VC97 Clone Pilot OddBall
VC98 Grand Moff Tarkin
VC99 Vintage Nikto
VC100 Starkiller
VC101 Shae Vizsla
-
There's only 2 I want in this wave and I'd say Nikto is the winner. The facial sculpt is just off somewhere on Tarkin... and the color of his tunic.
-
I'm hoping the actual production figure is better, but I hear you...I'm only interested in two of these figures.
-
Yeah... this might be the oddest wave of the bunch.
A Clone Pilot redo that could have waited until ROTD:3D, an oddly colored Tarkin upgrade, yet another Starkiller figure, a gal from an on-line game, and one of the most requested Kenner re-dos?
What a strange mix. Nikto looks great though!
-
I'm giving Tarkin the benefit of the doubt for now, but if they completely f up his redo I'll be pissed off.
I'm very, very hopeful the color is altered and his headsculpt looks better with a different deco. That one looks oddly young on him.
-
I really like Tarkin except for the lame soft goods skirt. Nikto looks fantastic! The others I just do not want them at all.
-

Yeah someone at Hasbro really ought've piped up and said that looked awful. There is so much other goodness coming out this year I can live with it. I'll just pass on the figure if it looks bad.
-
VC97 Clone Pilot OddBall - seriously? What is it with the clones still?
VC98 Grand Moff Tarkin - the cloth bit has to go, but I like him.
VC99 Vintage Nikto - very cool.
VC100 Starkiller - cool but I don't play the games.
VC101 Shae Vizsla - ditto.
-
Does the softgoods skirt give anyone else hope that the table and chairs may be on the way? Otherwise why the skirt on Tarkin ya know? You didn't even do softgoods on the Death Star Trooper, yet, you do on Tarkin... Odd, no?
-
It's very odd and I thought of the chair also. But that would mean we'd be buying another Tarkin, in a battle pack or something. Doesn't really make sense.
-
I'm with you guys on the soft goods for Tarkin. I'm sure he has ball jointed hips, but he really doesn't need them. The Nikto sure is a pleasant and welcome surprise.
-
Pretty pumped that the rumored Tarkin is on the way, I'm hoping the color is fixed as well. It seems to vary somewhat depending on which site's pictures you look at, so maybe it isn't quite as green as it seems. The Nikto is of course awesome too. I'm a little puzzled at the continued clonetastic waves coming this year, with Attack of the Clones 3D just around the corner. You would think they could save these up for that. The other video game figures look nicely done, but I don't really care about them too much otherwise.
-
If anyone gets a chair, I hope it's Palpatine.
-
If anyone gets a chair, I hope it's Palpatine.
He's got one!
-
Yeah, but the only one who looks good in that is the preposed statue from that cinema scene. Ever other Emperor figure looks smashed in there.
And I know there's an ornament that can be used, but I'd love a proper one.
-
The ornament is pretty sweet but takes some work to make it perfect unfortunately. Still, it's nice.
-
I've never really been one to beg Hasbro for a new Tarkin or even going out of my way to buying it unless I had some spare cash, but I too was disappointed with the soft goods tunic. It looks off.
-
To be fair it's a prototype too though... Who knows what the final thing is gonna look like. It could be a lot better. I'm ok with softgoods as long as it looks like a smoother fabric. Something like the ROTS Agen Kolar's skirt... It's smoother, and a rigid fabric.
I'm all for a flexible tunic skirt though too... Like the Naboo pilots have. It's pretty great really.
Tarkin was one of my top ANH wants, so to say I'm not disappointed isn't true, but I'm just trying to give the benefit of the doubt. The color needs a little more grey to the green, the headsculpt needs a better paintjob (I think it's a pretty decent suclpt though), and the softgoods need a better choice. The last one can easily change on a production figure though considering softgoods seem to vary based on what's available at the time the figuers are made though.
-
Nikto is the only figure I really need from this wave, unless Tarkin turns out a lot better than the prototype we saw at Toy Fair. Passing on the rest

