Title: G.I. Joe Pursuit of Cobra (POC)
Post by: iFett on March 6, 2010, 03:42 PM
Patiently awaiting until August to see if there's anything I want to bite on....I assume this line will continue full boar until the next movie hits theatres.  Hope we get a vinty/upgrade bone here or there until then.   :-\

A few months ago in the Q&A, Hasbro basically confirmed we'd see updates of Crazylegs and the SAW Viper, so at least they're peppering the line with those.

I don't like the wait until August. I need my City Strike Beach Head, Shadow Tracker, and Jungle Viper NOW, damn it. As soon as they hit ebay from Chinese sellers, I'm probably going to buy them there.

Diamond Comics listed the first wave of PoC stuff, and here it is for your consumption:

GI JOE MECH SUIT: In some battle situations, the forces of G.I. Joe and Cobra turn to their armored Mech Suits for high tech battles to determine the fate of the world. The G.I. Joe Mech Suit Figures comes with one mech suit and the matching driving figure, and are in scale with other 3 3/4" G.I. Joe action figures. Choose from the Steel Marauder (with Kickstart) or Cobra's Deviant (with Cyber Driver). Estimated ship date: 7/28/10

Looks like the Jungle Viper and Shadow Tracker are in later waves. :( But it's great to see that Beach Head in the first wave. I'm really liking what PoC has to offer. :)
Except for the Mechs. Those are whatever.

Nice to finally see some new pics.  Diggin the mech suits for the most part even though they're a little to colorful for my taste.  Definitely picking up a few things here and there.

Jesse,

The POC Jungle Viper is on Ebay right now and you will love the gun he comes with....

A WWII Finish 20mm AT rifle "Lahti"... Give it to your German OST Troops or your Indiana Jones Russkies...

What an incredibly weird weapon to give a GIJ...  Not that WW2 gear isn't unprecedented, but it's been typically more common things...  That, I can't say I've really ever seen.

That even looks very nicely detailed and scaled.  Very cool.

GI Joe Pursuit Of Cobra Single Carded Figures On Display At JoeCon 2010 (http://www.hisstank.com/gi-joe-news/conventions-9/gi-joe-pursuit-of-cobra-single-carded-figures-on-display-at-joecon-2010-9483/)

Looks like Snow Job and Zartan come with all the stuff the Chinese sellers are selling them with, which is good.

I am SO getting a bunch of those Alley Vipers.

So, can we now, at this point, finally, confirm that Zartan will have the movie style head and paint apps?

I wish there was a carded shot to seal the deal   ;D

I am too.  Shame these won't be $4-$5 when they come out, but at least we're finally getting some decent figures.

efranks, could you or someone else help me out here?  I am pretty confused about the packaging of some of the figures in the first POC wave.  Someone over at Hisstank just posted some pictures of Desert Zartan and Ice Destro sealed on their cards - but these cards were the old ROC style, not the new POC style.  Which is it going to be with these guys?

And, hell I'll just ask again cuz I am pretty confused, which head is Zartan coming with?  ROC style of Resolute?

At the end of the day it really doesn't matter for me since I open them all up for my son - just curious I guess.

Post by: efranks on May 2, 2010, 01:38 PM
Good question on the Zartan and Destro cards.  I'm not positive but since Zartan and Destro are both scheduled for release in Ocotober I'm assuming they come in the new packaging.  They probably had the ROC packaging on display because that's where they were first scheduled.

They figure in the case at the Con for Zartan is still the Vosloo ROC head but I don't know if that's the one that's coming or not.  I didn't ask but some other guys I talked to at the show were under the impression that he would have an updated head.

I actually left the con last night, I'm not there today otherwise I'd ask.  That might be a good Q&A question though, about his head, if it hasn't been asked before.

It's interesting to me that they're going to have both $19.99 and $24.99 price points for vehicles.  I would have thought they'd look to bring the Mech Suits and Bravo vehicles in at the same price since they're similar in size.

So, they're hoping to have three vehicle price points on the shelves for later this year: Alpha around $15.99, Mech suits at $19.99 and Bravo for $24.99.  Seems kind of ambitious after the issues with ROC last year.  I hope the stores buy into it.

I thought the same about the mech suits, especially since there seems to be as much - if not more plastic than a bravo vehicle would have.  Happy to get them for $20 though.

I wonder if the fact they're re-tasked Sigma 6 vehicles has anything to do with it.  That new VAMP, for example, is large but it's all air.

I don't think I'll get any of the Mech suits but I like both the new VAMP and HISS Tank.  I'd like to get one of each at some point.

Has anyone here picked up the POC figures from WS_Toys or the other sellers on eBay?

I have a bunch- Desert Battle Zartan and Ripcord, Snow Job, and the Volcano Viper. I'd suggest picking up Ripcord and Zartan, they're totally worth it. They're just like a regular-production Joe figure. On my figures, there's no missed paint apps or wonky joints or missing parts.

The last time I ordered from ws_toys it only took about two weeks for me to receive the package, so the shipping is pretty fast too.

Thanks for the info.  I'm probably going to order at least the three I mentioned and may get the Arctic Duke also.

Here's another question; has anyone tried putting a jacket from Arctic Snake Eyes, Shipwreck or the upcoming Snow Job on that POC Arctic Duke?  I'm thinking of getting the fig as much for the accessories as anything but if I could also snag another one of the arctic figs and transplant a jacket to finish off Duke it would be a bonus.

Recently picked up the TRU Sting Raider repaint.....Not expecting an answer, but was the little drone thing included with the 25th release of this vehicle?  I don't recall it with that version I have as they were both immediately shoved into storage.

Packaging has both ROC and POC so please forgive me for putting this in the wrong place.

I'm pretty sure the 25th and ROC/POC releases were the same new tool, so the drone should be with the 25th. Since I never did find the first release, I can't be sure, but it seems pretty likely.

While I'm here, thought I'd mention that I went ahead and ordered a cancelled POC Arctic Duke and an Elite Ice-Viper from one of the HK sellers.  Once they get here if they look good I think I'll go back and get the Desert Battle Ripcord and Zartan figures.  I'm tempted to snag one of the Spirit figures also but they should be out in about 2 months at TRU anyway so I'll probably wait.

Thanks, Jesse, for the recommendation.

I got my two figures from Hong Kong today.  I picked up the Elite Ice Viper to go with the squad of Ice-Vipers I've been picking up cheap at Target.  I also got the Arctic Duke figure.

The Elite IV isn't anyting mysterious, just a standard fig with red paint.  It looks good with a lot of weathering and such.  The joints are all solid and it looks like a full blown production figure.

The Duke figure is also pretty nice.  He didn't come with a jacket, as most don't, but I think one of the upcoming Snow Job jackets might be a good replacement.  The figure is pretty nice with good articulation, but I don't like his right hand much, it's not really suited to holding a weapon.  The accessories are pretty decent also.  The backpack doesn't fit that well without the jacket on but I think that'll correct itself once I put a jacket on him.  The rocket launcher isn't bad but since they included that backpack holder for it I think I'd have preferred there to be no shoulder strap.  The snowboard is pretty nice but the foot pegs don't hold Duke's feet that well, he looks a little off, but they hold nice so it's not bad.  The pack all fits together well with the accessories.

Over all I'm pretty happy with both figures.  Next up, Desert  Battle Ripcord and Zartan.

I tried the Arctic Shipwreck jacket on him and it fits, but didn't look that great.  I'm thinking the Snow Job jacket is going to be a better match but I'm not sure.  I'm sure someone has already done it, but when I looked for photos on Hiss Tank I didn't find any photo examples.

Yeah, that tank may be more of a dark grey than true black.  But I thought it looked good in the color that it comes in.

The new HISS is definitely dark brown or a dark rust color. It's a really cool toy, regardless of how you feel about the classic. I would recommend it, especially if you can find it for $20 or less.

Wave 2 carded images! (http://www.hisstank.com/gi-joe-news/gi-joe-movie-2/gi-joe-pursuit-of-cobra-wave-2-2010-figures-carded-images-9708/)

Pretty neat. I'm pretty sure I'll pass on Destro and the Snake Eyes from this wave, though.

And, in case you're not registered at Hisstank, here (http://generalsjoes.com/2010/07/16/new-carded-pursuit-of-cobra-images-make-a-good-day-even-better/) are the images from Generalsjoes.

Easy to pass on another Snake Eyes, especially easy when he is packed full of "action feature" line killing lameness.

I fully understand needing Snake Eyes and Duke in every wave.  I just like my Commando to be Ninja Free.

I'm not hot on that Snake Eyes or Destro and I plan on buying the Destro from overseas to get the original headsculpt.  I'll get Dusty but I want to see Recondo in person before I decide on him.  And I don't know about that Jungle Viper.  That odd camo thing he comes with is just a little too out there for me.

