Title: Bespin wave

A very simple and yet very awesome troika of figures.  A Cloud Car Pilot has been on my wishlist forever, glad to finally have him come, same goes for the resculpted Leia and you can never have enough Lobot.

Looks like Lobot's Duplex just got one more resident :-*

Yeah, whatever happened to Lobot's Duplex? I was going to send in his name to that show on TLC While You Were Out, but it seems like the guy never goes on vacation. I guess he hasn't been the same since the Imperial takeover. Oh well.

Wow.  They're all just absolutely perfect.  Decent likeness on Leia, and a great plastic robe  ;), excellent detail on the Cloud Car Pilot, and a nice, neutral looking Lobot with some cool gadgets.  Anyone notice those articulated knees on the Cloud Car Pilot?  What do you think those could possibly be for...?   ;D

The only thing I'm mildly bummed about is that this wave isn't a little bigger than just 3 figures.  Hopefully they'll surprise us and add a couple more in there, like some new Ugnaughts and of course ICMG.   8)

At long last Leia!!   ;D This was always my favorite version as a kid, and now here she is (memory of PLC purged).  Lobot and the Cloud Car Pilot (the cloud car pilot!) are perfect.

Awesome! I like how each fig is neutrally posed and has tons of articulation. This looks like the best wave yet! (IMO)

Short of the OTC figures with super artiuclation, this is my favorite wave pictured today, easily.

-The Bespin Leia was never high on my list, because I was content with the Leia collection version.  I rather like that figure.  With that said though, this obviously is a far superior figure to one I was quite happy with already.  The headsculpt is one of (if not the) best Carrie Fisher likenesses ever.  The articulation in the arms seems nice, and above par...  For all the more she did in the outfit, it's nice anyway.  Too bad her Bespin Escape figure isn't as neutrally posed and articulated!  Anyway, it's a great figure resculpt, even if I still prefer the soft goods for poseability.

-Lobot...  High frickin' time this guy got redone...  Nice articulation.  Weird accessories...  Short of somehow lighting his cyborg implant things up, he's great looking.  Nice "apology" figure...  Some extra articulation would've been sort of cool though.  Just in the legs maybe, so he couold be "running" with some Bespin Guards to escape, or defend, or just so he could boogy down like he used to.

-Cloud Car Pilot....  Simply great figure.  I can't tell the articulation in the arms at the moment, but his legs are heavily articulated.  Do I see a possibly removable communicator device?  Or was that thing a macro-monocular?  Working holster with blaster pistol?  Great!  Great sculpt, and coloring to match-up to the puppet used in the Cloud Car itself.  If he has a removable helmet, he'll simply be that much more great.

Now, if only they'd take his body sculpt, repaint it to the ICMG colors, and make hima new headsculpt.  :)

Great wave, easily my favorite pictured today.  That pilot's gonna stand out on pegs too.  Really great stuff.

These figures are outstanding; I hope this trend of great quality continues into the EPIII line.

Lobot - looks very vanilla, exactly the way he should be.  I could have gone for some knee articulation, but I am not complaining

Leia - a lovely figure, very simple and well done; I will try to get a couple extra to make into custom Coruscant women citizens

CC Pilot - probably my favorite of the bunch since it's a first issue since the vintage days, and I plan on getting a squad of 8-10 of these guys.  They will look cool in dioramas for Bespin, Tatooine, Coruscant, etc.  You're right Jesse, I hope his helmet comes off; it looks like it might, and I think his arm articulation is at the standard shoulder points and probably at the ends of his gloves.

You know what makes this wave so awesome?  The pure simplicity of the figures in their poses, but the nice added articulation.  No gimmicks, just well scultped figures with useful articulation.  I do hope they include a 4th figure in the wave at least, I could go for the Jeromy Bulloch as an Imperial Officer or a head variation to the Bespin Guard.

