Take a look at the ROTS and Saga2 Collection and tell me Hasbro doesn't know at least some people like to customize.

1. Removable bandoliers (more expensive than molded on parts.
2. Ball-joint heads (better for play value, but also lends itself to the ultimate in easy head-swaps).
3. Hands and feet that can be swapped among some figures (easier than ever to vary up your armies).

I know there are other reasons to make these improvements, but when you see military figures hitting the market with extrea arms, hands, heads, coats, helmets, etc., you have to believe Hasbro sees that.

As for the rep, that's a great story. For the record, when I worked at TRU we had a rep come through a couple of times. She had to prepare a report on ALL Hasbro product in our store, which was obviously a heck of a lot more stuff than Star Wars. Remember that these people aren't Hasbro-Star Wars reps. For the most part they are retail overseers who only care about what's not selling right this minute.

When I worked at TRU it was during the famous Han Hoth/Luke Dagobah glut, and our rep came through and filled a cart with those guys and left. She wasn't there to give us what DID sell, she was identifying what was failing. I know it seems like the same thing, but it's very different.

1. In my version of PhotoShop, 5.02, the tool you use for cropping is called the "Marquee" tool. The icon for it is a small, dashed-line box in the upper left corner of your toolbox.

2. Once you've clicked on the tool, check the Options pane. You may have to tell PhotoShop to display this pane.

3. You should see an option for "Style". The default is "Normal". Choose "Constrained Aspect Ratio". When you choose this, you will see spaces for two numbers. The first is width, the second is height. The two numbers form your ration (FYI, I use 600 X 325 - 600:325 - for the body of my PN photos, and then I add black canvas to the top and bottom to end up 600 X 450. This creates a "letterbox" effect)

4. When you use the Marquee tool, you will notice how it only lets you cut out rectangles with the right aspect ratio. And there you go. :)

Roton -

Depends on what you're using to work with your pics. Cropping uses a ratio... think in terms of the rise and the run from your math classes (I can't remember...that may have been trig or calculus... I suck at math). 16:9, for example, means for every 16 units wide  a picture is, it's 9 units tall. So a picture that's 160 pixels by 90 pixels will have the same height/width ratio to one that is 320 by 180.

In photo shop you can use a fixed aspect ratio to crop, then go in to set the photo size. If you're using a consistent aspect ratio, setting the same width with constrained aspect ratios will always give you the same height.

If you're not using photo shop, I'm not sure what to tell you. :(

and yes, guys, I'm still here. I lurk painfully little anymore, and I never get to comment... :( I just thought I might be of help here.

Great start to your PN, too. Keep it up.

Helmet looks 1/2 Firespeeder Pilot, 1/2 Boussh... is that right?

Brilliant!

Tee shirt is easily sanded down on the DTC Major Barrage (this is probably your best bet):

An old 1993 Blanka might work:

You may be able to fix up Dhalsim:

Brent -

As a big PN fan, it pains me that I haven't commented on this earlier. Please accept my apologies - I know how it feels when you don't get as much feedback as you'd hoped for (especially in light of what you've done here!)

First of all, I like where you've set this one. Pre-Episode I really works for me, especially since I personally know so little of that time. Just about anything you put forward is going to work, so long as it's not completely outside the scope of what little we do know. So your setting is very good.

Second, using Jawas of all things to set the stage for what must be a deep, deep evil is awesome. I'm reminded of Bilbo finding the One Ring. It falls to the lowest creatures to unearth the most deeply lost treasures. :) I actually got the impression of a cross between the LOTR and SW here, but I'm sure it's just a matter of how you need to get this thing rolling. I really like what you've left me expecting. :)

Having Shmi with a somewhat-unwanted suitor is also a really believable touch. I totally bought into the idea that he would take something that seems so precious and hand it over to her. Very cool story-telling touch there.

The images I have commented on in preview threads. Your photog work is perfect. I also like your effects shots very much.

