Title: 2023 TVC Endor Bunker Playset
Post by: Dave on August 29, 2022, 09:38 AM
It was interesting to see that leak from Jayson.    With this leak about a possible Endor bunker playset...

Where have you guys seen discussion of this?   I didn't see anything on Yakface.

I'm assuming it is an external view of the bunker as not much happened inside.

I pulled my old POTF2 bunker playset out six months ago for my Endor display and was pleasantly surprised at the quality.  I'm not sure exactly what different they plan on doing that we don't already have (granted we got that 20 years ago).

He posted an image on his Instagram of Han at the Bunker with some relevant hashtags. I personally didn't get that that was the implication as it seemed vague to me, but the commenters were running with it (and more importantly Jayson wasn't saying no to their assumptions, which he usually does if you take his hint the wrong way.)

Since the Han figure was "pipelined" I wouldn't expect him to be the pack-in, though. I would lean more towards an Endor Trooper or a Scout Trooper since they usually go with army builders in the sets (though this one would be an outlier as there really shouldn't be any way to buy more to expand it out.) If they pack in a scout trooper with the forthcoming speeder bike, then this would be a way to also put him out on a cardback. I dunno, a lot of room for speculation on an item that isn't even confirmed!

Earlier this year Cardboard Galaxy did a bunker control room display that works with that 20-year old playset, who would have figured they would decide to upgrade now!  :D

I saw Jayson's post on IG and I was like you, thinking it was about a new TVC Endor Han... but since it's a bunker, I wonder which direction it will be released: playsets like the freeze chamber (seems the bunker would be too big, Jabba's/Boba's throne (most likely?), or Haslab...  I guess we'll find out soon enough.

Yeah, this was only on Instagram.  The key hint seemed to be "Let me see if I can hotwire this thing" and a photo of Han Solo at the bunker.  People absolutely ran with that on both Instagram and over at the Vintage Collection Facebook group.  And I think it's because Jayson's reporting is almost never wrong.

Yakface/Jayson has tapped into some sources that have made him the single best reporter on the Hasbro Star Wars line.  But it has had the added affect that Hasbro doesn't include him in official events.  He's become a victim of his own success!  But in light of how much attention his content generates, it seems like he doesn't need Hasbro's official sanction to do what he does on Yakface.  But this is probably a bit too inside baseball.

I hope people are mis-interpreting Jayson and that we're not getting a bunker playset.  The one we have is fine and eBay prices aren't crazy if you want to pick up one.  Beyond the bunker doors I'm not sure what they would pack in - trees, a speederbike, Ewok catapult, some ewoks and biker scouts?  I've already got all that (except for the Star Wars trees, but I don't want those).

If they're looking for non-Death Star playsets I'd much rather they do a cantina, Home One briefing room, or Yoda's hut.  We haven't had any of those in the modern line.

Lots and lots of detonators.  But all I can think they could add is the control room/generator room..

I do love your other suggestions, Dave.

I don't have the vintage one, so I'd be interested, especially if it feels more realistic. A blown-out R2 would be a pretty good pack-in.

I'd rather have an Ewok Village than a bunker ste.

An Ewok Village would be cool but I see that hitting Haslab territory. I wouldnt mind a simple diorama with the log-lined flooring, hut facade and fire pit and funeral pyre accessories. (I never could figure out where the funeral pyre is in the village.)

Confirmed today at the Pulse Con panel during the pipeline reveals portion.  2023 new Endor Bunker playset.

Really hoping for something more than a re-do of the 25 year old POTF2 Bunker, which like others have said still holds up very nicely as a display piece...

I'm disappointed this turned out to be a true rumor, and I'm bummed that they didn't really show any mock ups or samples.

I’m happy for anything new TVC, especially OT related. Too bad we couldn’t get a bit of a preview though. Was hoping for an Ewok village playset, even if HasLab, but that would probably be quite pricey.

I'm curious to see how they do this.  All judgement is reserved until I see something mocked up.

I think it is very telling that the image of the Bunker they used is a strange angled view showing mirroring sides...

...almost like they will build it in such a way that you would need two or more to have a set that feels complete. I know that sounds crazy and has no precedent, but I had to say it.

Looks like a modern-day update of the POTF2 bunker.  For $60.

Pre-order tomorrow, 12/7, at 1pm ET at the usual places.

Notice they do not call the figure Nik Sant so that all the "that's REX!" people can still believe it's Captain Rex. ;)

Hmmm.  I mean, I guess it’s nicer than the old one.

Not much there though.

