Saga '02-'04 / Saga Line: The End
« on: July 6, 2004, 03:07 PM »
Although some of us may not have all of the figures from this line that we want, and are still searching (General Lando, where are you? :P)...with the last waves of Saga making their way through stores, and some OTC being found at various parts of the country now....we can begin to start to talk about the Saga line as a whole.  Did you find everything you wanted (or are you still looking)?  How would you grade the line overall?  What were the strong or weak points?  Finally, what are your favorite figures, ships, beasts, etc. from the line (1, 5, 10, however many you'd like to list)?

Checked out TRU this past weekend (picked up the OTC Darth Vader TIE, they also had the X-Wing/TIE).  They have re-stocked the pegs full with Geonosian Warriors, Dexters, etc.  Why?  Not a good sign as far as finding new (OTC) stuff there in the next couple of months I'm guessing.

Kind of lost in the shuffle with all the big news lately, but Spree did exercise his option with the Wolves, keeping him here for next season.  Sounds like he wants to finish his career in Minny as well....LINKY

Just read over at ESPN that Kobe is having his "suitors" visit him at home...Nuggets yesterday, Clippers later this week most likely.  Also, the Jazz have made Mehmet Okur an offer rumored to be around 48M, time to see if the Pistons will counter (likely not if going after Sheed).  Also, in some minor signings, Foyle is re-upped with Golden State, as well as Camby with the Nuggs.

I have also read that Minnesota is possibly rumored to be involved in a deal for Ray Allen.  Who knows if it will happen, and if so, which players would be included...but I have always been a fan of Allen, be nice to see him a T-Wolf (I believe he was drafted there originally, before being traded to Milwaukee?).  I'd hate to see the team shook up too much, but he's a heck of a shooter and player.

Kubricks / Re: Kubricks and Minimates

That's a great point, there are a lot of Avengers that could be explored in this line.  Its true, most lines seem to be a little too X-heavy, and hopefully that is something they can get away from.  Marvel seems to have such a great "universe" of characters to explore, and hopefully they will be able to get to many more of them.  I do understand the need to have some of the "main" ones out there from time to time...Spidey in particular, which I don't mind too terribly as long as they don't get ridiculous....but I don't need a hundred different Logans/Wolvies either.

Thanks Scott, I really appreciate it.  Those boards over there really help out, and MisterPL is the Minimates master...great list.  Thanks again.

That stinks Scott, hopefully you can get something worked out.  I hope that these continue to be available online via Amazon, Tower Records, etc., because with these two sets on the way, I'd really like to continue to collect these...at least as much as possible...and the TRU nearest us doesn't seem to carry them (at least I can't find them).

A quick question...what has all been released now, is it just up to Series 4 and 5, waiting on 6, 7, etc.?  Just curious what was all out now, and how much I need to catch up on.  I don't think I'll go all "completist" on this line, since I'm a bit behind and exclusives are tough, but it is awfully tempting.  There's just so wee....don't take up much room at all :P.

Picked up the Spider-Man 2 game for Gamecube, so I played that for the first time yesterday.  I really like it, and seems like a lot of fun (at least to me).  I'm definitely not a video game expert, but it is a pretty enjoyable game IMO, and seems to be well done.  Just got done fighting "ultimate" Rhino, and catching up to the Black Cat, now on to the next :).  Nice to see a few other villains make appearances in the game.

I'm not sure if anyone is interested, but Amazon.com has a few Marvel Minimates sets up for sale now, with free shipping.  They have:

Capt. America/Absorbing Man/Maskless Spidey/Doc Ock

Carnage/Spider-Man/Thing/Doctor Doom

Grab Line Spider-Man/BD Daredevil/Civilian Logan/Juggernaut

Most of you probably already have these, but I ordered a couple of sets...and figured with free shipping it might not be too bad of a deal.  Here's the LINKY

Nice to hear these are starting to show up.  I checked Wal-Mart this weekend, but there was nothing but Hoth Hans, Throne Room Lukes and Secret Ceremony Anakins.  We did get in the OTC Sabers, Vader's TIE, as well as the X-Wing and TIE Fighters at TRU.  I picked up the Vader's TIE, since I never had that vehicle.  Now, bring on the figures...can't wait for that Dagobah wave.

Thanks for the b-day wishes, fellas, I really appreciate it.  I had a pretty good day...hadn't used any vacation time this year, so my wife and I both took it off and caught a matinee of Spidey 2 (awesome).  Also, she surprised me by giving me the 18" Amazing Spider-Man action figure as a gift.  I probably never would have bought it for myself, and even though it is big, it is pretty cool.  Also got some clothes, and a "wavebird" controller for the Gamecube.  And...got a $25 gift card to TRU from her sister, so can't complain about that either :).  Thanks again so much!

This is one that I'll be picking up too if I can find it.  I only actually have the Episode 2 Slave I, and would really like a classic, OT version.  Plus, like you guys said, it really looks spiffy in that packaging too.  A nicely done repaint/repack the way it looks.

The wife and I took the day off today, and went to the 1 p.m. showing this afternoon.  Although I might be biased being a big Spidey fan, I thought the movie was really great.  I enjoyed the first one, but thought this one was even better.  I really don't think you'll be disappointed....I really liked it at least.  Alfred Molina is another great casting choice in this franchise, I think they have done a pretty good job with that so far.  Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst are both great as well.  Before the first one came out, I wasn't sure about Tobey Maguire, but I don't know if I could imagine anyone else in that role now.  He is quite an actor, and really captures Peter Parker/Spidey well.

Not really "offseason" news, but I see that Sports Illustrated has named Kevin Garnett their player of the year...check out the article HERE

Kind of related to this topic, I was wondering....how often do you go on toy runs?  Do you visit one store in particular more often, do you make daily runs, do you go weekly, or any other schedule?  I used to manage to go maybe once a week, on a Saturday, when we lived in a smaller town.  I had decent luck, but I'm sure that is why I missed a lot of stuff as well at some times.  Now we live in a city, with a Target, TRU, and Wal-Mart within at least 10 minutes of us (less for TRU and Wal-Mart).  I don't really know the "schedule" for when new stuff is put out (particularly for Star Wars, and also Marvel Legends/Spidey), so right now I have pretty much continued to go on the weekends, although I've made a few weekday stops as well now.  How often do you stop and shop...or do you know the stores' schedule for putting new stuff out?