I was just looking through some of the pics over at CTR for this line (from SDCC), and I think it looks pretty nice.  Sure, it doesn't compare to the 25th Anniversary line, which was so well done and nostalgic at the same time - but for a "new" Joe line, I think it looks pretty nice.  I don't know how much I'll be able to grab, maybe a figure here or there, but if I was strictly buying Joes I think it would be a fun line to collect.

Scored Spirit and Quick Kick at my local TRU today. Spirit is incredible, but I would have had a tough time paying $7.50 for QK. Thankfully, the sale was still on, so I got the last set for $10.

I have to agree with the cards being really neat. In person, they're even better. I could see myself getting suckered into a carded set, but since POC is only four waves, it wouldn't be a big deal.

I don't know if it's four waves or not, but that was the number I heard on the Hisstank forums. I think we've only seen, what, three waves so far, and that goes through March of next year, so maybe there might be another couple of waves after that.

Post by: Brian on July 23, 2010, 06:23 PM
If there is only four waves, I might get in on this line a little bit more.  It should be fairly spread out, and maybe the last big "hurrah" before there would possibly be a switch to the animated style (sort of following SW in that way, unless they go with two lines like SW as well).  There are a number of the POC figures that look nifty (Snake Eyes, Low Light, Dusty, Recondo, Beach Head, etc.)

Picked up Quick Kick, Spirit, Snowcat, and the new HISS tonight at TRU.  Kind of difficult to dive head first into this line especially with all the new SW stuff coming out, but I did it.  Will probably keep them carded/boxed up for the next few days before I decide to open or return.

Grabbed the new HISS earlier this week from TRU (since apparently Target isn't going to be carrying the 25 buck vehicle assortment), and despite it being this weird brown color, it's a great toy.  There are a shitpile of stickers, though, so prepare your tweezers and fingers for a long afternoon.  One cool thing about the stickers is there are multiple letter/number labels included so you can do your own customized legion number or what have you.  Just looking at mine, I think it'd look good as a Mandalorian tank for SW, so one could always use "THX-1138" or something for that purpose. :)

A friend of mine commented that the color is the same as the color Hasbro has used on "brown coat" Hoth Han figures for the last 15 years (you know, that "it's almost real brown but slightly off" color), so that may clarify it for those of you who are on the fence based on color alone.

Scored most of wave 1 at TRU today, leaving behind Snow Job (because I already had him) and Storm Shadow (because I don't like this particular version.)

What can I say? I've been looking forward to these for months, and though I've only opened Beach Head and the Alley Viper so far, I'm not at all disappointed. I didn't think I could be this impressed by mere pieces of plastic, but I am.  ;D
Title: Re: G.I. Joe Pursuit of Cobra (POC)
Post by: DoctorPadawan on July 30, 2010, 12:34 PM
The local Target has been resetting the action figure aisle over the last week, and put out 2 cases of Wave 1 earlier this week.  I picked up Cobra Commander, Snow Job, Beach Head, Alley Viper, and Firefly, and two days later when I went back, all that was left were the multiple Dukes, Snake Eyes, and Storm Shadows.  :)

I have to say that I was beyond impressed with Snow Job.  I don't think I recall a figure coming with this many accessories at this price point, especially one from Hasbro; the only one that is comparable is the ROC Pit Trooper, although I'd say Snow Job beats him in how all his accessories can be packed on the figure itself.  I mean, he comes with a frigging frying pan!  This is, all in all, probably the best Joe figure I've gotten since the RAH days back in the 80's, and definitely the most fun figure this year.  The other figures are nice, but Snow Job is the winner, hands-down.

My only complaint is with Beach Head, mainly when it comes to his weaponry.  All the other figures have the ability to carry/pack their weapons (Firefly's backpack even holds his extra head), but Beach's plethora of guns have nowhere to go; not even a holster for the pistol.  Plus, and maybe I just got a bad one, the knife sheath on his back doesn't even have a knife that goes in it, making it a little useless.  Even though he's sculpted well, and has more accessories than you can shake a stick at, I can't help but feel a little disappointed that he doesn't have a backpack or anything to carry all of it around with him.

I'm looking forward to Snow Job.  I think I'm also getting Firefly (even though I don't need another).  I may get Duke, but I'm not a big fan of his so I'm not positive.

I'm not sure about the Alley Viper.  It's a nice figure, but I'm really waiting for the Cobra Shock Trooper, I want to army build a few of him so I may save my Joe budget till then.

I have to get to TRU sometime soon also, because I really want Spirit and Quick Kick.

The new figures look cool.  I thought the CC was new but it's only a repaint of ROC crap version and an easy pass.  The rest except for Duke and Storm Shadow look great.  Still can't wait for the Rage/Fury.

TRU has a BOGOHO sale again on Joes today and tomorrow, but all they had was SE & SS so I left without them.

I'm pissed he doesn't come with the mini H.I.S.S. tank.  Would have bought him just for that, but not now.

I saw Beachhead, which I thought was going to be a sure thing for me to buy, but the new design just doesn't do it for me.  The accessories are incredible, but these figures aren't doing it for me (except for Snow Job, who I will get as soon as I find one with a decent paint job).

Cobra Commander's head sculpt looks new to me?

I have picked up him, Beach Head and Firefly so far... and am scratching my head as to why these are $9.97 at Wal-Mart.

yeah CC has a new head.

I saw these for the first time at WM last night and yeah they were $10 each.  I did grab CC since supposedly he is going to be rare - but I have a feeling he wont really be that hard to find and I can take back my $10 version...

I've seen at least 5 Cobra Commanders so far, for what it's worth.

Also the ROC figures are $10 a pop at Wal-Mart too.  I'm hoping this is some sort of insane error in their system.  These figures look nice, but I think they should be about $5 each.

I saw these at both Target and TRU over the weekend, and ended up picking up the new Snake Eyes and Beachhead.  Personally, I think these are pretty spiffy figures.  I do like the new cardbacks, and the figures in general (at least these two) are very well done.  Tons of accessories, nice sculpts, and a good update to the older looks I think.  I have to admit, after opening these two up, I'm tempted to get more now.  Pretty nice line it seems, too bad it will be short lived most likely.  I could see it doing pretty well for awhile, if this quality kept up.

I was just looking at a few of the pics from SDCC again, and are upcoming figures like Low Light, that spiffy Snake Eyes, and the other "2011" figures part of this line as well?  I thought that they were, but I was just curious.  I have to say, pretty much everything looks great.  It is a shame that it could possibly be a short-lived line with the animated stuff around the corner.  The figures (and vehicles for that matter) really look great, and pretty fun.

Picked up AV, Firefly, & Snowjob tonight.  CC's are piling up.  Wish they would have included the mini HISS with him.  The mech suits look pretty horrid in person - way too toyish, but I dig the figures with the sets so I may pick them up in time.  I'll probably cave on the Dreadnock cycle & the revamped jet thing named that elludes me at this time.

It might just be a case of the timing of things right now, but these things seem to be selling like crazy locally.  Maybe each store is just getting a case or something, but our Targets have sold through these in a day each and TRU is about the same.  I picked up a couple of figures (Snake Eyes and Beach Head) at TRU a week or so ago, and thought of getting more, but haven't seen more than a single Duke and Storm Shadow (at different stores) since then.  It does look like a nicely done line though.

Haven't found time to crack into any figures yet, but decided to check out the "wolf hound" while watching Terminator 3 today.  Instructions were very wanky on assembly, but thankfully I remember my 8yr old self having put this thing together and Hasbro having faith in the current public on putting these things together.  60 some odd stickers.  Took me about the full length of the movie to get these all on straight.  Starting to hate these stickers, but loved em as a kiddo....not too much love for them now though

Great vehicle - love the updated missle firing system, but HATE the silly swirls....very lame especially since it seems it was only applied to various parts of the vehicle.  Oh well - was fun "putting it together" though.

I got around to opening Firefly and Snow Job today.  Both are really nice figures and both have a ton of accessories.

Firefly I almost passed on but in the end I thought the outfit looked really cool so I picked him up.  The highlights for me are the backpack and the alternate head.  Just a new, interesting look for FF.  Plus the mines that fit on the pack, cool.  I would have like to have seen a couple knives rather than the arm shields, though.  I almost broke one of them trying to put it on his arm and then just stuck them to his vest after that before I did more damage.

Snow Job is excellent.  One of the best figs I think Hasbro has done to date.  The guy is loaded.  My only complaint on SJ is the mess kit, the handle isn't hinged, so you're basically breaking the plastic to fold it over.  That's just a waste IMO.  I'm still surprised how they got everything on his pack but unless I missed something, they could have gone one step further and put a peg on the ice axe so that would hang off the pack, and they could have left off the fake bed roll since they included the shooting mat/shelter piece.  Those are minor, however, as this is now one of my favorite figs of the modern 25th+ lines.

