Watto's Junk Yard / Anyone know the value of this Beatles album?
« on: February 8, 2005, 08:54 PM »
A friend of my dad's bought him the Beatle's Rubber Soul vinyl back in the mid 60's, I've looked for any sort of clue as to the value of this thing, but I can't find too much info on it, really. The cool thing about this vinyl is that 1) the number of typos all over the front/back cover, and 2) the vinyl is orange.
I think it was made in Tawaain, although it was purchased in Japan.

Here's a picture I found online of the cover...

Except on my dad's, the red sign (to the right of the Beatles) has writing on it: 'Large VWorld Records', which I'm guessing is some sort of typo from the logo on the top right of the album 'Lager Records'... To the top left is a code, "LW127".

Here's the back...

I found this picture of the vinyl itself on the internet - my dad's has a black label instead of blue.

Here's what the label looks like...

I'd really like to know if this is a bootlegg, where this comes from, and how much its worth.

If anyone could help, that'd be great.

Fan Art / Twilight Zone Comic Artwork - Ink
« on: December 10, 2004, 07:05 PM »
Here's a some recent art of mine, a comic adaptation of the Twilight Zone episode 'The Invaders'... I re-designed the Invaders to look a tad less corny - gave them backpacks and rifles with flashlights at the ends... Anyway, this is all inked and airbrushed minus the moon (which I dropped in using Adobe - but at least it's a pic of the moon that I took myself) - the peice is appx. 17x22, so in-person it's a whole lot nicer to look at. Alot darker, too.

By the way, there's a seam down the center because I had to scan this 4 or 5 times and plate them all together... My scanner is only 8.5x11.

Toy Reviews / Cloud Car Pilot Review
« on: October 15, 2004, 09:48 AM »
Mom snagged this and Spirit Obi-Wan for me...

Appearance: Very nice sculpt here. He isn't spread-eagle or top-heavy, so he stands straight and doesn't have to lean forward to keep from falling. I hate that the holster is so big, but it's quite alright. Nice paint.
Score: 9/10

Articluation: 12 points, I do believe. I was pissed to see there was no elbow articulation. That's a no brainer. Very happy to see wrists, knees, and ankles articulated, though.
Score: 8/10

Pose-ability: Any figure with the ability to sit down is going to have an automatic 6 or so. The lack of articulated elbows, and no ball joints, mean he won't get a perfect grade though.
Score: 7/10

Accessory: Removable helmet, which is sweet - a gun, which fits into the figure's holster - and a radio thing, which pegs into the figure's belt. Good stuff, can't think of anything else you'd want.
Score: 10/10

Overall: A very nice figure, I just wish the elbows were articulated! The fact that his knees are articulated is a good hint that it isn't out of the question that we'll get a Cloud Car to match, soon. Great figure - worth $4.77? Definately.
Score: 9/10

Fan Art / Inked Cabin
« on: September 25, 2004, 03:17 PM »
Thoughts?

Here's a inked cabin at sunset that I've been working on for a week or two. I'm not happy with the figure's silouette so I'll go back and touch that up some - and I'll also add a few stars in the sky. This took me a pretty long time, and I know it's nowhere near as good as you guys' ink work... But I'm pleased with it.

This will be the opening page for the Twilight Zone comic I've been working on. Off to a good, slow start.

Oh, and for the record - I used Sharpes, India Inked brushes, an airbrush, and white prisma color (for the chimney smoke). I'll be using white acrylic for the stars, I believe.

If it's somewhat blurry in a few spots, that's because I had to scan it a few times - it's larger than my scanner.

The Wookiee Arcade / JediDefender Battlefront/Commando Clan
« on: August 22, 2004, 08:57 PM »
Okay I've been putting a bit of thought into the JediDefender clan and decided that we need to kick things in gear and start working on naming the clan and setting up our command structure up before the games go gold.

Membership Requirements :
The JD clan will be open to everyone in JediDefender and also anyone else that we meet along the way in-game. The only requirement is that you must have one of the games and you must be a registered member at the JediDefender forums.

Which game to buy :
The JD clan is open to people who play either Battlefront and/or Commando! We'll probably have members of the clan playing in both games, and people who play one game but not the other - but that's not a problem, we'll just need to nominate one leader and one co-leader in each game/console. So wether or not you play Battlefront or Commando - you can still be a member.

