Tropical Storm Bonnie is the second storm of the season so far, and appears to potentially be setting up to hit the US by weeks end.
The projected 5 day track puts Bonnie over Camden South Carolina by Friday afternoon. By then she will have become a Tropical Depression once more.
Also, a third Tropical Depression has formed near the Windward Islands.
More information: http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/text/refresh/MIATCPAT2%2Bshtml/092028.shtml?
And more information on TD3: http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/text/refresh/MIATCPAT3%2Bshtml/091746.shtml?
So, place your bets, which one will hit the US and which one will be stronger?
-
Only a special man can reply to his own post... Tropical Storm III is now know as Tropical Storm Charley
Charley is expected to become a Hurricane by mid-week, and the projected path takes him right into the central gulf by Sunday morning.
Both Charlie and Bonnie look to have the possibility for hitting the US over the next week. And at this time, it appears they will both by Hurricanes by land fall.

Just sitting here waiting for hurricane charley to blow on through town, anyone else in the fort myers area enjoying it as much as i am?
Sorry about the double thread.
-
Yay, and it just got bigger..........what fun
-
One hurricane thread just ain't enough! (http://www.jedidefender.com/yabbse/index.php?topic=4969.0)
-
Well I guess we can keep this all in one topic & merge the 2 together. ;)
-
I'm worried about the now Category 4 Charley. I'm from Clearwater/Tampa, have family there, was supposed to go visit them tonight. My flight was cancelled and 1.9 million people have been told to evacuate.
Insane.
-
What gets me is that DisneyWorld is still remaining open....
Now who would be at a theme park during a hurricane (Besides the people who already payed a couple of thousand $$$ to be there)?
-
Further proof that Disney is evil. Nothing more.
-
Incredible, Charley was just a catagory 2 this morning!
Looks like he's going to hit Florida, then us, then North Carolina.
It should be noted he is the first major hurricane since Andrew 12 years ago.
-
So we're finally getting a lot of pictures of the aftermath. Pretty devastating. At least 15 dead. Hopefully all of our JD'ers (Sharon, Logray, Rob, Andrew) and their friends and families out there made it through safely. Thoughts and prayers are with you all. Chime in when you get a chance, and let us know how you are folks!
-
it's been raining here in nj for the past few days 'cause of this, and now charley is coming up the coast, and they are calling for torrential downpours and thunderstorms for tonight and tomorrow. i finally get a day off from work, and look what happens... yay ::)
-
Tropical Storm Charley's path thankfully took him far from here to Myrtle Beach. All we got was a little rain. Though, he was never supposed to hit the Upstate, yesterday proved that anything is possible.
In further news, Tropical Storm Danielle has formed off of the African Coast and is predictied to become a Hurricane within the next few days.
Also, Tropical Depression Five is anticipated to become Tropical Storm Earl by tommorow morning. Interestingly enough, TD5's path is almost exactley like Charley's predicted path cria Monday...

http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/ftp/graphics/AT05/refresh/AL0504W5+GIF/141458W5.gif
Not good...
My prediction? Danielle isn't going to be much of a threat for atleast a week and a half and will likely take a turn to the Northwest due to a Ridge in the Atlantic that is set to take up shop next week.
However, Earl has a chance of being the third tropical system to hit the United States. He's likely to become a hurricane by Wendsday or sooner. Where he'll hit, is anyones guess.
The storms and locations hardest hit (US) this year so far go as follows:
Alex: Hurricane, Cat.1, South Carolina/North Carolina
Bonnie: Tropical Storm, Florida/Georiga/South Carolina/North Carolina/Virginia
Charley: Hurricane, Cat.4 (could possibly be upgraded to a 5 after damage is surveyed), Florida/South Carolina/North Carolina
Danielle: Tropical Storm, N/A
TD5/Earl: N/A

