Title: Best Part of the Prequels: TPM, AOTC, ROTS, or Clone Wars Toon?
Post by: Brian on February 21, 2006, 03:39 PM
I was curious what your favorite part of the overall "prequel era" of entertainment we've seen so far?  Did you like one of the movies the best, the prequel trilogy as a whole, or was the animated Clone Wars series something that seemed the best to you?  I really like all of it, and enjoy Revenge of the Sith the most of the movies, but something about the Clone Wars cartoon just seemed really cool to me.  I know many people mentioned that they seemed to get the relationships of Anakin/Padme and Anakin/Obi-Wan to almost come across better than they were portrayed in the movies, even with what little time they had to do that sort of things in the toon.  I kind of agree with portions of that, and I thought that the animated series was done well overall.  Not to discount the movies though, they all had high points, with ROTS being my favorite personally.  What did you like the best from the prequel offerings?

Simply put, the final battle between Obi-Wan and Anakin was my favourite part of the prequels.  It was the best combination of action and emotion that really got the adrenaline flowing.  I've been waiting to see that battle for years and it did not disappoint.

The best line: "You were the chosen one!"  The pain in Obi-Wan's voice was very powerful.

I would have to say...the battle of coruscant in the clone wars cartoon and episode 3.

As a whole, I liked the CW cartoon the most. :P However, I have two favorite moments in the prequels. The duel between Maul, Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan is the best every photographed. There was so much going for that fight that all that follow paled in comparison. The other was Ian McDiarmid's performance in ROTS. Some think it was over the top, but I think it worked and was very classic SW. A bright spot in an otherwise forgettable movie.

I still love Jar-Jar performance at the battle of Naboo. And I love Jar-Jar altogether. I mean, come on, how could you hate him? Seriously?

I like the Arena battle in AOTC, that one was cool.

Hmmm... Clone Wars cartoon... Lets see, I enjoyed Episodes 20 and 23. Those two were my favorites.

In ROTS, the space battle was cool, but it seems to get shorter and shorter each time I watch it. I guess the best part of ROTS is either the duel, seeing all those Wookiees, watching Yoda knock down the guards, Order 66, or the Battle of Utapau.

The best thing about the prequels was the Lightsaber duels.
To see Jedi and Sith in their prime was excellent.

Agreed, the Episode I lightsaber duel was by far the best.

Thinking of all the other duels they are tended to have extreme close ups (where you couldn't see the action), the setting as dark, the camera moves around and the action is whipping around such that you can't discern the moves.

The Maul fight is perfect, I wish that the same method was used in the rest of the PT.

I'd say the best sequence was the Maul fight. The best overall was the clone wars cartoon followed closely by ROTS.

The fight between obi-wan and Anakin is my favorite. I was happy to see Windu fall, he was a jerk.

The cartoon.  It has the most imagination and sheer joy of any of the prequels, and it had more character, depth, and just fun in a couple minutes than the first two films had put together.

I love the films and the toons. I love the Clone Wars better than the PT, It should have been Episode 2. my order on the films (PT).

1. ROTS- my favorite of the PT. Palpatine kicking &%#!, the dramtic Fall of the Jedi Sequence is one of my favorite out of all six films. Obi-Vader at the end. Awesome

2. AOTC-Jedi kicking *!@# at the Arena, but too much love scenes and not alot of obi-wan. great film

3. TPM- fun film, but flaws. 1) Anakin has a child -he should have been older.  2) Jar Jar- worst character ever. the duel is the best of the SW Saga.

My order of all SW movies (no explain)

1. ESB
2. SW
3. ROTS
4. ROTJ
5. AOTC
6. TPM

I actually think the best part of the Star Wars prequels was Revenge of the Sith because it was really action-packed, it had a lot of lightsaber action, and it also explains almost everything for what will happen in A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back, and especially Return of the Jedi (Note: Revenge of the Sith is very close in comparison to Return of the Jedi).

Connecting the OT with the PT was a difficult job after episode 2, but the did a hell of a job!

Episode 3 is my personal best, the figting, the suffering, etc, etc.... briljant, when I went too so it in the theaters I was more than overrun :o, no movie did that ever to me.... ;D

Yeah I know eh, such a funderful feeling to see clones and droids blown apart on the big screen and all the drama mixed into it to turn it into a tragedy.
I think it could have done without all the crying anakin.

Sad but true, but there's nothing wrong with a crying man
except in my army then...... ;D

my order:

ESB- a rich, epic, and original plot that changed movies forever-and ICMG!  ::)

CW- as spuffy said, very imaginative and overall fun. really creative, cool to see illum and yavin and hypori and muunilinst and all the new jedi (tarr, voolvif, shaggy, roron, foul...ok, maybe not shaggy!) the shaak ti and kit fisto action was my favorite jedi stuff from the entire saga if you ask me

AOTC- the cool mystery and the arena battle

SW- the cantina and grand moff tarkin

ROTS- GRIEVOUS!

ROTJ- cool movie, still hate ewoks

TPM- for me, annoying Jar Jar and whiney anakin cancelled out qui gon and darth maul  :P. but i still love pit droids, the final duel, and the podrace

I liked the overall context of the prequels: the political intrigue and the culmination of civilization on Coruscant, presided over by a corrupt Senate.  I liked the role of the Jedi, and the fact that they had become somewhat complacent in their role in the universe.

The prequels provided a nice socio-political juxtaposition to the OT by setting up the civilized Republic that devolved into an Empire and a rebellion.

I also liked the shades of moral conflict.  In the OT, the bad guy wore black (Vader) and the good guy wore white (Luke...at least in ANH).  But you knew who was good and who was bad.

Obi Wan, a wisened product of the "Old" Republic learned that sometimes things weren't so simple.  Things changed when viewed "from a certain point of view."

Jango Fett was "just a simple man, trying to make his way in the universe."  He genuinely cared about his "son."  But he cast his lots in with the wrong crowd.  Was he good?  Bad?  Choosing sides at all, or just paying the rent?

Was Dooku an evildoer, or just a misguided idealist tired of the Senate's corruption and the weak will of the Jedi Order?

Was Palpatine a bad guy, or was he trying to restore stability, if not democracy, to a bloated galaxy governed by beuracracy?

Did Anakin turn to the Dark Side, or was he being loyal to the government instituted by the People under the direction of their chosen leader ("This is how democracy dies...to thundrous applause.")

Of course, all of those moral ambiguities are clarified in the subsequent movies; the Jedi way is the right way, the Dark Side is bad, Palpatine's power was just as corrosive as the corruption of the Senate, Jango's mercenary ways ended up being not just his, but Boba's, undoing....

But that's the way life is: you make choices in the heat of the moment's fires without really knowing where you'll end up.  The prequel trilogy sets up the chaos from which the clarity of the OT's morality tale emerges.

They have their flaws, but all in all, the prequels play a vital part in the bigger stories that the saga tells.

Jar Jar sucks, though.

That's a tough one for me Beacause I view it as one big story I love the jedi and to see them fight in their prime is awesome I thought it was all cool i view jar Jar is totally for kids alot of prequel stuff delt with politics and how corrupt a goverment
can be boring for kids and some adults.Jar jar kind of lightened the moments in the movies .I loved the clone wars series too.I can't decide .Although I recalled Luke kind of whiney too "But I was going to Toshe Station to get some power convertors" Lucas wanted to get us to root for anakin because we all know who he gets to be
