Watto's Junk Yard / Re: How Long Is Your...
« on: January 24, 2005, 11:02 PM »
Whilst flogging the bishop this weekend I was wishing my wand of power was a little shorter than it actually is.  The amount of choking the chicken I have to do usually means 45 minutes by myself. My wife doesn't mind the length though, keeps me busy for a while and it keeps her happy

I'd say its about 12 inches long and it gets wider at the end

Tee hee.

No idea why I'm passing on the Prequel guys though.  What all am I missing with those?  Maul, Jango, Mace, and Dooku?  Is that it?

Don't forget Anakin, Obi-Wan, Darth Sidious and Yoda.  Of course, Darth Sidious could be argued to be the Emperor, and Yoda could be OT too (despite his jumping pose).  I've got Sidious and Yoda, and they're both great.  Obi-Wan is pretty good, but I don't have Anakin yet.

Just for the hell of it, here's the list so far:

Aayla Secura - 2004
Anakin Skywalker - Rage - AOTC - 2002
Aurra Sing - 2005
Boba Fett - ROTJ - 2003
Bossk - 2004
Chewbacca - 2004
Clone Trooper - AOTC - 2004
Darth Maul - Fury - TPM - 2002
Darth Sidious - Sith Lord - 2003
Darth Tyrannus / Count Dooku - Dissension - AOTC - 2002 / 2004
Darth Vader - Power - ESB - 2002 / 2004
Darth Vader - Redemption - ROTJ - 2002
Han Solo - ANH - 2003
IG-88 - 2005
Jango and Boba Fett - Intensity - AOTC - 2002
Luke Skywalker - Jedi Knight - ROTJ - 2003
Luke Skywalker - Snowspeeder Pilot - ESB - 2004
Mace Windu - Honor - AOTC - 2002 / 2004
Obi-Wan Kenobi - Jedi Knight - AOTC - 2003 / 2004
Padmé Amidala - Courage - AOTC - 2002
Princess Leia - Sultry - ROTJ - 2002
Stormtrooper - 2005
Tusken Raider - 2004
Yoda - AOTC - 2003

I'm not passing on much... I'd rather pay an extra buck or two and have the figures I want rather than wait several months.

 :P

Hah, yeah, as much as I hate to say it, I agree!  I'm at the point where, if I see it, I'll buy it.  (There goes the monthly budget out the window).

I don't think there will be a MM here, since I can't see Zellers (a Canuckian chain) getting involved in this.  But I think it could be a lot of fun, with the right group of collectors - no elbows, eh?   :)

'Bout freakin' time! ...But if/when I get these from SWS.com and discover that I can't make all the possible poses out of their 9 Stormies, as per their vociferous advertising claim, I'll be dropping them a line to say WTF?!   ::)

Exactly!  That's why I bought 3 of the 3packs, so that I could make all of the poses that they claim (despite the frickin' FedEx charges  ::)).  I guess we'll know when they show up, which finally won't be too far from now.

And they looked infinitely better loose than carded, which is the point where I got hooked.

Very true.  Since I'm a carded guy with the 3 3/4" line, I really enjoy tearing into these, I guess as a change of pace for my collecting habits.  They look so much better when they are fully assembled - you just can't appreciate them otherwise in their carded form.

More OT combined with infinitely nicer cards probably went a long way to kick starting the line.

The cards are an incredible improvement - they really grab your attention when hanging on the pegs at your favourite toystore.  I think the original tacky design as part of the reason I was uninterested for the first while - again, as a carded 3 3/4" guy, the card itself is part of the appeal of a purchase.  Of course, now that I've opened a few of these, nothing can hold me back.   ;)

I WILL BE ONE OF THE FIRST IN LINE TO GUARANTEE YOU GET ONE.

He must be best friends with George Lucas, who's saving him a spot in line.   ::)  :P

That being said, is it just me or have the bases gotten less interesting as the line has gone on?  I mean, nothing can compare to the Boba Fett/Sarlaac base, but I was looking at Bossk in Target the other day and it's basically just a piece of floor that he may or may not even stand on with both feet.  Weird weird weird.

I think the base of the Unleashed Boba Fett is one of the reasons that it is the best one of the series.  The base is more than just background, it's really an integral part of the display, telling the story of when he escaped the Sarlaac.

Just a quick question for you Dave - are you willing to sell any of this stuff, or are you primarily interested in trading.  I ask because I have a little $$, but nothing to trade.   :)

There's some great pics in there!

What line is that Jango Fett from that's sitting on the right side of the picture?

What a great way to display your vintage figures - they look great in a continuous line like that.  By the way, how many rooms does your collection span?

I'm jealous of that great R2-D2 stand - I'm hoping to track one down some day!

This is kind of neat, but not as "I gotta have it" as the Sacul figure.  Still, I will be camped out in line as well.  :)

So now you've got me wondering, what is it about the Sacul figure that really got your attention and made you think "I gotta have it"?  I ask this because I don't have it and didn't go to C2.  I've only seen pics online of the figure (and obviously of the Vader figure), and purely based on that, I'm more interested in the Vader.  Can someone clear me of my ignorance?   :)

Maybe I should give you a good admonishing, like I got for sticking a similar thread in the wrong place tonight!   :P

Hah, I saw that on the scum!  Bad boy.

"None other than James Earl Jones, the legendary voice of Darth Vader, recorded new phrases exclusively for this special figure. The figure, a commanding Vader, is mounted on an exclusive base and in exclusive Celebration III packaging, and it ... speaks!"

OK, that seriously kicks some ass.

"The voice mechanism can be operated without opening the carded figure. But even more important, the batteries that power the speaking voice can be changed from the back of the stand without disturbing the packaging."

I'm seriously impressed by this.  They are really working their butts off to work with collectors on this.  Cool!

Kubricks / Re: Power of the Kubricks!

Does anyone know the history behind this DARTH MAUL like Kubrick figure on eBay?  Is it just a single custom, or is it an unlicensed product from somewhere.  I just thought it looked unique.
