Title: ACME Character Keys
Post by: Holographic Elvis on July 16, 2006, 04:33 PM
Well I couldn't find a thread on these, so forgive me if there is one (the search didn't produce one.)  Who all collects these?  I myself have Padme, Mace, ARC Trooper and Obi-Wan (my most recent purchase.)

ACME will have the Anakin Skywalker and Darth Sidious keys available at Comic Con.
Anakin is limited to a thousand pieces and you can purchase a max of 3 at Comic Con.  He'll be available on www.acmearchivesdirect.com after Comic Con as well.
Darth Sidious, on the other hand, is limited to 500 pieces and will be 1 per attendee at the Con.  50 will go onsale on ACME's website tomorrow at 10am for those not attending.  I see this piece reaching the $200 plateau as soon as Comic Con is over.  It's the most limited key thus far.

I have a few, Grievous was the first one then Padme & shortly I will have the ARC Trooper. I would love to get Sidious but I will have no access to the PC tomorrow.  :'(

Yeah, prices on these sure are climbing. Yoda is far out of reach.  :-\

I haven't picked any of these up myself but I've only come to realize them about a month ago when I saw the Arc Trooper. Though it was cool but didn't preorder it. Now that I'm seeing them around a little more they've become more appealing. I'll have to see one in person to know for sure but I very well may get into this line.

Well, the Sidious key sold out in less than 1 minute.  After reading the thread on Scum about this key, it appears that everyone actually had it in their cart only to lose it at the credit card info screen.  People are furious.  This is right up there with the Blackhole Stormie bust.

I was just reading about this myself. I wonder how it will go down at CC. They'll probably sell out in the first night if they don't allocate per day. This might be a booth that has to be hit first going in on preview night.

The ACME rep who posts on Scum said they'd have SOME available each day.  But ACME's booth is my first stop on preview night.

Now that I have the GG busts preordered ACME is going to be my first stop too.  If they allocate per day that only leave 90 to sell per day  :o.

You know what's funny is there was no one at the booth last year.  Who knew these would be so hot.

Jamie and I couldn't even find their booth.  I heard no mention of Yoda at C3 and now BOOM, these things are huge.  It's crazy.  Sidious is gonna be a pain to get and I'm sure Anakin will be sold out very quickly after the Con.

Picked up 2 low-numbered Anakin keys at Comic-con on preview night (the Sidious keys were gone by the time I got to the ACME booth at 6:05PM).

This morning I got in line at 7AM, waited for the doors to open at 10AM and ran straight to the ACME Booth. There was already a line of people there. Managed to score a Holo Sidious key. Have a complete collection of keys -  they are cool and are exploding in popularity.

I managed to pick up an Anakin and Sidious key as well. ACME's booth was the first place I hit on preview night and got it fairly easily. I was probably one of the first 120 into the convention so that helped.

That Sidious key was a tough grab. It is pretty damn cool - it's a shame that we are among the few collectors that were able to obtain one. Scalpers have been having a field day with this piece.

Well I'm glad we all scored a Sidious.  Jamie just barely got one on Thursday (he was number 99 of 100.)  It's a killer piece and just looks so much different than the other keys.  I was extra fortunate to score 2 Sidious keys thanks to Jared and the generosity of one of my close local friends.  I'm hoping to trade that straight up for a Yoda.  Anyone grab multiple Anakin keys?  I grabbed my max of 3 in hopes of turning 1 (or both) into a Grievous key at some point.

Anyone grab multiple Anakin keys?

I had come back from the Con on Friday without grabbing an extra. After thinking about it I thought it might make a good trade bait key so I called up Anthony and he was gracious enough to grab an extra for me (thanks again, Anthony! ;D). I hope I can trade for one of the higher end keys as well.

Those do look great, very nice pic - and thanks for sharing.  I'm in the same boat as Brent, if I had been in from the start I would have collected these too.  I kind of wish I would have, to be honest.

I got outbid in the final minute for both a Yoda and Grievous in the last two days.  The prices on those 2 are really starting to make me wonder if I'll ever own them because I can't stomach paying what they are going for.  I bid pretty damn high and still lost at the last moment.  That's a bad omen.

Nice collection you've got going, Jamie. I'm really on the fence about these too. I already have my hands in so many pots as it is and having to go back and get the keys I'm missing is a real downer. Especially since the secondary market is commanding a combined $650+ for all the keys I would need to complete the set. :-X

They sure do look purdy though-

I broke down and ordered the two from Starwarsshop.com. At least I will have  a couple, and they are nice looking group shots from the cartoons. 180.00, but at an edition size of 500, they feel like a fairly safe bet.