After getting these two open I'm tempted to go back for Duke and Beachhead also, but may pass because I want to get both Spirit and Quick Kick next. Still, since this is going to be a relatively small collection, I'm tempted to just collect the whole thing.  I'm actually more excited about them than anything coming in the SW Vintage Collection.

Looks like K-Mart isn't in the POC game either. Stopped at my local one last night looking for Jodo (no dice) and there were no pegs for Joes to be found. Then I hit the clearance aisle and found scads of later-wave figs from ROC on clearance. I did find one of the Combat Heroes sets I was looking for, but no POC.

Kind of disappointing. I'm really glad I managed to get a full set at TRU a few weeks ago, otherwise, trying to find an Alley Viper or CC locally would be an incredible pain.

Does anyone know when the RAGE/Fury is going to be released?  I'm going to buy a couple of those for sure.  Need one to complete my 2008 Joecon Headhunter set since the Club couldn't find the wheel molds.

Now Hasbo should re-mold the Mauler turret and other missing pieces.  Then release a green and blue version like was planned for the 2007 Joecon.

Seems like most Targets in my area only ordered 1 or 2 cases of w1.  Pegs have been bone dry for awhile - even SS and Duke sold through.  Not really sure what the scene is at WM, but TRU seems to have a pretty good stock during each visit (in my never ending battle to find those new TFA figs)  w2 is hitting and I really want to bite on a few of those suckers when they finally show up.

I caved and bought the entire wave this morning at Target + x2 Jungle Vipers.  That's a pretty sick figure.  Now I just need to set aside some time to open w1 & w2.  I did open an Alley Viper last week and I'm glad this version can actually hold his shield.  Army-builder's delight!

Found Wave 2 at Target today also.  I didn't count all of them but must have been 2 or 3 cases worth.  I ended up getting Recondo and the Jungle Viper and almost bought Dusty.  After seeing the Dusty figure again, just didn't feel like a must-have fig right now.  Zartan is another good looking figure also so I may pick him up later.

Haven't opened them yet, but probably will later.

Update: I opened both figs tonight and have to say that I'm not hot on either one of them.  Recondo, overall, isn't a bad figure, but the way the head and neck are sculpted he's always looking down.  And while he has a lot of accessories, I don't really get the deal with the odd solar powered backpack.  That doesn't strike me as something that a Jungle expert would haul around.  The traps and the retracting snare are actually fun, though, and if that had been part of the pack without the solar powered stuff I'd have been happier.  The ankle articulation is kind of lacking and if the right hand has a peg, mine is locked up and won't turn so that's a negative also.  He's okay, but I may have to swap out his pack for something that looks more appropriate.

Jungle Viper, on the other hand, is ridiculous.  I get what they tried to do with the camo thing, but it just doesn't work for me.  It's hard to put the figure in any kind of a pose with the camo pieces pulled around him and have it look anything like what it's suppose to be.  It doesn't help that the peg for the figs back isn't a tight fit and it just falls out anytime you try to adjust.  I like the new wrist articulation, and if they'd done the neck right so that you could do prone shooting, I'd call this fig a winner even with the odd camo suit.  But since that doesn't exactly work either, it really deducts points.  The built-in wrist pegs for the arm camo also are a negative for me.  Without the camo parts on, they're still attached and just break up the look of the figure.

Both figs are good tries, but I'm not overly happy with either.  Maybe I should have skipped these and gone for Dusty and Zartan?

Anyone want to buy a loose Jungle Viper?

Like everyone else earlier in the week, I found (what looked to be 2 cases of) w2 at Target yesterday.  I picked up Zartan, Dusty, and the Jungle Viper, but left Recondo and Destro behind.  The latter two didn't look bad in the package, but I'm trying to be picky about some of these guys, and I already had a "modern" Recondo from those Cobra Island packs.

Zartan is actually a really nice figure, and much nicer than I had expected.  Tons of accessories, and they all seem to integrate with one another very well.  The ability to store the extra head in the satchel is a huge plus in my book, and I love the little "blinder" that you can put on the bird.  Hasbro really hit this one out of the park.  Dusty is good, I suppose, since I never got the version that was in the DVD packs, and the inclusion of the extra head was nice, although the barbed wire accessory kind of confuses me.

My Jungle Viper's left elbow joint was "fused" together, but thanks to some fine suggestions in another thread, I was able to use hot tap water to loosen it up and bend it without breaking it.  Maybe (probably) I'm just stupid, but it would have been nice for Hasbro to have included some kind of instructions on how to correctly assemble this guy's camo pack (they used to do this for much, much simpler assemblies on the RAH line in the late 1980's, so why not here).  Once I got him together, though, I was really impressed.  The only thing that bothered me was the gun itself, or should I say the inability to hold the gun in a correct position.  I suppose that can be worked with, but overall, I thought it was a good figure well-executed.

Zartan is still, however, the winner of the three figures I got, and I would recommend anyone on the fence about him to go ahead and pick him up.

I cracked open 1 of my Jungle Vipers today and had the same problem you had Eric on how to assemble the camo, but he looks very nice with everything properly in place.  No loose backpack peg on mine and he can hold either of his guns just fine - just not sure about the two smaller handguns.  I don't move my figures around too much once I find a decent pose for them.  I give him an A

Saw wave 2 of GI Joe today.  Looked them over but passed in the end.  They now have a swivel kicking Snake Eyes to help warm the pegs with Duke and Storm Shadow.  The new Destro has way too much frosty snow on his head and the green eyes are very ugly.  I'll have to look closer, but is the POC Dusty the same as 25th except the heads and accessories?  Zartan looked cool.  I really liked the accessories included with Zartan and Recondo.

The Jungle Viper may be worth getting just for the gun.  That Jungle Viper gun is suppose to be that big and is an anti-tank type gun used in WWII.

I wish they would have released the Jungle Viper without the Jungle and just made a Night Viper.

I don't see Night Viper anywhere on the JV other than the scope on the head.  Nice throwback if that's what he was supposed to be.  Would have been nice to see this figure done in mostly all black - possibly a variant without the ball joints?  but I still dig him.  Seeing tons of added value in these figures with all their accessories as compared to the SW stuff that come with next to nothing.  $6.99 is tolerable.  I will not be as liberal as I am being with POC now if they were at any higher price though.

I found Quick Kick and Spirit yesterday at TRU in Binghamton, NY.  They had Quick Kick on the pegs so I asked about Spirit.  They had one case in back and, for probably the first time in 15+ years of toy collecting at TRU, actually brought something out of the back that I wanted!  Bought both of them even though I originally thought I might pass on Quick Kick.

QK, however, is a really nice figure.  He has decent articulation, the nods to both Bruce Lee (scars on chest) and vintage AT (Kung Foo Grip logo on his gi) are fun and his accessories are about what they should be.  I only have two small issues with him, one is the way his wrists are sculpted, especially the left, which has his hand permanently tilted downwards.  It's kind of awkward for anything other than certain action poses and it makes it so his left glove doesn't fit that well.  The other issue wasn't one with sculpt but just with my fig, probably, and that's that the sword doesn't fit into the scabbard well.  It works, but I was a little afraid of breaking something when I put it together last night.  Still, that's probably just something with this one fig and in the end I worked it out anyway.  Overall, B+ on this figure.

Spirit was the one I was most waiting for and I'm really not disappointed at all with him.  There are a couple things that could have been done better, but none of them really take away from the figure itself.  He has really excellent range of motion in his legs and his arms and even his head has room to allow him to look up and down even with the vest on.  His bow, arrow quiver and machete are well done, so is the hatchet, but the gun is ridiculous.  It's larger than the Barrett .50 that came with Recondo for ****'s sake.  The snakes are okay, but I didn't really need them.  What I'd have preferred to the snakes would be a sheath for the machete, especially if it mounted to his vest similar to the way Billy's did in Predator.  Because, let's face it, this Spirit is basically a Joe interpretation of Billy anyway.  The other small nit is the way the pouches on the back of the vest are sculpted, they look fine but they interfere with the quiver fitting better.  The packaging for Spirit warps the loose arrow in the quiver but that's fixable with a little heat application.  One nice detail on the bow is that the wheels on the end are sculpted in such a way that if you wanted to, I think you could get a string on them and have it stay on to better complete the effect of the weapon, nice touch.  Definite A for me.

Way more happy with these two figures than I was with the Jungle Viper and Recondo.  Quick Kick has a small, silenced automatic that also came out of the bubble warped, like Spirit's arrow, so I'll have to heat that and correct also.  Spirit will need a weapon replacement for that ridiculous rifle but he has so many other top notch weapons that that doesn't even warrant a deduction in satisfaction for me.  I think the only two improvements that I could ask for in these figs would be that machete sheath on Spirit and a more neutral left wrist on Quick Kick.

