Jocasta's Reading Room / Re: Marvel comic line
« on: August 23, 2004, 01:30 PM »
Actually, after viewing your latest collection pics DBK, and seeing pics of your some of your comics framed, I'm kind of interested to see if I can pick a few from the Marvel run up on ebay.  I really enjoyed these when I was a kid, and they hold that sort of nostalgia that the vintage toy line does as well.  Anyways, are the regular release comics pricey and/or hard to come by?  Are there certain ones that are rarer or tougher to get than others?  I really have no idea about this stuff, but thought it might be neat to have a few to read and possibly frame like that.

DBK--Nice pics, I really like the looks of your collection.  Plus, I really like how your collection/room overall has a nice "clean" look to it.  That is something I'm always trying to work for as well, keeping my collection looking "neat" and not starting to seem over-cluttered.  Definitely some nice ideas from your pics there.  Nice!

Revenge of the Sith / Re: Wookie Army
« on: August 23, 2004, 01:08 PM »
I hope to pick up several wookiees.  I usually don't have huge armies, but like to build little ones.  Plus, I really enjoy Chewbacca, and wookiees in general, and I'm glad we're seeing more of them (in action) in the next movie.  I hope they make several, and I'll be happy to buy them :).

Yeah, the auctioning off of these figures is a bit odd.  I see in the blurb that these will be released at retail in October, retail of $7.99.  Surprising to see, but most of the auctions seem to be getting pretty high...not surprising, Vader is obviously the hottest of the batch.

I'm not sure if I'm going to get into this line or not, although I do want to get a Chewbacca if possible.  Always like the wookiee :).  I wonder if it will go beyond the initial wave.  Also, its getting tough to keep up with all the different lines/brands in the Star Wars world anymore.  Basic figs, Galactic Heroes, Jedi Force, Unleashed, busts, mini busts, etc, etc.  Too much stuff, not enough money or space :).

Middle Earth / Re: LOTR Trilogy Figures

According to TheGD.com TTT Series 3 has now started to show up...in Japan.  Not quite here yet, but should at least be on the way.  Some might not be too excited about these, but I've been waiting to get an Aragorn and Frodo for my collection, and there are "super poseable" versions of each of these included in this wave.  Looking forward to them.  Wave includes:  Super Poseable Helm's Deep Aragorn, Super Poseable Frodo, Gamling, Boromir: Captain of Gondor, and the Isengard Orc.

That is a cool poster Matt.  The "figure collection" posters are always kind of neat, and it doesn't get better than an OTC one.  Plus, since we know that the line "ends" at 38 (aside from the exclusive Emperor), you've got the whole collection displayed on one poster.  The figure posters always kind of remind me of the vintage cardbacks, just enjoyed seeing the whole collection together like that.  Of course, when I was a kid in the vintage days, you had to actually use the cardbacks to know what was out, or what was coming out :P

More than likely, those Han, Leia, and Ben figures will still be sitting around when Ep. III hits, and probably after that.

Or, I'm wrong, and everybody will go nuts over these in late September. Could happen. Not bloody likely, but it could happen.

That's something I was kind of wondering about too, if those initial figs (Han, Ben, Leia) would end up sitting around or not.  Checking the stores this weekend, it seems like...for some reason...that the VOTC sells out when it comes to TRU, but there are TONS of Han, Leia, and Obis hanging at Wal-Mart (which is basically right next to TRU in this particular instance).  Target usually has a couple Hans, and a couple Obis hanging, but not quite as bad as Wal-Mart.  Curious if these will start to sit, I guess if for some reason they get clearanced, its a good chance to pick more up.  Maybe the DVD push will help them sell more.  On the other side of things...I rarely see any regular OTC basic figures sitting, they are selling out wherever they show up...and selling out quickly.  Price point just might be the big sticking point on these for many people, and the "casual" collector.

Original Trilogy Collection / Re: VOTC/OTC Purchases

Stopped by TRU on Friday night while we were out and about, and was fortunate enough to find a VOTC Luke and Yoda.  Missed the Vader though.  Our TRU hasn't had any VOTC since about a month ago, and someone who was working there told me they got two "boxes" of them in that morning, and "one guy" came in a bought a stack of them.  Nice employee at TRU though, he was quite excited about the VOTC line, and seemed to be a good guy.  I got the last of the Yoda and Luke, there were still 3-4 Hans hanging out.  Just need Vader to get caught up now, until the others start showing up  :)

Vintage Kenner / Re: Anyone else getting really sick of...
« on: August 23, 2004, 08:18 AM »
Yeah, I've noticed this too, and it has become quite annoying.  Just looking for vintage figures and running into VOTC everywhere.  I've also noticed it looking for other items, lots of "vintage" Episode I stuff out there, as jokabofe mentioned.  Like you said, there's a "vintage" and a "modern" Star Wars listing area, you would think that would be simple enough :).

Kubricks / Re: Power of the Kubricks!
« on: August 20, 2004, 10:24 AM »
I kept telling myself "stay away from the Kubrick thread, don't even go read it or look at it, or you'll be tempted again".  Sure enough, I couldn't stay away.  I still haven't picked any of these up yet, but it sure is awfully tempting.  I couldn't ever afford to get into the chases, carded figures, etc. right now, but maybe some of the basics.  And now Jeff had to jump on board as well, and I'm getting in a bandwagony mood now.  I've thought about starting off just getting a Han, to have my favorite character and see these in person, and then go from there.  Anyone around here have an extra they want to get rid of, or recommendations on a good price to pay for one?  From what I have seen on ebay and online stores, the Han figure seems to be pretty reasonable price wise.  Should have stayed away...should have stayed away.....

JD Sports Forum! / Re: Summer Olympics **beware of SPOILERS**
« on: August 20, 2004, 10:19 AM »
Talking with some friends this week about this, it is amazing how "into" these different sports we can get during the Olympics.  Some of these sports (gymnastics, diving, etc.) we would never watch normally, but find ourselves watching every night this week.  We've especially been enjoying watching swimming, gymnastics, sand volleyball, ping pong, and of course basketball.  Here's hoping that Team USA can turn things around and play well.  The second half vs. Australia looked a little better.  Track and Field starts this weekend I think, that's always entertaining too.  I don't know if it is the country pride, or the fact that it is every four years, or that we just get to see sports that aren't normally televised...but so much of it seems so neat to watch during the Games.  Plus, for the most part from what we have seen, there has been a nice comraderie between countries as well...gracious winners/losers for the most part, which is nice to see too.

Thanks for the pics, looks pretty cool.  I agree with you guys though, the original pictured one looks better...the one you actually receive just looks kind of....plain.  Still neat, from a nostalgic standpoint, and a cool item to have in your collection.

It seems the Fantastic Four movie figs have since been removed from EE's site.  At least, I don't see them there anymore...hmmm.

An observation I have had lately with my Marvel figures is that many of them seem to have loosening joints over time.  Have any of you had that problem?  I'm not really one that poses and re-poses my figures all that often, particularly not Toy Biz ones since I'm worried about loosening joints, but lately (within the past two weeks or so), I have start to have quite a few of my Marvel figures starting to fall over because of loose joints (particularly ankle joints).  I've seen it happen with Magneto, ML Series 3 Wolverine, Carnage, and a movie Spidey.  I'm not saying that I don't like the figures, but the falling when just having them in a "standing up" pose does get kind of annoying.  I haven't noticed this happening nearly as much with my LOTR figures though.  Just curious if anyone else has had this problem?
