The Vintage Collection / Re: 2024 March Madness Poll
« on: March 27, 2024, 12:08 PM »
I voted out both of these characters in the first round, so for the final I put it down to who I would pick up at the store if I could only take one.

I haven't seen the episodes of Clone Wars with Pong Krell. Baylon was one of the only characters in the Ahsoka series I liked. So I went with Baylon. If I was putting money on the outcome, though, I would probably go the other way.

Last summer during interviews, the Hasbro team was very happy with how the N-1 had sold, and said it was going to have the effect of more fighter-sized vehicles being offered. I think the E-Wing was an obvious result.

I saw the N-1 on shelf at Target, Go! Calendars and Toys, and a local toy store called Sir Troy's Toy Kingdom ( that is an all-out toy store my boys and I absolutely love that is trying and mostly succeeding at filling the hole TRU left.)

The N-1 is still available on Amazon as well, and hovers around regular price. If it dips far enough it might finally push me over the edge to actually buying it, but I am not much of a vehicle collector ( no Haslab purchases yet, the BMF is enough of a space hog for me.)

I have seen that elsewhere Jayson confirmed it is NOT the Havoc Marauder, and also said that whatever it is, it is not "a representation" of the vehicle/location like the playsets have been, which would seemingly nix the Cantina unless they are doing a full interior/exterior for it.

The Vintage Collection / Re: 2024 TVC Wave 4 (New TVC Wave 36)

The R2 has got to be strictly for carded collectors. I have 6 or so "clean" BAD Artoos from when they sold him in the TLJ ForceLink line ( that I got for 3 bucks each I think at an outlet store) and those came with leg rocket accessories. I have no need for this rerelease.

Nicklab and Jayson have been playing a game of cat-and-mouse about what it will be somewhere else. Not a lot of compelling options on the list to my eye ( as a mostly OT fan)

The word "grunts" was used in the stream, I think to specifically address the complaints about the Tusken Chief and Enoch in recent sets.

I've seen some talk that the Stormtroper is the former Walmart exclusive (TVC 231).  Not sure if the Vader is newish.

The Stormtrooper is indeed still numbered 231, but the card art was slightly updated on the front to move the warnings away from the Hildebrandt art. No word on what the back of the card looks like, I'd imagine it's the new "no cross sell" style.

Vader is another retool of the Dark Times sculpt, now with the torso piece redone so that the tabbards go over the shoulder armor as they did in ANH and Rogue One. About as significant a costume variation as Vader gets.

The canopy slides forward to open as opposed to lifting up like the X-Wing, so it's not that impractical...just have to mind your noggin.

It's interesting that Chris made a point of highlighting the cargo space in the aft section of the E-Wing's fuselage.  And he seems to be aware that we need some storage for accessories.  It's nice to see it here, but I think that concept would be better explored with crates and containers in the deluxe figure / worldbuilding part of The Vintage Collection.

I took him explaining the storage space more as a function of him having explain the big hole he had to expose as a step in plugging the astromech into the socket. He also explained the front landing gear didn’t work as intended on the model while showing us how the rear gear retract. For once using the designers as video presenters made sense and allowed for some insight.

The Vintage Collection / Re: 4” Epic Hero Series Figure Line
« on: February 5, 2024, 10:16 PM »
Jayson said that, and Adam Pawlus kind of seconded it in his QnA column this week, saying the figures were all open to order for all, which makes sense seeing as his workplace Entertainment Earth also sells them.

Mr. Pawlus also said there is already a Wave 2 that hasn't been officially revealed, and went on to say "it might be a while before Hasbro feels like actually playing up what could be a pretty interesting development," though it is not clear exactly what he is referring to at this time.

Either way, he concedes it is possible that WalMart might be the defacto exclusive retailer if Target passed up on ordering any, but time will tell on that. For the record, the new carded Marvel Epic line is at Target already, but not the carded Star Wars Epic line yet.

Which makes the 4 pegs/1 figure each layout even more perplexing for an 8 figure lineup. How do Luke, Grogu, Ahsoka, and the Stormtrooper get to retail?

I saw the same 4 peg layout at a second WalMart today and have seen pics verifying it elsewhere. This will be a weird one to watch play out.

I saw figures from this line at WalMart today...if they had Luke I would have bought him.

They had 4 pegs, 2 for the Basic figures and 2 for the Deluxe. But the thing is, each peg was earmarked for a different individual figure.

That's not so bad for Sabine and Paz, they worked out just fine. The basic pegs were for Mando and Vader, and each figure was loaded enough that these must be shipping in solid freaking cases. Why have an assortment if you don't sell them by assortment?

This is where I think Hasbro is shooting their lines in the foot, with the widget mentality. This line will only survive as a kids line if the kids can find the figures. Mando and Sabine vs Vader and Paz is not going to be anybody's play pattern.

That someone was JD regular Nicklab.

For my money, it's the Havoc Marauder. I suspect Hasbro has left the Bad Batch team AWOL in TVC in hopes of fitting them into the budget via crowdfunding like they did with the Rebels crew. Hunter was an exception because his armor can be repurposed.

The Vintage Collection / Re: 2023 Last Figure Standing Poll
« on: December 4, 2023, 01:33 PM »
Well, a Star Wars team "promised" to finish the 96, but the team has changed since then so does the promise hold? I don't think Jing was in charge of the line back then...

I participated in the poll, and maybe I am not indicative of the standard participant, but 9 of the 10 I picked to start didn't make it to the first round, and the 1 I did pick has dropped out by round 2. They were all 10 never before made characters. So why do I care about these remains? When I vote for some of these remainders, there's very low priority to me and the results of the poll are artificially skewed.

I feel like I retired from collecting 15 years ago, and the things I pick up these days are mostly gravy outside of the very few OT figures I felt were missed in the first 30 years of collecting (I think the last one that checked a box for me was the Lars Gonk.)

This poll has evolved into something I have no investment in, and that's okay. If it comes down to Baylon vs Shin, I couldn't care less.

TV-9D9 / Re: Ahsoka (SPOILERS possible)

I like this idea. He could be a better story guy and producer guy than he is a screenwriter guy or director guy. Promote him far away from the front line.
