Looks like these are the $10 armored figures... pics from JTA's Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/jeditemplearchives/posts/10153568912432437) and various twitter sources.

That was my favorite scene in Jedi. When the twin Suns of tatooine set, Luke would don his superhero costume and become Banthaman! Can jump a moisture vaporator in a single bound. More powerful than a jawa sand crawler. In the sky! Over the Dunes! It's Banthaman.
Sorry, just delirious from disappointment today...

After soaking everything, some thoughts:
Figures in general: Very, very good. I like the 5 POA. The paint apps seem better for the most part. Seems a few of these at least have ball jointed heads judging from the various pics.
Packaging: This is the best card art we've had since the 30th anniversary, and maybe longer. Leagues better than any of the PT movie cards. Outstanding character art which gives a little nod to the vintage days will still graphically current. Way better than what I expected after they first announced the packaging.
Accessories: Not entirely sure on the armor concept but at first blush a few of these figures are the same as the basic figures (Finn, Flame Trooper) for what I assume is a higher price point. This is the same business model Hasbro employed with TPM 3D when they sold us the same Qui-Gon's and Obi-Wan's various ways at various price points and you can buy some of those to this day at a Wal-Mart near you. I don't think the distinction between the armor bits and the build a lawn mower is so great that you need to have two, or charge a premium for one or the other. Ultimately I don't think it will matter, as I doubt any of the figures will be exclusive to one line or the other, but I guarantee moms and dads will leave that Finn Armor set to die on the vine when they can get the same one with a similar lawn mower doo dad for three bucks cheaper. This is the sort of takeaway you'd think Hasbro would have gleaned from the TPM 3D post mortem, but apparently not.
Anyways, after all that - can't wait!

Whoever is taking these pictures needs to take it off the UFO setting so we can get a clear picture.

Just spent way too much time looking at these blurry figures trying to figure out if "Armored" Poe here is just a repaint of Finn with a new Poe head.
Doesn't really look like it to me (I see differences in the shoulder pad/armor and the neckline of the shirt), but I see a lot of people commenting they think they are the same sculpt.
-
I'm assuming/hoping this armor thing is just a gimmick? Or do we "know" the Force Awakens characters will be wearing armor in the movie?
-
The Poe Dameron figure looks significantly different from the Finn figure. The jacket looks the same, but the resemblance ends there. And this take on Poe looks like how we saw him in the behind the scenes video from SDCC.
-
Sounds like Walmart is charging $12.93 for these, which means those $13 price rumors are true.
$13 for a $7 5POA figure and a clip-on armor? Yeesh. Those little armors are kind of fun... but not at nearly the price for another whole figure.
Makes sense now why they are in a "box" and not on a card. If they would have put them on cards next to the $7 stuff at almost twice the price no one would have bought them.
Going to have to think long and hard about buying any of these... probably will only cave for the inevitable Han Solo when they get to him. :-\
-
That's 10 cents more than what they're currently charging for Black Series figures! I'm thinking everything for this line is a "Wait for BOGO/Clearance"
-
This the lowest Hasbro has gotten in the 3 3/4" line. Mostly repacks with a new accessory. Deluxe figures have usually been cash grabs but these aren't giving the buyer much of anything. Giant packs, mini vehicles, big guns...but now it's an accessory no more impressive than ones that used to appear on basic carded figures. Even the force Awakens figures with the weapon parts...compared to the these. It's absurd.
Some praised 5 POA as a way to keep costs down, yet these are 5 POA figures with a paltry accessory made to INFLATE the price. Rationalize that.
-
There was one figure that I had some hope for in this Armor Up assortment, and that was Poe Dameron. He's in a Resistance uniform other than the flight suit, which I thought looked pretty cool. But when I actually saw the figure in person yesterday? Whoa. Not a flattering portrait of the actor, Oscar Isaac at all. I'm hoping that we might get another version of Poe in his Resistance uniform down the line that looks SOMETHING like the character.
As for other figures in this assortment? I was kind of tempted by the First Order Stormtroopers and Flametroopers. Chewbacca had a decent sculpt. But Finn and Luke? Meh. In essence, these are all still 5 POA figures. Sure, they've got that armor accessory, but I really don't have any use for those when it comes to displaying these figures.
There were lots of impulses yesterday to 'BUY, BUY, BUY'! But I think that I've got a much better long view on things now, and I'm prepared to wait for decent/basic versions of these figures. The armor gimmick just does not really do it for me. With the characters like Poe, Finn and Luke I think you've got a little latitude with them in terms of the desing. But with the First Order characters? Given the fact that these characters are already armored you get the sense that there might be some armor enhancements available for these troopers. But what Hasbro came up with for both the Stormtrooper and the Flametrooper just does not fit in with that very strong design aesthetic.
-
I planned on getting the Poe as well, but ended up passing on the ones I found. The only figure I got from this assortment for now was the Chewie. I'd rather have the cheaper version as I don't care about the "armor".
-
I haven't had the chance to do a comparison yet, but is there generally a difference between the standard figures and the armor up versions, other than the pack-in? I'm still trying to figure out if I need any of these.
-
Not sure on Flametrooper or Stormtrooper
Kylo's hood is down vs up (both were a must for me)
Finn has snow on him vs not