Yeah.  The only thing that is tempting is the pack in figure, but my guess is we'll see him later in a four pack or released at retail.

I'm going to be patient on this one.

I'm pretty excited for this, but I don't have the POTF2 version. I wish the vegetation was removable though, because I'd love to be able to set up some non-forest bunker displays for photography.

It looks good.  $60 good?  Well, it seems like all things are relative now.  It definitely looks better than the POTF2 playset.  Although the doors had me wondering if this was an upgrade of the old version.  But when I looked it up the old bunker looked quite different from this new version.

I agree about the vegetation growing on the outside.  While it makes it look much more true to Endor, clean walls might give you a reason to buy another of these for a possible Battle of Scarif diorama. As for the pack in figure?  I think it’s a decent choice, but it might have come across as more interesting if Hasbro hadn’t made a Nik Sant in disguise back in the Legacy Collection battle pack.  Oh, and did anyone else notice that the likeness seems a bit more like Rex?

Hasbro Endor Bunker Video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9m23NVIrgik)

Hasbro put out this little promo video which shows off some of the bunker's details as well as a size comparison between this one and the POTF2 one.

After watching that video, I think this is probably a nice enough upgrade for me to get one.  Better sliding doors, larger size, fun little details in the bunker entrance.  I think I have some Amazon points I can toss at this to offset the $60 price.

Very nice. $60 is a bit pricey but overall I think it looks like it is worth it based on current pricing. All the new detailing looks pretty great. I would agree that I wish the greenery was removable though.

I'm down for one to start. When this eventually hits sale prices as all the other playsets seemed to, I may even grab another 1-2 sets.

The Hasbro Pulse video definitely helped to sell this. And I like how Emily compared this to the POTF2 playset.  The demonstration of the blast doors and how they function is a selling point.

It is a nice comparison video and somewhat nicer than the original, but I'm still probably going to pass on this.

My current bunker playset sits in the back of a display area so the less wonky doors and slightly larger size really don't matter to me.  And looking back (thanks to Adam Pawlus' tweet) we already have a version of this figure.

What I find a lot surprising is that they went to the trouble of creating an all new playset with all new tooling, etc. of something we already have and nobody was asking for.  I could understand if it was a repainted/re-released version of the original for cost savings, but if they're going to go to the trouble of making a new playset you would think they aim for something new and better, maybe like an Ewok hut (sticking with the ROTJ theme).

This whole thing really makes me scratch my head as to why.

Mine arrived yesterday and overall I am loving it so far. I always appreciated the POTF2 version, but this one sure is an improvement. While I do appreciate that the moss is scene specific, there is a part of me that wishes Hasbro would have left it off so I could reuse the bunker for other scenes easier. Minor gripe though since most people will just use it as the Endor Bunker. I decided to just leave Nik Sant carded since I already have the old (TAC?) Collector's Tin version loose. For $60 I certainly wouldn't have minded some additional accessories or another pack-in, but those days are long past.

Yeah, I was pretty pleased with this. I wish they could have at least thrown in a cardboard background for the corridor, but I'll probably create something soon. I need to do some scene work with this one, which probably means a paper mache hill with vegetation and leaves for the Ewoks to stand along the top. Of course, I also need a shelf for it, so it'll be a little while.

Thanks! I was working on that insert last month, luckily Nicklab hooked me up with a collector who already had one in hand. I sent him the prototype and was able to do revisions before mine arrived. It enabled me to get it up for sale as soon as these started showing up.

That being said, I don't know if I am keeping mine for the long run, just to take pictures of this and 2 other interior sets I am doing. For sure I am going to sell off that exclusive figure to a carded collector. I always feel guilty opening these pack ins

I don't suppose you'll ever have a view outside the window of the Nevarro Cantina, with Gideon and a bunch of Stormtroopers standing around threatening?

Thanks!

I did a whole cardstock exterior for the Nevarro Cantina set last year, and indeed on the inside I put an image of the street with Death Troopers. If it is not showing up on eBay right now it’s out of stock but will get restocked this weekend.

I would post pics but I haven't been able to link anything here in about a year...

Thanks. I don't promote stuff here because I feel like that is overstepping the boundaries of having the conversations I have cherished here for 20 years.

Plus, like I said, it's  become impossible for me to link Facebook-hosted pics here, or Rebelscum-hosted pics, so I have nothing to show.

But by all means feel free to follow all of my shameless self promotion over on Instagram  (as thecardboardgalaxy) or Facebook ( @Cardboard Galaxy there.)