Thanks all, luckily I've been in on this line since nearly the beginning, missing only the Yoda when it was originally offered. I still kick myself for not knowing about the Yoda at C3 since I was there, but at least I have it now.

I don't know why I did it as I know I'm opening up a huge can of worms, but I placed an order for Dooku.  I'd like to have them all but that's almost impossible.  Maybe I'll track down some of the more common ones and be content with that.

Shaak Ti (http://threads.rebelscum.com/showflat.php?Cat=&Number=2161922&page=0&view=collapsed&sb=5&o=&fpart=1#2161922) is the next character key.

Wow! That was shipping from SideShow, my Dooku Key arrived today plus I got a $10. gift card.  8)

On the front page of Yodasnews.com about the Asajj key:

The key's will go on sale Friday, September 29th at 1pm EST. There will be a strict limit of 3 keys per person. The price will be $30 per key, plus shipping. In order to streamline the ordering process there will be 3 distinct United States purchase options, which will each include shipping (Fully insured USPS Priority Mail with delivery confirmation / tracking).

The 3 options will be for (1) One Key, (2) Two Keys, or (3) Three Character Keys. Razor's Edge will be taking payment in full for these on Friday since they are scheduled to arrive within 2 weeks of the sale date. For those of you who ordered the ARC from Razor's Edge in the past will be glad to know, these Keys will also ship in the same Indestrocto Boxes that the ARC Keys did. There will also be a Fourth ordering option for those of you who live outside the United States.

Thanks for that big heads up.  :)

Hmm I still trying to decide if I like these. They are cool peices but they are a bit small, the other thing is that they arent in demand any more. I started collecting them so that I could have something that was "rare" in my collection since mostly i just have action figures, and now it takes them a long time to sell out.

ACME Archives character keys are the Star Wars collectible right now.  I know the earlier keys (Yoda, Grievous, Obi-Wan) command a premium price, but I can't help but think these bad boys have all the qualities that will make them continue to have high demand, and therefore, rising prices.  The newer keys are on the cheap currently and it's my educated opinion that wise collectors would buy several and hold on for a few years.  I just can't see them going anywhere but up.  And just because an item doesn't sell out in a few days/weeks doesn't mean they're no longer a hot item.  I see this as a minor blip on the screen, a position to be taken advantage of.  Don't follow the mindset of the masses.  Be smart, and buy weakness in quality items from quality companies.

Have you made any progress backtracking Mikey?  I've been watching them on ebay, but Padme, ARC and Sidious are all running about $100.  Should have paid attention before ::)
Title: Re: ACME character keys
Post by: Mikey D on November 10, 2006, 03:12 PM
Decent luck backtracking, Brent.  Still don't have the heavy hitters - Yoda, Sidious and Grievous - but I managed to grab Padme for about $65 shipped and the ARC for slightly more, which are decent deals IMO.  Still need the three aforementioned ones and Obi Wan and I'm caught up.  I'll probably go after an Obi Wan next and just wait and see what happens with the rest.
Title: Re: ACME character keys
Post by: Morgbug on November 10, 2006, 03:47 PM
I could probably live without Grievous.  Yoda could be a major issue and I really want Sidious. I've contemplated going only with baddies here, but then Grievous becomes an issue.

The prices for ARC/Padme are great, they've been well above of late.

Unsure at this time as with the date of release. According to Yoda's News (http://www.yodasnews.com/), the Fisto will include a $5 gift card just like the Dooku Key.

Sweet, guess I'll use my gift card.  ;D

Good deals, Brent, especially on that ARC (even with the high shipping cost).  I lost out on his Obi Wan at the last minute, but I'm sure I'll get him eventually.  Prices on these are starting to drop a bit, even on the Yoda and Grievous.

I like the look of Kit.  Very unique.
Title: Re: ACME character keys
Post by: Morgbug on November 17, 2006, 09:59 AM
I was eyeing up that Obi too but I recalled what you were looking for, so I opted out.  I was kind of surprised that I got the ARC that low, my max bid was $55.  And the shipping ended up being cheaper than listed too, so I actually paid $53 total with insurance.

I was going to BIN Anakin at $39 last night, but the $32 one popped up quite nicely at just the right time.

The price drop has been noted, so we'll see how it goes.

If you start from the beginning, you should be ok.  It might be a bit tougher to get any convention exclusives (C4, SDCC) but finding someone to grab it for you shouldn't be too difficult.  Don't be like me and try to catch up on older stuff - I just paid over $100 for Sidious.  A G note for a piece of cardboard.   ::) It's tough having an addiction.

