Toy Reviews / R2-D2 - Jabba's Sail Barge
« on: December 30, 2003, 11:03 AM »
Picked this figure up at Wal-Mart.

Accessories = Stand, Drink Tray, Drink Dispenser Arm.

Detail / Sculpt = Nice little R2 with removable Drink Dispenser items so he can be a normal R2-D2.

Articulation = It is R2 with the middle leg, turning head, feet, ect.

Over All = A nicely done R2-D2. I give this figure a A+

Saga '02-'04 / Target = Marked Down Prices
« on: December 24, 2003, 09:35 AM »
I just got back from four different Target stores this morning here in Indy.
They have marked down the Star Wars toys. *Not all have the same items marked down but I believe in time they all will.

Action Figures = $3.35 each including the Ani-Clone Wars

Multipacks = $6.35 each

Ultra Deluxe Figures = $7.35 each

Screen Scenes = $9.35 each

Vehicles *Not including Anakin's Starfighter = $9.35 each
Anakin's Starfighter is $21.97

Generic Lightsaber = $3.35 each

Electronic Lightsabers = $9.35 each

When I went out today I was hoping to find the Luke Skywalker, R2-D2, and R4 figs since they are poping up at Target Stores. My search was a failure. I hope after the Holiday they will be out on the pegs with the mark down prices.

Keep your eyes open at Target for these great prices on Star Wars toys.
Happy Hunting!

Toy Reviews / 12" Garindan
« on: December 16, 2003, 08:15 PM »
They other day I was lucky to score the new 12" Garindan doll.

Face Sculpt = A+
I really like this character. Under the cape and hood the head sculpt is wrapped in what looks like a baggy leather pullover fetish mask with ties at the top and the long snoot sewed in. On top of that is the eye protection. Lots of detail went into this thing.
*The head is all sculpted.

Outfit = A
The outfit is all black. A nice coat / shirt type top and pants with the common black boots. Sculpted gloved hands and he also has the common Imperial Officer Belt. Then on top of it all is the hooded cape.

Accessories = B
All that he comes with is the Gernade looking Imperial Comlink.

Overall Grade = A+
I have to say that this is one of the very best of the 12" dolls that have been made in the past few years. I really like how the details in this type of doll is becoming top priority.
Out of the three in this wave: Garindan, Obi-Wan, and Jawa 2-pack Garindan is worth picking up.
I have not seen the Jawa 2-pack yet. The Obi-Wan is Obi-Wan maybe with a new head sculpt. I am not sure though. I did not have a previous Obi-Wan to look at when I was at the store.

Anyways, I think people will be happy with this doll.
I will probably pick up the Jawa 2-pack when I see it but not Obi-Wan.

Toy Reviews / Ultra C-3P0 and Escape Pod
« on: December 13, 2003, 07:52 AM »
I picked up the three new Ultra figurea at Wal-Mart. Since there is already a review started for the Wampa and Reeiken I thought I would start the review for C-3P0.

Appearance -
The pod has a nice sculpt.
8/10
C-3P0 is more of a dirty bronze color than gold. Which makes him look like he haas been in the desert for a long time. Luke needs to clean him up. I really like the sculpt of this figure.
9/10

Articluation -
The escape pod has an opening hatch on the top to load in C-3P0 and R2-D2 if you want to.
C-3P0 at first you think his joints look very loose, they are meant to be that way. A nice addition to this C-3P0 is that his limbs are removable. There is only a straight peg holding the limbs into the torso. The head has a neat surprise. When you take off his head the post that hold his head on has sculpted wires. I think that was a neat surprise made by Hasbro.
10/10

Pose-ability -
There's quite a bit you can do here, I'm very pleased. C-3P0 can be used in many different dioramas.
10/10

Accessory -
An espace pod. Like before it has an opening top hatch. Not much to do with the escape pod but have C-3P0 and R2-D2 crash land on Tatooine or have the Sandtroopers look over the crash site.
7/10

Overall -
Worth the $10 at Wal-Mart or $11 at TRU. Go out and get this set. Many will think the Wampa figure is the best out of the Ultra figs like I did until I really got to look and analize this set. After you get to play with this thing for yourself I think most people will really like the C-3P0.
10/10

Saga '02-'04 / Ayy Vida production error, already fixed.
« on: November 10, 2003, 05:00 PM »
I have noticed with the new Ayy Vida figure that the Left leg has a production error. The first Ayy Vida that I bought has a Right Thigh on her left leg. I have seen this production error four different times now at different Target stores.

