Star Wars Action Figures / Re: Baron Fel?
« on: April 4, 2006, 12:29 PM »
I'm looking forward to seeing him too -- sounds like he'll be great around, and very nicely detailed!

My own plans for Baron Fell were a Saga TIE pilot body and a Bail Organa head (this is obviously for Fel's facial hair look), but hemble, your approach sounds much more interesting & exciting.  :)

Customizing Tips and Tricks / Re: Joints Scraping Paint!
« on: April 4, 2006, 12:27 PM »
I seem to have this issue even though I DO use spray sealant!  I'll have to try that superglue trick of hemble's, though -- that may be just the thing.

Very impressive alien heads, Ben!  I like 'em!  Those Twi'leks in particular are fantastic, and very useful to us SW customizers (though the Babylon 5 heads are no less cool, by any means).

If you are taking "requests," then I, like Gregorbian, would love to see what you'd come up with for neutral, "thuggish" headsculpts like Klatooinians, Niktos, Rodians, Duros, Squibs, and the like.  (And guess what other alien I'd love to see! :) )

Thanks again, and keep up the very fine work.  I'll keep checking this.

Star Wars Action Figures / Re: Mara Jade custom?
« on: April 2, 2006, 12:45 PM »
Hi Mitsukara -- If you're planning to make Mara in the black smugglers' outfit, I think the Droid Factory Chase Padmé body sounds like a great bet, as both you and Chewie mention.  Arms can be taken from almost any female figure with bare arms, which includes most of the Princess Leia colletion; the wristband of the gloves can then simply be sculpted on with Sculpey or Fimo, and that & the hands painted to look like gloves.

As far as heads go, here's the head I think is one of the best bets for Mara, from the 2004 edition of Scarlett from G. I. Joe:
http://www.yojoe.com/action/04/scarlett4.shtml

This head has not only the right hair in the right style, but also a facial expression that I think is quite apt for Mara.  These can be found on eBay, of course, but also from trading, I'm sure!  Only one thing: the neck post is a good bit thicker than the hole in the Droid Factory Padmé torso, but once the hole is widened with an X-Acto or some such, it should be a fine fit.

Hope this has helped -- happy customizing to you!  :)

Excellent job on that helmet, Glassman (although I'm by no means surprised)!  Looks absolutely seamless.  The detailing on the antenna looks great -- it's the little things that count!  If I ever need any Mandalore helmets, I now know exactly whom to come to.  :)  Keep up the great work!

Star Wars Action Figures / Re: Aayla Secura naked! - wip

Great finished product, Phruby!  I like the way she turned out.  The skirt looks excellent, very true to the character.

And responding to Alderaan Guardian's comment...
Hasbro should do a line of Amidala figs with soft goods chothes, but with micro lady bodies.

Oh man, that would be lovely beyond words, but it would also be expensive beyond words!  :)

Very nice figures, BrentS!

That Droid Rykrof is very deco, and rather surreal, too... great job on the look of the corroded metal, in particular.  Very convincing.

As is your diorama preview photo -- looks JUST like Tatooine.  Love the lighting -- looks very much like desert sun(s).  Looking forward to see the rest.

When you mentioned a Fritzkrieg-style custom, my first thought was that you had tried your hand at some deadites or corpses!  But the two gals you got look great, especially the X-wing pilot.  Do tell us more about how you made those two, and with what parts!

Keep up the great work, & happy customizing!

I cant wait to read this one. ;D I love the 4-lom Maitre'D  that is just priceless. BTW the one in the Antilles uniform is that the officer?

Thanks, Ennis!  Glad you like 4-LOM -- I really wanted the maitre d' to be a droid, but he was the only one I had on hand.  Still, he was once a protocol droid, after all, so it works out. In my more recent photos I've given him a bowtie, which you'll see soon (I hope)...

Ah, you noticed my fifth odd clone in the Antilles uniform, who wasn't in the original Delta Squad photo.  I mainly made him because I had the Antilles on hand.  I didn't know before receiving the Antilles how different he and Organa really looked, so I was expecting it to look more like Organa.  But who knows, maybe it's an earlier-phase uniform (there was, after all, an earlier armor design too), or maybe he is an officer -- or maybe all the rest are officers and he's the sole grunt who's sneaked in...
In anyc ase, the possibilities are endless -- the "Antilles" clone is whatever your imagination wants him to be!

Wow, these Microlady bodies are really incredible -- like a Cy Girl, only 3.75!  The Aayla head looks really great on this body -- perfect proportional fit -- great job getting the light blue paint colors to match, too.  That's definitely not easy.

