The Prequel Trilogy / Re: Spanish Magazine Scan: Death Star
« on: April 13, 2005, 08:55 PM »
We have to acknowledge, I think, that construction on this DS is not really at a slow pace at all.

Just look at it, it's got it's big gun already in place, the central core, the trenches are complete, it's skeletal outer shape is there, and that in what, 2-2.5 years?

That seems rather fast in my book. I doubt they take a back-burner for the next 20 years.

Also remember, they're churning out all that hardware we see in the OT as well during construction of this DS.

And, just to toss in an idea, who says this isn't the Death Star of ROTJ instead of the one in ANH?

We all asume this is the first, but...is it?

[EDIT]On second thought, there's too much complete on those upper and lower halves that were not there in the ROTJ DS, so probably this is the first from ANH.

Still, would've steered the discussion in a whole new direction... ;D

I've got bittirrent but now how or where do I find the files? Or can someone who has it send it to me??

You've got to go to site that have torrent-searches. It's not the easiest sharing program, as you've got to visit sites and hope to find that what you're looking for, and then... the DL has to work as well.

Over at MF.forums are posts of all tracks in zip or rar format.

On the soundtrack, I'm a bit dissappointed at the lack of the Imperial March.

I was hoping that with the whole rise of the Empire and Anakin turning into Vader, it'd feature more prominently a-la the first released TESB soundtrack.

Hoping the movie has it more.

I'm not decided on what I think about it, some pieces sound a bit haphazard as if JW wanted to mix OT with PT and something new to create the merger between old and new.

I also don't like DOTF, as I think it's too obvious a piece of music to really work as a piece of a score. It works better as a standalone piece, like To the stars or what's it called from AOTC.

It's also not versatile as other motifs from the OT are, Force Theme, Leia's Theme, Imperial March etc.

Especially the last one is one that is used in so many different guises, it must rank as one of the most diverse pieces of music ever written.

It's also almost as if either JW or GL or them both wanted to have ROTS hark as much as possible back to TESB, with what sounds like 1-to-1 copies of music from the Bespin Duel during Anakin versus Obi-Wan.

And that is just plain TOO easy and TOO cheap.

Add to that the end credits, which seems like a complete "Remember way back in 1977 did you like Star Wars well here it is all again, wallow in it" rhapsody.

There are very nice points too in the score, the new pieces really convey what the movie is about at those moments, although still, we've yet to see them work and fit so it can all be better yet.

It's a bit like Spielberg asking Williams to make a sort of up-tempo version of the Jaws theme to add to when the T-Rex appears in Jurassic Park. Too easy.

Hello.

I've signed up here yesterday after my account at RS was suspended due to not wanting to get spam.

Anyway, don't think I came over here as this is the next best thing, sure hope it doesn't look that way.

There are those who know me from over there, but for those that don't...

I am Herbert Ackermans, live in the Netherlands and am 32. I've been a fan of SW since roughly when ROTJ was released. I did see all the originals in the theater that time.

I got a few of the Kenner toys in 83-84, but only started collecting in 2001. Since then, I've acheived a full loose run of the Vintage figures with some variants accounted for, but looking for others and to upgrade some.

I'm looking forward to enjoying my stay here.

I myself wonder wether or not Vader can use Lightning. He can use the Force on his hands, as we see in TESB where he stopped the laserblasts from Han.

So, to me, that means that he can still use the Force with his hands, them being bionical or not.

Yoda said:"The Force is everywhere."

But ever since TPM, there is this belief that "The Force is only there in your own body". I'm not convinced that is true.

The thing is, we don't see Vader do much Force-things. He chokes a few people, he walked to that broken window in Cloud City that sucked Luke out.

Beyond that, in the movies, nothing. I consider wielding a lightsabre not part of using the Force. Perhaps being able to foresee your opponent's moves.

The fact Vader could repel the shots from Han indicates that his hands can withstand high intensity rays, I think.

Also, what is Sith Lightning? I think it starts at the tip of your fingers, and isn't generated inside your arms, because then too, Sidious would buy it using it, as would any Sith.

Further, I think Vader died not from the Lightning bombardment alone, but he was exhausted as well.

Once Luke cut his hand, we hear Vader breathing very, very difficult. He has lots of trouble getting to his feet, and kind of staggers over to the Emperor. When he gets next to him, you can see him panting, his whole body is convulsing while trying to get the air in.

Lifting the Emperor, getting the hail of lightning, might have wrecked his body beyond recovery.

But, contrary to popular belief, his breathing aparatus still works, you can hear it.

As Luke lifts Vader's back up, you can hear that the breathing gets more comfortable, returning to alsmost normal.

Then, cut to the shuttle bay.

Vader is walking, assisted by Luke, and then simply breaks down to his feet out of sheer exhaustion. If his bionical gear would've been so damaged, including his artificial lungs, Vader would never have made it that far. Remember, the Emperor's throne room is in that tower we see Tie-Interceptors fly past. The hangar bays are in either the equatorial trench, or the 2 others north and south of that.

Even the shortest route is still quite a distance.

Vader made it to "a" hangar, not necessarily the same he arrived in at the start of ROTJ, but still, he went a long way.

All that combined, the pain from the lightning, being exhausted by the duel and the long walk to the hangar, that I belief is what killed Vader.

So, we now have to wonder why Anakin didn't die after getting his limbs cut and falling into a volcano and resting next to a lava-stream, causing him to almost fully burst into flames.

There is something about (fan)-sites with forums that, once they start to grow, they in time reach a point where they start to crumble and buckle under their own weight.

Either that weight is actual bandwidth and traffic, or that it is that the site becomes something of an establishment, both seem to have negative effects on the creator/owner of the site.

I've sait it over at RS and I keep quoting Uncle Ben:
"With great power comes great responsibility"

In effect, being a forum-moderator is almost Godlike, as a mod has supreme power over even what people are allowed to say, and can "kill" (ban)  a member in that community.

The sheer fact PW is so oblivious to what he is doing, and the impression we have here now that he prefers morons over intelligence, fits this category.

Many times, people in command of such forums/sites, prefer the easy, numb, following herd of sheep over the few that actually have and voice their opinions.

A site is not your own little world where you can rule your own rules and ignore common decency and real world laws, morals and values.

As others have said, RS isn't going to sink due to this, as there's oodles of morons signing up daily.

But, like the Titanic, RS seems to be on course for disaster, and the cause is lack of respect and overconfidence on one's own.

Looks like all of the threads asking all those questions were just deleted and the final terms of the deal are:  Accept our spam as is or get the hell out - and don't bother asking questions, they won't be answered.

Yep, pretty much sums it up. Can anyone tell wether or not a site can enforce spam upon you as the only means to use that site/forum?

Sounds pretty absurd to me.

Also, how come that in all those years, you never ever got any of those spam-mails? Doesn't seem like RS needs them than, does it.

Anyway, I just don't care anymore.
