No contest. The best is the 300th Figure of Boba Fett. 2nd would be the Coruscant Guard IMO.

Great line, but Tessek is easily my favorite. Followed by other greats such as Eeth Koth, and of course the Imperial Officer, Teebo, and R4M9.

POTJ was a fantastic line.

They're all very good-looking figures, so I think it's too hard to say one is by far the best.

My vote, as it always has, goes to Plo Koon. He has the best Force File picture, IMO, and the paint app. is second to none. I mean, look at the scales on his hand, and the head mold..man, I dunno why they didn't just take the POTJ head for the Saga Plo Koon, because it's a thing of beauty.

It's too hard for me to pick my fav.  Although I really liked the Sandtrooper and Tessek among many, many others.

POTJ had some of the hands down most AWESOME figures of the modern line.

None were perfect, and none were of the quality of lines like X-Treme Detail, but Hasbro came DARN close a few times.

My tops would be:

1) Imperial Officer (And his Saga head variants)
2) Bespin Capture Han Solo
3) Bespin Security Guard
4) Sandtrooper (Didn't like him as much at first, but the 4-pack's helped change my opinion)
5) Tessek
6) R2-Q5
7) Bo Shek
8 ) R4-M9
9) Zutton
10) FX-7
11) Teebo
12) Amanaman
13) Mon Cal Crewman
14) K-3PO

Those are just some of my favorites...  I think POTJ blew Saga away in overall GOOD figures and better quality.  Price was higher though...  $5.99 was what I got most of the POTJ for myself, sometimes cheaper.

Some of those figures are in my top 10 all time from Hasbro I really think...

Hasbro's seemingly incapable of making perfection though...  At least they feel it's not worth the effort anyway.  They're SO close on some of those though, like Bespin Capture Han, Bespin Guard, and the Sandtrooper...

You add 4 points of articulation to each of those figures, and you've got something I feel is on-par with an X-D figure in overall perfection...  Even if XD still outdoes them in the articulation department.

And no, the Fleet Trooper doesn't make my list...  It's still a weak figure. :)

1) Imperial Officer (And his Saga head variants)
10) FX-7

If I really had to pick some figures that I liked a lot, I would have to pick these two.  The FX-7 was done very well.

I think its a tough call.  IMO this way had more good figures than crappy ones.  Bespin Han, FX-7 and Eeth Koth are probably my favorites

This is so tough... Jesse has it right.  There's no clear winner.  They're all good.   For me, it's a tie between Boba Fett, FX-7, Bespin Han, and Throne Room Amidala.

My favourite (sorry, “favorite” – I’m English) POTJ figure is Obi-Wan Cold Weather Gear. I know it’s EU, but I just love it as a figure regardless of whether it’s really “Star Wars” or not. It has such great detail and cool accessories and I’ve always liked anything “Hoth Gear” looking from right back to vintage days when I was a kid.

I’ve even taken a picture of this particular figure and used it as the basis of my avatar.

To be honest though, I’d struggle to find any figure in this line that I don’t really like. To me, it’s the best series released so far (by Hasbro, anyway).

:)

I think the Snobi Wan looks great, too, but he's one of the figures I never found.  I'll have to add him to my To Get List.   ;D

If I'm forced to pick just one, it would have to be POTJ Sandtrooper.

But the numerous runner ups include:

Rebel Fleet Trooper (REALLY CLOSE)
Amanaman
Tessek
Duros
Coruscant Senate Guard
R2-Q5
Gungan Warrior
Plo Koon
Imperial officer
Mas Amedda

Many figures in this line were done very, very well...but I really think that the overall best would have to be the 300th Figure Boba Fett...it may not be the most articulated or poseable figure in the world, but the sculpt, paint, and general appearance is almost perfection.  Other favorites of mine from this line would have to be Bespin Capture Han, FX-7, and the Scout Trooper.

I really, really like the 300th Fett too, but isn't it basically a deluxe figure ???  I remember it retailing for about double a regular POTJ figure, so is it fair to compare a figure at double the price with a regular fig, say snow Obi?  $10 verus $5?  Shouldn't it be a much, much better figure?  Limited articulation, no pack ins really.  Sure, cool paint job and cloth cape but.... it was double the regular price.
Title: Re: Best POTJ Fig?
Post by: Jesse James on June 13, 2003, 05:57 PM
I agree with Morgbug that the 300th Fett has a deluxe price with no "deluxe" feel.

Nice sculpt, nice deco, and a cloth cape are things you should expect (And have received) from the standard line...

Now if Deluxe Fett had come with 18+ POA, a blast effect for his gauntlet and rifle, real-hair wookie scalps, etc...

That'd have been Deluxe.