I wonder if a cool, softgoodsy-yet-fitting sleeve for the left arm could be made with... gasp... some material from a cut-up pair of black or dark brown nylon stockings?  Just sew a sort of a thin tube and slip it on?  Just a thought.  Of course, I'm prejudiced, as you know...  :D

Looking forward to seeing what the leather skirt -- should be most snazzy.  Keep up the great work, as always, Phruby!

Hooray!  Another Rykrof installment!  :)

More detailed comments will come soon, but I like what I see -- and the plot is really, really starting to thicken!

Feedback / Re: BrentS's feedback

Just finished my first trade with Brent.  I heartily second all the excellent feedback people have left so far -- Brent is a quick, friendly, and conscientious trader.  I highly recommend him and hope to trade with him again soon!

Thanks again, Brent -- you're great!  :)

Excellent preview shots, Brent -- love your use of real sand in the desert scenes.  That Tusken sure looks scary!  What's going to be his connection to Plagueis and Co.?

Can't wait to see where this goes -- looks like you're off to a great start. :)

I love the ball pictures.  But you have to admit that is pretty big bottle that Clone is pouring out of!!  What a great mini-diorama!

Thanks, Brent! :)  Yes, it is a big bottle.  It's dollhouse scale, which is 1/12, so that explains the size.  But what can I say?  These clones know how to have a good time!

Thanks, everyone!

Now, to answer a few specific comments before going on to the NEW PHOTOS:

Phruby and Ennis, you mention the Bail Organa body...  I have to admit, I've always liked this figure quite a bit. It's got nice articulation, and it's a pretty generic pants & shirt outfit that could be used for most anything.  (Plus, the head is great for Baron Fel!)  If anything, I wish it had been MORE of a pegwarmer out here so I could snag a few just as generic Human male bodies and such!

Ennis, yes, I see where the title of my thread certainly could have raised many an eyebrow out there.  Mention of a "ball" immediately adds a dimension of girliness not found in most clone custom threads.  But at girlification I excel, if at nothing else!  :D

Alderaan Guardian, yes, I posted these guys on FFURG as well.  Whenever I have new customs I usually put them in about 3 or 4 different forums at once.  Publicity = good!  :D

All right, and now, on to some BRAND NEW PHOTOS of the REPUBLIC TROOPERS' BALL!  At present these are just general ballroom shots of this little temporary diorama, but I hope to add some with actual dialogue soon, photocomic style.

Do enjoy, everyone!

More to come soon.  Once again, thanks to all!  You're a great audience! :D

Thanks for the comments, everyone!  Glad this silly little experiment is bringing a few smiles to faces!  :)  Now to respond to some individuals:

JediKnight760071, alas, no, I have not read Triple Zero yet.  Perhaps at some point when I no longer have graduate school breathing down my neck, I'll be able to!

CHEWIE, awww, you're so nice!  I aim to please.  Looking forward to seeing what ou will think of the photocomic thingie that these four are going in!  :)

Clone Commander, thanks for reminding me what that other head was!  I remembered the AT-TE one but couldn't remember the other.  All the heads except Scorch's are casts, as it turns out -- more on that below.

Both Clone Commander and Jedijaybird: Oh yes, the Bail figure is pretty tall, isn't he, compared to the troopers?  Well, let's see... perhaps they've padded their boots for this ball so as to look more impressive to the ladies?  Or some such?  :D  In any case, they're not too outrageously tall in comparison to the ladies who are going to attend the ball (who are mainly just temporary spare-parts-swap customs).  Here's a comparison shot with a few of them:

And now, Darth Nirvana... :)

That's a very interesting concept there- I like it. The sashes are nice and the paint apps are very smooth and flawless. Although, in that pic, Fixer kinda looks like he's kinda retarded...must be the Tank Gunner head. Anyway, these are great, simple and very effective.

Yes, the Clone Currently Playing Fixer definitely has kind of a stupefied look on his face in that photo.  I'm mainly to blame for that, since his head is a cast of a Tank Gunner head which I painted myself and which ended up with kind of big eye.  In fact, all of those heads except the one on the Clone Currently Playing Scorch -- which is just a plain ol' Tank Gunner head -- are casts, made by the excellent Glassman6 and repainted by myself.  Here are some close-ups of the faces:

It's embarrassingly clear who's painted and who's not!   :)  The eyes are the hardest part and took multiple tries on all of them -- still working on perfecting that.

Thanks again for the excellent input, everyone!  Much appreciated!  :)
