Just curious who out there is a sports fan, and who your teams are that you root for (any and all sports are welcome here)...
As for me, I'm a big sports nut, as is my wife. I was born and raised, and still currently reside here in SoCal (both in L.A. and Orange County/Anaheim), so you'll see my allegiances based primarily on that. I unfortunately can't help it if my teams are all better than yours, so please don't flame me for that (*cough*Scott*cough*)! ;D ;)
NBA:
Lakers (lifelong RABID fan - Magic, Kareem, Worthy, Shaq, Kobe, and of course Vlade... 'nuff said) 8)
Clippers (local team, gotta cheer the poor doofs on. Someday...) :-[
NFL:
Raiders (lifelong fan, even before they ever moved down from Oakland long ago) >:(
Rams (my hometown team growin' up - still a BIG fan despite their move) ???
Packers (just because my wife LOVES them - don't ask me why) :-*
MLB: (Baseball for the abbreviationally challenged)
Angels (lifelong diehard fan - not much to cheer for 'til this year though) :D
Dodgers (lifelong diehard fan - what's goin' on lately here?) ::)
NHL: (reduced to only a fairweather fan of late)
Kings (the only local team for a quite a while, not to mention that Gretzky fella) :'(
Ducks (see Clippers, plus that Kariya/Selanne line was fun to watch) :(
MLS:
Galaxy (not that big a soccer fan really, but they're the "World" Champs, so I had to add 'em in) ;)
WNBA:
Sparks (see Galaxy) ;)
Collegiate:
UCLA (lifelong diehard fan, wife went there, sister school to mine) :)
UCSB (Santa Barbara) - (my former stomping grounds, but not too big at the national level) :P
Olympics:
Team U.S.A. all the way baby! 8)
South Korea (I lived there for the last 3 years of High School)
Women's Tennis:
Anna Kournikova - She's WAY hot! :-*
Billiards:
Jeanette Lee (The Black Widow) - See Anna Kournikova. :-*
Hmm, looks like I went off on a little tangent at the end there, which would better be served elsewhere, in a separate, future thread...
So, how 'bout you? Who do you root for, if anyone? And if you generally despise sports altogether, that's totally cool too - I realize that they're not really for everyone...

I was born and raised in South Jersey but have been living the last eight years in Massachusetts, so my picks reflect that.
NFL
-New England Patriots - The 2001 Super Bowl champions
-Philadelphia Eagles - The 2003 Super Bowl champions (The Vikings can have it the following year, Scott ;) )
NHL
-The Broad Street Bullies Philadelphia Flyers
MLB
-The Old Town Team Boston Red Sox
NCAA
-Michigan Wolverines. I've been a fan ever since they beat Seton Hall for the Bball championship back in the day (I was in 7th grade). I've actually visited friends who went there and saw the campus. Unfortunely the football team was away that weekend so I didn't get to see them play live.
I don't really care for the NBA, WNBA, or MLS, so I don't have a favorite team.
I'll also throw out my favorite Nascar driver, even though I know there aren't a lot of fans here. The real Gordon...Robby, driver of the #31 Cingular Wireless Monte Carlo. He doesn't get a lot of respect, but he can just about drive anything there is and he's one cocky SOB, so that's why I like him.
-
Da Bears. ;)
-
NFL - Cleveland Browns and the 49ers
NBA - don't care, will not care, and have never cared
MLB - Cleveland Indians
that's about all the sports i watch considering i really only like too watch skateboarding.
-
NFL: Panthers, Raiders, Bucs, Ravens, Texans
NBA: Hornets, Spurs, Raptors
MLB: A's, BlueJays, Braves
NHL: Hurricanes, Fl Panthers, TB Lightning
College: Tarheels, Blue Devils, Ky Wildcats, Lsville Cardinals.
-
I'm sure max one, your favorite NBA is the Cavs, you are just embarressed to admit it, although you did list the Browns and Indians ;D
-
Hmm, how could I have missed this for so long ::)
NBA: When Irish eyes are smilin... (note, every time I post that, they lose).
NFL: Vikes
MLB: Twinkies
College BB - Louisville Cardinals, bring back Denny Crum!
CFL: Bombers, home boy.
NHL: The Jets. Oh, what? Oh yeah, they moved. Well, when they put in a salary cap, fold some of those silly southern US teams (hello, 4000 fans per game!?) and the Canadian dollar is no longer referred to as a Peso, we might, just might, maybe, possibly, get a team back. What? No, I'm not bitter, why do you ask? Until then, I guess I'll adopt Ottawa Senators. Can't cheer for the buds, the habs are the wife's team; canuck fans are too happy when the team is hot, invisible when it's not; no way flames, still haven't forgiven them for Macoun's crosscheck of Hawerchuk and never will I cheer for the Oil. Those dyansty years were a bitch.
Oh and one last thing. Lakers suck. BTW JediMac, you still owe me your wife in a trade.
gotta run...quickly ;D
-

