Title: CW Corporate Alliance Tank Droid
Post by: Jesse James on May 10, 2009, 08:15 PM
Rebelscum's got a picture of the upcoming "Snail" Droid Tank, and the giant Octuparra droid.  The Octuparra droid is compared with a battery, and it's a massive looking toy.  It's all leg of course, but still it looks pretty damn big for a $25 vehicle.

The Snail Droid SHOULD be to-scale.  It's not a big vehicle by the stills in ROTS I've looked at, but it is tough to tell if the toy is very large or not.  Looks to have a single mobile tread too.  That's pretty neat if it's the case and not roller wheels underneath with a static tread.  It's tough to tell by the photos though, just how large it is, or how mobile that tread may be.

I'm pretty excited about the snail droid.

Very nice!!!!  Glad to see a packaged image at long last.

Looking forward to picking this up.  Hoping that some of my local Targets stay at $19.99.  I wonder who its casemate is going to be since WM got the Octo-Droid, unless they forgot to slap a blue sticker on the package.

The Tank Droid wasn't the only boxed image (we got it in also) revealed.  So was the Y-Wing.

I like that the Tank Droid has a working tread, but I'm still curious on just how big this will be next to figures.  The CTD's weren't huge, so it may be to-scale.  Droids are seen clearly on them riding, but I'm wanting to see the toy with droids next to it first, or on it.

I'm in for two of these!

IIRC, there is a battle droid piloting inside of the Tank Droid.

By this account, it seems it's close to scale.

I'm happy to see this, something new that was actually in a movie.

Something nobody's saying, but I find fascinating, is it has working treads (or, well, a working tread).  That's a first for a SW vehicle, taking a page from the 1:18 military world for once.

I'm pleased they did that, rather than the solid plastic treads with hidden wheels to roll on the floor.  I thought the prototype posted a while back had the tread as a functioning piece of the toy.  My only beef right now is maybe the scale of it.  It's not that big, so I'll be disappointed if it's significantly off.

Have there been other Star Wars toys that could have had treads, working or fake? I think this might be the first vehicle with treads for the line. If I'm wrong, please correct me. I'd love to be enlightened on this one.

The Sandcrawlers (vintage and modern versions) had treads and well as the MLC-3 mini rig to name a couple. I suppose you could count the Vintage MLC-3 laser turret, the vintage Hoth Playset laser turret and the POTF2 deluxe turret as those had molded treads too.

All the above...  Plus most GIJ toys as well, have had non-functioning treads.  It's generally a simpler/less expensive method of making the toy.  So it's a nice surprise to see that avoided on this item.

I'd add the little Hoth droid from the accessory packs at Target too.

Small, but working treads have been done on smaller toys, and that would've rocked with working ones.  I enjoyed those little droids.

Jayson, not sure if you're saying the sandcrawler had treads...they wer sculpted, with little wheels sticking out underneath!

Well, I suppose the CA Tank was the first modern opportunity for Hasbro to do a working tread system. I'm excited about that detail either way. An updated Sandcrawler would be cool though now that it has been mentioned.

I'd love me a hefty sized Sandcrawler with working treads, but it's not "aggressive" enough for Hasbro so I guess that'll never happen.

New pic from SDCC. The tank looks a bit funky to me, but it looks to be pretty decent sized. Some Battle Droids would look killer on the side platforms.

I've always thought that bug-eyed thing looked silly, but looks pretty accurate.  At least it's something new instead of a repaint.

I'm thinking it's decently sized as well.  Nice sculpting, very sharp.  The Seps "numbers" are everything that make them formidable, so I like seeing Hasbro making the effort to get to their other bigger hardware.  Especially with the Clones having the AT-TE and now a light tank as well.

I scored the Tank Droid (http://www.yakface.com/2009/july/tankdroid.html) at my local Target this morning. The side swing open to carry a droid pilot of your choosing.

Nice find Jay!  Is this the first time where it's only one new vehicle in a new assortment?

Too bad Hasbro didn't put foot pegs on the running boards...so battle droids could ride on it, like in the movies.  I swear, sometimes I think that Hasbro forgets that people actaully want to play with these things...

Yeah, that's my only complaint so far for the vehicle.

My son likes anything that is a tank it seems.  Undoubtedly it will enter the home at somepoint whether it's for his birthday or whatever.  I actually like this thing.  A bit funky looking but fun I think.  I am glad the tread actually moves.