When reports first showed up that they were out, I stopped at a TRU and when I didn't find them on the shelves I asked about them.  The guy didn't really know what I was looking for and he brought out a case of regular figs.  There were no specific pegs for the figs and the section wasn't really set for the new figs anyway (still had ROC overstock).

When I did find them, I spotted a Quick Kick on the pegs but no Spirit.  I asked two different people till they finally tracked them down in the computer, called the back room and had someone bring them out.  The guy brought one of each, Spirit and QK, and I took Spirit and the QK I'd already found.  He returned the other QK to the back room, didn't even stock it, and there was room.

My suggestion would be to ask.  Especially if your store has a lot of ROC left on the pegs, they may not be stocking them since they don't have dedicated pegs.

I can honestly say that I think this was probably the first time in 15 years that TRU has EVER pulled something from the back for me.  I'm at the point where I rarely even bother to ask anymore because the answer is 98% "what we have is on the shelf" with 1.9% being a blank stare and no understanding of what I'm talking about, followed by the "what we have" comment.

The SE from the first wave is pretty cool. But it has nothing on the SE from wave 3, who looks great. I think BBTS sold out all their preorders for that one, which is surprising for what is yet another SE.

Recondo/Gung-Ho is disappointing because of his neck, at least to me.
Title: Re: G.I. Joe Pursuit of Cobra (POC)
Post by: Jesse James on October 11, 2010, 07:37 PM
I picked up Recondo for myself because, well, I just dig Recondo (always did).  I like everything about him but the neck as well...  He's hunched, which is kinda cool looking for creeping around in the jungle, but it's a little limiting to his poses.

Loved all the gear, but I can't figure out where the traps plug into the backpack, which is annoying.  Really though, this is the Recondo I always wanted, neck issue aside.  He's badass to the extreme.

PS: I'd have liked him to have had hair too...  Didn't his RAH figure have hair visible from under the hat?  Why change that?
Title: Re: G.I. Joe Pursuit of Cobra (POC)
Post by: efranks on October 12, 2010, 12:18 AM
I  could be wrong, but I don't think the traps plug into the backpack itself, they plug into the cable so they can be reeled in.

I'm also not sure why he doesn't have hair.  To me, he's more Gung Ho than Recondo with the bald head.  I like the idea of the figure but the backpack is ridiculous and the head articulation sucks.  I might have passed on him if I'd seen him loose before buying him and realizing that the neck articulation was so goofy.

So it looks like the black HISS has been found by someone who bought a new case with the Fury off EE.  Are the Bravo vehicles still even being shipped to retail?  Target missed the boat, I haven't seen these at TRU since the line first started, and it doesn't even look like WM is even stocking POC in my area.

I saw the HISS at Walmart tonight (Winnipeg), along with both Mechs.

I haven't seen the new VAMP or Fury anywhere yet.  Target doesn't appear to be carrying this wave of vehicles, the WM stores I've been to are backed up on Wolf Hounds and haven't gotten new shipments in a while, and I don't know if TRU I was at most recently had the new vehicles at all.

I'm assuming that the date stamps on the boxes will be a clue to when the black HISS hits retail, but it'll take some tracking on the part of the community to narrow that down seeing as Hasbro, in their latest Q&A (at least what I read pertaining to this matter), didn't seem to give any info on how to tell the difference between first relase and the black running change.

I think I'd like to pick up this new VAMP, but I'm not going to order online for it.  I don't want it that much to pay shipping.

Saw these new pics over at CTR (http://www.cooltoyreview.com/story/front/Hasbro_GI_Joe_Pursuit_Of_Cobra_Update_135054.asp) of the next wave.  Is it just me, or do the paint apps look different on them?  I don't remember Destro being that red, and I don't remember the Shadow Tracker being that yellow.

Here's the Shadow Tracker photo I took in the case at the Joe Con earlier this year:

That looks like a darker green, more muted than the yellow color showing in this latest photo from Hasbro.  I'll be disappointed if it's yellow because the green they showed off previously was perfect for a jungle hunter.

Destro doesn't bother me even though he does look brighter in the new photo.  What does worry me, no Aliens style steady gun.  Just the Gatling gun that's pictured, I don't see it in the carded photo either.  If that's not included it moves Destro from the Must Buy to Pass column.

Need to do some research on these, read the Joe collecting sites to see what they have to say about it.  Maybe we'll all be hitting eBay to get properly colored and accessorized POC figures from this wave?

I never had the Rage as a kid and it looks really nifty so I will be definitely be picking it up if I ever manage to get my ass inside a WM store to look for one.  Would also like to get a hold of the black HISS at some point.  I personally thought the new vamp looked kinda cheesy so not sure if I'm going there or not.

My new Duke (wave 3) arrived today fgrom HTS.  I like him a lot - better than expected.  Confused about 2 things though.  What is the hole on the side of his bazooka for?  And, what is the peg in the side of the machine gun for?  They can be plugged into each other, but that look ridiculous.  If the peg on the machine gun is for him to hold while firing then ok - he looks pretty good that way - but it doesn't explain the hole in the bazooka.

The back pack/missile launcher is, though a little ridiculous, pretty sweet.

edit:  I need some 3 3/4 Aliens to destroy cuz this duke looks like a kick ass colonial marine to me.   ;D

Yeah, I agree on Storm Shadow. If I had found these at retail, I'd have skipped him. As bad as Destro is a pegwarmer, I think this SS will be worse since every figure in the wave is 3x per case. I bit the bullet on a set so I wouldn't have to pull my hair out trying to find a Shocktrooper like I did for the Jungle Viper and continue to do for more Alley Vipers. (Seriously, I've only seen one at retail and that was back in August.)

The figure in hand is OK. It's a great sculpt, but just an absurd design for a figure. There's too much going on color-wise (the red pants are kinda WTF?) and the action feature is hindered by the plastic skirt piece a bit.

I ordered the SE during the HTS free shipping thing, and he just arrived yesterday.  I have to say, although we've had a pretty good run of Snake Eyes figures lately, this might be one of the nicest action figures Hasbro has put out.  The sculpt/articulation/etc. is all great, of course, but the swappable heads and the ton of weapons/stuff he comes with really puts him over the top.  I think with the discount and free shipping deal I got this figure for $5 and change, and it was more than worth it.  Great "toy" and action figure at the same time.

That's great that you got to take advantage of that sale and free shipping.  I missed out on it because the figs I wanted were all sold out every time I checked.

Target slowly sold down the wave 2 stuff they had and today restocked.  I was initially psyched when I saw new product, but it was just more wave 2, nothing new.  I don't know if any of the wave 3 stuff has been reported at retail yet, but unless Target clears these figs this week I fear we won't see the next wave till March or later.

As much as I'm looking forward to this Snake Eyes, I'm dying for the Low Light.  God that is such a beautiful figure.  It sucks that I saw them in person so long ago and still have a month or more till they get released.

I've been too busy with SW + TF on HTS + other areas to even think about w3 POC.  I've heard numorus times over that the new SE is fantastic and I'm sure I'll see him at retail some day.  Most of my Targets are wiped out of Joes for the most part, but WM's seem to be very caked with figures (including AV)

Put me in that group too...  I don't buy many GIJ's but I did buy SE tonight.  Good lord what a neat figure.

Looks like they've seen Marauder Inc.'s high quality accessories and decided to start making removable supressors.

Got my bro a set sans Stormshadow because Stormshadow always feels like overkill, but I did get him an SE even though he normally doesn't buy SE's much any longer.  To me, this figure replaces them all.  Now if they'd just make an articulated Timber to go with him.

BTW, $5 POC figures at WM too...  Not where Ig ot the new ones, but they had a lot of figures from all the previous waves.

Nah, I'm talking something with poseable legs and head at least.  Something that actually can assume some common pet posing like laying at your feet, lunging/running, or just standing there.  It'd be pretty slick I think to have a Timber that could match its master in coolness.

Picked up w3 Snake Eyes, Duke, and the Cobra Shock Trooper at Target earlier today.  They were part (along with the crappy action-feature laden Storm Shadow) of one of those "endcap longboxes" with 3 of each figure.

Snake Eyes is pretty much the best version of that character they've ever done, dating all the way back to the old non-swivel arm version I got back in 1982.  I'd go so far as to say it's one of the 5 best Joe figures in the 3.75" scale ever, if not the best.

I was surprised how much I liked Duke (I hadn't even planned on getting him).  Pretty simple figure (once you take the Rock'nRoll v2-style gear off him), and works well as an updated version of the character far better than the first POC version, which I thought was a bit too busy, design-wise.

The Shock Trooper is damned near perfect, although my problem with him is the same one I had with the POC Beachhead (the fact that most of his weaponry can't be attached or stored on his person).  Lots of cool gear, and lots of built-in customizability, so I'm sure he'll do very well at retail.

