Collector's Tips / Re: Tiered Shelving (The Spice Rack Thread)
« on: July 7, 2012, 11:52 PM »
I actually saw some of these today at Target.  I was tempted to revisit the idea.  I had tried them out a few years ago, but I wasn't too happy with them at the time.  Anyhow, I need to get my collection room shelving in order before I do something like this.

Better yet. Replace Quigon with Dooku in TPM. In that case you have the master (Dooku) betraying the apprentance (Obiwan). Later, you have the apprentace (Anakin) betraying the master (Obiwan).

Hmmm.  I don't think that would work as well.  That would just seem a little too neat and tidy.

Also, even if it was brief, Qui-Gon did serve as a sort of father figure to Anakin in Episode I.  And the recurring theme with Anakin's PT story arc is loss.  First he has to leave home in order to join the Jedi Order.  And then he loses his father figure, Qui-Gon Jinn.

The DPCI is valid here in the NYC area, but the price is $24.99 each.  None to be found around here, though.  As for the pricing?  In the grand scheme of TVC figure pricing this still puts the individual figure price at $8.33 each.

Yeah, that's definitely WAY too big.  The might battler Hulk seems like it might be closer in relative size to the 4" scale figures than the Hulk that was released in the basic figure line.

It is . Here's a pic:

Your pic isn't showing up.

Ugh, irritates me so much to think I'll have to shell out like $30 for a Target 3-pack if I want snags... :(

Awww, damn.  This totally blows the POTF2 Cinema Scene Takeel out of the water.

Preview night at SDCC is just a week away, and I noticed that we're still in the ANH poll.  Am I correct in guessing that the wishlist results are going to be presented to Hasbro at Celebration 6?

Also, now that Pops is officially on the way, I think I have to figure out what figure campaign to get behind.  Right now, I'm leaning towards Ven Zallow, from the "Deceived" trailer for STAR WARS - THE OLD REPUBLIC.  Darth Malgus seems to have captured people's attention for the time being.  So why not the Jedi that he dueled in the trailer that really brought him to light?

I regard this as more of a general story issue, rather than a single missed moment.  Simply because it seemed that the story of Attack of the Clones may not have been that set in stone when The Phantom Menace was in production.

I think the overall story of the decline of the Jedi might have been better served had Christopher Lee been cast as Jedi Master Dooku in Episode I.  And having Dooku on the Jedi Council in that film might have given his storyline more gravitas moving forward through the PT.  Exchanges between him, Yoda, Mace Windu and Qui-Gon Jinn in those Jedi Council scenes could have shed more light on Anakin Skywalker's future, as well as that of the Jedi.  This in turn, could have made his standing in Episode II have far greater weight, and also given his treachery that much more impact.  However, I think Lucas simply was not thinking that far in advance.

I'm kind of curious....how does the 6" version of the Hulk look next to the 4" scale figures?

Some news from George R.R. Martin about what he lovingly refers to as the map bookThe Lands of Ice and Fire has been turned over to the publishers.

Another reference / coffee table book called The World of Ice and Fire is in the works.  It features illustrations and elaborates on much of the history that's been referenced over the course of the series of novels.

There's also a new novella in the series of the Dunk & Egg stories on the way.

Watto's Junk Yard / Re: Iron Man (Movie and Sequels)
« on: July 4, 2012, 01:57 AM »
The next Iron Man film appears to be very much about a past Iron Man storyline, and it's not derivative of what we saw in Avengers.  Comic fans may be familiar with the Extremis storyline.  I can't say that I am, but that's where the rumors for Iron Man 3 are pointing.  Additionally, Ben Kingsley has been cast for the movie, and is rumored to be playing the Mandarin.  Personally, I can't think of a more significant villain from the Iron Man canon.

Thor 2 is in the works, too.  That movie seems poised to show us more of the expansive universe outside of Earth and Asgard.  Plus, when you consider the fact that the object of Thanos' desire, the Inifinitey Gauntlet, showed up in the weapons vault on Asgard?  I think that Thor 2 might be the vehicle for further developing the plot involving Thanos.

Conventions / Re: San Diego Comic-con 2012
« on: July 3, 2012, 11:44 PM »
I went to my first SDCC in 2007.  It was amazing in terms of how much was there, and the scope.  There were more people there than at any of the Star Wars Celebrations I had ever been to, and those shows are big.  I went back to SDCC 2 years later in 2009, and WHOA.  It just turned into this huge Hollywood extravaganza.  EVERY major movie studio with a comic or fantasy title on the way was there in a big way.  The original spirit of the con has turned into something else, and has definitely been co-opted by Hollywood into one of the biggest promotional events of every year.

The attendance in '09 was out of control!  One cab drive I spoke with said that the estimates on the number of people in town for SDCC was in the neighborhood of 200,000.  Walking the floor bordered on scary at times because it was simply a crush of people.  And good luck getting into some panels.

As for the facilities?  The San Diego convention center is really big.  But is it THAT big?  It's been a point of contention for several years now that SDCC has outgrown San Diego itself.  Especially with cities like Las Vegas hoping to lure Comic Con away.  Vegas definitely has far more to offer Comic Con attendees in terms of accomodations.  It's definitely an attractive option since both times that I went to the con I had to stay about 20 minutes outside of San Diego proper.  And that's a major consideration for a lot of people who attend Comic Con.  Las Vegas's convention center has monorail & bus service to and from most of the major hotels.  And Las Vegas also has a much bigger convention center than San Diego.

These attempts by San Diego to expand the convention center really do seem like a stop-gap measure to hold onto Comic Con.  And how can the city REALLY hope to increase the number of hotel rooms in the downtown San Diego area?

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell is upholding the player suspensions from the Saints "Bounty-Gate" scandal.  And the suspensions are definitely serious!

-Jonathan Vilma - Suspended for the entire 2012 season
-Anthony Hargrove - Suspended for 8 games
-Will Smith - Suspended for 4 games
-Scott Fujita - Suspended for 3 games

Have them build a Walmart in NYC.

That's a WHOLE other discussion.

The Darth Malgus wave showed up in my neck of the woods.  And in multiple chains!  I finally found the Imperial Navy Commander, but no Malgus yet.  It'll show up soon enough.  At least now that the bulk of the Spiderman merch has shipped.