I'm excited to see where this one goes!  Bravo!

:)

Hey DD -

I don't have a clue when I'll be able to pull this together. I've gone from busy to mind-numblingly scambling in terms of my workload, and by the time I get home at night I'm beat.

I still want to continue with the PN, but time is tight. I have so little time I haven't even been able to read all the recent updates to my other favorite PNs, and I haven't been able to comment on the work people have been posting in the customs section...

Hopefully things settle down just a bit soon, and I'll be able to get back on the horse. :)

I really like what you did with Vash. He doesn't look like Bib Fortuna at all. He doesn't even look evil anymore. :)

The Kel Dor, though, is my favorite! Major props on the hands. At first glance I thought you had used humanoid hands and I was a little put off, then I realized they WERE Plo hands :P. A very, very nice job here. I like how you incorporated the mask with the flightsuit, too. It's a nice touch that distinguishes him from Plo. Did you shorten the spikes coming off the mask? They're just the right length here, but for some reason I remember them being longer on the stock head...

Congrats on a fine update!

Where to begin...where TO begin?!

This is all great stuff, CHEWIE.

Rykrof: I like this gear for him. It's semi-official looking, but also bordering on "this is what I was wearing when the **** hit the fan, so I pulled on a vest and here we go!" I agree to that the head looks especially good here. I'm not sure if you didn't just get a very good picture or what, but keep doing whatever it is you did. :)

Wookiee: great paint. I like the darker fur on Wookiees anyway, and stripping down the gear makes him look more like either a simple grunt or a non-military walking carpet for the streets of Naboo or Coruscant. I like the more colorful hair ties.

I love the detail on the urban sniper, but I'm not sure I buy the Rancor Keeper hood as it's currently attached. I wonder if you couldn't cut a hole in the top and fit the hood down onto the helmet...almost like a kama for the helmet? I like it, but sitting so high on the head you have to guess it would blow off pretty easily (not good for a sniper) :) The one reason I really, really like the idea of the drape around the helmet, though, is that it would reduce flare coming into to optics from surrounding light sources... again, I dig the concept, I just wish it fit better over the crown of the helmet.

The Urban Commando rocks. I really like the Commander helmet in all white... I have several of those, and I need to deck one out accordingly, I think. The Phase II helmet on the Commando body really works. I also like how you've incorporated Phase II armor in the legs.

The Nute is a nice update for the figure. I would suggest a brown wash on that red, though. He looks more plastic than your customs usually do. :) That's more a complient to your work than a slam on this custom. It's very good by almost every standard, but by your standards it could be a touch better. :)

Hod is one of the coolest figures you've ever made. From the fit of the parts to the finish of the painting, I can't find a flaw. Making him blind AND among the last of his kind creates an instant classic backstory that I am sure will mesh well with the cast of R.E.  I hope we see lots of him, and if you ever do sell him, I'll armwrestle someone for him :P

Congratulations on a very nice update, CHEWIE.

Do you have Phase 1 Clones to do all the early stuff with (Geonisis, Clone Wars battles) before you get to the ROTS era?

Sounds like you have a good plan in the works, CC!

Just a suggestion: Make your PN as little about Canon continuity as possible. You'll have a heck of a time making sure everything meshes properly.

Try making your own story without adopting any known characters... it sounds harder, but I think it's actually easier :)

Whoa! Hemble, I knew you were the paint master, but these take your skills to the next level!

*very* realistic setting and postures. Nice use of the OOM-9 ant. on the Gonk.

Fritz -

Sweet! The removable helmet you made for the Clone Pilot in and of itself is a nice piece - you should make a rem. helmet Clone pilot.  The whole figure is another sweet addition to your undead army...

Congrats on a job well done!

DD -

I *LOVE* the solid white, and the subtle weathering makes him look very realistic. I'd say give him a weapon or two and call him complete.

Bravo!