Post by: speedermike on February 13, 2004, 11:26 PM
Yeah.  Gotta agree, these look great.  I noticed also that the CCP has that little comminicator thing clipped to his belt.  Very nice nod to the vintage.  And yes, it's great he has articulated knees, he wont really need him if we get the Clouod Car.  Like all vintage vehicles, figures sit in it with stright legs.

Now, I am assuming that these will be the last on Saga Cards?

No, I think these will be on OTC Cards, the Original report on these over at SSG said that the mockups of the Dagobah Wave were on these new OTC cards

You know, I like this entire wave (and basically all we've been seeing lately, for that matter), and I will pick up all of them if I can find them.  For some reason I really just think that Cloud Car Pilot is "neato".  Even though it has some bright colors, something about the design just seems cool to me.  I never had the vintage one, but I think I'll try to pick one of those up too sometime.  It is one of the more colorful designs of Star Wars characters, but it just looks classic "space movie" to me, if you know what I mean.

These figures look fantastic! I’ve been holding my breath for years for a good Bespin Leia and even longer, perhaps decades, for a new Cloud Car Pilot. I especially like the fact that Leia has a plastic sculpted cape and all of the figures have a decent amount of articulation that isn't too gaudy. The knee articulation on the CCP gives me hope. I'm gonna go out on a limb and predict that we will get confirmation for the Twin Pod Cloud Car by years end.

GH (http://www.galactichunter.com/absolutenm/templates/full_article_template_1.asp?articleid=2442&zoneid=2) has some nice shots of the Bespin Wave Loose up, loving that helmetless CCPilot :)

Post by: SilverZ on March 7, 2004, 10:53 PM
Well ain't that a pleasant surprise. The CCP looks cool w/o the helmet - the original picks made it look like it was molded on.

The other's are pretty slick as well still. Can't wait until we see packaged shots. The case breakdown makes me think I'll pick this up as a case online. I have no desire to search high and low for a Stormtrooper on OTC packaging at 1 per case.
Title: Re: Bespin wave
Post by: Jesse James on March 7, 2004, 11:51 PM
CCP's shaping up to be one of the best of the line I do believe...  Sporting good articlutionl (could use some elbow hinges though), and a bitchin' removable helmet...  Love the nod to the vintage with the gun.  I wonder about the communicator coming off though?

Lobot and Leia are less than interesting to me, as neither outfit or character really stood out...  Nonetheless though, they're much MUCH superior versions to previous figures, and Lobot's computer is a great little detail...  Way to go Hasbro.

CCP's the gem of that wave though for usre.  Not exactly 100% to the little maquette figure in the model, but great still.  Very colorful duds too.

Nice to see some more pics of this wave, and I agree, these all really look fantastic to me.  The Cloud Car pilot is actually one of my most anticipated figures, it just looks "cool" to me for some reason (for lack of a better word).  One of the better faces on a Leia figure I think too, and looks like there is some good detail in her gown as well.  Lobot looks good too, I never picked up a modern one since I got into collecting late...and since the POTF2 version wasn't too good.  This one looks great, glad I waited.  For all of our complaints about repacks and the like, Hasbro really is putting out some great work this year.

Preordered. Hopefully they'll come through on these in reasonable time. They've been getting ignored by Hasbro on the last few waves. The last new case they recieved was the Tatooine wave right around Xmas time.

I'd order a case if it wasn't for all the "extra" figures after the Bespin wave.  This is one I may just try retail on.  I do want a "Squad" of CCP's.  One of my favorite Vintage Figures.  Sadly the Vintage Pilots are going to have to give up their Pod Car to the new guys.

Bespin Leia looks good for what she is. and the new Lobot should pretty much be the definative version.(which means he'll be repackaged and repacked 100 times before 2018)

I'm pretty excited for this wave as well.  I've been hoping we'd get versions of all three of these, and all look to be done very well.  For some reason that Cloud Car pilot just looks so cool to me too.

