The Bullpen / Marvel Legends
« on: April 1, 2004, 12:04 PM »
Thanks for the opinions on the Spideys everyone, the ones mentioned were actually the ones I was thinking about too.  I haven't really kept up on Spidey Classics, is the Parachute one still able to be found in stores?  Maybe I'll take a look this weekend.  That Spidey in the Sinister Six box set looks nice too, I remember some of my comics as a kid having the webbing under the arms like that.  Part of me wants to start getting Spidey's baddies too, but I should probably stay away.  I always said "only X-Men", then "just this one super poseable movie Spidey", now its "well, it would be nice to have a comic version too".  Isn't that always how it goes? (at least with me it does sometimes).  Thanks again everyone for the info.

Just thought I would tell anyone that is interested, it appears Wal-Mart.com has Ultra Jabba in stock for $9.96.  They also have the 12" Jedi Luke ($24.77) in stock as well.  Here is the link, hopefully it works, if not...just search in Toys for star wars.

Feedback / Re: Mikey D's feedback
« on: April 1, 2004, 09:09 AM »
Just finished my first transaction with Mr. Mikey, and things could not have gone any better.  He went out of his way to find some stuff for me, and helped me get much closer to catching up with 2004 Saga stuff.  Great communication, super fast shipping, and a heck of a guy.  Don't hesitate to deal with Mikey D.

Watto's Junk Yard / Marvel Cards
« on: March 31, 2004, 03:18 PM »
Maybe a little off topic...but I wasn't sure where else to post this.  Did any of you ever collect the old Marvel cards?  My wife and I were cleaning/organizing a back closet and I found a box of these.  I used to be big into both baseball/football/basketball card collecting, and comics around the same time, and I have a fair amount of these cards from 1990 and 1991.  I still kind of enjoy looking through them, helps me to learn more about several Marvel characters/teams that I don't know as well.  I must have bought quite a few, I have a lot of doubles and triples :P.  Anyways, just wondering if any of you had/have these?

Watto's Junk Yard / New Batmobile
« on: March 31, 2004, 09:43 AM »
Courtesy of a post by MisterPL over at GH....there appears to be pics up over at the Batman Begins site of the new Batmobile.  It is a little different take than in the past, but the reactions I have read so far seem pretty positive on it.  I've really got high hopes for this movie...we need a good Batman movie again.  You can check out his new wheels here:

Quick question for your Marvel collectors....which do you feel is the best version of Spidey (from the various lines).  While out shopping a few months back, I picked up the super-poseable version from the Spidey 2 movie, just because I always wanted to have a nice Spidey figure (to go along with the Marvel Legends figs).  Is there a better (maybe comic-based) version out there?  Or is the one I have not too bad of one to represent Spidey.  I wouldn't mind getting a comic version someday possibly, but I wasn't sure which was the best.  If you have any opinions, I'd be happy to hear them.

I guess I do now see that the site UncannyXmen.net has some summaries of some of the X-Comics out there right now, as well as team rosters.  It is hard to keep up anymore with all the different X-Men characters, teams, comics, etc.  Might be better off sticking to Spidey or Bats  :D

Thanks for the recommendation Mikey, I might have to see if I can pick that up.  I've always been a Spidey fan, and from what I hear, this is the best comic of the character.  I'm also an X-Fan, but I'm not sure which comic is the "best" out there right now.  When I was reading, I mainly read Uncanny (years ago...)...but I know there are several versions now (Uncanny, Ultimate, New).  It is hard to keep track of them all.  I don't even know if my favorite characters (Beast, Iceman...as well as Cyclops, Wolverine, Nightcrawler, etc.) are in the same comics anymore.  I have also heard that Colossus is no longer around, except in alternate universes.  Anyways, thanks for the recommendations, I appreciate it because I really know little to nothing about comics anymore.  And, when I was younger, it was basically just the faves....X-Men, Spidey, Batman, and Justice League/Super Friends...although I do remember having some of those "Marvel Cards" that helped me learn a little more about other Marvel Characters.  I don't know how crazy my wife would be about my buying comics anyways...and I do already collect "toys" I guess :P...but I did enjoy reading the comics that came with my Legends figures, so that's a start :).