Today I was out and I saw the figure again at Target. I noticed that the leg was already corrected.

Here is an image of the two side by side (carded) so you can see the difference.

As you can see, the production error has been fixed.

Variation Hunter, happy hunting.

Saga '02-'04 / Outlander Club Wave (Skethctrooper, Bail, Vida etc)
« on: November 6, 2003, 11:40 AM »
The Bail Organa Wave of figures is hitting the pegs here in Indy.

The cases have changed they no longer have the big bold text on the side saying what is inside. Now the cases have a pink stripe on the top that says toys and a balck stripe on the bottom that says boys. In the middle of the box it has the numbers and junk with small lettering that says SW03W#R# or something like that. So I kindly asked the stockers if they could open the box for me and they did.
In the box I scored the new bail wave!!

Here is what the case breakdown is:
X2  Imperial Dignitary (Janus Greejatus)
X2  Padme Amidala (Lar's Homestead)
X2  Bail Organa (Alderaan Senator)
X2  McQuarrie Concept Stormtrooper - Fan's Choice #4
X1  Elan Sleazebaggano
X1  Obi-Wan Kenobi (Nightclub)
X1  Ayy Vida *Has production error* The Left leg has two right thighs
X1  Ashl & Jempa Padawans

Thanks to MacNZsDad for the update in the Indianapolis Area thread that these were at Target here in Indy. I did not know that these were out so soon. I thought they were scheduled for December.

Toy Reviews / Holidat Edition Yoda
« on: October 14, 2003, 08:20 PM »
Well today I got my Holiday Edition Yoda thanks to my friend Jeremy. He picked up a few and had some to go around. :)

Anyways, here is my review of this little bugger.

Hasbro and Lucasfilm Ltd. are delighted to present the second in a series of Star Wars Holiday Edition commemorative sets. Inspired by the artwork of renowned artist Ralph McQuarrie, this specially designed set captures the imaginative vision of McQuarrie's art in collectible 3"3/4" action figure scale. Our gift to you, this piece is a distinctive addition to any Star Wars collection. May the Force be with you, and happy holidays.

Package: This package is kind of like the C-3P0 / R2-D2 Holiday set from last year. The card inside is very easy to steal out of the package if one dared. It is just taped on the inside of the back part of the package. You have to know that the back part is just folded over cardboard with tape on the sides to hold it closed. So if you cut the tape the card slides right on out. That is BAD design.

To open up this toy is a bear! There is so much little pieces of tape you have to cut to be able to open up this toy. I guess the more tape the merrier to keep little unwanted hands from opening up the toy itself. So on that part, it is GOOD design.

The Jedi Master Points = 30 Points.

The Card: The card is once again a copy of teh drawing by Ralph McQ. I have not taken it out of the plastic bag so I am not sure what it says on the inside.

The Toy itself: Yoda is in his Santa outfit. He has three points of articulation: X2 arms and head. His Gimmer Stick is seperate but held on with a rubberband. His sack of toys is also loose. Yoda can hold it with his right hand while it hangs over his shoulder. Yoda in all is very well done.

The base is like lasts years set. It is black on on the front it says "Holiday Editon" The top is covered with snow and has an attached playball and block resting in the snow.

When Yoda is placed on the base it looks nice.

Overall I will have to give this toy the rating of an A.

I hope all who want one for their collection gets one before the Holidays. It is a nice addition to your Holiday decor.

Saga '02-'04 / The Emperor
« on: October 13, 2003, 12:10 PM »
Today I picked up the New "The Emperor" -not Darth Sidious as some listings claim.

Anyways, as I opened him up I thought this figure would be really cool to use for customizing since he has a bald head. NOPE! The head is only half a head!?! Only the front part of the head is there. The head is like a mask, there is no back side to the head.

Anyways just thought that I would share that info with you all.