Oddball carded
http://www.sandtroopers.com/sandwatch/hasbro/20120315/ (http://www.sandtroopers.com/sandwatch/hasbro/20120315/)
He's standing in spaaace.
-
What would have been awesome would be just a picture of the ship. THAT would be a vintage call-back.
-
Lovin' Oddball... Don't know why but Clone pilot repaints I'm ok with compared to other Clone crap these days.
-
Don't know why but Clone pilot repaints I'm ok with compared to other Clone crap these days.
I like the change from trooper, trooper, trooper. The AT-RT Driver was a really nice upgrade. I wish they'd keep spreading the love around. Mixing in a new Clone Pilot repaint or even updating some other Clone styles/sculpts (Galactic Marine, Airborne, AT-TE Gunner) would help relieve some of the constant "trooper trooper trooper" repainting fatigue we've been getting lately...
-
Bly is an upgrade I'd like to see... Removable helmet and all that jazz. He could be better. I'd like to have seen a Gree upgrade too without painted on suspenders and a removable helmet with a realistic version of his headsculpt with its Clone Wars funky hair and stuff. Like a miniaturized Sideshow figure.
-
I sort of agree with Jeff. However, I am primarily tired of ROTS Clonetrooper figures. I'm fine with AOTC because we have not had as many of those since The EE 4 packs. I like the clonetroopers from ROTS but I am just burnt out from all of the repacks of them since 2005. I know they have upgrades over the years but who does not have a Shocktrooper, 501st, Utapau, and white-generic armies by now? Between regular releases, movie heroes, and battle-packs we should be all caught up and then some by now. I suppose new collectors or those that don't care for clonetroopers in the past might want to pursue them. I just want a break from that style. I know it has some sort of fancy name like "Phase 2" or something like that.
I am actually looking forward to the inevitable Blue, Green, Yellow, and Red AOTC style clonetroopers. I would not mind upgrades to Bly and Baccarra either but maybe not until the end of next year or when the ROTS comes out in 3D. If they are still planning to release the films each year that is.
-
I'd add in Bacara too, to my "I'd not mind him getting updated" list of ROTS Clones too... but at this stage I'm pretty much disinterested in Clones. I have huge Clone armies I really don't know what to do with. Even AOTC I'm pretty spent on. Maybe an officer here or there would be nice, but Hasbro doesn't even try to entice us with a new piece of gear on those.
Like include binoculars maybe? Or thermal detonators? Or something to make them a little more interesting. I guess they just started giving you two guns fairly recently instead of the short blaster, so baby steps I suppose.
-
I'd LOVE some AOTC officers with Jango style jetpacks ala Battlefront. Maybe a BFG too.
-
The one ROTS Clone resculpt that I would give a pass is the Galactic Marine. Re-do that one with a softgoods kama and I'm sold. It was definitely one of the coolest ROTS Clones, but the plastic kama was a downer.
-
Doesn't anything with a softgoods Kama update seem like a good one then though? That's a big reason I'd like a Bacara resculpt or Bly (and I'd really REALLY dig the removable bucket for the Clone Wars Bly look)... Gree, I mostly just really want realistic looking suspenders as opposed to the painted one ones that look odd.
That said, honestly, I'd never shed a tear if none of this got done... Maybe that says the most about Clones right now. Who really woudl freak out if they never updated another ROTS Clone? Would anyone honestly be mad, or feel their collection had a gaping hole in it?

Carded images up at sandtroopers (http://www.sandtroopers.com/sandwatch/hasbro/20120328/).
Tarkin looks better...maybe...hard to tell.
-
Definitely better, and a scaled, detailed Mousedroid is a nice improvement too. Finally can get rid of the one on steroids, and the Micromachines ones I'd been using as fill-ins. Love that little touch.
I like the color on this one a bit more. It looks a little more grey, and a little less green. Paul's usually got a better eye for this detail than I do, so I'm curious what his thoughts will be.
Also not a huge fan of the softgoods skirt here. They've done flexible plastic skrits with slits on the side to accomodate sitting, and that would've done well here, however the fabric they chose is nicer looking, and the length is right. He had an oddly high belt. :) Typical old dude.
-
Why is there an arrow pointing to Vader's crotch and why do they want me to push it?
-
It makes him breathe heavy.
-
The long shaft he's gripping turns red.
-
Here we go.

