Other Toy Lines / Defining points of articulation
« on: October 17, 2009, 12:35 AM »
OK, here's a question I've been wanting to ask for a while but never got around to.  And this post could probably go in a number of forums, but I figure here's as good as anything.  :)  I'm wondering how others define points of articulation when it comes to dual-movement joints.  As an example, I'm looking at an Iron Man figure from the MU line.  Here's how I figure it:

Head - ball joint, so one point.
Shoulders - swivel + hinge, so two points each.
Elbow - swivel + hinge, so two points each.
Wrists/gauntlets - swivel, one point each.
Torso - ball joint, one point
Hips - ball joint, one point each
Knees - swivel + joint, two points each
Ankles - swivel + joint, two points each

So if I'm figuring right, I'd say the MU Iron Man figures (Stealth, Silver, etc) have 22 points of articulation.  I guess my primary question is, if it's a swivel-hinge do you consider it one point or two points?

Well, Mattel took a ****load of my cash today. Found the four Public Enemies 6" figures, the PE DCIH 6-pack, the two PE DCIH 3-packs at Target, then got online to pick up the Zodak, Teela, Bank Robber Joker and 6" & 12" Ray Stantz figures from Mattycollector.

It's kind of aggravating that only four of the six 6" PE figures were released.  In a case of six it was 2x Superman, 2x Batman and an Icicle and Silver Banshee.  They all look really nice though.

I saw today they're making a long-coat version of the Bishoujo Rogue.  *sigh*  It's going to be hard to stay in a line that offers variants of every $50 figure they sell.  :(  It'll kill it pretty fast for me and a lot others, methinks.

On an unrelated note, I got my Dagger Comiqutte from CSC yesterday.  Really a nice looking piece, but I had some issues getting it together correctly.  Getting the hands to hold the cloak was nerve-wracking.  Here's a review if anyone wants to read it:

Either the line's losing steam or Mattel has vastly improved their server capacity.  I got on at 11:03 CST and had my order confirmed in less than a minute with no issues.  Also ordered the Starfire/Adam Strange set, which I've been procrastinating on for some time.  If anyone wants the Adam Strange, drop me a PM and we can work something out.

Wow, thanks for the news guys.  Really all I want is Black Canary, and while I've been pondering buying one on eBay I've been holding off in the hopes of finding one at retail.  Better get one buying one now.

Kevin, that's a sweet statue.  New one to me as well - is it DC Direct?

Eric, here are some Rogue photos.

http://www.comicchix.com/imagegallery/marvel/rogue/kotobukiya-bishoujo-pvc-statue/

It's a really good looking piece, but I thought it might be a *bit* sturdier than it is.  It's not like it's going to snap in half of anything, I guess I just thought for $50 it would be a bit heavier than the likes of the old Applause Star Wars statues.  It's really a nice concept though - I went ahead and preordered a Scarlet Witch and will more than likely pick up a Black Widow.  Thanks for the tidbit about Psylocke and Phoenix - those are both characters I'd have a high interest in.

Eric, I just got that Koto Rogue from TFAW yesterday.  Didn't have a chance to break it open yet but plan on doing so tonight.  It looks absolutely fantastic.  I'm hoping the line continues beyond the few that have been announced so far.  Scarlet Witch and Black Widow are OK, but I'd much rather see the likes of Mystique or Elektra.

I agree with what you say about superheroes vs movie properties.  Things like Hellboy, HP, etc are really cool looking, but nothing I'll pay full retail for.  The good thing is that others seem to feel the same and a lot of them can be had cheap not long after their release.

I'm seeing the Gotham set pretty frequently around here.  It doesn't appear to be selling that well - either that or Wal Marts here have ordered healthy quantities.  Hopefully they're selling well - I'd hate for them to sit around an in turn see Wal Mart order less of wave 10.

I didn't see a thread out there covering this subject (except a Bowen Marvel thread from a few years ago), so I thought I'd start a new one.  Mods, if there is one out there, feel free to point me in the right direction and kill this post.

Just wondering who else out there gets into non-SW busts and statues.  I've always had a keen interest in Sideshow's Marvel stuff but never really jumped into it until recently.  Being a primarily female character collector I have the Rogue and Black Cat Comiquettes and just recently got the Black Queen.  The stuff they do off of Hughes' work is incredible.

I also just got into the Women/Cover Girls of the DC Universe busts and statues from DC Direct.  I have a few of the busts (Starfire, Power Girl, Zatanna, and I have Supergirl on the way) but just got my first statue - Zatanna - last week.  Quite a piece of work, and I'm pretty certain my next purchase will be the first statue from that series (Wonder Woman).  Basically Adam Hughes' work is killing my wallet right now.

I used to have all of the Alien stuff from Palisades but unloaded it when I unloaded my Alien collection a few years ago.  Kind of wish I still had those though, despite a couple of issues with breakage.

Did Hasbro produce any generic, nameless stands for the 25th Anniversary figures?  I hate that some of the vehicle drivers and later multipacks didn't come with stands.

I suppose if they didn't I could always paint over the nameplates of other figures' stands.  So if anyone has any extra stands they'd like to unload, I could use a few.  :)

Here are some pics and a review if anyone's interested.

Haven't heard anything about the Invisible Woman/Human Torch 2-pack since pics started showing up.  Corner Store Comics still has it as part of their pre-order, but it hasn't been updated for a long time so I don't know how valid it is.

I kind of wish I hadn't waited so long on this line.  Tri-Klops was my first and I absolutely love it.  I signed up for the subscription and am looking forward to expanding on the collection in the next 18 months.  I do hope it has some legs and continues, though I can't see it going for more than a couple of years total.

Buzz-Off and Man-E-Faces are two must-haves for me.

Hey John,
There was a post on the HissTank.com forums that the single packs were found at Family Dollar for $3.00.  One poster said they are the ARAH figures repainted in ROC colors so that's why some of them may not look like movie characters, yet do...  You know what I mean.

   E...

Went to a Family Dollar a few miles from work and sure enough there they were.  There was Destro, Snake Eyes, Hawk, Duke, Baroness, Scarlett, Storm Shadow and Neo-Viper.   Sticker said $3 but they rang up at $2.25.

Speaking of the 2-packs, are the Iron Man/SHEILD agent packs available at brick n mortar retail?  I saw them online at HTS many weeks ago and haven’t heard of or seen them since.

Yup - got them at a KC area Toys R Us the other day.

Just a heads up to those with a Gordman's nearby - I found the newest wave with Arctic Snake Eyes, Paris Baroness, Delta Duke, Para-Viper, etc there.  Their "sale" price was $7.99, but considering it's the first I've seen of them in this area I thought I'd let everyone know.