In case if you were wondering what the case breakdown is for the Emperor it is as follows:
X2 Padme (Wedding)
X2 Yoda and Chian
X2 Aayla
X2 Padwan 2-pack
X1 Wat Tambor
X1 Coleman Trebor
X1WA-7 Waitress Droid
X1 The Emperor

Toy Reviews / Hailfire Droid
« on: September 15, 2003, 12:53 PM »
MSRP: $19.99 where I purchased it at Target.

Description on Box: A self-aware mobile missile-platform used exclusively by the InterGalactic Banking Clan, hailfire droids deliver surface-to-surface and surface-to-air strikes with their stacked banks of rocket warheads. Hailfires roll along on oversized hoop-like wheels. In between the bracketing axle arms is a small, central body equiped with a single photoreceptor. When the InterGalactic Banking Clan pledged its forces to the Confederacy of Independent Systems (a non-exclusive arranged, of course), its hailfire droids were added to the immense Separatist battle droid army.

Features: Rapid-fire launchers! Each launcher fires 8 missiles. The other 8 missiles are just placed in the missile pods for holding.
Over-sized wheels that really roll.
Positionalbe dual blaster cannon.

Play Value: Well, this toy is a big droid with 16 firing missiles. It is a really lame toy for play value. You can roll it around and shoot some missiles. I think kids will like it since it shoots missiles. Other than that it is a display piece.

Overall Rating: Like I said, this toy is a display piece. It snaps together very easily and is a sturdy toy. Not a really exciting toy in my opinion. So I will have to give this toy the rating of a C.
Hasbro hit this toy on the head from what we saw it do in the movie. But it is a rather boring toy. I feel that Hasbro could of made a different toy in the Star Wars Universe instead of this toy. But in all fairness to Hasbro, they made this toy now, since E2 is still fresh in the kids and collectors minds.

It looks neat, but it is boring.

Toy Reviews / Geonosian Starfighter
« on: September 15, 2003, 12:40 PM »
MSRP: $19.99 at Target where I purchased this toy.

Description on box: A lean, needle-nosed fighter-craft with a distinct alien heritage, the starfighters of the Geonosians are small, compact vessels of great speed and superior agility. A single Geonosian Pilot sits within the cramped cockpit and peers out of a bubble canopy that allows a 360' field of vision. Cradled within the forward needles of the ship is a turrent-mounted laser cannon. During the Clone Wars, the fighters were modified to increase their firepower, be adding two proton torpedoes in the side launchers.

Features: Exclusive Geonosian Pilot with Life Support Mask.
Two-stage spring-open launchers fire missiles.
Opening canopy with cockpit that holds the Geonosina Pilot very well.
Central Cannon fires missile

Quality: This ship in my opinion is very well made. It is made out of sturdy plastic except for the front points of the ship which are made out of heavy rubber.  Due to safety reasons!!
The buttons for the features work well.
The Pilot fits in the cockpit very well and the hose on his mask attached to the cockpit controls.

Play Value: Three firing missiles and opening launcers. A simple toy but for kids lots of fun. It shoots!!

For those who like to open a ship for display this is a good one to pick up since it comes with the figure.

Overall Rating: Though I hate the design of this ship (not Star Warsy to me) it is a welcomed addition to my ever growing Star Wars Collection (for the figure). But for what this ship is worth I will have to give this toy the rating of an A. Hasbro did really well on this toy.

Toy Reviews / A-Wing from Target
« on: August 21, 2003, 02:22 PM »
Well, yesterday I received my A-Wing that I order from Target.

Lets start with that yes this is the same mold as the Vintage and POTF2 A-Wing just repainted Green.

With that said lets start my review.

Paint Scheme is really neat. I like the Green color of the A-Wing, just like the Micro Machines Action Fleet Ship from a few years ago.

Pilot: Just a repack & repainted of one of the Pilots from the Rebel Piltos pack. Which is fine with me since once he is in the fighter you really do not see him that much.
His helmet has a smoked grey visor which is a nice touch.

The ship itself again is the same as the past releases of the ship. Landing Gear, Rotating Turrents, Opening Canopy, and battery compartment from days long past of the Vintage Line.

The packaging for those who collect packaged items, the package is a nice rebel hangar scene with the M-Falcon and Red A-Wing departing. The figure is packed next to a computer station with his helmet on top. It is a nice window display package.

So over all I really like this ship.
I have it displayed in one of my display units with the Repainted Jedi Starfighter.

So over all I would have to give this ship a A+!