I'm actually liking the POC stuff (basic figure-wise) more than the 25th anniversary stuff, which I thought was just about perfect.  Is Hasbro still planning on doing something stupid and abandoning this style of stuff for the animated Renegades figures?

Nope. Now they're going to keep POC going, and any Renegades figures they do will be in the realistic style, which I guess means that Hasbro realizes what audience actually buys GI Joes. I'll dig up the Q & A where they confirmed this, but it might take me a while. I do know it's on Hisstank though.

I agree with the statement that these are better than the 25th figures.  The quality is far superior to most of that line... at least the early figures from it.  The ROC figures were pretty good in their own right.  Hasbro has really stepped up to the plate with this line - the only dud I think is the current Storm Shadow and the Snake Eyes that also had that kicking feature.

I'd love to see them put that Cobra Trooper from the Resolute line into this lineup... would really be great if they did.  It might be just a repack, but a welcome one at that.

Locally, the end cap at Target that had the new GI Joe POP display, just got restocked with some wave 1 and 3 figures.  I think there were a couple more Duke and Storm Shadow figures today and they also had a Firefly and Beachhead.

While I would have liked to have seen wave 4, I was happy to snag the Beachhead.  It was a figure I passed on but over time, the more I saw of him, the more I wanted to pick him up. Probably open him up here in a little while.

Yep, wave 4 has Low-Light, Shadow Tracker, Skydive and the new Destro.  I can't wait for this entire wave.  The only thing I don't like is that they took the steady-gun out of the Destro set, he just comes with the gatling gun now.

I'm looking forward to Low-Light and Shadow Tracker the most.

I personally am hoping for a running change or variant on him where they switch the guns.  I like the figure and I will definitely buy it when I see it, but I can hold off opening him for a bit (unless I for some reason feel like I need 2) in hopes for a steady-gun version.

I'm hoping that Aliens inspired steady gun comes out also.  I don't care if it's a running change or if they sneak it in with another figure somewhere as long as it comes out.  I will probably buy the Destro as-is when I see him but I don't know if I'll keep him carded in hopes of a change.  I may just re-buy if they do.

Hopefully we'll see something at Toy Fair about that gun, or someone asks.  I don't think there will be any Joe Q&A between now and TF so that'll be the first opportunity to find out more info.

Here's a question, though.  Did a Destro with the steady gun ever hit eBay either as a proto or finished, but unpackaged, example?  Or, even packaged?

I'm pretty sure not, E, as I try to keep an eye on that.  However, the steady-gun exists in that scale from Hot Toys...  Even articulated arm to the belt.  It's pretty neat.

Picked up the AWE Striker last night, mostly for the Night Fox figure.  Also grabbed Dusty to go with the desert theme.

The Night Fox figure is really nice.  The ankle articulation is a little limited but overall it's a great figure with a crapload of accessories, which is one of the reasons I decided to buy the set.  I think they could have done without the belt/holster so that the vest fit a little better, but it's not that big of a deal. Actually, what would have rocked is if they had a vest with a holster on it, which would make more sense for a driver.

I like the colors on the AWE Striker but it's not really one of my favorite designs, I don't like the suspension on the wheels.  But it's not a bad vehicle.  And surprisingly enough, even with the odd hip armor on the Dusty figure, I was able to get him in the passenger seat, so I was happy with that.  If Hasbro released the AWE Striker again I'd like to see them retool the suspension and change the whip antenna.

Found a few revision cases at the local Targets, so I picked up a few Alley Vipers and a couple others I wanted more of from wave 1. I also noticed Target raised the price on POC singles to $7.99.  :(

$7.99 here too, just checked tonight.  They raised that price some time this week but I don't know exactly when.  Reports over on Hisstank of others seeing that price alsong with a $20 price on the Alpha vehicles which had been $16.99.  The $16.99 tag was still on the shelf at my store today, but they didn't have anything out to scan for me to double-check.

$7.99 for the figs w/ Vintage Collection Star Wars at the same price, I could see an argument made even though I don't like that price, but adding $4+ to the Alpha vehicles?  Nope, that's ridiculous.

$20 Alphas? Makes me glad I found and bought the AWE Striker and Ice Cutter last weekend.

I remember back in the RAHC days in 2000-01 when I bought the TRU exclusive AWE Striker for $10. $20 for it now is just insane.

Previews for February 2011 lists this as the next wave of POC:

    * Jungle BAT
    * General Hawk
    * Blowtorch
    * Steel Brigade Trooper
    * Cobra Trooper
    * Cobra Commander

And there's an image of the Jungle BAT, which I kind of like:

I am wondering if a Neo Viper head would fit on this new Destro?  I think it might look cool.

Oh wow - I'd absolutely love for that to be true!  Crazy Legs was a favorite of mine as a kid... so was Croc Master.  A Rock Viper and Iron Grenadier would be great... sounds awesome to me.  And a new Viper?  I hope it has elements of the RAH design, but more realistic colors and much better sculpt/articulation than the 25th version.

Apparently that list came from BBTS and someone from the Tank spotted it.  BBTS has removed the listing now.

Out of that list, the only figure I'd buy is probably the Viper.  Maybe an Iron Grenadier, but it depends on what he looks like.  Not a fan really of the Rock Viper or Croc Master, Crazylegs isn't terrible but I doubt I'd be that interested.

And another Snake Eyes?  Hasbro, you just gave us probably the best SE you'll ever be able to produce.  Please don't **** it up by trying another version.

^^^  what he said about SE - though if it really is cool I would have no problem with getting another.  The rest of the list sounds pretty cool though.

One thing to think about/ask though is, when does Hasbro plan to start adding Renegades characters into the mix?  Out of the past 2 rumor lists there is only 1, maybe 2 figures that could fall into the Renegades show (unless I am missing something since I am about 2 episodes behind) - those 2 are Cobra Commander and Cobra Trooper.

Now, did something change or didn't Hasbro say that they weren't going to go with figure designs based on the Renegades animation?  Did that change or is Hasbro just planning on doing Renegade characters in a realistic POC style?

I'm loving what they're doing right now and really want to see it continue.  I definitely want POC style Scarlett and Baroness figures along with Cover Girl and then a couple other other favorites like Gung Ho, Rock n Roll, maybe Law & Order or Mutt and Junkyard, a new take on Stalker, Alpine and Major Bludd over on the Cobra side.  I'm just not ready to move on from what they're doing right now into something else.

Title: Re: G.I. Joe Pursuit of Cobra (POC)
Post by: efranks on January 30, 2011, 02:43 PM
Okay, I've had time now to open Destro and look over all four figures in this wave again.  I'm looking at them from two angles, the first is if they're good toys and the second if they hit the mark as collectibles.  The second is less important to me, but unfortunately where two of them fall.

Low-Light
I was most looking forward to Low-Light and Shadow Tracker.  I've been wanting them since seeing them at the GI Joe con last year.  Low-Light is the one I'm most disappointed in for a couple of reasons.  The first being the fragility of the accessories.  He's an example of what can be accomplished at this scale, with the level of detail and the amount of accessories, but now that it's been proven that it can be done, it doesn't necessarily mean it should.

The rifle is nice, but the collapsible stock is fragile and trying to pose the figure with it extended puts pressure on it that I’m afraid will cause it to break if I’m not careful with it.  Same with the scope.  The tiny pegs worry me whether it’s putting the scope on the gun or on the holster on his leg.  One wrong move and it’s broken and worthless.  The radio set is the same way, especialy the antenna.  It’s tiny and since it’s a separate piece, I’m thinking that short of storing it in a box, I’m either going to lose the antenna or break it.  To a lesser extent, the spotter scope is the same, with the legs being something I’m afraid I’m going to snap if I’m not extremely careful with it.

Just taking the accessories out of the package I had a momentary lapse and nearly broke the barrel off the UZI.  I was able to bend it back but it’s weakened now and will probably come apart eventually.  The gun case is nice and I like the fact that you can use it as both a backpack or a case.  It was kind of a bitch to get open and, again, I was worried about breaking a tab or something.  The backpack is a decent piece, though, and it’s nice that you can put a couple of the accessories in it.  That’s actually one of the best pieces of the set.

Overall, Lowlight looks great and he does have some good articulation, but I’m so paranoid about breaking or loosing accessories that I don’t feel that he makes a good toy.  I think to make him really playable, I’d replace some of his equipment with Marauder’s stuff and store his accessories away so that they don’t get lost or damaged.  So while I was most looking forward to Low-Light, ultimately I’m the most disappointed in him.