-
Now turn any figure into hoth rebel or endor rebel troopers...if you could get that Poe on cheap (clearance) you could customize away!
Now hoping line lasts long enough for Armor-Up Admiral Ackbar with Deep Sea Armor and Urban Combat Armor. Mon Calamari Super Commandos!

Why does a girl wearing armor need more armor on top?
-
These things are awful. $13 ($16 at the Target downtown here), and ill-conceived.
It's a $6 figure with a completely useless backpack.

Ask Tony Stark in Age of Ultron when he's in his armor and inside the Hulkbuster armor. ;)
-
It sounds like the Poe/Phasma "Double-Armor Up" figures may be store exclusives.
Both have the "Epic Battles" tag (which has been seen on other TRU exclusives (http://trusca.imageg.net/graphics/product_images/pTRUCA1-21484903_alternate1_dt.jpg)) and both have a higher price point than the standard "Armor Up" figures on the UK TRU site.
-
Easy enough not to but them. There will inevitably be one everyone wants though. >:(

Pretty much all the figures are awful at this point, but these are pretty good for a 5 year old.
-
Kohls has these for $19.99. Not sure how they justify that. But they do give you 10% off and a $5 off your next purchase.

Some aren't so bad... but the armor up are really wasteful. God help us if they put in figures people actually want. For the most part it's been rehashes of things you can get cheaper generally or things you're not that compelled to want.
I have seen surprisingly few (none on my end really) thefts on these. :-X
But anyway, in general I think some of the 5POA are ok... The weird 3PO droid thing is fun anyway. I'm finding some good amidst all this and it's not costing me $10-per. It's mostly on obscurity though. Army builders and stuff, I'm kinda bummed but will work with some of them to make them better.
But sculpt/deco are top notch actually. As good as they've ever been. Features and articulation are as bad as they've ever been though. :-\
-
So, I ended up with one of the "Armor Up" Poe Dameron figures. (Thanks again, Hasbro! (https://twitter.com/JediDefender/status/664998032568664064)).
I got around to opening it last night and in reality, the "clip on armor" is a pretty complex item. I had assumed it was a single piece of plastic with paint aps, but it's actually more than that. There are a couple different parts on a clip-on harness thing and in Poe's case, the helmet is removable from the rest so he can wear it separate if you want.
Probably still not worth $13, but nicer than I was expecting. :P

Looks like you can remove Finn's ST armor in order to snap on the "armor up" armor. Armor
-
Finn actually looks intriguing, though also kinda chunky.

Picked up the Toys R Us Exclusive Armor-up Captain Phasma and Poe Dameron figures this morning. Just opened each of them up at my desk - the Poe Dameron "armor" is pretty neat, the life-support box on the front of his flight-suit detaches and then plugs into a slot on the armor, so at least they made the effort to have these two armor options for him fully integrate with the figure.
The Phasma clip-on armors are okay, but I don't really understand the point of these - someone in armor, putting on more armor. :-\
I don't have one of the regular carded versions of Phasma with me to compare, but I want to say that these two figures of her might be slightly different from each other, later tonight when I'm home I'll compare the two...
-
Didn't have a lot of time to compare the two figures but they do seem to be the same sculpt - I took one of the three Jungle Assortment Captain Phasma figures I have, removed the cape and the 2nd armor fit just fine.
Did see if the life-support box on the Poe Dameron figure that came with the X-Wing would detach easily and unfortunately, in that release of the figure, the part is glued in place - so putting the "spare" armor on that figure isn't an option unfortunately.

@Jeff - I could not see a way to remove the Helmet from the rest of the pieces that make up the complete "armor-up" piece - did you have to completely disassemble it to detach the helmet?
-
Mine just pulled out of the main armor-up assembly. There is a little tab that is hanging off the back of the helmet to slot it back in if you want. Maybe it was supposed to be glued in there, but on mine it just popped off with minimal effort.

Ok thanks - I'll give it another try - I have two of the Armor Up Poe Dameron figures opened up - I got the 2nd so I could display him w/o the armor on - so if I "break" the spare set of armor I have it wouldn't be the end of the world....