Leia isn't for sale yet, she's an exclusive to the NY Comic Con later this month but will also be on sale through Acme directly on the same date.  Edition size of 1000 pieces.

Technically, R2 and 3PO are part of the Clone Wars line (according to Morly, who works for Acme, over at scum).  Although they would fit in just as nicely with the OT ones.

Down to the three heavy hitters - Yoda, Grievous and Obi Wan - and I'll be caught up.  Yoda is going for mad money right now and I'll probably never have him.  I'm kind of hoping there's an OT Yoda coming.

I'm a big fan of the Clone Wars line--I have multiple copies of each (except Sidious).  I'm excited about this new line of animated takes on core characters of the Star Wars.  Does anyone know if this new line is going to be limited to OTC or will it expand into the prequels also?  Additionally, do you know of a retailer where I could obtain some frames appropriate to display these?  I tried contacting ACME Archives in an attempt to obtain there frames 'loose' without success.  Incidentally, if anyone is in need of any of the CW Keys, drop me a PM.

Title: Re: ACME character keys
Post by: gasman034 on April 4, 2007, 12:03 AM
It was an auction win on eBay.  It came along with a promo Padme maquette as a 'toss-in' bonus.  The ad mentioned that the key was an artist proof, but I presumed that information was referring to the maquette itself.  To my surprise and delight, both items were AP versions, not just the maquette.  Although I paid a small fortune, I feel I lucked out on this find.

I just checked the auction, looks good to me. I never heard of the AP key before but I have seen a character key cromalin proof sheet. The only info I can think of would come from GG themselves.

Maybe someone else has info on this. Pretty darn cool tho.  8)

I'm trying to decide what to do here.  It looks like SWShop has gotten some stock in of the Slave Leia, R2, and 3PO keys.  I can really only afford to get one, and I'm not sure which way to go.  I tried to order the Leia initially from ACME, but my computer was having issues and it didn't happen.  This way, I could at least attempt to have a complete set of the OT keys.  The question is, will there be an R2/3PO released in the OT line - or will these Clone Wars ones be the only versions?  I'd hate to have a collection of these without R2 and 3PO.

Since the R2 3PO sets state they are part of the Clone Wars line, I would suggest it is inevitable they will be done in the classic OT line. If I were in your situation, I would get the Leia key- if I remember correctly, the edition sizes on the droids is higher anyway, so you are more likely to be able to get these reasonably later on.

That's exactly what I ended up doing.  I figured with the Leia key, I at least have a shot at keeping "complete" with the OT line since I'm actually starting in from the beginning for once.  I'm hoping that the R2/3PO will be released later on in "OT style" anyways.  Those two do seem to still be in stock at SWShop, but there's been plenty of spending lately so I'll just stick with the one for now.  Now if the exclusives in this line don't get too impossible to pick up, or the releases don't get too overwhelming, hopefully I will be able to keep up.

Highly doubtful, unless they branch into PT keys.  Even then, I'd imagine they're a long ways away as Acme just started the OT keys. And there's only 2 CW keys left (for a total of 16) and since Qui Gon never appeared in the Clone Wars cartoon (other than that 5 second dream sequence with young Anakin), he's probably not one of them.  My guess is Durge and another Jedi (either the Muftak or Ithorian) are the final two.

News from Morly at RS on the C4 Tarkin key:

AMCE: Celebration IV Tarkin Exclusive - PRE-ORDER (http://threads.rebelscum.com/showflat.php?Cat=&Number=2553252&Main=2553246#Post2553252)

Quote
I don't have the full plan ready for you guys just yet, but here is the gist of it:

1. There will be a page set up strictly for this sale.

2. We will set aside two-hundred (200) keys to be sold to those fans that are unable to attend the convention. The non-attendee keys will not ship until June 1st and will have an additional shipping and handling fee of $3. If you are attending CIV, PLEASE do not take one of these 200 pieces out of the hands of someone unable to attend.

3. The remaining keys will be sold online before the convention begins. The pre-sold keys will be held and available for pickup at the convention anytime before noon on Monday, May 28th; after that time, they will be available to anyone at the convention. You will need your receipt/invoice to pick up your key and, again, the limit is one per person.

4. Any keys not pre-sold will be taken to the convention and sold to walk-up customers while supplies last.

No dates yet, but we're figuring them out. This at least gives everyone a general idea as to what we are planning (and, of course, none of this is set in stone just yet).

