meal Droid from SAGA.

Anyway CHEWIE has made me realize how expensive this is going to be...then Celebration III and the subsequent waves...dear lord, what have I created? WHAT HAVE I BECOME?!

Well, I don't think the SBD will suck, but I think it might be a rehash of the deluxe version that came with Yoda.  We'll see... I have about 20 or so of the SAGA/CLONE WARS version(s), so I don't know how many more I really need.  I'll probably pick up a couple of the ROTS one though.

Yeah, this is going to be VERY EXPEN$IVE!!   :o

I'm going to buy very little, at least initially.  I'll also be avoiding the SBD, as well as figures I just don't need another of, like R2 or Chewie.  Maybe Yoda too, depending on how different he is from the others.

I'm almost positive there will be a Padme in Collection 2.  She's probably not involved in much action because of her pregnancy, which likely explains her absence from collection 1.  But who knows.

I'm hoping to see a Padme with the hair buns on the first night of figures - anything would probably be better than the terrible EP2 Arena Padme we got last time!  That figure makes me want to barf  :-X

I'm looking forward to seeing some more Jedi too - looks like all we've seen so far are the main Jedi and not any background ones.

It's tough for me because I need to watch what I spend.  So, most likely I will be going for the main characters like Anakin, Palpatine, Vader, Chewie.  I will most likely leave behind SBD, R2-D2, Tion Meddon, maybe even Mace.   Unfortunately I won't be able to afford vehicles which is really going to be upsetting, but that's the way life goes.

Action-Figure.com (http://www.action-figure.com/Article13419.html) has an article up detailing the Star Wars offerings from Hasbro in 2005.  Much of it is stuff we have heard before, some new details here and there.  I'm wondering exactly what the "Attacktix Deluxe Battle Masters" line is, as well as the accompanying case/playset things.  There is also mention of the 500th Vader (meditation chamber) figure.  Anyways, more details at the linky above.

Did you all see the Evolutions line near the bottom?  I was wondering if they would do something like that and apparently theyare.  Basically a 3 pack of good Anakin, bad Anakin, and Vader.  I am wondering who else they will make?  Kenobi?  Palpatine?  Etc?
Title: Re: Episode III line....April 2nd, 2005
Post by: Brian on December 6, 2004, 04:13 PM
Oh yeah, that was another one I wanted to touch on.  I think those Evolution packs could be pretty cool if done right.  Trying to think of characters that span the Saga pretty well....Anakin/Vader, Obi-Wan, Palpatine, 3PO/R2, Clones/Stormtroopers....Yoda and Chewbacca are possibilities, but their appearance doesn't really change all that much I guess.
Title: Re: Episode III line....April 2nd, 2005
Post by: Darth Broem on December 6, 2004, 04:41 PM
I just had a bad thought though.  What if they are just going to throw in repacks again.  You know.  Anakin from the Ep1 line.  Anakin from the Saga line.  That would blow hard.  Hopefully they are all new sculpts.

Same goes with those 5 packs.  Assuming they are the 3 3/4 scaled figures.
Title: Re: Episode III line....April 2nd, 2005
Post by: Brian on December 7, 2004, 08:45 AM
Yeah, I was worried that repacks are a definite possibility with those "evolution" sets.  Hopefully that is not the case.  One repack scenario I could see us all enjoying would be if Hasbro released an evolution pack with a SA Clonetrooper, a ROTS Clonetrooper, and a VOTC Stormtrooper.  That is probably wishful thinking though :).

Taking a look at THIS PICTURE (http://www.galactichunter.com/photo.asp?image=absoluteNm/articlefiles/3712-SWEP3_01.jpg) at GH...from the cover of the ROTS tpb coming out next year from Dark Horse, and it looks as if some of the clonetroopers may be sporting pauldrons similar to the sandtroopers.  I wonder if that will be in the movie as well, or maybe just for the comics.  Since it is the "movie TPB", I would think it would be accurate, but who knows.   You can see the pic at the link above if interested.

Sorry....another post :).  Anyways, action-figure.com has UPDATED (http://www.action-figure.com/Article13431.html) yesterday's list of 2005 Star Wars releases with a few more that were left out of yesterday's report.  To me, the Attacktix line sounds somewhat like the Star Wars miniatures, but maybe I'm wrong.  One thing that caught my eye in the list was this:

EIII Battle Arena Assortment with figures: Mini play sets allow kids to recreate battles from the movie. Battle control features allow figures to fight head to head duels. Plays sets are modular and can be connected to other play sets for customised play. Each set includes 2 bases and 2 exclusive 3 ¾" figures.