Watto's Junk Yard / The Adventures of Seinfeld and Superman
« on: March 30, 2004, 10:19 AM »
Just saw this this morning, they are doing a series of "web ads" for American Express.  If you like Seinfeld, or Superman, they are kind of funny.  I've always been a fan of both.  They had a little "interview" on the Today Show this morning promoting this, where they talked about when they killed Superman off in the comics (he wasn't too pleased about that :P)  You can check them out here, I think there is only one up so far (as well as a preview of the next one) with more to come:

Thanks for the replies everyone, I enjoy seeing your faves and opinions from the comic world too.  I remember really enjoying the comics as a kid, but like I said earlier, I think the last time I bought one was around 90-91ish.  I have gone back and forth and thought about subscribing to one or two, or just picking them up, but I'm not sure if I will do that or not.  I'm waaaay out of it as far as storylines, etc. go, and I'd have to start fresh I think.  I've heard basically nothing but good things about Ultimate Spider-man, so that was one I considered...as well as an X-Men comic (maybe Ultimate X-Men?, I don't know which is the best).  Then, of course, there's always the Star Wars comics too.  Thanks for posting everyone, its always fun to learn more about everyone's favorites....past or present.

Revenge of the Sith / Re: Episode III - Preview Figures (SPOILERS)
« on: March 29, 2004, 02:19 PM »
This would be neat, if true.  I was wondering if they would do something like this (particularly with the glasses) to complete the set.  I could see Grievous be one of the preview figures as well, since they are really starting to promote him already (cartoon, Insider cover, Hyperspace stuff).  Also, if you look at the some of the preview choices in the past (Boba Fett, Jango Fett, Zam Wessel) he kind of fits into the line.  I could also see some sort of a droid, the new clone/stormtrooper, and maybe a Wookiee warrior of some sort.  It would be nice to see some preview figures this year though....Episode II's preview didn't hit until a couple of months before the release, if I remember right.  At least, I think that's when I found mine.

So now that we have some sort of confirmation that this line is continuing, is there anything in particular that you would like to see make it into the line (for yourself or your children's sakes).  I really enjoy this line, although if we ever have children, it will be passed down to them.  In the meantime, I sure like them too.  I don't have any of the prequel sets in this line, so I'll limit this post to OT themed ideas.  I don't know if we'll ever see more ships/beasts/playsets, but since it is a wishlist, I'll include those as well.  I'm also curious how "background" they'll get with figures.  I'd imagine we'll get mostly "main" type characters or variations of them.  That said, I wouldn't mind seeing:

Original Trilogy

Figures 2-pack Ideas (not necessarily in these combos):

Bespin Han Solo/Bespin Leia (guess we're already getting Bespin Han w/ANH Leia, so maybe forget this one)
Bespin Luke Skywalker/Yoda
Bespin Lando Calrissian/Bespin Guard
Boba Fett/Carbonite Han Solo
Bossk/Dengar/4-LOM/Zuckuss (Bounty Hunter Packs)
Tusken Raider/Jawa
Emperor/Royal Guard
Endor Han Solo/Endor Princess Leia
Jedi Luke Skywalker/Gamorrean Guard (or someone else)
Skiff Guard Lando/Leia in Boussh Disguise
Hoth Snowtrooper/Hoth Rebel Soldier
Stormtrooper/Snowtrooper/Biker Scouts, etc. Troop Packs
Rebel Troop Packs (Hoth, Fleet Trooper, Endor, etc.)
Ewok Packs (Logray, Teebo, Chirpa, Paploo, etc.)
Greedo/Hammerhead (or various Cantina Alien packs)
Amanaman/Tessek (or various Jabba's Goons packs)

Beasts-

Jabba (possibly including Bib Fortuna, Salicious Crumb, and/or Gamorrean Guard)
Rancor (w/Jedi Luke Skywalker and/or Gamorrean Guard)
Bantha (w/Tusken Raider)