Thanks,
Morly

From Morly at RS on the Tarkin preorder:

Quote
OK, THIS IS IT, GUYS:

The 200 keys for NON-ATTENDEES will go on sale Tuesday, May 15th, at 10am, PST. Again, PLEASE do not buy one of these if you are going to the show. It's kind of a crappy thing to do since you have an opportunity to get one from a much larger pool of keys!

The pre-order for ATTENDEES to pick up their keys at the show will take place two days later, Thursday, May 17th, at 10am.

We have set up a new site to take care of all of this. The site can be found at the following address:

Character Key Website (http://characterkey.com)

Good luck to everyone!

Attendee Pre-Order Information

The Grand Moff Tarkin Character Key will be available for pre-order for customers attending Celebration IV. Attendee pre-orders can only be picked up at our booth (#404) and will not be shipped. Orders not picked up by 12 noon on Monday, May 24th will be canceled and offered to walk-up attendees on a first come, first serve basis. Please bring your order receipt with you when picking up. Celebration IV begins Thursday, May 24th and ends Monday, May 28th. We hope to see you there.

Non-Attendee Pre-Order Information

For our customers not attending Celebration IV, Acme will make available a quantity of 200 character keys for order online. These keys will not ship until June 1st.

There is a limit of one (1) piece per person - either Attendee or Non-Attendee. Please do not order from both pre-sales as we will be cross-referencing the lists in order to enforce the limit of one per person. Non-Attendee orders will not be available for pick up at our booth. There is an additional $3.00 shipping and handling flat fee for our Non-Attendee orders. Finally, PLEASE do not order one of the 200 Non-Attendee character keys if you are in fact going to attend Celebration IV. Thank you.

200 eh, this is going to go fast!  :-\

Ordered my Tarkin key through the non-attendees process.  Smooth as silk.  ;D

Likewise, that was a pleasant experience.

There was some humor though.  I figured I won't bother Jim/chuckles, I'll get it shipped to my home.  They're offering up USPS shipping so that's fine by me (usually).  Enter my correct information for home and the cheaper USPS shipping is $23.45  :o  Backed up a step in a mad panic expecting them to be gone, plunk in Jim's MN addy and paid $3 for FedEx shipping instead.  I can wait.

Clicking through after I finished my order you could still get one into the cart.

Could be somebody double ordered and they checked up on them?  I liked that they put in the caveat that you can only order once, either pre or attendee and they'll be cross-referencing.  It hurts the folks that are trying to help others out, but it will help annoy the re-sellers, so that's a plus.

I received my confirmation email as well, so that's just ducky.

Do we have any inkling of what the SDCC exclusive key is going to be (or if there even is one, which I presume will happen)?  I suspect it will be an OT version, but aren't we one or two short of completing the Clone Wars set?

If OT, perhaps a Vader?

From Morly on RS, next up is the Tie Fighter Pilot character key which will make it's debut at Celebration Europe & limited to 1000 pieces. This key is not an exclusive so you will be able to order online. Sounds like they will use the characterkey.com for the preorder & will likely start on July 9th. Stay tuned!  ;D

Looks nice, and great to hear it will be available online as well.  I really enjoy these, and like Brent mentioned, I've been surprised by the selection so far.  I mean, who would think we'd be three keys into the OT line and there would be no Luke, Vader, or Han yet.  That said, I hope they make a Luke, Vader, or Han soon :P.  Hopefully these will be easy enough to get, I've been lucky so far.

Faster than Tarkin, that's for sure.  It might be like that too, as they clean out shopping carts where people have multiples sitting.  If you didn't get it, I'd keep checking back as they randomly popped in and out for a couple of hours with Tarkin.

FedEx dropped off the TIE Pilot character key today, looks pretty nice.  I'm really enjoying this line, and so far, it hasn't been too difficult/expensive to keep up, which is nice.  I know I'm probably in the minority, but I wouldn't mind seeing some of the main characters soon - Han, Chewie, Luke, and Vader in particular.

The Tie Pilot key was offered up by Acme Direct back on July 9th and I reckon that's the end of the story there.  I'm guessing there weren't too many left over from the original event and whatever they held back sold out pretty quick.  I think you're probably looking at the secondary market for that one now.

That's unfortunate from the collection standpoint Brian, but a wise choice.  I can't count the number of things I missed because of my daughter.  Yes, I regret missing out but I wouldn't have changed anything to get them.  I still collect, but no way am I going to fart around online when my daughter still has some interest in hanging out with me.