Shadow Tracker
Shadow Tracker was my second most anticipated figure and he fares better than Low-Light, in my opinion.  My major gripe with him is the amount of accessories he comes with and the complete lack of his ability to carry most of them.  While other figures in the line have working holsters and sheaths, Tracker has only one working sheath and then a hole in his leg for another bayonet.  Why not cut down on the number of accessories and spend that money on a sheath or two?  The other major issue is his hair.  The arrow backpack is actually a decent piece but unless you cut his hair, you can’t put that on him.  I don’t want to buy a toy and the first thing out of the package I have to do to it is cut it up with an X-acto knife.  And I think even if I do that, the hair is still going to get in the way of the backpack.  I may have to look at some photos online to see what others did.

As a toy, though, he fare better than Low-Light.  His accessories aren’t really as fragile and except for the fact that he can’t carry most of them, they work well.  Even the net trap has some possibilities.  He could have easily been better with one leg sheath instead of a hole for a knife and maybe change up his vest so that there was a better way to attach some accessories.  The only other issue I have with him is the lack of ankle articulation.  If they’d sculpted the pants just a little different it would have been greatly improved.

Still, I like Shadow Tracker and I think with the right selection of his accessories, he makes an excellent enemy for the new Spirit figure.

Skydive
I liked Skydive just because of the ridiculous accessories.  Seeing him all together in person, he’s a really cool looking figure.  All of the accessories fit well on the figure and the winged backpack, while kind of weird, works well and looks cool as ****.  Under all the skydiving accessories, Skydive also makes for a decent looking commando figure.  Drop him behind enemy lines, drop his gear and he’s ready to go.  Most of the money on this figure is in the backpack and harness accessories so I can’t blame Hasbro for not giving him more than a pistol, but I think pulling a rifle from another figure and including it with him would add some playability.

While I thought Skydive looked cool, I wasn’t really in a hurry to get him.  Now, though, he’s one of the top two figures of this wave for me.  The other being Shadow Tracker.

Destro
I was really disappointed to find out that Destro didn’t come with the Aliens style steady-gun but the gatling gun he does come with is pretty cool, although I don’t care for the ammo belt just kind of hanging out into space.  There’s no backpack or anything to attach it to so it’s kind of odd.  The steady-gun part of the rig seems to work okay, but it takes a little doing to get it into a position that looks like it should work as intended.

This is one of the better looking Destro figs, IMO.  He’s huge and looks mean as ****.  The armor pieces work well and the integrated holster works for the pistol that’s included.  I think he’d look equally good with a big grenade launcher or something.  I like the paint scheme even.  It just all works.  Oh, and the brief case of money?  Excellent!  That’s just a cool accessory for a weapons dealer.  It’s a nice touch.  I’m hoping that the rumored Iron Grenadiers that BBTS posted the other day are real and that they complement this version of Destro in some way.  It would be cool to surround the boss with some equally badass looking henchmen.  Of the four figures, I like Destro about equally as well as Shadow Tracker but do think that he makes a somewhat better toy than ST because all his accessories seem to work well.

I’m still glad to have the Low-Light figure and maybe as I spend more time with him my opinion will change.  The figure itself is fine, I found most of the faults with the accessories.  It just feels like kind of a letdown for a figure that I’ve been waiting almost a year for.

Great review efranks! I definitely feel the same way about Lowlight. His accessories are troublesome. I was in awe when I first opened the figure, and thought the accessories were the best things since sliced bread. But now, after having it for a couple of weeks, I feel that some parts either don't fit together well (scope on the rifle), will get lost too easily (bullet and antennae) or might break with just light posing of the figure (bipod and stock.) I'll probably pick up another Lowlight when the revisions hit, hopefully the accessories will be a bit more durable. At the very least, I can treat them with more care right from opening the toy.

The other three figures are damn-near perfect though. I don't mind the lack of storage options on Shadow Tracker, as I've been switching his inventory based on his "missions." Plus I don't think he would need more than a couple of weapons at any given time.

My wave 4 arrived yesterday and I found a new Snake Eyes and two Shock Troopers today, so I'm stocked up.

eFranks is right on.  When i first opened Low Light, I thought, "Aw, these accessories aren't so bad," and then I dropped the bullet and spent the next half hour combing the carpet looking for it.

It's a pretty petty gripe, though, to have too many accessories with too much detail.  The figures are phenomenal, and for my money, I'd say the POC line is the best thing going, action figure wise.  The detail, accessories, and articulation are unbelievable.

Low Light and Shadow Tracker have a bit of Recondo neck going on, as well.  But again, that's just me being bitchy.  All of these figures are incredible.

Post by: DoctorPadawan on February 21, 2011, 11:54 AM
I picked up Low Light this weekend at a local Wal-Mart, and I have to say, I'm pretty impressed at the level of detail that went into his accessories.  I think it's a great aspect of most of the POC figures that they can carry all their gear either in their packs or on their bodies.  Little things like the ability to have LL either carry his gun satchel, wear it on his back with the backpack, or wear the backpack with the satchel attached to the side make this line the best value, IMO, in the action figure aisle today.

Is there some weird revision case that doesn't include Shadow Tracker and/or the new Destro?  All this WM had was LL and Skydive (also a neat figure, btw), along with several Cobra Shock Troopers, Duke, and Commando SE from the previous wave that hadn't been there a day earlier.

There's a wave 4 revision case without Shadow Tracker and Destro.  It has 2x Cobra Commander,, Snake Eyes and Cobra Shock Trooper along with 1 each on Alley Viper, SS, Jungle Viper, Duke, Skydive and Low-Light.

I'm actually hoping to find that because I'd love another shot at some Shock Troopers.

They had been in the $6.97/$6.99 range but Target bumped them to $7.99 recently.  I think my Walmart is still under $7, at least it was last time in I was in which was one day last week.  I was planning on stopping at Walmart after work tomorrow and if new cases of POC have been hitting, I'll gladly buy, especially if I can score a couple more Shock Troopers.

Dial-Tone will likely cost more on ebay now than a membership, plus there was the fact that the club got the leftover Slaughters from SDCC last year, so I figured the same thing might happen with Zarana this year. The subscription figures have historically been bagged.  Dial-Tone will be also, but they are offering a 600 piece carded run at the convention this year. If any are left after the con they'll be in the online store, but the way this year's going, I wouldn't count on that.

Most of the other exclusive figures that are available online are carded or come boxed in some way.  Convention sets come in a big box with a foam insert and there is also a bagged set available.  Show souvenirs have been a mix.  There have been both bagged and carded, but I think they're usually bagged.  Those may or may not make it to the store after the con.  Last year's are still available, for example, but other than some parachute figures, most souvenirs sell out at the con or shortly after, they usually don't hang around for long.

Club membership gets you a free figure, either 3.75" or 12", 12 months of the Club newsletter, free listings on mcax.com (now online), access to the forums, and paid member pricing on all items in the store.

I've always gotten the 12" member figure in the past so that, along with the newsletter, is worth the price IMO.  It's debatable if the magazine is worth it or not.  Personally, I like it, but there are a lot of people that complain about it not having the kind of conent that they want to read about.  Mcax.com, I haven't used that yet as it just came on, but it is a sales alternative to eBay, Craigslist and forum postings.  It remains to be seen if that's a worthy perk.

I think it's a way better deal than the Gentle Giant Premier Guild, for example, because you get one bust and a ****-ton of headache for your $60 (plus shipping) with that subscription.

Noticed that the Wal-Marts around here no longer have GI JOE figures in their toy aisle...  :-\
Quite a few of my WMs never even carried the POC line from the beginning, but I've noticed the few that did have recently pulled out.

Ditto here.  Back in January during the post-holiday reset, one of the three local WMs dropped the Joes (along with about 75% of the rest of their boys action figure aisle lines).  When I went into the two that had not dropped them today, those two stores had dumped the Joe stuff into the clearance aisle (and had marked them down, oddly enough), and there was no space for them on the plan-o-grams.  It seems that the Summer Marvel Movie Toy Menace has taken its first casualty, and it's one of Hasbro's own properties.  Ironic, I think.   :-[

My Walmart did another reset the other day to make room for the Thor figures.  After the shuffle, the Bravo Vehicle slot went away (after never having stock) and the Alpha and figure areas moved.  Still no new stock, however.

They also made room for the Pirates of the Caribbean figures, which I think I mentioned seeing in another thread around here somewhere.

You're right that it's ironic that Hasbro is losing retail shelf space to itself.  What makes it worse is that, from a shopper's point of view, Hasbro's film track record has been ****** since the first Iron Man and Transformers films.  The Joe line tanked, the IM2 line tanked from our point of view, and TF2 didn't seem to do the sales that the first film did.  Maybe the IM2 and TF2 lines sold better than they appeared to, but I'd be surprised if they sold anywhere near what Hasbro hoped they would.

Meanwhile, the new Joe line, which has some of the best product of the last 10 years, suffers as does the Marvel Universe line which fills the non-movie related void that Marvel superhero collectors have.