Christ, could those pics be any smaller? There's a bad joke to be made here. ;)
POTF2 now has bigger pics here (http://www.potf2.com/potj/forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=17141).
Tarkin looks great, but it's still hard to look past that soft goods, I think JJ is right in that soft plastic with a cut/split may have been the better way to go. I understand why they did it, so he can sit, but I'm not sure the execution is quite right.
-
agreed. plastic skirt thingy would have been better. thanks for the link to the bigger pics
-
If he isn't given a chair to sit in at some point, this skirt on him is ultimately incredibly silly.
-
I would go for some soft good Galactic marines
and as far as Im concerned they have still never given us a decent kashyyk trooper for yodas crew
other than that I have ( with the exception of phase one on Kamino)
good representations of every on screen clone shown and in the numbers shown on screen.
-
Yeah, Kashyyyyk shorties they made didn't quite cut it... (even worse now that they new clones they are making are taller than the older version!) I almost liked the recolored ROTJ scout trooper better.
And with that vintage boxed AT-AP showing Kashyyyk troopers, I'm in the mood to buy more. Silly, Hasbro advertizing figures not at retail.

Also posted to Entertainment Earth...
Vintage Wave 15 (http://www.entertainmentearth.com/aff-home.asp?id=JE-405087801&number=HS37499E)
It's a good case, I'm just really bummed to see they didn't include any good army builders in it, at all. :( Especially when the regular humans have been in such short supply since last year, unless you're an Endor Rebel. Even the Naboo Royal Guard is one of the only TPM wave to go. I'm a bit bummed on that, but Malgus making a return is good for sure. I think he's gonna be a bear.
-
I am so tired of the non-existence of product at retail, I happily ordered two of these cases.
It will essentially mean I'm "done" with the Wave 3 and Wave 5 figures minus scoring two Imperial Navy Commander figures and Realistic CW Anakin to open.
I don't care about the card variants on the Bespin Han re-release wave (I'm sure I'll see those in plentiful supply anyway).
If I stumble on this case in plentiful supply before this pre-order ships then I'll cancel it, but with the way things have been going, I don't think that's happening...
-
Is this wave 14 or 15??
10 TPM
11 Deleted Scene
12 Evazan
13 Malgus
14 Tarkin
-
Technically 14... 14 was to be the "We didn't make enough of this **** in 2010 & 2011 wave", but that seems to be on the burner since it's all mixed into other waves.
I'm going with "2012 Wave 5" at this point.
-
Just not knowing how retail is going to shape up this year, I went ahead and preordered a "set" as I usually do at BBTS. I have to be honest though, I think of the set of six that Tarkin and Nikto are the two that I really want from the wave.
-
Yeah we called all of the rereleases Wave 14 and this is 15
-
I might actually order this case. Only 3 figures I already have.
-

On the NYCC'11 slides (http://www.jedidefender.com/gallery/imageFolio.cgi?action=view&link=Conventions/New_York_Comic_Con_2011/Hasbro_Star_Wars/Official_Presentation_Slides&image=026.jpg&img=16&tt=), Hasbro called the Malgus Wave out as 2012 Wave 3, Evazan Wave was 2012 Wave 4 and the 2011 repacks (Bespin Han, Wedge, Gammy, Bariss, etc) were being called 2012 Wave 5. The TF'12 slides called the Tarkin Wave as Wave 6, so it gets to be Wave 15 overall. ;)

The Navy trooper not being carried forward is Hasbro's message to scalpers - this is the one to get. Sure, the EU figures aren't also carried forward, but they're not army builders.
-
I wish they'd release the Navy Trooper as part of a deluxe with a circular command console.
-