This does look kind of cool, and I like that it has "real" treads.

I opened this up the other night and I have to say that I like this better than I thought I would. Hasbro did a bang up job on this one. I highly recommended picking this up, it actually has two separate canopys to seat figures, they only show one of them on the box.

Actually the back of the box (http://www.yakface.com/TGuide2004/ActionFigures/TCW/vehicles/tank_droid/cb.html) has a call out saying "gunner door opens!"  ;)

I got this last week. I love the toy, but unfortunately one of the missiles was missing. I'm a stickler for complete toys, so I plan on sending it back to Hasbro for another one. (More likely Darth Vader's TIE Fighter, but whatever.) It is a great toy and pretty hefty at that. I'm looking forward to getting another complete one down the road.

I was referring to the front canopy that opens as well. That door is located on the left canon. There is no mention of it on the box, they only mention the gunner one. Sorry if I was not clear.

You should call customer service I am sure they would send you a replacement. I have always had good experiences with them.

I emailed them and was told that the part was unavailable. They offered to send a mailing label to me so I could have the whole item replaced. I have faith in Hasbro but I don't expect to get the same toy in return. However, it's okay with me as I can return whatever I receive to Target, and just pick up another Tank Droid when I see it. I do agree that the Hasbro folks are very kind and helpful people.

I would advise against sending it back to Hasbro at all costs.  For whatever reason, email correspondence is pretty much guaranteed to come back with the "We will send you a shipping label" response, while calling them via telephone is much more likely to result in them just sending you the part.  I've been using the same phone number since the POTF2 days when I had a problem (unfortunately, my address book with that number is at work right now), and I've never had any issues with them using the mailing label thing there.

In 2006, I got a Vader TIE that didn't include the 1-label sticker sheet.  I went the email route and got the "Mail it Back" label response.  I mailed it back, and two months later, I got a ROTS Obi-Wan JSF (in ROTS packaging, naturally).  Luckily I was able to simply return *that* to Target and exchange it for another DV TIE, but the moral of the story is, don't accept the return label thing.  It's easier to just take it back to Target, say it was incomplete, and exchange it for the same item, even if you have to wait on another shipment.

I keep wondering how much longer these generic DPCI numbers at Target will last.  Probably in their favor to keep, but surely they have to know what some folks do with returns/exchanges.  I'm not knocking you DP - I'm certainly a guilty one.   :)

I found this on Saturday and I was really pleased with the vehicle when I opened it up.

The fact that they included seats for two Battle Droids was really cool. I had no idea they were going to putting that feature into this vehicle.

Definitely a great addition to your Seperatist forces.

I have only seen 1 of these in the Richmond VA area, bought it immediately, but the box was damaged so now I am really jonesing to exchange it for a pristine version. (Yes, I am a non-opener)

They are really scarce for some reason...I smell a shortpack.

Nah, they're not even really popping up much on eBay yet, wait until November you'll be seeing them all over the shelves.

Plus it's a new mold, look for it to be issued many times for years to come.

Entertainment Earth (http://www.entertainmentearth.com/hitlist.asp?searchfield=corporate+alliance+tank&eeshop=)

Check it out, just in September and October alone, it's packed in 3 different waves of vehicles.

I actually saw this for the first time tonight and picked one up.  I think it's one of the better made toys in this line...  I think it's a hair small, but I'm going ot keep the one I have.  I think it falls into my acceptable range.  It's very close, actually.  It may be more on than not.

I'm hoping to pick up a second one as well. It's a neat design. Hasbro's inclusion of a cockpit for a droid driver was a nice touch.

I've had mine for over a month.  It is a very well done piece with lots of detail, an accurate sculpt, and realistic paint-work.  The "cockpits" are a nice feature, but I really like the rolling tank tread.  This vehicle is an example of what Hasbro designers can do when they put their minds to something... wish they had done more of that with the Y-Wing.

Yeah, I'm surprised by the overall great designs of e Seperatist droid vehicles.

Started with a great hailfire droid, then the Homing Spider droid, then the Octuptarra (large one-although the figure sized one is good too, imo), now this tank snail) droid.

All really great designs and play features.

Hasbro has done a fairly good job at the Republic ships too. AT-TE was awesome, I dig the TX-130 tank (though I still wish the outriggers would slightly pivot). Though I do think they dropped the ball on the Turbo Tank a little.

I think the only two major complaints from the majority of us would be hella increased price and lack of "dirty" or "lived in" deco.