I'm even more excited for these now. Perfect figures. Except for the paintjob on their Leia, which looks to be entirely shifted left on the figure by a centimeter. Hopefully that's not a common error.

Title: Re: Bespin wave
Post by: Jesse James on June 2, 2004, 04:12 PM
Taking a look over yonder at GH's preview, I noticed a few things...

-Leia...  I'm overall pretty happy, and while the attempt at "sheer" spacey fabric is different I'm not really disappointed with it.  The figur'es what it should be to me...  Simple, effective...  Accurate headsculpt.  A softgoods skirt with bendable knees might've been nice just so she could sit, but she's cool nonetheless.

-Lobot...  Pretty great really.  I rank him in there as being similar to a Senator figure.  No need for flashy articulation, no need for goofy gimmicks...  no need for any pose really.  Just a nice vanilla cyborg.  His implant thing coming out is weird, but I assume it's not intended to.  The accessories rock and Hasbro gets an A for creativity in designing some "just off-screen" doo-dads for him.  Nice figure, and nice apology for POTF2 version.

Now, the figure I actually had a problem with is the one I was hoping I'd love the most...

-Cloud Car Pilot...  Not that he's bad by any means, but what the hell is up with Hasbro insisting on making "leaning" action figures?  That lean doesn't totally ruin him, but it sure as **** detracts from an otherwise PERFECT action figure.

I don't get it...  Why would they do this?  Why'd they do it to Ach Med Beq, Lt. Faytonni, and the Clone Pilot as well?  Is there some odd sculptor at Hasbro who specializes in figures who lean?  Does this sculptor perhaps have a condition where he himself is constantly leaning to one side so when he sculpts figures they lean as well?

I want answers to these questions because I'm tired of leaning figures.  Hasbro's new craptacular trend!

Don't do stuff like this...  :(  Faytonni and Beq would be ultimate Custom Fodder if they didn't lean.  CCP would be a simply amazing figure if he didn't lean.  Other figures in the past were "ruined" by a lean that kept them from being truly great!

STOP IT!  JUST STOP IT!  :-X

There...  Said my peace.  Whoever did that sculpt's a real jag-off for doing that.   >:(

Really nice accessories though...  Love the belt/holster thing.  The blaster and communicator are cool nods to the vintage figure too, and the helmet's see-through visor rocks as well.

Just wish that sculpt were NOT leaning.
Title: Re: Bespin wave
Post by: Jeff on June 3, 2004, 08:44 AM
I love the see-through visor on the CCP helmet.  VERY cool.

Leia's dress is a little strange, but I think it's just the paintjob/lighting.  The sculpt looks great though!

Lobot!  No wide stance!  Can't wait to see Lobot's Duplex updated with this guy.  They must be going nuts over at LD waiting for this guy!  :P

Since he's from Bespin, and a pseudo-new figure, I'm adding this here instead of the re-hash thread...

Galactichunter.com (http://www.galactichunter.com/absolutenm/templates/full_article_template_1.asp?articleid=2943&zoneid=2) has a nifty feature up on the OTC Bespin Luke.

Check out this picture:
Bespin Luke Comparison Photo (http://www.galactichunter.com/absoluteig/gallery.asp?action=viewimage&categoryid=3321&text=&imageid=10832&box=&shownew=)

It's a GREAT comparison of the Saga (Beat-Down) version and the newer one from OTC.  The coloration on his outfit is more vintage-brown than the Saga yellowy color.  VERY nice.  I waffled on this one earlier, but I really like the changes now that I've seen better pictures of Luke.

Now, I'm definately gonna pick up one of these bad boys.  That way, I can have a Bespin Luke ready to take on Vader near the Freeze Chamber, while my Saga version cowers on the weather vane after Darth kicked his butt.

If only there were more of these cool re-hashes mixed into the OTC...