Exactly
I don't know what I'm gonna do with the Imperial Navy Commander figure - it is the biggest hole in my current coverage plans for the Vintage line...
And since that wave has come and mostly gone from the on-line retailers, I'm thinking that if I haven't seen it at retail, I'm never gonna see it at retail...
-
He could end up being the next Wedge... but on this figure, it's an all new sculpt and a cool army builder. Wedge was pretty much just a different head on an outdated Luke body.
-
I wish they'd release the Navy Trooper as part of a deluxe with a circular command console.
That would rock.
-
I'd be happy to just see him re-released... For the deluxe, I'd prefer seeing some reworking of him to a Death Squad Commander grey variation, and the console, since that's the dude in the console and all.
Leave the black ones carded and available in bulk... I hope a revision shows he's coming back later, or they put more out at some point later in the year. The good thing is his wave, or any of them, could wind up being absurdly easy to find. At this point it's almost too early to panic which if any figures out of these new cases will be "rare".
-
The command console could have some sort electronic built in, to where you press a button, and it replays Han's conversation with the Imperial officer or something, and also a laser blast and an explosion sound. That way Hasbro can get the "kid" factor in it.
I like Jesse's idea for if they did that, to keep the black outfits in basic cards and the gray one with the deluxe.
-
I like the light-up or sound idea... or both. For the price, you should get both.
-
It would be a fun display item, I would think... and a lot of people would probably want multiples.
-
Galactichunter has some super nice pics of this wave - at least I am pretty sure it is this wave...
http://www.galactichunter.com/gh/story/vintage-wave-5-carded-hi-res
-
I think I can say based on the images in the link below that the new Tarkin sucks.
http://www.galactichunter.com/gh/story/image-bank-review-vc98-grand-moff-tarkin (http://www.galactichunter.com/gh/story/image-bank-review-vc98-grand-moff-tarkin)
I'd even say the POTF2 version looks better in some ways. But I'll probably buy the new one anyway.
-
I have to agree that he is a mixed bag for sure. Here is hoping for a Target Vint 3pk with a grey version....
-
I like the sculpt, but the green's a bit too green, and the headsculpt's paintjob is so ****** it kind of ruins it.
-
It's the skirt that blows it for me. God. That looks like hell.
-
Ugh... so bad, dude.
-
Why is OT Tarkin wearing PT Tarkin boots?
I can't focus on how suck the skirt is while he is wearing those abominations. If anyone should have on Officers riding boots, it should be him.
-
I gotta agree on the "skirt" too. I don't mind fabric, but that's not the fabric they needed to use. I think back to the ROTS Agen Kolar... That would've been a far better choice. What they chose looks like burlap. How horrid and not even color-matching that is.
The headsculpt I think is good, they just have an attrocious paintjob on him there. Yikes.
This figure's a pure mess, ultimately.
-
I've been looking forward to a new Tarkin for so long that I wanted to like it, but I just can't get past the soft goods. I'd love to see them figure out a way they could use a thin rubber-like plastic that could be colour and texture matched.
-
Seconded... I wanted to like it too, but the color's way too off, the headsculpt's deco is attrocious, and the softgoods was a mistake in the first place that could've been salvaged but was ultimately f'd up worse than I imagined it could be.
This is sort of an epic fail. I'm highly disappointed. The POTF2's deco is miles superior, and shows how this one should've been decoed.
-
I dunno. Not ideal, but I don't thinks it's an abomination. I think we have too many expectations for this much anticipated figure which tends to psych Hasbro into trying to put too much into it. In trying to anticipate our reaction, they err.
The uniform color. Yeah, too green. I'm sure there would have been complaints no matter what the shade.
The cloth skirt - I know people aways complain about characters who can't use their swivel hips properly, but one would think that Hasbro would have the cloth below the belt thing down to a science.
-
The skirt looks terrible to me. The brown splotches look bad as well, but that is more easy to fix. Hopefully there will be a "variant" with no brown splotches - similar to the Kithaba and Evazan variants.
-
The uniform color. Yeah, too green. I'm sure there would have been complaints no matter what the shade.
Unless it was the right shade of course, which is a good deal lighter and a bit more grey than this one is. :P
-
Paul, I didn't even notice the boots. You're right. The figure is a total mess.
-
My case is in @ BBTS