Also other new listings include the Unleashed line, Mustafar playset, lightsaber/role play, and "Force Battlers 7 inch assortment", which to me sounds like the JediForce line.  It mentions that the figures include leg squeezing for "lightsaber slashing and bashing".  If they have it in this line, why did it have to be in the basic figure line as well? :)  Anyways, more details at the link if you are interested.

Juggernaught's were the early concept sketches of the AT-AT for ESB.  Had 8 wheels, was about the same height (estimating that), and the EU's taken the Juggernaught and used it in some various stories as just a different ground vehicle the Empire employs.

I think it's an armored convoy type vehicle in EU terms, more than an attack vehicle or troop transport.

The film juggernaught looks somewhat changed from the EU one possibly...  May not even be the same vehicle in Star Wars terms, just similar.

Ok, now GH has a list up of product (courtesy of Sithclan.net), and includes a list of basic figures (http://www.galactichunter.com/absolutenm/templates/full_article_template_1.asp?articleid=3719&zoneid=2).  Of course none of this is confirmed, so we'll have to wait and see...but judging by this listing, I count 44 basic figures (not counting preview).  Of course, on that list, there are doubles of Anakin, Obi-Wan, Grievous, Yoda, Palpatine, and Clones (which is ok).  Judging by the numbering (which may go by order of release for 2005), if those doubles are legit, they may be coming later in the year.  Anyways, click the linky above for the whole she-bang.

Looking at the list again, it looks as if some numbers are missing here and there in the "sequence".  Could still be some surprises coming up (not that any of this is confirmed anyways).  Going by those numbers, I'm guessing, in collection 1, that figures numbered 46 on will be later in the year, as well as 40-ish on in collection 2 as well.  Anyways, the number we have been hearing for launch day is 29, and if you count up what we know from collection 1, and insert 18-42 of collection 2, that comes out about right.  A possibility at least.

Post by: Morgbug on January 4, 2005, 11:47 AM
Not sure quite where this question fits, so I'll ask it here.  I'm trying to figure out how many figures will be released in 2005 in total.  Going from Brian's information in the preceding post, we're looking at 44 figures minus any deluxe figures.  Or are we looking at 66 figures as the numbers indicate?  If so, is that exclusive of any OT figures?  Or are the later numbers later because of a later in the year mix in of OT figures?

While I'm at it, how does the Jedi Starfighter qualify as a "large" vehicle?  Does that mean that larger vehicles won't be made (I know, cross pollination of threads)? And if so, why is there an AT-TE gunner figure but no AT-TE?

If there's a BARC speeder with BARC trooper (B-ARC?) does that mean there will be a BARC trooper without speeder bike?

Is it a removable hood?  Or is it maybe one of those "turning heads" action features, a la Man-E-Faces from the He-Man line?

I wouldn't be surprised if one side of the head was Old Palpatine and the other side of the head was wrinkly Sidious with a little turny-wheel in the back to switch the faces...

Hard to tell from the crappy cellphone pics, but that Anakin/Vader looks very cheapo deluxe style, built much more for the play value than sculpt accuracy.

The 12" version look like it's a winner, though. Looks like it has a scarred face option and a nice Vader suit -- I really like the two piece helmet.

I too will be going to WM for the simple fact they're selling cheaper.  If Target's reading this on any level, may you be alerted that I'm NOT going to spend $1 each per figure more than WM when I can get to WM's easier and pay less.

I'd sooner give my $ to TRU or Target any day...  Without a doubt.  I despise WM on every level, but I can safely say that without a price reduction (major) from these other retailers then I'm going where it's cheapest to get when I'm not waiting for clearance on.

I agree with you Jesse.  I'd sooner give my money to Target than Wal-Mart any day, and actually the Mrs. and I really enjoy shopping at Target for a variety of things, but if it does end up being a $1+ more per figure, I think Wal-Mart will be getting my ROTS business if they have the goods.  Figures are $5.88 here as well, with a $6.99 tag at Target (although they don't have any).  Plus, in our case, Wal-Mart is considerably closer to us as well.  Maybe Target will decide to drop their prices, $7 just seems a bit high, especially with Marvel Legends, Lord of the Rings, etc. being cheaper.