Jeff
Title: Re: Bespin wave
Post by: Brian on June 15, 2004, 11:07 AM
I agree Jeff, this is the type of rehash I don't mind at all.  That was one of my problems with the Bespin Luke the first time around, it was a really nice figure (even with the action feature and "battle damage"), but I always thought it would be nice to have a clean, "normal" version too.  I'll definitely pick this up if I find it, and I don't mind some of these figures that have some updated paint...or that I missed before (actually looking forward to the Gam. Guard as well).

It's nice, just wish it had a better hair/head sculpt.

One that was less sweaty and matted, any ideas on a good head swap?

X-Wing Luke perhaps (minus the buckteeth)

Hmmm...

X-Wing Pilot Luke would be a good one.

If you want an X-Wing Luke head, let me know and I'll mail ya one... I've got a 5 or 6 left over from Rogue Squadron Pilot Customs I've done.  All you have to to is use an exacto knife to get rid of the teeth paint.

Opened these bad boys last night.  Love the Cloud Car Pilot, disappointed in his elbows though.  The helmet is awesome.

Lobot is great as well, perfectly good for the rest of time

And BEspin Leia is also nice for what she is, I was able to pull out a bunch of POTF2 rejects this weekend from the shelves...Dengar, Bossk, Dagobah Luke and the First Yoda, Bespin Leia, Lobot.  Now what do I do with them?
Title: Re: Bespin wave
Post by: Brian on July 12, 2004, 10:39 AM
I usually do the same thing Scott, once there is a "superior" version of the figure released, the old POTF2 sculpts get packed away.  I just don't have the room to leave both of them out.  Nice to hear your thoughts on the Bespin wave as well, I hope that shows up around here soon.  Really looking forward to the Cloud Car Pilot for some reason, as well as Lobot.  And, the Leia looks poised to replace the PLC version I have on the shelves as of now.

Quick side question for you...are you getting two of each of the "new" OTC figures, or just ones to open.  I found the Dagobah wave this weekend, but haven't opened them up yet...they are just so purty :).  I am an opener, and I want them opened up, but a part of me is just holding off for some reason.  I guess its just packaging, but it just looks nice.  Anyways, congrats on scoring the Bespin wave.....for those not picking up the repacks, it should be quite a break for awhile, Star Wars figure wise.

Hey!  How did your case get here before mine?

rasafrasa  >:(

Anyway, MY EE wave 8 and 10 should be here today according to the delivery tracking... After I get those cases, I should have OTC 1-21, 26-28.  Sweet!

I've got a Q for you (since I can't wait until I get home and look at my own dang figures), did you try the CCP helmet on a regular head?  I am considering head-swaps for customs, just wondering if the CCP helmet will look strange on a non-"hooded" head.

Also, on you superfluous PotF2 figures, I did the following this weekend as I revamped the SW room to make room for the OTC:

Dengar - added PotF2 version to Jabba's Palace
Bossk - added PotF2 version to Jabba's Palace
Dagobah Luke - seated in my vintage Yoda's Hut with PotF2 Yoda
Leia Collection Bespin Leia - trash ;)  (ok, stashed in my custom fodder pile)

In other words, if I didn't have a good spot for them in a diorama/scene or something, I chucked them in the "custom fodder" pile.

I'm resisting getting a carded set because I refuse to support Hasbro's decision to screw the collector in this whole bit.  I agree that these cards as awesome as anything I have ever seen, but in the end its just a way to make sure it gets from Hasbro to me with all of the accessories (which Lobot's laptop is one of the best of all time)

I've fondled the packaging enough and its a great bit of work, hopefully they stick with it for Episode III (the backgrounds behind the figures and the lava dressing the sides instead of the retro bars)

And with that with the exception of the 24 VOTC I need to buy I should be done until November when the 2005 figures start to hit.  My wife will be more than happy...no more SImpsons, not really thinking of picking up much for LOTR and Brent will be getting me Culpepper and Moss in Sportspicks.  Guess its time to get more into Kubricks :P