So is the Poe the same as the one in the X Wing?
-
So is the Poe the same as the one in the X Wing?
All the 5POA Poe figures are different -
Armor Up Resistance Outfit Poe = no helmet
Blue X-Wing pack-in Resistance Outfit Poe = non-removable helmet
Basic figure X-Wing Pilot Gear Poe = non-removable helmet
Black X-Wing pack-in Pilot Gear Poe = removable helmet
TRU Armor Up Pilot Gear Poe = removable helmet, detachable chest box
-
Trying to collect them all might put you in the Poe house. :D

The only armor-up figure I have is Luke Skywalker from Return of the Jedi.

I saw the Armor Up Finn and FO TIE Pilot today. Finn looks alright, but I passed because I want to see the basic figure version first. As for the TIE Pilot? It was kind of uninspiring.

Have any of the Armor Up figures qualified as inspiring at this point?

True that. They don't make a lot of sense, especially when you're putting armor on more armor, but the kid in me likes the concept of added accessories.

Not really. The only ones that I've felt ANY sort of eagerness to get were the Poe Dameron in Resistance uniform and Kylo Ren with the hood down. Everything else has just been kind of MEH. I get that Hasbro's trying to offer up some play value with the armor. But the concept just isn't resonating enough with me to spend $13 to $15 on a figure with 5 POA and a large accessory that's never featured on screen.
-
The cost is my main problem with them for what they are. I have a soft spot for weird ugly kid versions of things... like the old muscle head Luke and Han... Monkey Face Leia, the giant rocket launching Deluxe POTF Fett... I like displaying absurd versions of things next to regular versions - and of collecting the line in its entirety. But $12.99 to $14.99 for a 5-POA figure with a big backpack seems like an awful awful deal to me. But I'm collecting them all and that's on me for sure - but it doesn't give me a warm fuzzy feeling purchasing one of those the way a new figure does.
-
Same here. I actually LIKE that Chewbacca sculpt. It looks pretty good. But I have LOTS of other Chewbacca figures. Including SA versions that I bought at lower price points than this armor up Chewbacca. Early Bird Chewbacca, anyone?
I've even like the Deluxe Figure line historically. I mean, who DIDN'T like the POTJ Deluxe figures, like Slave Leia with the Sail Barge cannon? Or the POTJ Amanaman? And what about some of those SAGA Deluxe figures, like C-3PO with the Escape Pod? Or General Riekkan with that Tactical Plot? Granted, that's when Hasbro went in it's biggest and boldest direction with that line. But even in the ROTS line we got some very cool offerings of characters with large accessories, or large droids, MOST OF WHICH were featured on screen. Personally, I'd like to see this sort of Deluxe Figure offering return. Because a 5 POA figure with a big packpack that costs $15 isn't cutting it with me.
-
I just cracked open the last of my TFA figures today and had a few questions / observations.
1 - are most of the armor up figures near direct copies of the regular figures? It appears the only ones that are different are Poe and Chewie. Am I missing anything significant.
2 - I was surprised at the gaps in the overall figure line. No regular Chewie, R2-D2, Poe resistance outfit, and Poe pilot without helmet. I'm probably missing a few, but this ones popped out at me.
-
Isn't Stormtrooper Finn different, having a removable chest armor piece?
I'm going by observation I own none of them.
-
Kylo is the only way to get him sans hood but with the mask. Also his head won't swap to 4"TBS kylo without modding it.
I'm guessing they didn't double dip to "force" you to buy.
Also the TIE Pilot is a special forces pilot iirc, basic is just basic black.
-

+1
There is another Special Forces TIE Pilot that's packed with the TRU Exclusive First Order Special Forces TIE Fighter (battle damaged). But that pack-in figure has a removable helmet. The Armor Up version doesn't have that removable helmet and like Jesse said it's the same sculpt as the 3.75" basic figure line offering.
The Armor Up Kylo Ren mixes things up a bit. But I was a little put off that they would offering that figure up that way and charge more for the un-hooded Kylo Ren and an accessory that had no presence on screen. And some of the other figures in the line? I passed on almost all of them except for Kylo Ren and Chewbacca.
The TRU exclusive Armor Up Poe Dameron is basically the same figure as the Black Leader X-Wing pack-in figure, which has a removable helmet. The only difference is the Armor Up accessories. Overall, I thought those TRU exclusive Armor Up figures were kind of a waste, and I passed on both of them. It really did remind me of something out of the POTF2 line.
I was definitely surprised by the absence of the droids from the Basic Figure line. TFA C-3PO is only available in that 2-pack with R2-D2. And BB-8 was packed in with Teedo and Unkar Plutt's henchman.
