Saga '02-'04 / Re: What 2003 SAGA product are you still missing?
« on: June 19, 2003, 09:22 AM »
We still haven't seen any 2003 figures actually in the stores around here, but I eventually broke down and ordered SC Anakin, Acklay Obi, Droid Factory Padme, the Tusken Raider, Geonosis Dooku, and the Arena Mace from Kebco awhile back when they were all $4.99.  I also have Jedi Luke, Hoth Han, Mynock Chewie, Yoda w/Chian, Jempa/Ashla, Snowtrooper, Unleashed Han, Yoda, and Boba, and the 12" scale Yoda on preorder from Kebco as well.  The Targets around here have been cleared out too, and the TRU have been thinned out quite a bit too, so I'm hoping new stuff will start showing up.  I missed out on the preorders for Aayla, Carkoon Boba, Barriss, etc., so I'm hoping to find those (or anything else new) :).

A post by Jesse James regarding how Hasbro should eventually have an ultimate versions line (with main characters...great idea by the way), got me to thinking.  Are there any figures out there that any of you feel are pretty close to the "ultimate"?  I know almost all figures can always be improved on, whether it be the sculpt, the painting, the articulation, or the accessories....but I was wondering if there are any figures that you think come pretty close.  I know some figures of main characters seem to be generally looked upon pretty favorably (such as Cloud City Chewie, Commtech Han, Bespin Capture Han, Bespin Luke, etc.)...are any of them "ultimate" enough for you...and if not, what would you change?  Boy, do you think I could have slipped "ultimate" in that post anymore :P

Although I'm always a fan of seeing new figures come out, I thought fifty new ones seemed a little bit high too.  I am concerned (as many others have stated), with the distribution though.  It is nearing July, and there have been no 2003 (or the late 2002) figures in my area at all.  Thanks goodness for online ordering, but if Hasbro, the stores themselves, or wherever the problem may lie don't get this figured out soon, it could really start hurting the line.  Out with the old, in with the new!  Hopefully things will improve once Clone Wars is released, the line seperates, and everything has new cardbacks, maybe the stores can differentiate between the old and new a little bit better then :).

I would say that I'm "out" for the most part.  I don't go around announcing to everyone I see or work with that I'm a collector, but if anyone ever asked about my favorite movies, or my hobby, I would gladly tell them.  I used to get a little more embarassed of it when I first started collecting again (as an adult), but as I found communities such as this, I found out that there are many of you out there like me.  My wife is 100 percent supportive of my Star Wars collecting, gives me a few jokes about it from time to time, but always checks out toy aisles for me and will talk to me about it whenever I want to.  My family (and hers) all know I collect, though maybe some don't know the full extent of what I have.  My close friends know I collect as well, but most of them haven't ever actually seen it.  A few of my co-workers know I collect, and the majority of them know I'm a big Star Wars fan.  Like I said, I don't go around announcing it to anyone, but if anyone asked me, I would be glad to tell or show them. :)  I guess the bottom line is, while you should never be ashamed of who you are, you should only do what you are comfortable with too.  Its your life, just live it like you want to.  God and your loved ones will love you regardless :).

I would also agree with Jesse James being the president...his ideas are exactly what I would hope to see done with the line.  The Ultimate Collector Series would be tremendous, and would be a top seller if done in the fashion he is talking about.  Hopefully something like this will come in the future, I think it would be better for both Hasbro and us collectors (and the kids for that matter).  Great ideas everyone. :)

Power of the Jedi / Re: Best POTJ Fig?
« on: June 10, 2003, 12:28 PM »
Many figures in this line were done very, very well...but I really think that the overall best would have to be the 300th Figure Boba Fett...it may not be the most articulated or poseable figure in the world, but the sculpt, paint, and general appearance is almost perfection.  Other favorites of mine from this line would have to be Bespin Capture Han, FX-7, and the Scout Trooper.

The Original Trilogy / Re: Who's Your Favorite Cantina Alien?

I'll have to agree with others in this post, and go with Hammerhead as well.  I also like knowing him better as "Hammerhead" than "Momaw Nadon" for some reason....maybe it just reminds me of simpler days :).

The Original Trilogy / Re: Favorites
« on: June 10, 2003, 11:41 AM »
Character: Han Solo (although Yoda, Luke and Chewie are favorites too, Yoda's in the PT as well, so we'll give Han the nod...plus, he was my favorite as a child)

Vehicle: Millennium Falcon - its always been my favorite, played with a vintage falcon handed down to me from my cousin all the time as a kid, it was just a cool ship.

Scene:  Probably either the Jedi duel, or the Bespin duel, both were amazing.  I'll give the nod to the Bespin duel due to the "father" line.

Quote: Other than the one from the scene above, I'd have to say one of these:
"Do or do not, there is no try"
"No time to discuss this with the committee"
"Judge me by my size do you?"
"And I thought these things smelled bad on the outside"

Great topic, by the way :).

Also, for anyone who hasn't seen them already...here's a link (thanks again, OCB) to a number of pictures and information about Series IV (you'll have to scroll down a little bit)

Personally, I think the Beast figure is great....just some of the poses that are possible with that figure....plus, he's always been one of my favorite Marvel characters.

I think I'd pick one up if Hasbro made it and it was reasonably priced....this person did a very nice job on their custom job too.

Morgbug, thanks for the reply...and thanks for posting that list.  I was going to go back and do that when I got back from my lunch break, but you took care of it.  Thanks!

Just thought I would start a thread to discuss this great line.  I just started collecting some of these (just the X-Men characters for now), and have learned quite a bit about this line from OCB.  It is the only other line I collect besides Star Wars, and like many of you, I'm not finding much of those lately.  Do many of you collect this line...what are your opinions...or anything else you want to talk about relating to the ML line.  I personally think Wolverine and Magneto are both great figures (only ones I have), and I can't wait for the Series IV Beast to be released later this year (as well as Gambit).  Anyways, I'd be happy to hear anyone's thoughts and opinions on this line.

Just thought I'd start a thread to discuss the Playskool line, sorry if it is already posted elsewhere...I'm new here :).  Personally, I really like this line.  I currently only have the Falcon and Hoth sets, but would like to eventually pick up the rest of the OT sets.  I think they are great for kids (although we don't have any yet, I'll save these for the future), but I'll have to admit I enjoy them quite a bit too.  They are just "fun", kind of how the vintage line was for me when I was a kid.  I especially enjoy the Falcon set.  I don't have room to display them, so it reminded me of my childhood having to put all of the figures in the back of the falcon...just like the old days :).  I really hope this line continues, even if it is limited...because it seems to be pretty popular.  What are your opinions on the line, or ideas for sets you think could be made?

With the way the distribution has been for many people this year, do you ever pick up something, just because you are happy to see something new....and later think "why did I get this?".  Personally, I start to consider and get some figures, etc., that I'm not sure I would have gotten if it wasn't for the big lulls.  I personally haven't seen any 2003 figures around here yet, but I did order (and pre-order) a few online.  Awhile back Kebco had some of the earlier 2003 figures (Obi-Wan, Tyrannus, Padme) on sale, so I ordered a few...but now looking at them, I'm not sure if I needed the Acklay Obi, or the Flex Mace.  This happened last year once in awhile as well, which is why I have GR Mace, Deluxe Anakin w/ Geonosian, etc.  Anyways, has this ever happened to you?

I have visited the forums a few times over here, but just joined up today.  It looks like you have a great community over here, and I want to thank OCB for letting me know about it.  Some of you may have seen me posting over at GH from time to time (and I used to be on RS), but I am happy to be part of this great community...so....Hello!