Thanks Hasbro for giving my wallet a rest

Agreed about the packaging Scott, it is very nice.  I think I will end up busting those open tonight, I really want to take a closer look at them and put them in the display.  I know what you mean, even though it kind of stinks that there is so many repacks, my wallet will appreciate the break.  I'm still on the lookout for the VOTC (would like to get two of these as well), the Bespin wave, and a few of the repacks (Bespin Luke, Gam. Guard, Slave Leia, General Lando).  Otherwise, I'm on a break too the way it looks.  Probably diverting more money to Marvel stuff if possible in the meantime :), and if that slows, maybe start filling holes again in the vintage collection.  I suppose if I want to get two sets of the VOTC figures though, that will be more than enough money spent anyways :o.  I've only gotten the Han so far (via Amazon), and it is amazing, probably my favorite figure of all time....but I don't know if this line is quite worth the $10 pricepoint.  I haven't seen any of the rest up close, but just seeing as they are "spiffier" basic figures, along the same lines as the SA Clone, they could have been regular price...or at least $7 if there would be more charge for the packaging.  Anyways...back to topic...glad to hear the Bespin wave is looking sweet.

Got my Bespin wave figures today!

CCP - very cool.  I checked it out and the Helmet doen't look too shabby on the few Army-Builder heads I have laying around, so there'll be a few customs of him in the future for me :)  Also, he much less "leaning" then lead to believe from the photos.  Very nice and neutral.

Lobot- Such a HUGE improvement from PotF2.  Very cool little CPU Accessory, and for what ever reason, his head-band is removable!

Leia- ugh.  Well, she's new and OTC, so I can't fault her on that, but she isn't as nice as I was hoping due to the dress and the fact that she seems a bit small compared to Chewie and PotJ Bespin Han.

Luke- OK, so he's not really part of the "Bespin wave" per se, but he is new and from Bespin so...  :)  This new Bespin Luke is a HUGE improvement from the Saga version.  The magnet hand is a little annoying, but the paint apps are superb!

Check out Jared's comparison photos here (http://www.jedidefender.com/yabbse/index.php?board=39;action=display;threadid=3724;start=msg65287#msg65287) for a better idea of the changes.  If you're on the Fence about Luke, pick him up and you'll see he's a LOT better than the Saga version!

I wonder why those leaning shots were so misleading, because, yeah, he seems fine to me too. Now is we only had a Cloud Car. It blows my mind that they'd miss the opportunity to sell a vehicle that required not one, but two identical carded figures to accurately "fly".

What really did it on this guy, for me, was the color accuracy. He's much closer to the right look this time around. Standing the POTF2 and OTC versions side by side is hilarious. The old one goes in my pile of outcasts in the company of R5, Dr. Evanzan, and Uncle Owen. That little datapad sure reminds me of an old Playmates Star Trek accessory though.  :-\

Really? She works fine for me, but then again I didn't have too many expectations or needs out of her. I think she's small, but seems about right when scaled with the BE Leia, so I'm cool with her.

Looking back on Luke and putting him next to the Dagobah version, he's still pretty groovy, by man, I'd sure like a VOTC style ultimate one now. The size proportions and detail on the Dagobah one really outdo this guy. Not to put down a perfectly good figure,
but there seems to have been some great progress on depicting Mark Hamill in plastic since the apology Jedi Luke.

Finally got this wave today (thanks to UPS for sending my package to Maumee, OH instead of Gladstone, MI..wtf??), anyways....

Lobot is the best of the bunch.  Size and coloring are perfect and the head sculpt leaves me speechless.  Hasbro has really done a great job on this one as well as the cloud car pilot and Leia.  Her coloring in the duster is off in the design but I can overlook it as I like the fact they did the design on the inside of the it.  Fantastic touch and her size and face scuplt are fine with me.
The cloud car pilot looks decent enough, I wasn't expecting the helmet to look as good as it does on so all in all, two thumbs up.  Now only if the rest of the case wasn't repacks but it's better than ALL repacks.