Vehicles/Playsets-

Tie Fighter (w/Pilot)
Slave I (w/Boba Fett, Carbonite Han)
Sandcrawler (w/Jawas)
Landspeeder (w/Ben, Luke, and/or Droids)
Darth Vader's Tie (w/Vader)
Jabba's Sail Barge (w/Skiff Guards)
Jabba's Palace (w/various Jabba goons)
Carbon Freeze Chamber (w/Ugnaughts and/or Bespin Guards)
AT-AT (probably wishful thinking, but w/driver, Snowtrooper and/or Imperial Officer)
Ewok Catapult or Village type piece (w/Chirpa, Teebo, Logray)
Death Star Playset (this would be the ultimate, and since the figures are so small, it wouldn't have to be ginormous necessarily, could really be nice though)

The list could go on and on, but like I said, I guess I don't know how extensive they will get with characters, etc.  I like the fact that it looks like we're getting a Bespin Han next, so that would cover the Hans through the first two movies basically (aside from Carbonite).  It also looks like we'll have three Lukes too, but I would still like to see Bespin and Jedi versions (particularly Jedi).  I hope they do a Jabba, Boba Fett, OT Yoda, and Lando in this line as well.  I'm just glad to hear it is continuing for now.

TV-9D9 / Re: CLONE WARS Cartoon... Reactions
« on: March 29, 2004, 11:08 AM »
After seeing the first episode of "Season 2" Friday, I am still really digging this series.  I'm glad others have noticed as well, that these toons really seem to have the Star Wars "spirit" like the OT did.  Not that I hate the prequels, although I don't like them nearly as well as the originals, but these toons do seem more "Star Warsy" to me.  Can't wait to see more of them this week, but a good debut on Friday.  I really enjoyed the "I have you now" line too, these are the types of things that should be done in the movies it seems.

11084
I was really happy to see this news this weekend.  Although we don't have any children yet, I have been picking up the OT-based sets (originally for "future" kids, but I have since opened them up and displayed them).  I really think this line is great, and I'm happy to see it continue.  I really like that they are doing Han in Bespin garb, finally a Leia and Ben, and it looks like the other figures that we've already seen (R2, 3PO) are at least modified so they aren't exactly the same (not sure about Chewie though).

I was going to stick to just the OT sets and figures, but seeing pics of the Yoda/Clone and Obi/Jango sets, it will be tempting to pick those up as well.  Overall, I'm pretty excited to see/hear about this...these are kind of my alternative to Kubricks since I can't afford those as easily...I like the "smallness" of them, and just think its a pretty cool line.  Like I have said before, something about them just reminds me of my vintage toys when I was a kid.  They are simple, fun, and you can just throw all your figures in the back of the Falcon and go play :).  I hope these aren't too tough to find, and the packaging really does look great too I think.  Between these, the animated Clone Wars, and the upcoming OTC-style cards, this sure has been a great year for packaging....and I'm an opener! :P

Original Trilogy Collection / Re: Original Trilogy Collection
« on: March 29, 2004, 09:37 AM »
Wow, I agree, that Han Bespin with Carbonite is awesome.  I saved that pic to my computer just because I thought it looked so cool :P.  I never understood why they didn't re-release that Han anyways (instead of the Commtech version)...the POTJ Bespin Capture one is one of my favorite figures of all time.  Anyways, I agree with Matt, I wish they would have started this cardback at least at the beginning of 2004, with the Hoth and Tatooine waves.  The samples shown over at GH look amazing, and I think the coolness of the cardbacks alone will tempt me to pick up the repacks they release that I already have.  The backdrop just looks so cool behind them.  I think we will end up seeing something else new yet this year too, because I have a hard time believing that the Bespin wave (hits late summer at least doesn't it?) would be the last "new" wave we'd see this year.  I saw now this morning over at Yakface that the Private Universe is reporting that we will see Episode III preview figures around the time of the DVD release.  Wonder if its true...  Anyways, this OTC packaging is superb though....and nice work on these Tydirium :).