gotta run...quickly ;D
Yeah, you better run! You half-looney, Leprechaun lovin', four leaf clover collectin', green (with envy), Lucky Charm eatin', pansy-@$$ Celtics fan! Is that quite enough to convey my dismay for you and your boys, or shall I go on?! ;D
I'll see your butt, my friend, on the 21st. Just don't expect this (http://forums.rebelscum.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=9;t=007736) to happen again though! Shaq-fu and the Kid are a comin' for you...!!! :o
BTW Brent, I believe JoshEEE wound up offering up something better than you for my wife, so I shipped her off to Seattle in that trade instead. I hope he was the winning bidder, otherwise I sent her to the wrong place! What would it take to pry Jackie off of your hands, now that I'm wifeless due to that trade?!
EDIT: OK Brent, I found the original link where I was trading my wife off (http://forums.rebelscum.com/ubb/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=36;t=004224), and it actually appears that you rescinded your offer at the last minute, so I'm correct - I don't owe you my wife! Looks like I didn't actually owe her to Josh either. Surprising that he never returned her. Geez, he didn't even leave me any trading feedback either... :P

to tell the truth i've never even been to a b-ball game, but i did like the lakers back in the day of majic,worthy,a.c.

Yeah! That's my boy! Guy knows a good team when he sees one... Let's not forget Kareem, Norm Nixon, Jamaal Wilkes, Michael Cooper, Kurt Rambis, Byron Scott, and most definitely Mike Smrek! Five-time champions...
SHOWTIME!

old school days back at the forum.

Just wanted to give my boys the Minnesota Wild their due for clinching a spot tonight in the Stanley Cup Playoffs this year. The Playoffs are one of the most exciting events in sports and I remember fondly the North Stars run in 1991 where they lost to the Penguins in 7, maybe its a Gulf War thing and the Wild will make a repeat performance
-
As it is now around 3 am and I have nothing better to do I thought I would add my teams!
NHL- not a huge fan but I keep up with the Nashville Predators since they are the local team.
NFL- I have been a Patriots fan forever though I am not sure what got me started on being a fan of the team in the first place. The Titans are second since they are local
MLB-The Padres even though I am sensing a horrible year. I was a huge Dodgers fan in my youth but then they got rid of Garvey and I became a Pads fan.
I really don't keep up with basketball. I hate the NBA but enjoy watching the occasional college game. The tournament this year has been good though I don't think any of the ret of the game can top the Gonzaga/Arizona game from last weekend.