I checked out Michaels craft store today for frames & out of all they had I found a 6x8 floating frame which was perfect. It was only thing thing they had in that size & they sell for $13.49 plus tax so $14.30 each Canadian. I have to check out more places & see if I can find something else a bit cheaper, for what I need I would land up spending almost $200. for frames.

I placed my order this weekend as well, looking forward to this one.  I see it is still in stock as of this morning, which is kind of surprising for a "limited" Fett item.  I wonder if these are not quite as popular as they once were, or if people are still discovering it.  Not that they have all sold out instantly, but many have, and you would think Fett would be one that would.  Anyways, I'm happy they're making it, and I hope the rumored Obi and Han are on the way soon as well.

Prices on the secondary market have really dropped for every piece.  Some are still commanding significant dollars, but even the Yoda piece which I'd seen go for $300+ has gone for half of that now.  I think the heat is off these and truthfully I regret not buying the Durge on the secondary market.  That and several of the others.  I got Anakin, a show exclusive, for retail price, so hard to buy anything new.  The CW keys may climb again once the shows start up though.

I do think Fett will hold value on the secondary market, simply because it's Fett.

I'm not sure of if any etailers would have anything Hemish, may I suggest heading over to the RS Acme Archives: Classifieds  (http://threads.rebelscum.com/postlist.php?Cat=&Board=acmeclassified) section of the forum.

Tarkin was a CIV exclusive & toonsart.com (http://www.toonsart.com/shop.aspx?s=405) looks like they have the Tie Pilot key but it's 24.31GBP. Nothing at razorsedgecollectibles.com (http://www.razorsedgecollectibles.com/catalog/advanced_search_result.php?keywords=character+key).

Always eBay.  :-\

Boy that was quick Hemish, yeah keep an eye out for the Sandtrooper. You should be able to snag him for around the $25-$34. range.

On a good note today, I received my Durge key & all was good this time, #0889/1000.  :)

I still have not heard a ******* thing from SWS on my damaged Fett key, I will e-mail them again. If I get no reply soon, then I will call customer service at FedEx & have them return it & I will have SWS billed for the return. I talked with a FedEx driver at work & he said up here they have no call tag thingy so I will have SWS billed for the return.
Title: Re: ACME Character Keys
Post by: DSJ™ on October 25, 2007, 07:49 PM
Well customer service just sent me an e-mail, they will arrange for a replacement to ship out to me & will also send me a FedEx call tag to return the key & I can have it picked up at work. I was thinking about taking the key to Michaels & having it rematted & the metal plate reglued as they are not damaged, just the mat but I should not have to pay for that. I was just worried they would not have a replacement.  :-\

Will see how it goes when I reply back to them to make arrangements.

I use the 6x8 version of these:

Just get rid of the wood backer piece and fill the remaining gap between the key and the back glass piece with matboard (three pieces work for me) and you should be all set.  Michael's has them for about $8 each, but I usually wait until they go on sale and buy a bunch at a time.  Last sale was last week, 40% off.  I think I bought six - four the last four keys released and two extra.

Well for my damaged Fett key, I tried to set things up so I could have it shipped back where I work. I explained everything to customer service & just had to wait for a response, I received an e-mail from customer service on Monday.

Dear Customer,

Thank you for your e-mail. A replacement package has been sent under order #*********. Please allow up to 8 business days for delivery. Please discard the damaged merchandise. Please let us know if we can be of further assistance.

Discard! Yeah right!  :o   :o   :o   :o  Guess it was to much hassle to sent it back.

Today I had a pick up at FedEx & I was very happy to receive my replacement.   8)

Left at front door... WTF! I saw nothing when I came home so I ran to check & when I opened the door, there it was in between the screen door & the main door. Whew!

Man, that is the fastest shipping I have got from SWS. Transmitted to FedEx on Dec 10th at 10:17 AM & arrived just over 24 hrs later & in one piece.  :o  :o

Just curious, but has there any news of any more of these on the way?  I guess I'm thinking mainly of the OT keys.  Not that I need to spend more money right now, mind you, but I was just curious what the direction of the line was at this point.  We'll likely see the regular release of that Indy key around the time of the movie, I'm guessing?  I wonder how well the key line is doing in general now, it seems like its cooled a lot since the initial Clone Wars offerings.