Hello everyone from south Ft. Myers, and thanks to all for the concern everything here is finally starting to get back to normal, slowly of course. We just got power back around my part of the neighborhood sunday night around 9 p.m. .
But everything is still kinda hectic around here, one point we had a lack of ice, then fighting through traffic just to find a little gas.
Once again I would like to thank everone for the concern, its gonna be kinda rough for some other communities around here.
P.S.--- By the way instead of Logray yall can call me Claude.
-
Thanks for checking in Claude...any damage of note in your area and to your residence?
-
Well around my area just alot of downed trees, power lines, some trees fell into peoples patios. Nothing too serious to my apartment complex, just one broken window and a tree that fell against someones apartment, we were pretty lucky not to get more damage. As for me i had a tree on my other car while i was gone, completely taking out my rear windshield, so that kinda sucks.
-
Alex: Hurricane, Cat.1, South Carolina/North Carolina
Bonnie: Tropical Storm, Florida/Georiga/South Carolina/North Carolina/Virginia

Danielle: Hurricane, Atlantic
Earl: Tropical Storm, Atlantic
Frances: Hurricane, Cat.4, Florida, Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina, Tennesse, Kentuky, North Carolina
Gaston: Tropical Storm, South Carolina, North Carolina, New England Maritime
Hermine: Tropical Storm, Atlantic
Ivan: Hurricane, Cat.4, Atlantic right now

Thanks for the update Vator. I was just looking for a list of this year's storms. :)

:( Looks like we are going to get slammed again in florida, normally i would be too worried with it hitting the east coast but this thing is damn near the size of the whole state. So if i dont check back with yall before Saturday, I'll be sure to do it Monday.
P.S. To any other members on the east coast, I should say the whole damn state, my thoughts and prayers to yall.

I've got family in Clearwater - they had a very near miss 2 weeks ago with Charlie and now look to be on the exit path of Frances...
Scary stuff for everyone involved.
-
Best of luck to all the Floridians out there. Probably the Carolina folks as well... Hopefully this thing just blows through quick and painlessly, avoiding anything important. Hang in there.

-
My wishes for safety and good luck extends to all Southeasterners as well... :-\ Please check in if you get a chance in the next few days

From what I've seen it looks like everyone in Florida could be in it's path!

Or more specificaly...
I for one am hoping that the High Pressure system off our coast dosen't move, because if it does everyone is fair game.
If it's a Major Hurricane, there can be no doubt that the losses will be great. What I am more concerned about though, is the fact that it's going to be moving so slow over such a large area. I have no doubt in my mind that this thing is going to cause flooding, and quite possibly severe flooding.
To all in the Southeast...from Norfolk, to Charleston, to Gainsville, to Miami stay safe and keep an eye on the weather.
-
:o
Certainly puts a less than warm summer complaint in perspective.
Be safe.
-
Millions of Floridians told to evacuate (http://edition.cnn.com/2004/WEATHER/09/02/hurricane.frances/index.html)
Hope this just blows through. Be safe!
-
Hope all of you people in Florida and other areas which may be affected end up being safe and you families and friends as will.
-
REMANTS OF FRANCES MOVE INTO SOUTHEAST, BRING TORNADOS TO SOUTH CAROLINA!
Wow, there've been a ton of Tornados today in SC! All in the midlands though, but sadly they're coming this way...more updates as I have em!
-
So, did everyone in Florida make it through that thing OK? Sharon? Derek? Rob's friends/family?
Hope everyone's cool, and still has a home to live in...
-
Got brushed by Frances, now we have Ivan coming this way. I am starting to hate living in Florida, this is something we dont need, and from what I have seen it is staying a strong cat 5 storm.
-
Ivan is now a category 5.
-
Oh, c'mon Zod! Why not tell everyone the good news?
Ivan is going to constantly juggle it's intensity between a 4 and a 5!
Seriously, at any rate, this hurricane is going to be a major headache for the Southeastern US. Expect Ivan to remain a major Hurricane till US land fall... :(
-
Dang.
There's gonna be nothing left of Florida at this rate! When was the last time that FLA was threatened with 3 big storms in a row over a single month like this?
Charlie (Cat 4-5)
Frances (Cat 2-3)
Ivan (Cat 4-5)
Jeff
-
Not within the last 150 years!
And what's bad for Florida is bad for us, since we always get the Flordian backwash...
-
I cannot even begin to express how SICK of this hurricane crap I am!!!!
Charley damaged my home, (just $2000) Francis damaged one of my work trucks, and this has killed my business for the rest of the season. Moved most of the contents of my home to a safer location, but cannot move anything home until we see what Ivan is going to do. (I live in a mandantory evacuation area, twice I have been told to leave my home) This is going on 5 weeks with no work, I am about to snap. I am physically ok, but pretty stressed. Almost ready to go O Ren on somebody.... >:( Being without power for a week at a time in the Florida heat is enough to make a person crazy.
There HAS to be SOME explanation why these storms are hitting this area like this. I have lived in Florida over 30 years, I've never heard of this happening before, anywhere. I am thankful that damage was not worse for me, but PLEASE! ENOUGH!!
But here I am, checking in and venting a little. Hope all the rest of my Florida friends are ok. (Just checked on Karma, she is ok too) For any of you that might be in future hurricane paths, heed the warnings and PREPARE. Thanks for all of you that cared enough to think of our struggle.
-
Good luck with Ivan, Sharon! I hope this time the storm misses you!
Jeff