Which one should you buy? Well, Battlefront seems to be a better multi-player game at the moment, but Commando isn't looking too shabby either. I'll probably end up getting Commando because I prefer smaller scaled squad-based games. Battlefront looks to be a more epic-proportioned game - which is fine - unless you a 56k/laptop like me.  :P

How the Clan will be structured :
I suggest we go with a military ranking structure particular to whatever side we choose to represent (Empire or Alliance). I also suggest that the players' ranks be determined by both the members' playtime and the members' skill in-game.

Nominating Leaders :
Once we are certain who all will be playing, we will be able to nominate and elect one leader and one co-leader to represent the clan in each game. If we're a large enough group we'll probably expand our ranks to include a Clan staff - but I doubt we'll have those kinds of numbers necesarry. Right now it looks like we'll have a platoon-size or smaller group playing each game.

Naming the Clan :
Naming the clan is the fun part. Everybody go ahead and suggest some names for both the Alliance and the Empire - and eventually we will decide on which affiliation and which name we'll all go by. When we all (or at least a majority) agree on a name and an abbreviated tag (to wear in-game), we will all wear the tag and we'll have ourselves an official clan.

Example of an in-game abbreviated tag -

[TAG]Gen.ChrisBerry

Fill out this application please!

This will help me organize things, so answer to the best of your ability - if you've got any questions or suggestions just PM me or send me a shout through either AIM (AnAngryEwok) or Yahoo Messenger (WhiteCrowMVP) or MSN (AnAngryEwok@Hotmail.com).

  • Which game you'll be buying (Battlefront, Commando, Uncertain, or Both) :
  • The name you plan to go by in-game :
  • Which side you'd like to play for (Alliance or Empire) :
  • Suggest an Alliance clan name(s) (include the abbreviated tag) and give canon or EU background info on the unit :
  • Suggest an Empire clan name(s) (include the abbreviated tag) and give canon or EU background info on the unit :
Here is our roster as it stands!

Other Toy Lines / McFarlane : Jimi Hendrix @ Monterey Pop Festival
« on: August 6, 2004, 03:02 AM »
Monterey Pop Festival, 1967 : Jimi Hendrix torches his guitar!

After a strong performance at the Monterey Pop Festival, Hendrix ended his performance by spraying lighter fluid all over his Fender Stratocaster and setting it ablaze. He put on quite a show, raising the burning instrument above his head, then dropping to his knees to... well... worship the guitar gods or something. I read somewhere that Hendrix claimed to have had something of a love/hate relationship with his guitars... Whatever the reasoning behind it all (I'm guessing the acid may have something to do with it), hate never looked so cool.

Click here for all of the details of the toy itself, although not much is said just yet... it's slated for an October '04 release - thank god for McFarlane... I'm loving these Hendrix figures!

I finally got around to buying a website to host some of my artwork. Features will include News & Updates, an online portfolio, and the standard Short Bio and Commission & Contact Info and links... Very excited about this! I'm using the JediDefender navy-blue and gold, with an added bit of white, and black. Here's the banner I've designed, whatcha think?

Fan Art / New sketchpad - 3 images.
« on: June 22, 2004, 09:30 PM »
I bought a 9x6 sketchpad for keeping at my bedside, but I ended up stuffing it in my backpack for Math class and etc. These are the first 3 pages of the sketchpad, the artwork gradually gets worse as I ran out of steam - but - that I felt like the first 3 pages were worth sharing.

I put the text on the first page using photoshop - that's the only thing I did to any of the art. Other than that, it's all free-hand. Page one and three are pencil, two is a mix of sharpee and india ink - which is something I've only recently begun experimenting with. I tried to get a very subtle image of a crow in there, but it didn't quite work out the way I wanted it to.

Other Toy Lines / 'The Crow' Action Figures / Collectibles
« on: June 21, 2004, 12:02 AM »
NECA is doing three things for 'The Crow'... First we have a 2 figure set, retailed about $30 I guess - It's Eric Draven before/after - eyeballing himself in the mirror. Neat concept, I may pick this up, not sure. Much of it will depend on the paint job once I see it.

Second thing is a 18" Crow figure with motion activated sound and 12 points of articulation. I'm not a huge fan toys with movie-sounds, but it's a good sculpt, so, who knows, if I see this before I see the 2-pack, I may get this instead. By the way it has 5 phrases from the movie, NECA doesn't list what they are.

Last, we've got a 15" cold cast resin statue of Crow from, once again, NECA. This is practically the same as the 18" figurine. This is limited to 10k pieces.