I'm playing catch up on some character keys that I need, today I received the Obi-Wan Kenobi  (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=180221207259&ssPageName=STRK:MEWN:IT&ih=008) key for a pretty good price & to top it off it's a proof print #17PP.  ;D

I'm on the hunt for Yoda now, plus Mace & Shaak Ti.  :)

So hopefully all the waiting was worthwhile! Roron Corrob gets the call for the final CW key. As you can see in the image, we've not yet decided on the edition size (it might be a lowish one) and there is no pre-sale date yet, but it will be on sale and likely delivered before San Diego Comic-Con, so it shouldn't be TOO long!

More news on the Yoda key at the ACME Blog (http://acmelimited.com/news/).

Quote
It will be an edition of 750 pieces (  I know I know, but hey, it’s better than 500 for Sidious) and will retail for $35.00

As I am sure you are aware with the release of Roron Corobb, we have officially wrapped up the original Clone Wars line (fyi keep a look out for a very very special announcement about this line in the next couple weeks).  This YODA key marks the beginning of a new line of Character Keys for Acme, and I think you will agree that it should be another fun line to collect.

We wanted to start this line the same way our first character key line began, with Yoda, and as a Convention Exclusive.  The upside this time around is that it’s only 1 per customer.  And hey what’s the fun of collecting, if there aren’t a few that are really hard to get?!

We will be putting this one up for Presale to be be picked up at the Show, this should help alleviate the long lines as well as the annoying Exhibitors who like to pounce on exclusives before the regular crowd gets into the freaking show.  Try as they might, SDCC has still not figured out a 100% fool proof method of stopping this.

We will also be releasing a small amount to non attendees on July 24th, first Full Day of SDCC, so for all of you not going- keep that date in mind.

And my final last little tidbit of news…. We will be debuting another STAR WARS Character Key at the Con.

That final tidbit has me interested, I wonder what/who it will be?

I'm bailing on the original CW line and won't go after this line either.  I think I'll maintain the OT line, for now.  I love these little things, but I'm not certain I'll have the space for them.
Title: Re: ACME Character Keys
Post by: Mikey D on June 20, 2008, 07:39 AM
Yeah, I don't know.  I'm not really a fan of the new animated style.  I think I'm going to try to track down the three CW keys that I'm missing and just stick with the OT keys (and the occasional special key, like Indy).
Title: Re: ACME Character Keys
Post by: Thrawn on June 20, 2008, 09:08 AM
Well at least there is another key at the Con, hopefully it is an OT one.  But I am guessing an Indy one, maybe his Dad.

Nope, those were the only three I was still missing and it's just not worth it to me to drop another $300+ to complete the set.  I do really like these and think they look really neat, but they're somewhat difficult to display in a fashion I want to do it.  I'm not keen on getting 32 frames for both series either.  I'm ok with doing the OT stuff still because it will be a limited set and that's that.  Plus I'm probably flushing a lot of PT/CW stuff in the coming year.

Saw this bit of info at RS from Morly.

The original Clone Wars (G. Tartakovsky) line ends with Roron. The new CGI series line kicks off with Yoda at SDCC. The Star Wars Animated line (consisting of animated versions of characters from any of the 6 films) continues with Obi-Wan

This one is for solrac & anyone else that preordered the keys for pick up at SDCC. From Morly at RS:

Quote
Hey Guys,

OK, well, we've been keeping a little quiet about this up until now, but the time seems right. Here's the deal:

Everyone who goes to the 2008 San Diego Comic-Con and purchases a character key (any property) will receive a ticket. You'll get one ticket for every key you buy. And, yes, if you pre-ordered a Yoda and/or Kenobi, you will get your tickets when you pick up your keys (non-attendees will not be eligible for the contest...sorry, but there has to be some privilege/benefit involved with actually attending the convention!). At the end of the convention, we will draw a ticket and post that winning number on our website and on our blog at forums, etc. The person with that ticket will then send it to us at Acme for verification and to claim the prize...it's one worth playing for...

The winner will receive an entire set of the original Clone Wars character keys. We have pulled from different sources and have gathered all 16 of them, so the numbers won't match, a few keys will be proofs (one an unnumbered proof), but they are all authentic keys!

Good luck to everyone!

-Morly

That is one hell of prize!  :o

Also note, the Yoda & Obi Wan keys go up July 26th, 9am PST for Non Attendees only. Check out the link below, good luck.

I would say that it would be 11am PST, ACME is located in Burbank, CA so that would be 12 noon my time.

Hemish, depending on your location I'm not sure of the time in Australia but I think it's Saturday, November 8, 2008 at 5:00:00 am for you. I'm guessing you are around the Brisbane area?

You can use the Time Zone Converter (http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/converter.html) to check it out.