As it is to me though, he's a pre-posed ESB Fett that could've stood some tweaking.  He's not bad, but for $10 I expect something better than that.  Sculpt and deco are something that should be as good as Hasbro can do ALL the time though, not just on a "special" figure.

My 300th Fett's just standing there on my Bespin Freeze Chamber...  I've always wanted a superior Fett since he was released. :(  Unfortunately the Saga Fett wasn't that "Superior" one I was waiting for.

300th fett. I agree there wasn't much deluxe about him, I guess maybe hasbro thinks a cool box makes him special. anyway, yah he had crappy articulation compared to some figures but the looks, sculpt, and detailing were all top notch.  articulated kness and elbows and maybe he is one of the best ever but as he is I still really dig him.

Title: Re: Best POTJ Fig?
Post by: Jesse James on March 10, 2004, 09:28 PM
Adam Pawlus just mentioned how at the time, 300th Fett was top notch, and I tend to agree with that idea, but it still doesn't place him high on my list.  The figure just fell flat and was the start of a nasty pre-posed trend later on...

We see his style of sculpting, his features like a working holster and such, in todays figures...  Hasbro just wanted to milk a little extra through the packaging I think.

POTJ had a ton of great figures though...  Amanaman, Imp. Officer, R2-Q5, R4-M9, Duros, Bespin Guard, Bo Shek, Zutton, Luke Bacta...  These are some pretty good figures that I'd rate above 300th Fett personally.

Too bad Fett wasn't something special.  I'm really anxious to see this "vintage" OTC one though.  Whew...  Should be amazing.

This was a great line with lots of great figures.  Among my favorates:

Bespin Han
Bespin Guard
FX-7

Moldy Oldy.

Boy was I right about the VOTC Fett, heh...  :)

Anyway, I'd say the Imp. officer is my favorite of POTJ but I'd list Teebo, FX-7, and the Bespin Guard as 3 others I felt were tops of that line (without touching Deluxe).

The Bespin Han's cool too Anton, but my gripe was his articulation was limited (though at the time it wasn't bad, but it still was "eh" in a way too).

Lot of stinkers in POTJ too though.  I thought BE Leia bit and I was always disappointed in Lando's pose.  The earlier figures like General Leia or Mechanic Anakin were weak efforts at best.  The EU figures like Snowbi Wan and Training Maul sorta sucked though Training Obi and Qui-Gon were nice I thought, for what they were.

The astromechs were great though, as was Duros and Ketwol.  Nice filler figures.  Bo Shek was pretty nice too.

The Imp. Officer is one I'll buy in droves still.  I love that figure.  I wish it'd get a re-release with the TIE Pilot pack-in figures legs (bendable knees) for a little better poseability at no additional cost.

Release it in grey and I'd buy lots and lots of that figure.

I would add these to the list of great POTJ figures:
Sebulba
IG-88
They both have some neat features, with the removable helmet and bondolier. Would have liked more accessories with all in the line, but the most part one of the better lines we have seen. I like the POTJ line over the Saga line. Mainly because the action features killed the Saga line and still plagues new lines today.

Sebulba's highly overlooked.

Wonder how they'd do that figure today?  Could be pretty interesting but he wasn't bad at the time either.  He'd be tough to do better honestly.

Ah, the good ol' POTJ line. Fond memories there.

For me, my favorites were:

FX-7
BoShek
Imperial Officer
Sandtrooper
Scout Trooper

All, save FX-7, could probably have benefitted from extra articulation, but sculpts were great.

Title: Re: Best POTJ Fig?

The scout disappointed me.  It was one of the first figures that were a sign of bad things to come.  Little articulation and a goofy assed pose...  That would carry us from late 2002 onward unfortunately till at least 2004.

The POTJ was a great wave/line of figures. The fig toward the end of the line were really top notch.

My overall faves:
Battle Droid -Security (a battle droid that can ******* stand up and not look drunk)
Coruscant Guard (rocked big time, even though the arm posing was limited)
Eeth Koth (the precursor to how jedi would sculpted for the Saga line and the intro of the 2-piece lightsaber)
Bespin Guard (came with a ton of useful accessories that could be attach to the figure as well)
FX-7 (great sculpt with tons of articulation)
Imperial Officer (finally someone to shout orders at those stormtroopers)
Queen Amidala Royal Decoy (ornate sculpt and could easily fit in with the current TSC line)
Sandtrooper (he's a sandtrooper and included macrobinocs)
Teebo (Ewoks are cool)
Tessek (throw some weathering on him and re-release him for the TSC line)

If Hasbro tried him today they would just screw him up most likely. It would be neat if they could give him more articulation without totally destroying the figure, but that is a big pipe dream.

