Watto's Junk Yard / Re: Would you give up collecting for a woman?
« on: December 4, 2005, 03:57 PM »
In a life or death situation, yeah, I'd give it up.  Afterall, my hobby is really just bits and pieces of plastic and cardboard. ;D

My wife doesn't like Star Wars and my collecting drives her nuts.  That said, she gets the time with me she needs and she understands that I've been a fan all my life and was collecting for years before she and I met.  She understands that it's just part of me.  She also knows that there are numerous other hobbies I could have that would be detrimental to our marriage.

When I spend money on my hobby, she usually will spend money on her hobby.  All in all, it evens out...but I do know my wife is tired of SW and thinks I'm a nerd for chatting on message boards. ;D

Watto's Junk Yard / Re: RS deletes accounts
« on: December 3, 2005, 04:26 PM »
I just contacted Joe Michael (33884 at RS) about some stuff he had bought from me.  He said the check was sending the check out a week ago, but just "picked it up today."  Whatever the **** that means.  He said he was waiting for me to contact him.  What???  I contacted him when we had agreed to a sale price on my stuff.

He said in his email the check was headed out to me today.  His typing, or grammar maybe, is absolutley terrible.  Does anybody have any other background info on him?

I may give him a few days and then if the check doesn't show, I'll tell him to **** off and I'll sell my stuff elsewhere.

Anyhow, sorry to bother the board with my rambling this Saturday afternoon.

The flex cuffs are actually from a website that specializes in 12" figures and their equipment.

My wife rolled her eyes when I started working on this and told me to pick a hobby.  I'm ready to start another one.

I posted this in the Other Toy Lines forum, but would like to get a bit more exposure over here.

Being in the USAF Security Forces, I thought I'd make a bit of a tribute to the guys still on the far side of the world still fighting the good fight.  No politics intended here.

Questions and comments are welcome.

Other Toy Lines / Re: What other 70s & 80s toy lines do you collect?
« on: November 28, 2005, 08:40 AM »
I thought about getting into collecting GI Joe, but my wife says I need to pick one hobby and stay with it.  So I'm staying with Star Wars.  I may try to pick up a Flint or Dusty figure at some point.

Vintage Kenner / Re: Vintage vs Modern
« on: November 27, 2005, 08:21 AM »
Over the past year or so I've been selling off bits and pieces of my modern collection for the same purpose.  I was trying to get each basic figure MOC, but I got tired of doing that, so I sold off the boring Saga collection first.  That's the only full set I've sold, but I've also debated dumping my POTJ and POTF figures as well.  Now, I collect mainly vintage and don't get much of anything modern except for clones.

Go for the vintage.  It's a bit more expensive, but like you pointed out, there is no time crunch.  Also, part of the fun is getting a good deal on something.  If you loose out or decide not to pick up a figure, there is always another one that can be picked up later.

Vintage Kenner / Re: AFA - Good or Bad?
« on: November 21, 2005, 04:20 PM »
I'm not a fan of AFA.  I agree with Morgbug that grading loose figures his stupid.  But I don't need my figures graded.  I'm not buying anything that high end anyway.

I agree with the be patient approach.  I've been patient on many an auction and decided to pass when I didn't think the deal would work.  For the stuff I'm after, there is always something else coming along and therefore, I don't need the AFA verification.  I'm not picky about my MOC Han collection, provided they are presentable.  I don't need AFA to tell me that, I can look at a picture and decide from there.

I don't remember everything that I voted for but I did vote for the following:

Star Wars
GI Joe
Big Wheel
Playstation
Transformers

Most of those shaped my formative years, with the exception of the PS.  I also listed Trivial Pursuit because my family plays it all the time now.

I'm still hoping to find a trilogo Bespin Han.  Other than that, I've got pretty much every basic carded figure, excluding variations and the EU.

Obviously it's been a bit longer than "tonight" posting pics.  But I've finally taken them off the camera and into the comp.  Here are four pics of my OIF USAF Security Forces soldier.

I can't seem to get the image tags working for whatever reason.

Edit:  I think I fixed an image tag for you (if this is what you meant).  I just copied/pasted the link for your first picture and highlighted the link in my edit, then I clicked the image tag in our forum toolbar:

And there ya have it. :)