At this time, I am not sure what the limit is on this key. If the limit is one then set the clock so you can grab one as it is limited to 1000 as this one is sure to fly. Razor's Edge Collectibles (http://www.razorsedgecollectibles.com/catalog/advanced_search_result.php?keywords=character&osCsid=7db1d43df3fbd819a4b7b5656ebaebd4) may carry this key as they have done in the past but still I am unsure at this time.  :-\

Hey gang, I've decided to not bother trying to finish out the Clone Wars series of the character keys.  So I'm going to sell off what I've got left over for either retail, below retail or what I paid for them on the secondary market (ARC/Padme/Sidious).

Asajj Ventress 0453/1250 $25
Count Dooku 0060/1250 $25
Anakin Skywalker 0788/1000 $25
Durge 0633/1000 $20
Kit Fisto 0074/1250 $25
Arc Captain 696/750 $60
Padme Amidala 448/750 $55
Darth Sidious 428/500 $70

also have a spare Sandtrooper key for $30 - 0254/1000

PM me here if interested.  Shipping should be fairly reasonable I'd think given their size.

Post by: DSJ™ on January 26, 2009, 10:57 AM
Yeah, they always have great coupons. Can save a ton of $$$.  ;D

I was just going through my cels & figuring out how many I need including the Indy & a couple of Sketchplates. Too damn many... 30 single frames if I go with the floating type. 26 for the SW keys, 2 for Indy & 2 for the Sketchplates. Maybe I'll go with a couple of custom frames for the SW keys, dunno. I'll have to see where I want to display them & do some measuring.

Thus far, no new character keys that I know of coming out. If they do more I think Chewy needs to be done.  :)

It seems like it has been awhile since we've heard much new about the SW keys.  As I've been trying to slim down the collection, I've considered putting the majority of the ones I've grabbed up for sale - but just haven't done that yet.  I'm sure if they announce a new one, I'd probably change my mind.  For as much as I like these though, I'm starting to wonder if I'd ever have the place to display them properly.  Are there any more scheduled for this year?  I guess it is an easy line to keep up on if we continue to see one or two per year.

there was supposed to be an announcement in March, but got pushed back "a few weeks" according to Morly.

Morly, can you give us an update?

Well, first of all, yes, we WILL have a key at SDCC though we're not ready to announce it just yet.

The announcement I was supposed to make in March wasn't actually for SDCC, but for our next regular edition key.  We hit a few snags with the design of it, but are zeroing in on it now, so, hopefully, we'll have some kind of announcement sooner rather than later!

Something will be announced soon, will keep ya posted.  ;)

I noticed the poll on the characterkey.com website on what key we'd like to see next, and it looks like both Chewie and Luke are right at the top - I'd be happy to see either one, just to get the "main cast" fleshed out a little bit more.

Kind of surprised, even with the relatively low edition number, that the Luke keys are still up for preorder.  I guess this line has cooled significantly.  Hopefully it won't go away though, as they are kind of nifty.  In my continuing quest to cut back and with my budget lower, I had to cancel my Luke order and I've put the rest of my keys up for sale if anyone is interested (I'm keeping Han and probably Fett, but the rest are available).  If they ever get around to making a Chewie, I'll probably bite though.

Title: Re: ACME Character Keys
Post by: Brian on June 18, 2009, 09:33 AM
I've had to drop this line because of budget, but that Leia one is awfully tempting.  It looks like it might be difficult for non-attendees to pick up, so maybe that will be my justification for passing.  These are nice, but I don't see me ever having a proper place to display them unfortunately.  If/when they make a Chewie, I'll bite, but I'm likely out for the rest of them.  I have to say the Luke/Leia combo has made it more difficult to pass on these though.
Title: Re: ACME Character Keys
Post by: starwarsgeek on June 18, 2009, 10:05 AM
I've been with this line since day 1, after grabbing Yoda at Celebration 3. But for some reason, when they do something from the OT it just doesn't fit, or look right, to me. The original CW versions are amazing, I've got all 16 framed and hung on my wall. But I guess since there isn't a cartoon to match up the animated look of the OT characters with, they just seem odd.

I grabbed the first few like the Boba, TIE Pilot, Slave Leia, Sandtrooper and Tarkin, just because I was on the fence and didn't want to miss out, but I've passed on the rest... and will keep passing. And the 'one-off' characters like Maris Brood? WTF?
Title: Re: ACME Character Keys
Post by: Thrawn on June 18, 2009, 11:59 AM
Love that Leia, and pray I can get in when it goes on sale.  I'm only missing three from the whole line, and it is frustrating since my buddy has one of the three I need, and it is the only one he has. Ugh!

