Kubricks / Re: Deluxe Series 2 - Hoth

Sorry, my Kube chases come with me wherever I go.  I picked up a European Man-Bag (it's not a purse) to carry them around in, with a built in GPS locator and blue dye explosive in case I'm ever robbed.  Also thinking about getting a bodyguard and some video surveillance set up... ;)

Got tired of carrying them around town in your Chewbacca bandolier strap?  ;)

No charge, just whatever it costs to ship it. I'm going to the post office soon anyway so it's no problem. I can send it and then let you know what the shipping came out to.

Correction: 6.75 inches tall (13 inches tall counting the ground if its not folded.)

This is just great Mike  ;D - what are the dimensions?

Thank you sir.  :)  It's 20.5 inches by 13.5 inches. Bout the same width as the DX2 and DX3 ones and almost as tall, if you don't count the die cut elements the real ones have.

@ Mike , it looks fantastic. You've inspired me to continue with my diorama

Sweet! An illustrated one? You've definitely made some kick ass kubrick scaled props already, so I look forward to seeing what you come up with. I used your Hoth light board thing as a reference for mine. :)

So far I've got 1 confirmed order with IAmSith. No rush to let me know for anyone else that wants one, but I'll be heading to the print shop tomorrow, so if you want in on this first printing let me know soon. I'm gonna start a thread in Classifieds for this so as not to clutter up this one. If you're in the U.S. and send payment via paypal as a gift I can do $40/shipped. Thanks.  :)

So I hit the art store for supplies and mounted my diorama print today--I'm actually really excited with how it turned out. The edges are crisp and it looks like it was printed directly on the board. The satin finish of the paper is a pretty good match for the real ones. The only major differences (production wise) are that the cardboard I used is just slightly thicker than Medicom's, and also the back of the diorama has watermark logos and there are scoring marks from the lines where it folds. They are slightly ragged but invisible from the front where it is just a clean fold.  Also the side flaps don't have the locking die-cut pieces, they're just flat.

To Iamsith, Jman and BrentS, and/or anyone else who'd like one, I'm thinking $40 would cover my print costs, supplies, labor etc. If you can't swing $40 let me know and we can probably work something out. I'll number them on the back to give them an artsy air.  ;D

So for $20 the print shop made me a color print that looks great.  Was worried about the colors and brightness changing but it looks exactly like it does on my monitor, so that's a relief.  Unfortunately they couldn't mat it for me--they only mount prints on ultra-thick science fair diorama-type foam board. So over the weekend I'll try to find the right sized board and mount this myself, see how it turns out and let you guys know what I could get one to you for.

Thanks everyone!  :D

Great job Mike!  Are you taking orders?  I'd like one please!

Sure! Let me see what the printers are going to charge me and how it turns out and then I'll get back to you. Hopefully they won't give me any flak about the Star Wars/Kubrick logos. The size of this is basically the same as the DX3 backdrop if you sliced off the Ronto's head on top.  My home printer can print at that size but the color inks it takes get pricey--I'll weigh that against what the print shop charges.

Thanks guys!  I was really pushing to try and ape the Medicom style, which is deceptively simple and  really clean, elegant, Japanese-feeling. So in my eyes I fell a bit short of that mark, but I'm still happy with how it turned out, and it was a good learning experience. And now I'll have some more terrain to display my Hoth kubbies in front of.  :)

Got my hands on an unreleased prototype diorama from the DX2 days--the Hoth echo command center!

Haha, I jest of course. As you can probably tell from the sub-par artistry, I painted it myself. I had started awhile back and then put it on hold for awhile, but recently I got inspired to finally finish it. The pic is just a mock up of how it'll fold out once it's printed. Gonna head down to the print shop tomorrow and get it printed out and mounted. Here's a couple of close-ups:
