Newbies / Re: Hello
« on: April 4, 2006, 05:02 AM »
It's just a long story...

The forums have degraded over there enough, and most of us were part of those forums when they  weren't actually even a part of that otheR Site (Scum's forums were pretty much taken from another site during a merger with RS that went south) and they were ok to go to, that we raised questions and complaints...  That didn't sit well with the staff who ran the site...  Some of us were more vocal than others, but we all pretty much agreed, and I honestly don't know TOO many people at RS anymore that are still from the really "old school" crowd even who hang out there much.

Anyway though, things got worse, then one day we all got Spam in our email accounts we used to sign up there, and when complaints were raised about that in the forums we were all met with some pretty crass and rude remarks from RS's site staff...  They took the opportunity to start weeding out people being vocal, namely some of our staff here...  They also went nuts too and started weeding us all out one-by-one when they learned we worked here.  Some people who don't even work here but who are good fans of our forums and site like CHEWIE got sucked into it and banned.  We didn't DO anything per se, we just had affiliation with this site and got sucked into a big mass banning of people...  it was comical in its own way.

Some of us got reinstated because it was a mistake and members of their staff who realized that must've made the case to reinstate us...  For instance I don't even think I complained about the SPAM to them publicly, it just annoyed me, but I still got sucked into the bannings...  Subsequently I got reinstated then, though the staff member who banned me didn't have the cajones to reinstate me or notify me...  I was reinstated/notified by Tattoo Shane who I guess was left to clean up the mess the others created.

From what I've been told of it, there was some witch-hunting going on by one of the moderators and one of the staff.

Anyway, that's the short of it basically...  :)  No huge deal, we're happy here and this community is one of the more thriving, lively, and a quite friendly community with rules geared towards adults and active staff in the forums keeping the peace as best we can...  We're proud of that, and wel're glad you came over to check things out BabyJawa, and hope you have a good time around the forums here.

(Disclaimer: Don't turn this into an anti-Rebelscum thread guys, please.  I just wanted to explain to BabyJawa what the story was and everything...  No need for it to become a platform to rant about other forums...  Thanks for respecting that)

The Wookiee Arcade / Re: Star Wars: Empire At War
« on: April 4, 2006, 04:24 AM »
I'm like that too...  For Force Commander in the Imperial levels I preferred going in strong rather than pissing with little forces.  The unit cap screwed that sometimes, but I tended to focus on a less heavily fortified command center in terms of fixed items, and instead used mobile weaponry...

That would leave me hefty stacks of walkers broken into multiple armored columns I could rove the field with and bring hell to the Rebels wherever they were.  Opening multiple fronts and stuff.  The only fixed emplacements I insisted on having were the necessities like a landing platform w/TIE Fighters to act as scouts.  The Fighters practically defended the base themselves and mauled infantry and other aircraft...  They were just great to scout up to a point, the fringe of a dangerous area, then you marched your now massive armored column up and beat the piss out of whatever was there...  :)

I love the actual military aspect of these games...  The control you have.  With that broadened for EAW, I'm even that much more bummed I can't get into it right now.

The Original Trilogy / Re: Luke's Jedi Trials
« on: April 4, 2006, 04:18 AM »
That is interesting to thnk about actually...  Luke's ascention to being an actual Jedi required his confrontation with Vader...  or so Yoda said.  That tied in fairly nicely with the cartoon's outlining of things and also with what we see in the prequals too.  You don't see much discussion about that really when the criticism of Luke "being a Jedi" or not comes up like it sometimes does.

I think he simply lacked experience...  Still though he somehow came off much wiser in ROTJ than we'd seen him up till then...  His evolution in character is probably the sharpest of the saga, which I think is why a lot of people don't "like" the Jedi label being slapped on him...  He does show a lot of Jedi qualities though in ROTJ that you'd expect of a Qui-Gon or even Yoda...  Like giving every chance to peace for Jabba and his cronies instead of just going in and hacking away like he would have at one point in his life.

Yeah that's like saying you were locked up vomiting and broke as a joke.

Pffft...  Tough it out like the rest of us.  :-*

The Empire can't go overboard.

You probably did it more realistic to the films than anyone. :)

Other Collectibles / Re: Master Replicas Force FX Lightsabers
« on: April 4, 2006, 01:50 AM »
I have a 3rd FX Saber, Mace's, near my grasp...  Can't wait for that.

I need:

-Vader's
-Obi-Wan (E3) when they make it
-Maul's (Double Bladed)

and then I'll call this end of collecting "done" I think...  Though never say "never" as they say.  I mean, god knows I'd probably buy Palpy's if they made it, or Yoda's...   ::)

Oh god it's always something.

Saga Collection '06 / Re: Any TSC Pegwarmers?
« on: April 4, 2006, 01:44 AM »
For my area, it's now a LOT of Hoth Wave, and Bib...  Most of the rest of the Carkoon Wave's moved on through by my estimations.  Could be the simple lack of anything on the pegs driving the sales of these duller figures though.

Saga Collection '06 / Re: Best/Worst of the TSC line so far
« on: April 4, 2006, 01:43 AM »
Best...  Sun Fac, AT-AT Driver, Utapau Clone

Worst...  Articulation, Price, Availability

Let's face it, this year's offerings would rival 2005 in quality if the figures were better articulated, the price were comparable to 2005 instead of $1 or $2 more, and you could FIND STUFF.

Articulation's probably my biggest complaint this year though...  1983's level of articulation on a figure's legs in 2006 is just really insulting as a consumer.  The Scorch figure is a great case-in point.  He's pretty perfect to me except those damn legs.  Browse scorch customs in the customizing area and you see, I've got some people backing that opinion for certain.

