@ tiny--I also won a stealthtank auction, hehe. Got a set of six w/ AT-ST parts; I'm pretty jazzed!  ;D
You outbid me in the last few seconds on that one :(  but I won the other lot :D

Someone got an absolute steal with the entire case for $100.

Modern Trading / Have: Amanaman Kubrick Want: Hoth Leia Kubrick
« on: August 31, 2010, 11:53 PM »
Title says it.  No BAF Jabba piece, just Amanaman, and I'm looking for the Hoth Leia from the new DX set.  Would prefer to trade within the U.S. :)

I have extensive positive feedback on the Minimate Multiverse and Sideshow Freaks forums, also some on tfw2005, hisstank.com, and yojoe.com.  Same username.

Regarding the chases, it seems like the cheap repaint syndrome has hit Medicom hard recently.  They've been re-releasing Disney figures, including chases, out the wazoo recently (Toy Story, various 2-packs, etc.).  And they even just re-released 2 of the Metal Gear RAH figures.  Maybe this is affecting the Star Wars waves, as well.

Just bought a pre-order of the 6 basic figures plus Jabba from eBay for $90 shipped.  I think that's a fair price.  I couldn't justify buying the entire box for a handful of extras that I can't even complete Jabba with.

Here's to hoping the guy actually gets these in within a month.

My interests in Kubricks has faded a bit because of the lack of interesting releases recently, but the fancy Deluxe series is pulling me back in.  Time for them to release some Aliens Colonial Marines and those Ghostbusters, I say.

One cardboard diorama per Master Case is just insane.  What the hell is Medicom doing?

Yeah, throwing in a truly hard to find chase makes it more worth someone's while to buy an entire case at prices like that, but the incentive seems to go away when your rarest figure is 1/12.  Of course, that will mean decreased demand as fewer people will buy and open boxes beyond what they narrowly need, so ultimately the price per set may not be much below the price per box of 12. . .and of course, we still aren't sure how Jabba is going to work.  I'll be curious to see this play out.  I have been collecting these things for a couple of years now, and still am stumped as to how brand new block figures can cost so damn much.  Then I think about the price of Medicom's RAH figures compared to Hot Toys, and I begin to understand the bigger story--price gouging because there is an audience (i.e. us) who is willing to pay, period.

Hey guys, if you do work out some kind of group buy deal and post the details, I might be interested in taking part.  I needs me my Kubrick Jabba!

With Jessie, we have another new instance of Medicom re-releasing chase figures in easy to obtain multi-packs.

I wonder when they'll start doing this with Star Wars figures. . .

Have to check and see if the made Tigh with a patch as a Minimate.

You can probably find him at your local TRU.  These aren't selling very well.

And I would debate you as to whether the Minimates could compare with Kubricks, but I'm sure that isn't a popular argument around here, so I won't go there ;)

Well, it seems to be late evening of the 23rd in Nihon right now, and on Medicom's website, I only see Neon Genesis Evangelion Kubrick stuff.  There is also a crappy Mickey Mouse Be@rbrick.  Is this stuff newly listed?

Very nice.  I wouldn't mind having one of those for my Minimate "Man With No Name" Blondie figure.

Kubricks / Re: Kubrick Newbies - Questions and Advice

I don't know specific numbers released.  I know that DST and Hot Toys are both very secretive about quantities produced of non-exclusives, and wouldn't be surprised if Medicom was the same.  However, I can tell you that value will be determined by not only production number, but demand.  A rare, carded Boba Fett may exist, but given that there are umpteen thousand loose versions of the same figure, and 20 or so variants of him, his price won't be likely as high as a distinctive, reasonably hard to find and somewhat popular one-off character in the short or long run, in my opinion.

As for what something is worth, that depends on how much you want it of course.  If it doesn't seem outrageous to you, then it isn't.  If it does, then it is.  If you are a Kubrick completist, however, then I pity you and your bank account.

As for your belief that these will be worth more in decades to come, I respectfully disagree.  I don't think the Kubrick line will last that long, and when figures stop being produced, I think interest will wane and value will go down.  Just my hunch.

Any medicom updates this month?

Yes, but no new Star Wars items.
True, but that Kaneda figure from Akira is awesome!  Not $200 awesome, but awesome nonetheless!

I tried to re-join last week or so.  Still no activation e-mail.  Pretty annoying, actually.