Oh, c'mon Zod! Why not tell everyone the good news?
How about some more bad news...
http://hurricanealley.net/Storms/09L.html
Winds at 350 feet above sea level measured at 210 mph.

Yes Darthshader, there is a reason that this season seems to have a lot more activity for Florida.
You see, the last 30 or so years have seen a lull in hurricane activity. However, the pattern is changing, and it looks like this season is going to be quite active.
So far, everything has gone according to the forcast that calls for 3-4 major storms. Not only that, the last 5 years have been very calm, contrast that with this year and I'm sure it would seem like there has been a HUGE spike in activity.
Storms to Locations thus far in the US....
Let's see....
Florida: Bonnie, Charley, Frances
Georgia: Bonnie, Charley, Frances
South Carolina/North Carolina: Alex, Bonnie, Charley, Gaston, Frances
Virginia: Alex, Bonnie, Gaston, Frances
At anyrate, I wish all my fellow Southeasterners the best of luck with Ivan. Especially Florida, since, well you've taken a harsh beating this last month.

Saw that in the 11 o'clock advisory. He's living up to his Russian Counterpart, that's for sure...

Found this picture of Ivan on the Astronomy Picture of the Day Archive (http://antwrp.gsfc.nasa.gov/apod/archivepix.html). :o
Above the Eye of Hurricane Ivan:
Ninety percent of the houses on Grenada were damaged. Such is the destructive force of Hurricane Ivan, already one of the most powerful and destructive hurricanes on record. And the storm will likely make landfall in southern USA tomorrow. Ivan is the currently the third - and largest - hurricane set to strike the US this hurricane season. The swirling eye of Hurricane Ivan was photographed above from the orbiting International Space Station (ISS) on Saturday as the storm's sustained 200 kilometer per hour winds wreaked havoc in the Caribbean. The bad news is that hurricane season in the Atlantic typically lasts until November 30, still over two months away. The more immediate bad news is that tropical storm Jeanne is next in line coming across the mid-Atlantic Ocean and could pass Puerto Rico sometime today.

Holy ****!
-
Ivan is going to miss my area, but best wishes for those in it's path. Please take care of yourselves, and prepare! :o
-
Good luck to everyone in the Gulf...my thoughts and prayers will be with you. We should all pray Ivan does not hit New Orleans, sounds like that could be the worst disaster in US history
-
Nah, no way this will be worse than the Galveston Hurricane of 1900...8000 people aren't gonna die.
-
Ivan was a killer. Just about 10 people died in my area.
Lot's of wind damage, but not much rain.