Now, for the ROTS stuff, thanks for the heads up on the pics over at SSG.  Pretty cool.  The Anakin-to-Vader figure might be kind of neat, and something I'll probably pick up for the "fun" of it regardless.  The "quick change" Palpy obviously is for the kiddos, and I don't mind as we know we're getting other versions of this character that are more collector-oriented anyways (but maybe not in this particular outfit?).  Anyways, I think that I might consider picking up this version too for fun, depending on the budget at the time and seeing it in person.  I would have liked it as a kid too, as Spuffy said earlier.  I don't collect the 12" figures, but the two shown at SSG don't seem to look too bad.  The Anakin is kind of neat too.

The list sounds about right as far as the amount of stuff coming out this year.  It's definitely a movie year.

Galactic Hunter now has a full checklist scan up, listing 56 basic figures.  You can check it out HERE. (http://www.galactichunter.com/absolutenm/templates/full_article_template_1.asp?articleid=3854&zoneid=2)  Looks like it is official, from Hasbro, as well.  Really need to save up (more) for this :).

Holy Schnikes!

56 Basic figures?!?

Look at all those names...

AT-TE Gunner?!?  I hope this means an AT-TE is on the way!

Anakin Skywalker on Mustafar!  I wonder what that means as far as "battle damage" goes?!?

TARKIN?!?!  :o

Ah, crap... so much for avoiding spoilers.  :(

I love days like this - so much to look forward to!!

This might be a stupid question, but has anyone heard if all of these are new sculpts?  You don't think they'd sneak any repacks in would they?  I'm expecting they're all new since they are all specific to ROTS, but any possibility that Hasbro would simply repaint some old sculpts for some characters?  Geez, I must be getting pessimistic despite my excitement.   ??? /  :)

Amazon has release dates for a few ROTS vehicles as February 8th. Why I never rely on Amazon I wonder if we could see anything else earlier?

Obi-Wan's Starfighter? Guh. It's probably just a repainted Anakin's Starfighter.

And the cost just keeps building up. Perhaps the spreading over time is going to be benefitical to prevent clogging and keep some funds.

If this list is correct there will be 32 basic figures coming out in April alone.  Wow!  That's not counting vehicles, deluxe, 12 inchers, etc.

Galactic Hunter (http://www.galactichunter.com/absolutenm/templates/full_article_template_1.asp?articleid=3909&zoneid=2) has some front carded shots up of Collection 1 figures Yoda (2nd version), Tarfful, Anakin (2nd), and Obi-Wan (2nd).  Looks like the second versions of Ani, Obi, and Yoda have some sort of action feature (spinning attack?).  Check out the eyes on that Anakin figure though...creepy ;).  Tarfful looks nice.

The wookies are getting interesting, to say the least.  This is how ROTJ should have been ;)

That Yoda figure looks passable.  As in I may pass on it.  Slashing feature?  Blech, straight down motion, I would hazard.  Anakin looks like I do after going out drinking.  Best not to mess with me either.   :-X

On second thought, that Obi Wan doesn't look so hot.  The first one has more articulation.   Anakin looks really good as does the Wookie.   Yoda looks great on the card but I'll wait and compare the two before I make my decision.

Hmmm.... I think

Anakin looks kickass - definitely a must buy; maybe several of these will be needed.

Obi Wan is iffy - yeah I'll get it, but I might not like this one too much.

Tarrful - duh, of course I'm getting multiples of him.

Yoda - ...this figure looks terrible... but the base does look interesting... I might pick it up for that.   :-[

Hmmmm, I have not seen a Yoda I like yet.
Anakin, I still like it better than the 1st version.
Kenobi, not as good as I thought but it will do for me.
Tarful, really looks great to me.  He's a definite must have for me.

Dear Hasbro, the character name is "Anakin Jedi Massacre" not "Anakin Jedi Mascara'.

Not too impressed with these, but Tarfful looks ok, and I'm happy his action feature seems limited to his bowcaster.

What a huge leap in paint app quality over the AOTC beasts. Looks good!

Too bad the other two prequel lines weren't as awesome as this line. They might have done better.

For Episode I, I understand that six years have passed, and those were the best at the time, but for AOTC, there's no excuse that those figures should not have been like this.

The vehicles are shaping up to be pretty nice. I actually like Obi-Wans fighter much more than Anakins. Much or military.

Grevious's wheelbike looks to be a pretty solid vehicle too. I'll have to get that Tuesday from Amazon.com, if that report turns true.

Yeah, the Boga and vehicle pics this weekend were a nice surprise, and everything looks pretty great.  Just like others have mentioned, it really makes me realize how craptastic much of the line was for AOTC.  This is shaping up to be a heck of a movie line overall I think, and it looks like I'll be spending a lot this year ;).