Title: Re: Best POTJ Fig?
Post by: Jesse James on April 3, 2006, 08:50 PM
Articulating him is the only thing I think they could do to improve him.  The sculpt of the POTJ figure was dead-on and a removable hat with working goggles was unheard of at the time really...  At least at that level of quality.

I think the articulation could be improved considering how well done Sun Fac is...  Similar joints would help Sebulba, but nonetheless he's still a great figure that holds up well.  Unlike, say, Duros...  I loved that figure at the time, but considering what Hasbro does today, Duros should have some knee joints and elbow/wrist joints...  Kind of funny how he just now LOOKS good but falls well short of quality we've seen in the last 2 or 3  years.

I have astoundingly few POTJ figures, and am looking to buy some more in the future. As it is I own 4 and have two favories :P Death Star Escape Han is purely for kitbash fodder, and while she's a fairly good figure, Bespin Escape Leia (what's with all the escaping? In 2000 it was escaping, in 2006 it's battles, I guess) is not quite a favorite.

While FX-7 isn't the most exciting character ever, I have to admit it'd be hard to make a better version of him. Each and every arm articulated with two joints! And the turning middle and removeable upper arm. This figure is great; it makes an "interesting prop" character fun, and is a perfect and complete representation of him. Can't ask for much more.

Millenium Falcon Mechanic Chewbacca, while rereleased almost as much as Cantina Han, is a pretty good figure and made great strides in Chewie sculpting and height. He's multipurpose and looks pretty good. He's been outdone more than once since, but he's the best Chewbacca in my collection so far and I like him.

*shrugs*

But overall the POTJ line does seem to be quite good and made a lot of progress for SW figures overall. About the only bad thing I can say for it is the (in my unpopular opinion) slightly goofy packaging and line name, but being a loose collector it doesn't trouble me. Actually, I've never held a POTJ card in my hands, unless I did back when they were new and in that case I put it back- don't remember.

Which one's Disco Lando?

Do you maybe mean General Lando? That one actually originated as a POTF2 freeze frame figure... hence not only the action-stance but the super-buffness.

But if you mean something else, that sounds like something I should see :)
Title: Re: Best POTJ Fig?
Post by: Jesse James on April 21, 2006, 01:06 AM
I assume he's talking about Bespin Escape Lando with his bellbottomed pants...  Disco Lando's more descriptive of the POTF2 Lando though.  THAT was a Lando with Disco Fever. :)

As far as the stance on Pilot Lando, I don't think that really had much to do with POTF2 as a line overall.  It was really actually a bit of an enigma...  One figure out of many in a very wonky action pose.  Besides Lobot, I can't off-hand think of too many exagerrated POTF2 poses...  Death Star Trooper, that's about all I'm able to come up with in the basic line though.

Aside from the lack of articulation, I think POTJ will probably go down as the favorite segment of the modern line in many people's eyes.  Hasbro really catered to fans during this period, and they had to, after the near K.O. that followed EP1 at retail.  They don't seem hardly as interested in maintaining a good relationship with their base nowadays (more like they're exploiting it) and so maybe the figures are 'better', but not as fun.

Exactly, did you ever think, back in the day, that we'd be getting a FX-7, K-3PO or 2 kick ass Astromech Droids?

I just pulled that figure out the other day, and I still think highly of it. Despite the fixed pose, it a well engineered figure that holds up perfectly to today's sculpting standards.

FX-7 stands head and shoulders above everything else and despite all those arms she doesn't even have shoulders (yes I always thought of FX as girl).
Title: Re: Best POTJ Fig?
Post by: Jesse James on December 9, 2014, 06:53 PM
I concur...  FX-7 is probably my top pick.  All the articulated arms, the hyper detail (down to the red spatters, whatever they may be, on the one arm), definitely makes it a figure to be reckoned with.  There aren't many that compare, and it's the type of figure that I don't look at and think, "Boy I wish they'd update FX-7!".

I can't say that about ANY figure otherwise.

Every other figure in POTJ could stand to use a modern update...  Some it's just a matter of better articulation, but every single one could be updated for sure...  Hell, some that WERE updated could stand another update, actually.

Glad to see a thread like this bumped up.  POTJ really was one of those very cool lines.  Great sculpting and cool character selections.

I still think that FX-7 is one of the best figures of this line.  That figure really stands the test of time very well some 12+ years later.  And with some hindsight there are a few other POTJ figures that I kind of like.  Amanaman was pretty awesome.  And Bacta Tank Luke was, too, if we're talking about the Deluxe line.  As for basic figures?  The sculpts on Ellors Madak, Tessek and Zutton hold up pretty well for me.  And I definitely appreciated the astromechs like R2-Q5 and R4-M9.