NHL-Devils. If anyone dares to call out Stars, I'm going to have to show them who's boss.
NFL-Now, at the beginning of the season, I watched that some ESPN crew played a season of Madden 2002, on which they had the Bucaneers beat out the Bills in the Super Bowl. Now, they were half right, but I went along with that bet. So if anyone says that I just like winners, it wasn't because they won, I liked them from the start of the season. I've just given up on the Seahawks going anywhere. :(
MLB-I've given up on baseball. It just seems so ludicrous that it's getting later and later. I wish they could have some afternoon games, or something that I could watch when I get home. But if I had to pick, it would the Red Sox. Or the Mets. Or the Rockies. Depends on what day it is. Usually by August I'm done with the Mets, though. Except in 2000.... :P
NBA-I don't like basketball, but I'll go with the Timberwolves.
MLS-Chicago Fire
International Soccer-Norway, Denmark, France, or pretty much anyone not the US. Yeah, I'm from the US, but I get to see a US team win enough in baseball, football, etc(unless a Canadian team, but I'm fine with that too). So it's always nice to see another country win.
NCAA-UConn. I've also taken a liking to any Kentucky, Arizona, Colorado, Utah, and Vermont teams. Probably just because they're my favorite states. Don't want to get into that now, though. And of course, I haven't been to college yet, so I don't have an alma mater to root for.
Olympics-depends on the sport, but I usually pick Norway or France for Winter Olympics, and the US or Australia for Summer. Unless there's some other reason to pick someone else.
Golf-Mickelson, Olazabal, and Garcia.
Don't really care about tennis, and can't think of anything else right now....
-
I like the Broncos in the NFL. I live in Western South Dakota so my home is closest to Denver (KC sucks!) I don't like the Rockies though and have been a fan of the Astros for a while in baseball. I also like the Nuggets but I don't like telling too many people that
-
I also like the Nuggets but I don't like telling too many people that
I'd rather be a Nuggets fan than a Lakers fan FX-7
-
I'd rather be a Nuggets fan than a Lakers fan FX-7
Might be a good idea for you Scott. You'd probably have better luck with the Nuggets than the T-Wolves. At least the Nug's have made it into the second round of the playoffs in the past decade! ;D
-
I'm sure a few of our newer members are sports fans, so I'm bumpin' this bad boy back up to see what other teams are supported by our fellow JD'ers here! ;)
So chime on in sports enthusiasts!
-
Buccaneers. Thats all that matters to me. I wish I could just hybernate and be fed through a tube in the offseason.
-
Buccaneers. Thats all that matters to me.
I'd forgotten about that. Sorry Cory, but I don't like you anymore...
- The currently disgruntled Raider Fan >:(
-
NHL: Detroit Red Wings. Despite their early exit to the Ducks, they are one of the best times in hockey and the most exciting to watch. To whoever said they're a Devils fan, I like Broduer, but watching Jersey puts me to sleep. I hate the trap
MLB: Detroit Tigers. They were my favorites when I was kid, back when they used to win games. I still cheer for them though
NFL: Detroit Lions. I'm shooting for a .500 season. They drafted a couple guys from my alma mater, which I think is really cool. Hopefully they get some playing time
NBA: Detroit Pistons. I don't really care for the NBA, so its the Pistons by default. I used to be a big fan back in the bad boy days, but I can't standthe NBA is a whole anymore
College: Grand Valley State University. I went here for undergrad, and last year the Lakers were the Div II NCAA Football National Champions
Michigan State University. Where I'm currently enrolled and I've been a lifelong fan of them. GO GREEN
-
Well, I'm a bit of a hometown loyalist......so my favorite MLB team is the Astros.....
I really don't care for basketball.
I'm a fan of the Dallas Stars....as well as the Houston Texans ;)

NFL: NY Giants
MLB: NY Yankees
NHL: NJ Devils

I have had a hard time lately picking my favorite teams, since we don't really have anything (professional-wise) all that close to us here in Nebraska.
NCAA Football - Nebraska Cornhuskers, of course. Its part of life here. Hard to explain if you don't live here I guess, but we don't have anything else for sports really. We just love our Huskers....and I'm one of the fans that supports them, win or lose.
NCAA Basketball - North Carolina Tar Heels. I've been a fan since I was in junior high or so, and have always liked them. Finally back on track this year a little after a couple of down years.
NBA - My favorite sport, used to be a big Bulls fan (even a couple years before they won any championships...I just can't follow them anymore now, after all the dismantling they did with those great teams. I've really been wanting to find an NBA team to stick with, it becomes harder when players don't stay with teams quite as much anymore. I followed the Wizards when Mike was there, but don't care as much now. I kind of like Sacto, Minny, Cleveland, Denver, Milwaukee, Seattle, and Dallas though (lots of them, I know, probably even more if I'd think about it :P). I've been thinking about just following one of the closest teams to us (Denver, Minnesota, or Chicago are about as close as it gets I suppose). I don't know, right now...I've just had favorite "players", but it would be nice to have a team again :).
NFL - Used to be a big Raiders fan (in the Bo Jackson/Marcus Allen days), but not that big of a fan anymore. I don't know that I especially have a favorite, I don't have a problem with most teams (although for some reason I just don't like the 49ers or the Chiefs, can't really explain why other than the fact I didn't like them when I was younger) I do like to go for all the former Husker players (I'm a big Ahman Green fan, have even seen him in person a couple of times...but just not a huge Packers fan).
MLB - I'm not a big baseball person anymore, I used to be big into the Royals, and then to a lesser extent the White Sox (when Bo went there). Now, neither one really...Royals are still alright, and I find myself going for the Twins more so than anyone else now (my wife's a Twins fan as well).
Olympics - Team USA, any sport, although I really enjoy watching the basketball competition the most.

Yeah he does