That Mariss Brood one, looks nice, but if it was in a more animated style like the OT and orig Clone wars one I would bit.  I don't know it seems more like the 2nd Yodi one they did last year.
Title: Re: ACME Character Keys
Post by: Dan on June 18, 2009, 08:55 PM
Leia is a much needed addition to the line. Glad to see it, but I'm afraid of missing the small number available.

Force unleashed has been an unreal case of mis-timed associated merchandise. The Rancor and figures were, what several months inf not 6 ahead of the game, and now this comes in when the game is reduced to 1/2 price or less?

I want to see this line continue long enough to get the OT droids, Yoda, and Chewie. After that I am likely to pass, although I could see a cool tusken or jawas key making me think twice before skipping.

Character key update!

The FINAL key from our Star Wars Animated line will be released as a Comic-Con exclusive in July. As always, we will offer a small amount to online buyers that can not attend the convention, as well, but details on that will follow...along with our reveal as to WHICH character will be featured!

Hey Guys,

Yeah, just the end of the animated line (which we started with Slave Leia). We're not necessarily through with the new Clone Wars series and there will likely be more character keys, just not in the animated style that Acme and Gentle Giant created a few years back.

Kind of sad, but not surprising.  I had to get out of these due to budget a little while back, but it seemed like they have really slowed down the last year plus.  I sold mine off except for Han and Boba Fett, and would likely only pick this last one up if it was Chewie.  They are really spiffy though, and I wished I could have continued with them.
Title: Re: ACME Character Keys
Post by: Dan on May 4, 2010, 04:28 PM
I did like this series, but have never settled on how to display them. Currently they are just taped on the inside of some cabinet doors where I house kubricks. They were a good looking line, and reasonably priced. I'm ok with it ending though, and don't have any interest in starting to collect whatever their new line is. I hope the last one is Chewie, but Palpatine would also make sense. Since the only C-3PO and R2 are from clone wars, a single key with the 2 of them would be fine with me too.
Title: Re: ACME Character Keys
Post by: Thrawn on May 6, 2010, 07:42 AM
Sad to see this line go, it was one of the few things I still collected all of them.  Or at least all of the ones I could get my hands on.  Oh well at least I don't have to make sure I am online a certain times of the day when these things go on sale anymore.  Now I just need to find the three I was never able to get, which for a reasonable price I'm sure will never happen...

I kind of got out of these for budget reasons, but always said the one other one I would pick up if they made it was Chewie.  I'll give it a try online, and hope I can get one.  Looks nice.

Judging by zero replies to this news in 10 days, it seems likely that the excitement around character keys has run its' course.

Cause it's from the Prequel Universe... ick!

Yeah, I'm still debating.  I stopped grabbing Prequel stuff from Sideshow, maquettes, etc.  Character keys shouldn't be any different.  I might grab it because it's Maul though.  The only other ones I'd be interested in are Qui Gon and Obi Wans.  No interest in Jar Jar, Panaka, Amidalas, young Anakin, etc.

I still have a few of these in the collection- they really are nice pieces. It actually shows just how good an animated OT seres could look. Here's hoping some of these artists are involved in Rebels.  ;)

I struck out.  Was on right at 9PM EST and missed both.  Guess I'll have to resort to ebay.  I don't need both, one or the other will do.  It's not like I'll have a complete set anyways - I'll eventually get the first Yoda but Grievous and the Carbonite Han rarely, if ever, show up on ebay.

I had a couple windows open, 1 for the main page secret & the other for the standard key. Once the secret pic changed I clicked & added to the cart then flipped over for the other. It was painless for paying & quick. In & out within a minute.
1 secret key did show up on eBay for $80. & was bin'd shortly after. Another has shown up tonite with a bin of $288.88.  ::)

Just received both my Oola character keys from Dark Ink. Both marked variant 123/150 & LE 123/250, very happy I got them for cost. Now to wait another year for a key or two unless they have something during the year which I doubt.

That's ******* awesome.  Congrats on the snag, Scott.  I missed out because I forgot non-attendee ordering was last night so I'll probably never get one (similar to the Han Carbonite key that never shows up on ebay).  Still need to grab Oola also.

I see the dickheads at 'scum are bitching about the choice - wah, wah, wah, why didn't they make a character I wanted?  **** off, knobs, nobody's forcing you to buy it.

Thanks.  I've got about a dozen of these things sitting around that I need to sell, hopefully I can get enough to cover the cost of the Willrow.  Thank the maker (in this case I mean Pearson).   :-*