Got a pic?

If they're just flippers like a diver has, I'd guess it's like Navy SEAL gear when they're dumped near shore but don't need the whole diving kit...  There's a BBI Soldier in woodland fatigues with a breating harness and flippers for basically the same thing.

Went into two Targets and both of them had pegs crammed full of Cobra Shock Troopers and Alley Vipers.  I picked up six of each on sale for $6.99.  Don't know if this is isolated luck or if there are case revisions with these popular army builders hitting.  Just a heads up.  Also saw one Shadow Tracker and two Skydives at each Target.  No new Destros and no Low Lights.  But man...it was tough leaving any of those Shock Troopers on the pegs.

I've been seeing a very steady flow of figures rotating at both Target and TRU.  It's a shame that Wal-Mart dropped the line, because the figures seemed to move really well there too.

I've been seeing the same thing... less so at Target since they have fewer pegs. I'm also fortunate to still have a local WM stocking Joes, and it's been like a personal treasure chest. Lowlights, Shadow Trackers, Destros, Shock Troopers, and everything else all stocked fairly regularly... and it all sells out!

I gotta say, the revision cases for Joes and Marvel Universe have really helped get a lot of figures back into rotation. I hope Star Wars gets the same treatment later this year.

Yeah, I think the Star Wars team could learn a thing or two for vintage by looking at how the GI JOE line has been handled.  However, they need to also find a way to lower the MSRP for vintage.  I think the price is hurting that line.

Just got an email from BBTS that my set of wave 6 is in stock, so in about a week, I'll have new Joes.  ;D

Wonder what happened to wave 5. Not that I'm complaining; I was more looking forward to wave 6.

Found a fresh case of wave 3 at Walmart yesterday.  Three each Snake Eyes, Duke, Storm Shadow and Shock Trooper.  Picked up all 3 Shock Troops.  Felt a little guilty buying the whole lot, but I won't need any more and rather than pin my hopes on another restock, I'll let everyone else in town fight over those.

I'm hoping that Wave 4 shows up, especially that second revision, it has 2 each of the army builders, although there's no Low-Light.  I'd like 2 if not 3 more Alley Vipers.  But, with wave 6 being spotted at retail, I may need to save my cash to hopefully stock up on Iron Grenadiers and Vipers.

Finally found a Shadow Tracker at Target earlier this week, but I actually found him to be a little bit disappointing.  For all the cool gear he comes with, I can't get any of it to work properly, mainly due to his dreadlocks blocking the backpack hole for his arrow/quiver setup.  I guess I was spoiled with how Low Light could pack every last piece of his gear along with him.  All I need now is Money Case Destro and I'll be...oh wait, the next wave just started showing up.  ****.   :-\

Also picked up the Fury w/ Alley Viper Officer at Ross for 12 bucks.  I normally don't buy Joe vehicles due to the room they take up, but it was too good a deal to pass up.

That was one of my complaints with Shadow Tracker also.  Loved him when photos started showing up, but reality set in quick.  He really can only carry one or two of his accessories and the rest are left on the shelf.  The one saving point on the quiver is that it'll also attach to his leg so that's an option.  But I wish they'd cut down one or two accessories and invested in a sheath or two.

After seeing what Hasbro released in the Captain America deluxe figure line, I'm wondering why they couldn't have snuck a working parachute into the Crazy Legs packaging.  He's light on accessories anyway, so why not throw in an awesome play feature that really kind of works for all ages?

I'm thinking now that I should pick up one of the Target soldier figs with the working chute and part it out.  And I wasn't even going to buy Crazy Legs.

Two of my three local Wal-Marts (the "A level" stores with a full toy section) completed their resets for the new summer movie toys this week, and right in the middle of it were six pegs for "GI JOE SINGLE FIGURE."  So, at the very least, it seems that WM is back in the Joe-selling business (for the time being).  Nothing had been stocked in those sections as of this morning, but at least there's space for them.

Of course, a road trip out of town saw me visit 4 other WMs, all of which had the same situation, but with pegs freshly stocked with at least 3 cases of 2011 wave 1 (the wave with the Shock Trooper).  Great.   :-\

My local WMs never dropped Joes, but they got hammered with the Wave 3 cases a few weeks back. I never thought I'd see the Shock Troopers pegwarming, but it's a reality at those stores.

Over on Hiss Tank they had a thread about WM stores putting up new pegs for Joe with this latest reset.  My store never dropped them, but they had wave 1 and 2 early then one case of wave 3 snuck in a few weeks ago but it's been very sparse.  There was a point where the only two figures they had on the shelf were two wave 1 Destro figures for over 2 months....they're still there but now joined by two left over W3 Duke figs.

After Christmas they had a shelf spot for the Bravo vehicles, never stocked them.  The pegs were there for maybe 2 or 3 months, never stocked, and then they got pulled.

Cool, thanks for the info.

All the Wal-Marts out here reset with 8 pegs for POC figures this week... 3 stores are empty, 1 store put out what looked like old stock from Wave 1 (cards were not in great shape, I'm sure they had put them back in the stockroom when they removed Joes from the aisle).

Looking forward to hopefully an onslaught of the Cobra Trooper and Cobra Viper waves in the coming weeks!

The wave with Destro, Lowlight and Shadow Tracker has never been stocked here either.

Monday night there was a new case of wave 6 which is the one you saw, Jesse, with Iron Grenadier, Viper, Crazy Legs, Croc Master and Snake Eyes.  I picked up both Viper figs and one IG, the other was gone when I got there.  I really like the IG figure, he's basically Destro with a new head.  The Viper is okay, but I don't like his rifle and the left arm is lacking some range of motion in the elbow which is mostly due to a design problem.

I've seen at least one report of wave 5 showing up and seems to be coming after W6.  Wave 5 has the masked Cobra Trooper, Steel Brigade, Hawk, Blowtorch, Cobra Commander and Jungle BAT.  I'm looking forward to Hawk and Steel Brigade from that wave but I'm not sure if I'll pick up the Cobra Trooper or the others.

I've gotta watch for that wave for my brother too I guess.

If anyone winds up with an extra Lowlight, i'm interested in him.  I was really just into getting him if possible, from that last wave.

I'm going to have to watch for the Iron Grenadier too as I didn't know he was in that wave with Crazy Legs.  Don't know how I didn't know that.  Wish they pictured the figures in a wave on the cardback so I knew more what was out there...  I'm mostly trying to just help my brother out, rather than myself.  I never know what to look for though, haha.

Found a Hawk, Cobra Commander, and a couple of Cobra Troopers today.  The best part was they rang up for $3.50 each.  Must've been under the same clearance SKU as all the pre-reset Destros.  They're all great, but Hawk is particularly awesome.  Downside is that his case does not appear to be very durable.  Closing it one time whitened the plastic hinge pretty bad.  I don't expect that to last, which is unfortunate, because next to the Destro briefcase full of cash, it's the coolest accessory I've seen in a long time.

Finally found some of the new POC today, at Wal-Mart.  Grabbed the following:

Cobra Trooper x 2
Steel Brigade x 2
Cobra Commander x 1
Blowtorch x 1

I wanted to get these for my son's birthday, but that has passed.  For now, I'll given him the Blowtorch and Cobra Commander in a couple weeks when he's done something helpful around the house.

He's already got about a dozen of the 25th anniversary Cobra Troopers, so I don't know that he needs these two new version or not, plus he's very young so I don't know that he'd appreciate the upgrade on these.

For his birthday, he got the following Joe stuff:

- POC Deviant Walker
- POC Rock Viper
- ROC Night Raven
- ROC Ice Dagger
- ROC Dragonhawk
- 25th Serpentor w/ Air Chariot
- 25th F.L.A.K. Cannon vs. C.L.A.W.

I was saving the 25th Cobra Rattler for his birthday, but ended up giving him that about 6 weeks ago as a reward for participating in his school play.  I also caved in and gave him the 25th Cobra Fang last month too.  Yikes!

Also on a side note, I was at the Toyman Collector Show in STL last week and found an Indiana Jones Nazi Field Car for just 2 bucks... I gave it to him and he stuffed it with Cobra troopers and calls it his Cobra Field Car.  Awesome.

Sure, I have a couple of ideas!

1) Are there any plans to create some sort of HISS tank from the 1980s classic era that has working treads?  Basically, an all new sculpt, but of the old design scheme?  You could also give it an interchangeable top cannon - one that holds missiles, the other with the standard guns.

2) How about a new Tele-Viper of the old 1980s classic design, but with more modern sculpting/articulation?  It could come with a removable helmet/goggles too, perhaps with alternate gear.  Thoughts?

I wouldn't be surprised if these have been asked before, I don't know.

