Jocasta's Reading Room / Re: The Force Awakens - Novel
« on: February 4, 2016, 09:01 AM »
I always enjoy reading the SW novel after having seen the movie multiple times.

That being said, it didn't add a ton.
unkar pluut in maz's castle
more about how starkiller weapon works
poe getting from crashed tie fighter to safety
some of rey's inner thoughts about the force/dark side

And there isn't really anything kylo ren thinks or says that is specific about who or how he knows rey. But there are things the book says that tells you he does. And snoke says to hux "I think kylo was right about rey"

Also enjoyed the han death scene. What han and kylo were thinking.

And snoke is a lot more pissed with kylo about some of his decisions

That was kind of all over but hope it helps

Isn't the line during the last lightsaber battle, "it is you" said by Kylo Ren?  That could mean who know who she is or it could refer to the "awakening" in the Force and that she is the lightsider that he and Snoke had felt.

Not sure they will go this way, but if the numbered episodes are supposed to be the story of the Skywalker clan, then she has to be Luke's daughter.  Otherwise, the Skywalker name will be gone by the end of this trilogy, assuming Luke goes the way of Obi-wan.  With the possible pairing with Finn, it works out perfectly since he has no last name and could take the name Skywalker upon a marriage to Rey.

If she is a Solo, it seems way too cold that she isn't acknowledged by her parents in the film.

The Sequel Trilogy / Re: Star Wars: The Last Jedi (SPOILERS)

I am starting to see reports that Avatar 2 "won't be finished in time" for a December 2017 release.  Imagine that.

My big question is, will they make Episodes X, XI, and XII?  I am going to guess that Episode VIII and IX won't beat TFA at the box office if they follow the pattern of the past two trilogies.  With a December release, it may be different.

After Episode IX, we are supposed to get another anthology movie, that has yet to been announced.  Ewan McGregor has said he wants to play Obi-Wan again.  There have been rumors of an Obi-Wan trilogy, but I wonder how they would make that happen with Obi-Wan supposed to be living on Tatooine.

Back in the Lucas days, which he claims he never said, there was talk of both nine and twelve episodes.  I believe the twelve episode plan involved two trilogies based around Luke, Leia, and Han with the Emperor showing up in the second of those trilogies.  At this point, I would think another trilogy would focus around Rey rebuilding the Jedi ten or so years down the road from the current trilogy.

I like it myself.  It is also smart from an economic standpoint.  I bet Avatar 2 gets "delayed".

I originally wanted TFA to maintain the May release schedule, but the December release allowed me to see it several more times due to my annual end of the year vacation.  Rogue One has a December release, so I say stick to the December releases for the Disney Star Wars movies.

Just out of curiosity, how well have the figures been selling on ebay?  Did you get MSRP on them?  I have thinking about selling my carded figures since they have been sitting in totes for years and years.  I just figured I could probably never break even on them.

I'm hearing a lot of the "masked for no reason", and all I wonder is...  Then why are so many other people masked?

It wasn't like Vader was the only guy wearing a mask in Star Wars.  :)

Perhaps Ren's mask helps him tactically like a Stormtrooper helmet?  Why not, ya know?

To me it's like complaining about people wearing capes in Star Wars...  There are quite a few who do, despite the utter impracticality of it.  Why not a mask then?  It could be just for the (at least I felt this way) implied intimidation purposes.  Dicking with people, keeping them from knowing what's underneath.  Who knows.

My wife came up with a theory that could tie in to his confidence.  Kylo Ren seems to be more powerful when he has the mask on.  He freezes a blaster bolt and Poe in the beginning.  When he captures Rey, he can read her mind that she has seen the map, but can't do it when he takes the mask off when she is in the torture rack.  Without the mask, he gets shot by Chewie, wounded by Finn, and beaten by Rey.

Where was R2-KT in the movie? I caught most of the astromechs from that Disneyworld 4 pack but not her.

I believe she is in their twice.  In the background when the first come to the resistance base.  Second time is also in the background when they return to the resistance base after taking out Starkiller Base.  I caught the last one on my second viewing and the first one on my third viewing.  By the third viewing, I was just focusing on the background whenever they were at the resistance base.

