That is, if you dig chicks with no neck.

The only thing that keeps me from not posting there anymore (or baiting for a ban) is the classifieds.  Now that I'm done selling all my modern stuff and the few more things I need for my vintage collection will eventually pop up on eBay, it's probably time to quietly retire from there.

I've been bitching for weeks since I started posting there again about the tree-stump personality of 99% of the members there.  And it's not just noobs and kids either.  People who have been registered for months and years still post the same old garbage threads about movies and TV shows over and over in the Wuher's section.

The problem that PW and the other mods are running into is that they've banned everybody with personality and intelligence, which they seem to see as some sort of threat.  I can definitely see why mods like GNT and Tommy_T would, considering the wildly stimulating caliber of their posts.  But now they're seriously reaping the problems involved with banning interesting members in favor of the dullards they might have insulted (and rightfully so).

Jeez...that answers a lot of questions going back to the War & Politics days....  8)

My own sleuthing has revealed to me that you and Force Guy have/had a similarly illicit relationship.  No need for any pot/kettle remarks, my friend.

Last week was pretty much an outrage as we saw Jared Cotter, Sundance Head and Sabrina sent home so that the likes of Sanjaya could make the Final 12.  Not that there isn't some kind of uproar every year.  But, out of the final 12, I've gotta say that I really only look forward to Chris Richardson, Chris Sligh, Gina Glocksen, and Brandon Rogers. Blake Lewis a little.

I'll predict at this time that Chris Richardson will win.  The only one that I got right in the past 3 seasons was Carrie Underwood who I called would win in season 4 at the time of the Final 12.  Last year I thought it would be Chris Daughtry.

Here's who's left that I am at all interested in watching perform:

Gina Glocksen

Blake Lewis

Brandon Rogers

Chris Richardson

Chris Sligh

I am really gonna miss Jared Cotter and Sundance. Alaina Alexander too.

I can't believe Sanjaya made it over them.  The Indian Conspiracy Theory is running rampant.  There are about 360 million Americans and about 1.1 billion Indians.  If in fact they're voting for him strictly on nationality, could it be Sanjaya is the next American Idol?  Yikes.

You know how I know you're gay?

He's gay because of me, thank you very much.

Watto's Junk Yard / Re: How many of us are musicians?

I grew up as a huge piano player, almost deciding to major in music in college but then realizing that the profession is way too cutthroat.  I haven't had as much time as I'd like the last couple of years, but just this week actually I bought a $2,000 electric piano, so I can get back into it again.

I actually pretty much paid my way through college as a church pianist and with a jazz band that me and a few buddies had.  Those were awesome times.  I might have actually had more money then than I do now.

In the last 2 years I've barfed enough to last the rest of my lifetime.

Let me just say that PRIOR to this period, I had only thrown up once in my life, and that was junior year in college after me and some buddies had decided to take shots of Bacardi 151 all night long.  Bad news.

Then, in 2005 I moved to Tajikistan, and decided to go native with the food.  I caught three cases of food poisoning in 6 months, but most just lasted for one miserable day of nonstop barfing until literally everything was expelled from my stomach.

In January 2006, just after I had gotten used to Tajikistan, I moved to Afghanistan, and the same thing happened, albeit I only got sick once there.

As for the last time I threw up, that would have to be last August.  I was camping in Maine, and left a rotisserie chicken in my hot car all day long, then proceeded to eat it for dinner, not seeming to care why the meat tasted bitter and slimy.  What followed was a night of shivering, barfing, and twitching.

Basically I see all this as making up for a childhood of barf-free experiences and illnesses.  Go figure...

You don't happen to work for American Councils or IREX, do you?  I'm just curious.  Glad to meet someone else who understands the charm of Siberia.

I did. Several years back. My wife's Russian, too, so I'm over in the RFE quite a bit.

See folks, it is a small world.  My most frequent hiking buddy out in Tajikistan was with American Councils.  I knew  alot of IREX guys too.

Regarding the recent post about how almost dying changes someone, there have been more than a few close calls involving either me or a team member on mountain climbs.  I remember one time a few friends and I missed being covered by an avalanche by about 10 minutes, another incident where I slipped and came within feet of a 1000 foot plunge, and more than a few ice axe self-arrests that, if they hadn't been done properly, probably would have been fatal falls.  Most of these all happened within the last two years, when we kept pushing ourselves to do something bigger and better, but I think until someone close to you actually is killed or seriously injured doing something you like to do, only then does it start to hit closer to home.

To keep on topic, I'll tell a related "It's a small world" story. When I was in Pavlovsk (a city not far from St. Petersburg) I was walking through the square when I saw a girl taking her photo by a monument there. She looked familiar and I couldn't place it at first. Then she saw me and had the look of familiarity, too. So we talked and figured out that she was one of the finalists from Magadan that I had sent to the US to study when I was working in Vladivostok. That was really shocking.

You don't happen to work for American Councils or IREX, do you?  I'm just curious.  Glad to meet someone else who understands the charm of Siberia.

And Dressel, that's the power of heroin.  Yes, those kids were stupid, but it wasn't just an isolated incident.  It happens all the time from what I understand.

I was there doing a research project on the Chechen extremist movement, because St. Petersburg has a pretty big Chechen diaspora that's much more willing to talk than the ones in Moscow or the Caucasus region.  It is indeed a beautiful city.  2002 was actually my first time there despite having been born and lived in Tver' (just a couple hours away) for 7 years.  Give me the Lake Baikal area any day though over the cities.

Speaking of Siberia, that reminds me of another time I was stopped in my tracks.  There's apparently a huge heroin problem in the cities, and I remember when I was in Irkutsk back in 2004 I saw a group of kids pick a drug needle off the ground and proceed to stick their legs with it, hoping (I guess) to get whatever bit of heroin might still have been left in the syringe.  I have a bad feeling heroin isn't the only thing they're "getting" from those used needles.

Seeing her again brought back a few things.

Boxes of Puffs Plus back to Walmart where you bought them?  Or blood back to the pelvic region?

I'm usually not comfortable talking like this in a public forum, but because you and me always have to have 'who has the bigger weener' competitions, I'll go ahead and admit it: not only did we shag it up all night long, but she's safely the hottest girl you will ever see.  So hot, in fact, that I'm thinking of posting her picture in the "Top 5 Hotties" thread just for bragging rights.

Your move, Dres.

This happened to me once.  Summer after my sophomore year in college (2002) I spent the summer in St. Petersburg, Russia.  I fell head over heels in love with a girl there, but of course had to leave in August to start the new school year back in the states.  We vowed to stay in touch, but with 8,000 miles between us, it eventually faded.

In May of last year I was on my way home from Afghanistan and layed over in Almaty, Kazakhstan for two days of R&R (believe it or not, after Afghanistan, just about anything else is R&R).  I decided to hit one of the bars, so I chose the one that looked the most happening.  After I'd been in there for about 15 minutes, a girl comes up and taps me on the shoulder, and I turn around, and I'm sure you've already guessed by now, but it was her.  She was getting a graduate degree at the local University of Economics.  I literally didn't know what to say for what seemed like 20 minutes, as my brain was still going through the "Is this really happening?" phase.  Seeing her again brought back a few things.

I don't speak Czech, but this description was at least enough like Russian that I could get the gist of it: they were walking through the countryside in the village of Demjansk, spotted something protruding high out of the ground, and found a tank in excellent working condition.  They either had it valued or bought if for $1 million.  It was exported to Russia and was sold three months later.

Wow - all that just to find out Charlie's going to die?  That episode tied Further Instructions for most pointless episode this season.