Fan Art / Signed James O'Barr print...
« on: June 6, 2004, 04:24 PM »
Here's an (from what I know) untitled print I just purchased - it's signed by James O'Barr, creator of 'The Crow'... I was walking through the mall when I saw this propped against the backside of a booth about 100 yards away... Caught my eye and so I approached it and bought it on the spot. Couldn't resist.

Beautiful piece. Signed, dated 1994 (when 'Crow' came out), and numbered 434/500... After 10 years I would suspect most of these are now off of the market. Which is a shame, from the viewpoint of an artist, yet a good thing, as far as the investment itself is concerned.

Anyway, what do you guys think of this? I know a few of you like the dark black and white gritty-style like I do... I also know a few of you will probably hate this. I'm in love with it though.

Watto's Junk Yard / Rant - Idiot at Circuit City
« on: May 5, 2004, 02:49 PM »
I'm not a good storyteller, sorry, but dig this...

Last night I was emptying out my wallet, when I found an old Circuit City gift card a friend gave me for graduation. I remembered using it once to pick up the Alien 2-disc DVD. I checked the balance - I had $16 and change remaining on the card, and apparently Circuit City takes out $2 every month just because they are nazis. 'Bastards,' I say to myself before I go to bed.

So today I went to Circuit City and decided I'd get the Aliens DVD to go with my Alien DVD. It was roughly $20, so I expected to empty out the gift card and pay maybe $5 extra.

It should have been really easy. Me give the lady the gift card, she tells me how much else I owe her. I pay her. I leave happy.

But that'd been too easy.

I hand her the card, I say, 'It should have about $16 on it, so I'll have to pay some cash, too.'

She says, 'Okay,' takes the card, and says "Yes, it has $16 on it." I'm thinking to myself, 'Thankyou, I'm aware of that.'

She then fiddles with the card and the computer, then tells me how much I owe her, roughly $6 - I pay her - she asks 'Would you like to keep the card or just throw it away?'

Then I kind of laugh and say 'Well I don't need any extra junk in my wallet,' afterall, what the hell would I want to keep an empty gift card for? Memories?

She says 'Well, it has 2 dollas and twenty-one cent on it,' to which I reply, 'Umm... What?' Yes, she did not empty out my card, instead only deducted $16 from it. So now she asks if I want to throw away the card that she left $2.21 on it.

I say, 'Well I didn't want you to take out $16... I just wanted to empty this thing out so I can get rid of it. I don't want a card with $2 on it. Can you just give me the $2.21?' She says, 'I'm new here, so I dont know how to do that and even if I did I don't know if I can.'

I frown, and realize I better get someone else to help, 'Okay I'll go to customer service then.'

I take the card with exactly $2.21, I take my reciept and the Aliens 2 disc DVD. I then wait in line. When it's finally my turn, this attractive young lady asks 'How can I help you?' I say, 'This cost a little over $20. This card had a little over $16 on it. I wanted to empty this card and pay the rest in cash. However, the lady over there deducted exactly $16 from my card, leaving only $2.21 on it, and I had to pay $5 in cash when I could have just given her a few dollars. I'd really like to have my $2.21 back.'

She takes the card, walks away.

Fast forward 5 minutes of me standing quietly.

She finds some guy working for the store, speaks to him, he shakes his head 'No,' I'm thinking he's saying, 'No we are not going to give this guy his $2.21.' Maybe even, 'No, I'm not doing anything - I'm just fiddling around with the speakers here on display.'

Anyway, fast forward another 5 minutes and some guy wearing a BLACK outfit (as opposed to the Circuit City red) comes up to the register and he's like, "Yea, give him his $2.21."

I smile, 'Yea! I get my money!'

So she gives me exactly $2.21 and says, 'Sorry for the trouble.'

Alright, end of story. To some of you guys $2.21 may seem like petty money to have to go through so much crap through - but god damn - these Circuit City nazi's had taken $2 a month from my account for who knows how long, then want to leave $2 on the card so they can take that, too?

Grr.

Modern Classifieds / WTB - Star Wars Comics - Empire
« on: May 5, 2004, 10:57 AM »
Hopefully someone can help!

None of the stores out here seem to have the latest Empire comics - I need Part 1 and Part 2 of the 3 part 'Last Man Standing' storyline that is out in stores right now. It's got the Amanamanamans fighting the Stormtroopers. I've got Part 3, but I need the first two so that I can read them in order, so if someone could pick these two up for me or send me their used comics that'd be great.

Thanks!

Edit - my girlfriend found them for me. Nevermind.