The Sequel Trilogy / Re: Disney Buys LFL
« on: November 23, 2015, 03:46 PM »
So here's a question to think about: Given the fairly poor reception for the prequels and Disney's willingness to erase the expanded universe, does anyone think Disney would ever eliminate the prequels or re-write them?  They'll be pumping out new stuff for the next decade, but as that push dies down, is there any chance of revisiting the prequels or will they just let them be?

I actually had the same thought.  Would they reboot the prequels and keep the OT.  Never say never, but Disney's official answer at this point would be no.  When they moved the EU to Legends, they were pretty specific on what was canon.  If they run out of ideas after Episode IX and the third anthology film and don't go for a Episode X to XII trilogy, redoing the prequels would seem logical.  They would push them on the Clone Wars cartoon series into legends and have free range with a new story of Vader's birth.

Lucas has lost it in my opinion.  TPM and AOTC were boring movies.  If you are making a kids series, you don't talk about political disputes over trade routes in the opening credits.

A major problem with the prequels is that he ignored the OT.  Kenobi states that Yoda trained him.  Sure you can retcon it into Yoda trained all the younglings or that it is easier to tell Luke that Yoda trained him instead of telling Luke that Yoda trained the guy who trained the guy who trained him, but he deliberately ignored that link to bring in Qui Gon as Kenobi's master.   Leia's memory of her mother is laughable as well.  The whole three seconds that she saw her does not a memory make, regardless of the Force.  Sure, Padme is too important of a character to kill of screen, but he already wrote himself into a corner.  Lucas could have fixed it by going into the future, but he always kept his story contained.

No one wanted to see a ten year old Anakin.  TPM could have been covered in ten minutes, but, again, Lucas doesn't like to jump forward in time.  What was the one thing everyone wanted to see in the prequels?  The Clone Wars.  What do we get to see?  The opening and closing battles of said Clone Wars while what we wanted to see gets pushed to a cartoon series.  On the whole, I like the Clone Wars series better than TPM and AOTC, but her is where we see Lucas' resentment over the reviews of the prequels.  He decides to do stuff to irk EU fans.  The Mandalorians are now pacifists?  Just silly.  It would be like the hippies overthrowing the US government during the Vietnam era.  His daughter presented Dathomir like it was her idea.  Not one mention of the guy who actually created it.  Lucas goes on the Daily show.  Guess what?  Kenobi is now from Stew-jon.  What a great contribution.  Now he is mad that Disney didn't follow his story lines.  If they were anything like TPM or AOTC, I don't blame them.  Disney paid $4 billion for Star Wars.  I can understand why they would want it to be successful and want to draw the OT fans back.

I'm pretty sure that the TOR game is considered Legends.  According to Hasbro, any figure could have been made with the exception of TFA characters.  SW Action News specifically asked them about that point and they said if a character like Akmena or the Tonnika sisters won, then they would make it.

At this point, I hope that Revan wins since he would be the least likely of those figures to be made.  Greivous is already on production lists.  Lando and Kenobi would certainly be made.  Snowtrooper would probably be made at some point.  Gamorrean could get made depending on how long the line lasts.  Sabine is a bit of a wild card.  It would all depend on how long Rebels lasts.

1. Tonnika Sister (either one or how about a 2 pack?)
2. Hammerhead
3. Blue Snaggletooth
4. Walrusman (Ponda Baba - if the name is still valid)
5. Grand Moff Tarkin
6. R5-D4
7. Tusken Raider
8. Death Star Trooper
9. 4-LOM
10. Zuckuss

Too bad this poll is coming so early in the line.  I fear something like Tatooine Luke will end up "winning".

In February of this year, Marvel and Sony Pictures announced that they had reached an agreement to work together on the cinematic future of Spider-Man. As part of the deal, the new Spider-Man is expected to debut in Captain America: Civil War, before starring in a Jon Watts-directed solo Spider-Man movie to be released on July 28, 2017. For Holland's possible upcoming movie slate, be sure to check out ComicBook.com's comic movie release schedule.

I would think that paragraph states he will be in Cap 3 since he is the "new Spider-Man".
