I seem to recall yearning for the following two characters during my youth:

- Rebel Fleet Trooper
- Garindan

Normal Stormtroopers satisfied me as a kid, but from an adult collector standpoint, I definitely wish Kenner produced a Sandtrooper for the vintage line. As Chris indicated, I don't think Uncle Owen and Aunt Beru would have gone over well due to limited play value.

I defintely think the internet has provided additional venues for selling modern collectibles at higher than retail prices, but make no mistake about it that toy shows, comic stores, and comic conventions afforded people an equal opportunity to engage in this practice.

As others have stated, I cannot recall scalping problems existing back in the day. Granted, I too was a kid back then, so I probably wouldn't have realized it, but I feel pretty strongly that it wasn't a problem during that era. Possibly the first time I can remember comic shops selling newer toys at inflated prices was around 1989 when Toy Biz launched their Batman line to coincide with the film's release. In general, I think the very early 90's were an awakening period where people started viewing modern toys as having collectible value.

Thanks for the welcome, Jason! I signed up for JD back in 2003, but have not actively posted often since joining. I'll definitely try to participate in discussion here more regularly. Also, I'm glad I'm not the only one who envisioned the turret top as a ship...great minds think alike! :^)

Movie years do tend to attract more attention to the Star Wars franchise, and with that increased presence in the public eye new collectors enter the fold. I think the modern items tend to enjoy a heftier increase in attention since they are often considered more attainable to new collectors. Still, some arguably venture towards the vintage side fueled by nostalgic factors. On the flip side, non-movie years certainly account for disinterest to some extent for some collectors. Regardless of the ebbs and flows of collectors during these times, the Star Wars franchise is a strong one and the fan base is definitely, IMHO, large enough to sustain the collectability of vintage items over time.

Additionally, with such a broad range of vintage items to collect, it affords a person a seemingly unlimited range of categories to focus on. Tired of action figures? Try movie posters. Don't enjoy movie posters? Chase after food related premiums...and the list goes on and on. There's literally something for everyone to collect and enjoy in the vintage realm. That's never going to change.

In the end, it's terribly difficult to guage how high or how low interest in collecting Star Wars items will shift throughout the coming years. Regardless of that difficulty, it's easy to view the vast numbers of dedicated collectors in existence at this time, and I feel that number is large enough where the market can live through a possible drop out of some collectors.

I think out of all the prototypes this is one i want the least. There are so many that are mor einteresting and appelaing to me.

Since the Rocket Fett is an injection molded piece, it isn't nearly as appealing to me as a pre-production item that features true artistic talented embedded into it, like an original sculpting or a hardcopy. Nevertheless, the Rocket Fett is arguably one of the most well known vintage prototypes, identifiable even by many collectors who maintain little to no interest in prototypes or the production process. I would consider adding one to my collection at the right price, but at the current market value that money could go much, much farther towards items I find more interesting for a fraction of the price.

Like CorranHorn, I also immensely enjoyed the Turret & Probot playset as a child. I remember particularly like the removability of the turret's top piece. Sometimes I utilized it as a small ship...it served that purpose well considering the presence of the gun at the front and circular ship-like nature.

As has already been mentioned, ROTJ carded figs are a good bet. Another option is to go for lesser condition carded figures from the other movies. If you aren't super picky you'll be able to pick up carded stuff cheaply. Even if you are picky, there are deals to be had with patience and effort. I definitely recommend watching Ebay auctions closely. You'll undoubtedly find high grade stuff fetching premiums on Ebay, but you'll also come across sweet deals from time to time as long as you are dilligent in your searches.