Carkoon Han is a mediocre figure...  Give him knee joints though, and you have a figure ready for the Battle at the Pit of Carkoon, one of the best action sequences of the classic trilogy...  Knee joints are warranted.

My opinion extends to Veers and Derlin...  Both I consider as possible army builders, and I think articulation would've made them certainly less dull as toys on the pegs.  My gf's son opened Derlin and straight away complained how he wasn't as much fun as the AT-AT Driver his brother got...  All because they "don't move" the same.

Hasbro's gotta drop the lame already and set the bar a LITTLE higher, and leave it there.  The price increase was tough to choke down alone, tacking on a quality drop as I see it didn't help the situation at all.

« on: April 4, 2006, 01:37 AM »
Actually, SSG hasn't had much of anything to say for a long time, and we've been quite competitive with the other "big" sites in GH and RS for a while...  Sometimes we break news before they do and they get it later, sometimes they break news before we do...  That's neither here nor there.

Sometimes the small sites get a story too and it's good.  DSP2 I expected to not do this...

To be honest, this is lame for a number of reasons, the least of which is that it isn't even really a "joke".  SW.com, the official site, has a real april fool's joke...  Something outrageous and unbelievable that people still scratch their heads over.  DSP2 took a story people have been cryin' on forums about since 2002 and shoved it in their face with a big middle finger if you ask me.

I don't know the reporter that did the joke and I didn't even visit their site about it...  It was "near' that time of year so I just didn't care enough but to read what anyone was saying IN HERE about it.  That was all I'd heard...  Finding out it's a lame attempt at humor doesn't then surprise me, but at the same time I'm disappointed in DSP2 posting something that actually is a little spiteful almost towards the people who want the thing...  And that's not even me.  if it's underscaled I don't want it and if the pack-ins were new I'd have been first on the bitch list.  I'm more disappointed FOR the people who actually did want it.  Just because I don't doesn't mean I begrudge people their happiness...  I just want what I want more and first.  ;D  j/k

Anyway, sorry to those who did have hopes up on any level...  What are ya gonna do though?  Scum's had some lame ass April Fool's Day jokes out there folks, so don't think that this is something ONLY Death Star Plans2 would do to you to dick you over and make you think something that isn't true.

For credibility, DSP2 is no more credible than RS or anyone else, but they basically shot themselves in the foot with this story on gaining the "trust" of people out there who don't know them...  That's where they made their biggest mistake in this gag or whatever it was.

Personally I agreed with Darth Anton's words when I read them...  I kind of figured it was BS and it was, but man that's a fast way to annoy a lot of people.

Well I wouldn't consider 2 Shocktroopers (SA), a Senate Pod, a Yoda, and a Palpatine a "rape" for $20 (if that turns out to be its cost...  I don't trust Target).  For what it is, it's worth it at the assumed price.

It's not an army builder set but I didn't expect one anyway...  I figure if I can get the 2 Shocktroopers, sell the pod(s), and keep the Yoda and Palpatine for some kind of fodder (fodder is fodder, though someone may want them so I can trade/sell them off too perhaps) then it balances out for me...  I'll obviously not be stocking up on this set by any means, but if I can get 2 shocktroopers for a reasonable price and sell the pods off making up some of the price...  I'm pretty happy with that.

Saga Collection '06 / Re: 2006 TRU Clone Wars Gunship
« on: April 4, 2006, 01:12 AM »
With it being available overseas already it's a good likelihood it's not too far off...  Images have surfaced of people having them in-hand though.  May could be right on target.

Thanks speedermike, and let me say that I'd add any of the Jabba ANH:SE Goons too...

The pointy hat guy is definitely one, but my second from that scene is the big guy with the bushy beard.  If he isn't a space pirate I don't know what is.  The dude looks like a surly space blackbeard.  I love those background guys.

I also would love the human Jabba...  I can fit him in scenes easily and he's just so cool.

As far as that goes, cut scenes that is, how about:

-Biggs Academy...  I already listed him but he's boring and if Lando won't sell neither would this figure. :)  I still want a Biggs in Academy duds.

-Camie...  Boring, human, and female...  A triple threat.

-Fixer...  Boring Tatooine schmuck...  Didn't even make the film.  Very boring, but I want one.

Saga Collection '06 / Re: Colored Stormtroopers?
« on: April 4, 2006, 12:50 AM »
I've thought about the possibility too Jim but I honestly hope it neve rhappens.  I like things as they are...  If I were to make changes it would be updating the space battles digitally in all movies, and maybe tweaking Hoth a bit to have a little more action happening.

Beyond that...  I truly hope he's done.  I don't wanna be lured into a colorized Stormtrooper trap.

17729
Jon, I hope you're right...  Of course, around me the only retailer with anything is Target and they JUST put their prices up at almost all (only one is below $6 yet), so I'm not hopeful for my area.

WM would have to get figures first to actually have a price to fluctuate. :)  I'm in awe that almost all of you have WM's selling figures, and Pittsburgh WM's don't have pegs for them...  I'm dead serious.  I don't know what happened.

17730
Depends how many ship...  If that sub-line heroes/villains thing is what is shipped in a deluge to stores, it could easily sit and not move at all...  If it's out like once and that's it though, you never know.  Very strange year this has been so far.

In my area, anything would sell that isn't Hoth or Carkoon Wave because those are the two we got saturated with and the others just haven't shipped heavily.  Most of my stores still don't have a single figure on pegs, or even pegs for figures to be put upon, so right now most anything would sell here. :)  Derlin's, Veers', and Rieekan's need not apply.
