The Sequel Trilogy / Re: Disney Buys LFL; Announces Episode 7
« on: October 31, 2012, 09:57 AM »
I wouldn't count on unaltered versions of the OT anytime soon.  In one of the articles about this whole thing was info on distribution rights.  Fox has all distro rights until 2020 and they have rights for ANH "in perpetuity."  So unless Disney and Fox reach some type of deal, it could be a long wait, or never, that we get to see any type of Saga release out of Disney.

   E...
There is no way Disney would have made this purchase unless there were already some agreement worked out for home video releases.  Remember, none of the films leading up to and including the Avengers were distributed by Disney.

Mickey Mouse's first order of business should be to cancel this bore-fest.

Bring it on, the Marvel guys thought the world was going to blow up when Disney jumped on board and since then the brand has gone from strength to strength

I think the same will happen here, I will always love my original trilogy, I can put up with the prequels and the clone wars animated show is great.
I don't need to see Harrison or Fisher in a new movie but seeing Hamill as the Jedi Master is something I have always wanted to see on the big screen.
There are so many possibilities that it's making me dizzy just thinking about it, as for killing EU it could be a whole new range of stories, that galaxy that is far far away that we all love is pretty dam big so the next trilogy could be about anything.

Me personally I'm just stoked about new starwars at the movies, xwings have been away from the screen for far too long :)

Well said.  If this had happened five years ago, I'd be down on it, but they have handled the Marvel property brilliantly (even the fanboyest of fanboys has to admit that) and hopefully they can do that for SW.

One thing I am shocked no one has mentioned...  Does this mean we can FINALLY get HD versions of the unaltered OT?

Sorry to hear about your loss.  I lost a cat about a month ago during the night.  She seemed a little strange the night before, and I planned on taking her in the next day, and she passed during the night.

Tackling the alcoholism aspect in the film would likely feel tacked on and I am sure many would feel that whatever resolution there would be to the story that it happens too fast to be realistic.  In comic, this kind of arc can be fleshed out for a long time.  In a movie of this nature, it would likely just seem silly.

I'd guess because many sellers prop up low prices with exorbitant shipping fees.  Smart shoppers look at the total cost, but I am sure there are plenty that don't (the crowd that calls a $4.98 item a $4 item).

Wow.  So awesome.  I wasn't sure if they'd actually show a decapitation on TV, but they did not disappoint.  That actress IS Michonne.

SS has recanted on making changes to his films.  He now feels that once they are out there, that's it.  That said, is there a definitive BD collection with all cuts of the film?  Does this set port over the extras?  Have they FINALLY presented the cut scenes, in their entirety, and not as part of a documentary?

Why don't the AAT's hatches lock from the inside?

And one of the reasons tanks have anti-personnel weapons is to prevent infantry from running up and attaching magnetic mines, etc. to the tank.

Then again, when have the AAT's ever used their weapons. They never use the hull rockets. Those nubs below the front hatch are lasers, too, according to the Episode 1 cutaway tech book.

So, yeah, we have the silly manuevors to make some "jock vs. nerd"/pissing contest scenes.
Why do the tanks even need a robot to drive them?  Why not hard wire that stuff right in.  It would be like building a drone to be flown by a seperately built craash test dummy.  Stupid, and an issue I have always had with the Separatist army.  Yet, the vultures are actual droids with no pilots.

It just would've been a little more realistic than people doing olympic sports on the gun barrel and opening hatches from the outside.  A bit too much of a kiddie vibe to a lot of that stuff in this episode, which already slowed it down...  so at least make it less silly.
You hit the nail on the head here!

Yeah these are REALLY nice...  Like, nice to the point that if there wasn't SW I'd be considering going all in on these, and praying for a LOTR line as well...  Actually if the latter happens it'll be hard for me NOT to buy into these.  :-\  LOTR is the only movie franchise besides SW that has me hooked in completely.
Indiana Jones?!?

Has anyone watched the Target bonus disc for Avengers yet?  Pretty good, and legitimately 90 mins long.  Cool retrospective of the whole series, and it was cool seeing the ComiCon reactions.  It really is amazing that they were able to pull this off, five lead-up films and not a bomb amongst them.

One of my favorite parts of all the extras is they allusions they make to Chris Evan's former Marvel role without ever specifically saying it.

I managed to hit Target on Saturday and pick up the bonus disc, but have not gotten around to viewing it yet.  Good to hear that it was worth getting.  I still can't believe they had a $19.999 new release for one of the best selling movies of all time, including the Blue Ray, the DVD, and a 90 minute bonus video.  And if you used your red card it was only $19.   :o

I got the four (five) disc version for $19.99.  This includes the BD and DVD as well as the 3D BD and digital copies of the movie and soundtrack (disc 5 was the Target disc).

That all said, this thing has "extended edition" written all over it.  The extras are fairly anemic, or at least the seemed so to me.  Very little production stuff.