My case is in @ BBTS
Nice! I ordered a set of six from this wave (the set includes Malgus to make it six figures) - hopefully that means I'll have them soon as well....
Yep - just checked the site and they are processing my order....
-
dang - I would love to order a set like that Pete cuz I still need Malgus... Thats a lot of $$$ though.
-
dang - I would love to order a set like that Pete cuz I still need Malgus... Thats a lot of $$$ though.
Yeah - I know....
The case assortments have been so frustrating - if one of the carry-forward figures in this case has been the Imperial Navy Commander and another had been the 501st, I would have gladly gone the route of just ordering more cases of this wave from EE - but even that has jumped to being a $140+ endeavor - so my choice was to go for 6 figures I DID need for $95 shipped or pick up an additional six I didn't for $50 more.
I keep hoping the "lost look" wave case assortment is a sign of better things to come - a case with that figure break-down was not on any of the assortment rumor lists, so here's hoping that the back half of that rumor schedule has been completely tanked.
-
My set is processing as well now, nice surprise this week. Looking forward to the OT figures, not sure how badly I need the rest though. We'll see when they get here I guess. Little disappointed seeing some of the online pics of Tarkin, but still glad we're getting him - particularly on a vintage cardback.
-
Here we go again. A lot of nothing for a long time, then everything at once. I wouldn't mind, but I have only one store out of 14 (all the WM/ Target's and TRU's) getting anything and it's wave 3. So it's a whole of lot of stuff in the pipeline that retail just isn't getting in one of the biggest metropolitan regions in the country. Go figure.
-
Some thoughts (only an opinion, never absolute trues):
Tarkin ok want to buy.... only wide stance seems to limit position as the new Nien Nunb from next wave.
Starkiller....game accurate, looks as the paintjob could be better with shades on jumsuit and harness.
Shae Vizla, the only issue is the face, cause the animation showed a woman with a more douce visage,
in the figure, her chin is stronger than in TOR first clip, also her rictus, too serius, angry
they have dimished the freshness in the original caption of that girl.
Nikto... well done, he is an evolution of the sculptīs character.
-
Looks like my two cases of this wave from Entertainment Earth are processing as well now - nice!
-

Even though they will never admit it, these gaps and fills have to be due to Factory time. It must be cheaper to run all of these together at one shot rather than consistently through the year. Add to that competing needs internally for Marvel, GI Joe and Transformers...it is a little maddening though. Especially when things like Wave 12 might not see wide release due to pegwarming city at the stores.
-
Dang... that unmasked Shae Viszla headsculpt is ugly. :-X
-
Just an FYI, the Barris figure from this case has a lot of deco changes, see below:
- Notice the blue paint op on the chest is now brown to match the skirt.
- Dark Blue Lightsaber
- Tighter face paint ops
Pete, not sure you know about this or not but this is up your alley.
-
I'm pretty sure the Barris in the Wave 4 cases was the same. But now that you point this out, I'm going to have to check for sure, I didn't notice the color of her torso matching the cloth skirt better.
I did notice the more blue blade and the crisper face tattoos in the ones I already got.
I still have my two from the Tarkin case, gonna have to compare them to the originals and the ones I got from the Wave 4 cases I got a month ago...
-
Yep, Barriss was revised for the repack wave.
-
Yep, Barriss was revised for the repack wave.
Cool - thanks for the confirmation Jayson.
-
Did they fix her club foot though? That's what I wanna know.
-
Alright...I'm trying to figure out who the vintage Nikto is. There's obviously pics of the actor in the costume, so I'm sure he was around there somewhere, but I can't see him on either skiff, or the sail barge. I checked skiffguards.com to see if I was missing anything, but I don't see him there.
Was he in the palace?
-
I believe he was on the escort skiff. He is listed as Red Nikto Guard (http://skiffguards.com/red-nikto.html) at SkiffGuards.com.
-
Ah, thanks. I guess that makes sense. I guess the name "Red Nikto Guard" was throwing me off, as he's wearing a whole lot of blue.
-
Starkiller wave is up individually for pre-order on HTS.com
and while I was typing Starkiller and the bounty hunter went oos
-
Why Starkiller always be out of stock on Hasbro.com?!!! >:(
-
Why is he so popular? Seriously, how much of this "hard to get EU figure thing" is pure scalping? Otherwise we have people buy who only EU figures or army builder characters, both which sound like rubbish.
-
Pretty much. At least that's been my POV on it.
I think people have a figure erection over them in part due to Malak/Revan. They were, by all accounts, the most difficult 2007 figures to track down. Their wave did seem to hit the least.
Now I think a lot of folks are banking on that carrying forward with EU figures... I've had guys at the Toy Show try telling me that "Well Hasbro made less of these because EU figures aren't popular...", blah blah blah. All thigns you can look at and deduce it's a lie, but I think that thought's out there with some folks and they believe it.
-
I only have the figure of Tarkin in this wave.