If your kid doesn't like them I'd be willing to give them a good home. :P I haven't seen Wave 5 in my area yet, and Wave 6 hasn't hit very hard. (Something like 1 case at some WMs)

I did order some Steel Brigades, 2 Cobras, and a BAT online, and they are AWESOME figures. I love the variety of accessories that each figure comes with. It's nice that the different heads, backpacks, and weapons included with the SB and BAT allow for figures to fill different "roles". I have one SB displayed as a heavy weapons/bazooka guy, another with the machine gun, and two others as riflemen. I'm looking forward to getting a few more BATs so I can have some displayed as damaged and undamaged, and some with arm attachments and others with the gatling guns.

Hasbro would be wise to repack the Steel Brigade and Cobra Troopers in the 30th Anniv. collection. At least they're on the right track with repacking the Viper.

Either they uncovered some old stock or my Walmart got a new case of POC Thursday.  There were four leftover figs on the pegs and if I'm right, they came from a case that had Skydive, Shadow Tracker and some army builders in it.  All that was left were Duke, Beachhead, Storm Shadow and Jungle Viper.

If I'm right I didn't miss out on anything but maybe an army builder or two.  Still, it's been so long between cases, it's depressing to think they got one case, sold through and now we may have to wait 2 more months for a restock.

Edit -> Just checked my notes and WM had their last new case of Joe figures on 5/23 when they got Wave 6 with the Iron Grenadier.  So, I guess it'll be about August 5th or so before we get more figs...

I may just buy the Beachhead feed the craving.

Well, I'm more than a little pissed at my local Walmart.  After the crappy day on HTS yesterday, I stopped at Walmart and after getting approximately 1 case each of the two newest waves of POC, a month apart, and skipping the Low-Light wave altogether, they had at least 2 cases on the pegs.  But they were all early wave stuff.

Alley Viper, Ultimate Snake Eyes, Snake Eyes w/ Timber, Jungle Duke, Dusty, Recondo, Snow Job, Storm Shadow, Beachhead, Firefly...maybe something else I'm forgetting.

What I want to know is where the hell did this crap come from and why did they never get wave 5 (Hawk, Steel Brigade, etc) or only 1 case of Wave 6 (Crazy Legs, Croc Master, IG)?  Anyone else seeing this at Walmart?

Target hasn't had anything new since they got one cardboard shelf display of the SE/Duke/Shocktrooper/Storm Shadow wave way back in January.  I'm hoping for something to come down the line when they do their reset this week, but I'm not holding my breath.  I screwed up on W5 because, unlike W4 (Shadow Tracker, Skydive, LL, Destro) which I ordered online, I took my chances at retail and missed.

A similar thing happened at my local WMs, E.  We got several cases (over a period of about 3 weeks) of the wave 5 figures (Cobra Trooper, Blowtorch, Hawk, etc), and they sold out quickly (with the exception of Blowtorch).  When the WMs restocked, it was with cases of either w1 (Beachhead, Snow Job, etc) or w2 (Recondo, Jungle Viper).  Which, sadly, meant there were even more Arctic Destros than before.

I did, however, luck out at Target earlier this week, just prior to their reset, and got the 4 figures from w6 I wanted (first time I'd seen those at all).  When I got to the register, they didn't ring up, so they sold them to me for 3.99 apiece, which thrilled me to no end.  Kind of disappointed in the Rock Viper, but the others were pretty cool.  Now, if I could just find that Money Bag Destro figure, I'd be done with the POC stuff completely.

Well, I just went on a toy run out of town and hit a TRU, Target, WM and KMart that I only get to every couple of months.

TRU, Target and WM were a bust for Joe figures but I scored some more wave 6 figures at KMart.  They had 2 each of the Iron Grenadier and Rock Viper and one each Crazy Legs, Croc Master and Viper.  I also found a Beachhead and Firefly that I'm pretty sure where there last time I stopped which was a few months ago.  Oddly enough, of the W6 figures, there were no Temple Guardian SE figs and only 1 of the Vipers was missing.

I checked the entire store and didn't find the missing figs so I'm assuming they sold.  The figures were on two different end caps hanging on bare peg hooks with no price tags or anything.  It was kind of wierd.  But, I happily snagged the IG and Viper figs.

The Target I stopped in has 9 Arctic Destro figures on the pegs along with two others.  One is a tornado kick SE and I didn't pay attention to the other.  That's actually great news for that store since they had 11 Destro figs on 6/26.  ::) They did have the Skystriker, though.

WM had exactly one Joe figure, wave 3 Duke, and that was it.  The TRU I stopped in had at least 8 wave 3 Duke figures...a whole peg full.  It's pretty ridiculous.

Found Wave 6 today at Target. Full case when I walked in, I almost grabbed both Iron Grenadiers but settled on both Vipers instead.  They weren't in the computer but the peg price was raised to $7.99.

This is the first new stock at Target since they had some wave 3 back in January.  Hopefully these sell through and that elusive Wave 5 drops in, I'd like a few figures from that and haven't been able to talk myself into buying online.

My store stocked up with two new cases of Skystrikers today.  I think we moved one from the first case and we'd had one on the shelf since then, today the shelf was full.

Surprisingly enough, the 12" figures have been selling well.  Well, except for the para set which is about $10 more than the others IIRC.

Unfortunately I stopped in Walmart again last night to investigate the new aisle set further and found that my store is not carrying either of the vehicle lines.  So, again, no VAMP for me from that store.  And no Skystriker, which I don't care as much about since Target has them.  They were just my last hope for locally finding that midsize vehicle series.  Hopefully I'll spot them when I'm on the road somewhere, or they'll show up during one of my infrequent weekend toy runs out of town.

I see Joes are on sale for $6.99 from 09/11 - 09/24 at Target.  Haven't looked at the actual tag in some time, but had no clue they were charging $8.39.  Good time to army build those Destros kids!

Saw the 30th Stalker and Cobra trooper at Wal-Mart. They scanned as "see associate..." there wasn't even a spot for GI JOE items in the store, either.

Hate to ask again, but does anyone have an extra Low Light?  I've got the Cobra Shadow Tracker guy, would love to trade, but I'll buy too if anyone has one.  I never saw that wave except the ShadowTracker I picked up.

Sorry - I've never even seen Low Light at retail and frankly collecting this line is um...not the same as it was in years past.

not a huge find but i did score the gi joe mech suit @ Ross on Friday for $7.99.  no sign of any other Joe stuff tho.  I'm still holding out hope that some of the stock pulls from Target/Walmart will end up at Ross and the likes.

Picked up a ton of stuff for my bro the last couple days at Target...  Got Renegades Duke/Firefly tonight, Hazard Viper, an extra Cobra Trooper...

Picked up Stalker the other day too...

Great figures, each and every one.  Got a Duke and Firefly for myself too, and both are outstanding.  That'll be my only Duke I have on my desk, and I buy every Firefly because he was my favorite baddie.

Great figuers though.  Renegades Duke = awesome custom fodder figure if you're into customizing Joes.

I just got two HISS Attack Scouts at Ross. Weird looking, but I had no idea these even existed.

They almost didn't.  They were basically cancelled along with the Cycle Armor/Ashiko set.  Then they showed in Canada and now, finally, at Ross.

Shameless plug: if anyone finds extras of those Cycle Armors and HISS Scouts at Ross I am looking for one of each vehicle, so please keep me in mind. I'll definitely make it worth your while.

If you have one locally, Gordmans is also getting the HISS Scout and Cycle Armor wave of vehicles. Mine of course did not, opting to get a ****load of MARS trooper 3-packs, but hey, another option. And if you should find an extra set, don't forget your old buddy i_i.  :)

Saw a Crimson HISS at TJMaxx over the weekend for $16.99.  Thinking of picking up another and try my hand at painting one black.  Probably never going to see one with the working treads at retail again for under $30.  Bought a few silver metallic Sharpies last week and man there's a lot of nice details you can bring out on a toy with one of those.  First time "customizing" a toy.   :D

Yes they had the SW sled thing too....

I guess the mini hiss and mech cycle are showing up at some place called Ollies and Gordmans.  I have a gordmans right down the street from me actually so going to take a peek.

Thanks for the heads-up.  They just opened an Ollie's here about a month ago and I stopped in today and found both sets you mentioned, iFett.  $12.99 each and they had two of each on the shelf.  They're the multilingual boxes, the file cards are in 2 or 3 languages.

Scored x2 Hawks tonight at a Walgreens in the "ghetto" pretty cool.  Most Walgreens in my area have only a Duke or nothing so was pleasantly surprised as I only saw this wave once or maybe twice at normal retail.

Ok Smash, finally got to the box (we have been moving and finally got to that box).  The Stormshadow in that box was  the POC one, not renegades.  I will check with the local guys.  Renegades hit pretty good around here at all the Drug Stores.
