The Vintage Collection / Re: 2024 TVC Wave 7 (New TVC Wave 39)
« on: August 13, 2024, 12:43 AM »
My problem isn't the choice of repack in principle, it's still the total lack of product for that show.

Two Cassians one of which has a totally inaccurate imperial uniform, a clone trooper, Vel Sartha, and the droid from the Disney pack.  The second and final season is in the works and they've announced Dedra and a repacked K-2SO.  If I'm not mistaken that's all.  It's a horrible effort for such a phenomenal show.  The Acolyte is a hot mess that aired like 2 months ago and it already has gotten more unique figures.

Fair, and agreed. Andor/Rogue One are by far my favorite Disney-Era content, and for the most part any figures from those two are at the very top of my wishlists. It is definitely frustrating to see so little come out of them on Hasbro's end.

I guess this K-2SO does ultimately take up a spot in the line that could have gone toward a new figure... but my hope is that there are at least a few more figure reveals for Season 2 coming later this year, and that K-2SO just ended up taking the place of some other repack/rerelease. I guess that all remains to be seen though.

As far as repacks go, I'm fine with it. K-2SO is maybe my favorite droid in SW, it's an awesome droid design, the figure is fantastic, and he can double as an army builder. I like the new Andor card too, I'll probably pick up a few more to add to the Imperial ranks.

Shipping next week according to Jayson.

Pulse is now showing that, too. Jabba is also still sold out. I wonder how much additional stock Pulse will get after preorders are fulfilled? They still have the Throne Room set in stock, it seems like there may be some people who skipped the Throne Room originally that might get both if they are both available at the same time.

The Vintage Collection / Re: San Diego Comic Con 2024 Reveals
« on: July 27, 2024, 04:17 AM »
I am so glad we finally got Baylan & Shin pipelined... those two were drastically needed. Deedra too, but I wish she had a whole wave of other Andor figures to go with her.

The Maul-dalorian is lame since we had one two years ago. I'm happy to get that outfit of Obi-Wan... but we've had enough Obi-Wans in the last few years that he would have been pretty low-down on my list. The Clone LT is an obvious repaint of the new sculpt, I'll take a few. I can't believe we didn't get a Darth Teeth reveal of any kind but I guess I'll take more of the Acolyte-era Jedi.

Overall I really liked most of what they revealed, but echoing Jeff, I wish there were a few surprises in the reveals that hadn't already been pipelined.

The Vintage Collection / Re: 2024 TVC Blurrg & The Mandalorian

I love him. Almost no complaints with this one. I would have taken added rocker ankles to the Mando pack-in, but I am primarily buying this for the Blurgg. I think I will start with three, and if they ever really a second with Kuill, I can repurpose one or two to an Endor display.

It is GREAT to have beasts back in the line. Hopefully, some new Banthas & Dewbacks will follow this in the next two years.

Maybe it is just the promo pictures, but this set is just a little bit of a letdown for me, mostly based on the paint apps. The sculpts and contents are all okay, but the paint feels really flat & 2-D on everything pictured. I guess it is an easy enough fit to repaint it on my own, but I'd rather have had it a bit better looking out of the box. I do like the new Grogu. He feels like the most drastically different version we've had since the first one came out in TVC.

I am curious how well those extra helmets will fit on the Shriek-Hawk Mandalorian set figures for some easy customs. I'm hoping they can be easily mixed & matched to fill out the covens ranks.

Gimmie.

I love that they went back to the more standard looking Deluxe cards & blisters... but I am still not sure if this release is worth the price jump over a regular figure, or that anything here makes this figure "Deluxe". The figure itself looks great, though. I still want a version of Cobb without the armor, but I am really happy to finally get him in TVC. As for the cardback, I don't want to complain too much given that it is no longer just the plain boxed deluxe, but I'd rather have had a deeper multilayered blister on a standard-sized cardback. The larger cards don't fit as well in a carded display if you try to organize by VC#. Nothing in this large or "Deluxe" enough that it really needs a large blister to display.

These last three make me feel a little bit better about this wave overall. I dug this outfit for Ahsoka and like that they included the longer lekku here. I'm happy to be getting this version of her. Even if it is just a simple modification of a standard Stormtrooper, I loved the Jetpack Trooper design from the games and will be in for a small squad of these guys. The facial likeness on Thrawn is AWESOME... BUT... I really wish they would have given him an updated torso with his "Ahsoka" era paunch & slightly tattered uniform after years of isolation, the headswap only is a bit of a letdown. The cardbacks for all three look great at least.

Overall, the wave is a solid MEH, and a bit of a letdown to close the year out on.

Weird numbering choice for Din. I am definitely not overly excited for these two. The barbell hips, improved plastic for the darksaber, and new packpack are a nice upgrades and all... but none of them are really something I particularly needed or wanted this soon after their initial releases.

They could have at least given Bo Katan a new headsculpt w/ her longer Season 3 hair cut and given Din the two blasters he is pictured with on the card. (I think Nick mentioned this too in the SDCC thread.) These just feel lazy.

I'd rather have something else, but this set looks good. At least they are including new parts with some of these releases, looks like we get two new headsculpts, all-new belts/kamas, a new cloak, & then they mixed things up by throwing Paz Vizsla's torso on one of them. For some reason I was expecting this as a troop-builder pack, not a Special-Action-Figure-Set. I'm in for two.

Why must they add an army builder figure in a playset.  She even bragged that they specifically do that!

So you'll string together a very long hallway at $60 a pop.

Like 4 for example...  :-X

This one looks really good, not quite an OT-era Star Destroyer/Death Star Hallway, but it will make a decent stand-in. I like that they made the lights swappable. The doors look awesome, especially when compared to the Nevarro cantina this feels like one of the better diorama sets. I am also in the pro-generic-army-builder-pack-in camp. Since I likely already have a few of the pack-in figure loose (or close enough), it makes for a nice extra carded figure if I don't feel compelled to buy multiple sets.

I ended up preordering four sets to start, but before December I may drop that down to two and then pick up a few more sets later when it eventually goes on sale.

The Vintage Collection / Re: Do You Keep a Carded Set of TVC?

I have been playing with the idea of building a nice-looking pegboard or carded display shelf of sorts to allow me to easily rotate what I have up on the wall and store 3x4 as many figures in the same amount of wall space.

Kenner Retro Collection / Re: 3rd Party Kenner Retro-Style Toys
« on: July 17, 2024, 03:57 PM »
I haven't done any of these 3rd Party toys since I don't really do much Vintage collecting... But with the Hasblab Cantina coming I am thinking about picking up that ball speeder for the shelf. TLDR on the drama, is Stan Solo's site the "safe" one to order from or is that the one run by the con-artist sounding fellow?

It's fun to see this one dusted off! I'd love it if we could get at least 1-2 of these guys over the next year or two. Thanks for putting this together Jeff! It is really interesting to see how the names have changed over time and that we are still learning details about how the scene was constructed and filmed nearly 50 years later.

Nice. I'm in on this one. It's one of the better Halloween releases, it looks like it could fit into a regular shelf in jawa junkyard or something too.
