I hope this doesn't turn into one of those notorious threads that are at Scum where people open a thread, say they are going to post their work, and never do.

I do hope you post your stuff.

question?  how do you post pics?  I have some stuff done that i'd like to share I just need to get the film developed.  I have access to a scanner, and I was thinking about getting them developed to a disk instead? LMK.

Well, you will need to download them into jpeg format onto your computer, then upload them to a website.  Once you do that, you can either post links or post the pics here.  If you can get them uploaded onto a website first, it will be easier to explain how to view them here.

It's a little awkard turning my head to view the sideways images and yeah they are a bit blurry - but good job on these!  I can tell that you have put a lot of effort into them.

The painting for the most part looks very well done.  I can see a bit of weathering (which is cool) and the lines look straight.  Much, much better than my first customs.

Excellent job (especially for your first attempts!)
Your lines look very crisp, which is one of the hardest parts of painting clones.  Good stuff!  Keep it up!

Title: Is it worth anything?
Post by: Ner_vod on August 2, 2005, 04:57 PM
I recently went to Wal-Marty and got a cloe commander and a quick draw clone. They were both Hasbro repaints. The commander was painted green and the quick draw was a shocktrooper. I was wondering if they worth the same as an ordinary hasbro 3.75" figure because I was planning on making a custom with the clone commander. Can someone tell me? I'm only 13 yrs. old so I don't really know. ???
Title: Re: Is it worth anything?
Post by: CHEWIE on August 2, 2005, 05:11 PM
Well, they might be "worth" a little more, but the real value in collecting is enjoying your figures, not selling them.  Customize that green Clone Commander if you want to... but if you do have access to the red Clone Commanders, I would personally customze that version over the green one.

 :P

i have a feeling that these new grn cln comm's & qd shktroops will be popping up everywhere pretty soon.  I saw a grn cln comm today and passed on him i've got enough reds in my army anyway.  go for the custom on him and don't forget to post pics if you can.  it's so great to see younger fans of star wars get into the customs area.

It does my heart proud to see such a young customiser. There is hope for the youth of today. Hey man forget about how much it could be worth. Just have fun and customise the hell out of it. Or you could do what i do and keep that one and get another one to customise. I cant wait to see it man. ;D

How did you add the visor and the antenna on his shoulder?

I used a junk credit vard from the mail and cut it up for the visor. But my visor is a little off. And I use a piece of an engine or either a muffler piece from the Modifiers cars and the antenna piece on it was used from the Saga Bespin Luke. I first used elmer's superglue but it wasn't that strong so I used epoxy. I still have to add anther antennaon his left earpiece. Also I give credit to Gregorbian for helping me.

Nice job, I like that it has the removable helmet.  The top of the helmet should have those brown leather straps on either side of the fin.  I'm also a fan of not weathering the clones, I just dig the crisp look.

Thaks for the comments. Although I need to fix him up a bit. I might repaint some parts like his right knee pad 'cuz it looks faded a bit. Since I just bought Super Sculpey yesterday, I'm gonna add those to brown parts on top of the helm and another antenna. And I saw Owen D.'s Cody and it looks awsome.

Great stuff shopao!  I like the use of the fake credit card, those things are so handy!  ;)
I think that a little more weathering would look good on this guy, normally I like "clean" clones, but for Cody, a little bit of battle damage would be a nice touch.
Did you make his jetpack?

I haven't made the jetpack yet because I didn't have the right clay at the time. But now that I bought super sculpey I'm gonna try and find some time to work on the jetpack.

I noticed you took off his legs to paint.  Has anyone ever taken the arms off or even apart for painting?  Does "boil-and-pop" work for the joints as well?

I've considered trying this, but don't want to hose a whole clone.  The way I've been doing it is just taking off the helmet and hands, and it's a pain still!

I tried to boil and pop the arms but it seemed it might rip apart. For the legs it's kinda hard to put back so I might try to soften it up with hot water.

Here's Commander Shopao, my own creation.

Backstory:CC 1160, also known as Commander Shopao was trained by ARC
Alpha along with Gree, Cody, and the other commanders. There he befriended C. Gorb, Jedisearch,Corp. Sureshot and moany others. Shopao's specialty was the sky. He and his
squad were called "helljumpers" because they jump from gunships on
daring missions.Their job was to deploy to areas on the the battlefield when troops
couldn't get their on ground. During the attack on Coruscant, Shopao was under the
command of General Tiin. On that mission, Shopao and his squad jumped down to Republica
500 and rescue as many senators and politicians as possible. Shopao got his name when he destroyed a TF cruiser by throwing a sandwich called shoapo into the reactor core. (Nah, just
joking 'bout that part, but it would be cool though). Shopao was killed while trying to takedown
a Jedistarfighter from the outside when it crashed. He died honorably while Executing Order 66.
Shopao's gear consists of a breather on his chest that also has a holoprojector and also gives him data on the climate, atmospheric conditions, density, and other things. He has a wrist gauntlet on his left arm that consists of a small screen, communicator, Kamino Kyber darts, and a mini fusion cutter.
His weapon of choice are the ARC rifles and the Republic Commando DC-17m rifle.

Sorry, the text got kinda misplaced. Anyways LMK what you think. Also should I switch the Saga Clone pilot breather to an ROTS Clone pilot breather? I also plan on weathering him.

Post by: Gregorbian on September 19, 2005, 10:17 PM
Very cool design.  I love the backstory!  ;)

I think you should add a jet-pack of some kind to give some more credence to the sky-jumper aspect of his bio.  I think you should also add some sort of sidearm holster to his hip or ankle, just 'cuz it's cool  ;)
The armor designs are well done - what color is that (it looks gray)?
I really like the Saga Clone Pilot breather, the smaller size works better.
The pics are a bit blurry so It's a little hard to see what's on his left arm  :-\

I really like this guy, nice job!  8)

So, did this start as a white clone, or one in the black outfit?

I'd say he wants some help.....

to start off the best way would be to sculpt it and then if you want cast it.

The only other way I can think of is....

using 2 or 3 41 SA clones "antenna" you could make the antenna cody has as for the visor instead of sculpting use some "card" paper and super glue. For thing lines use a sharpie.
Title: Re: Is it worth anything?
Post by: Quazar on November 19, 2005, 12:49 PM
In the store, obviously, all figures are "worth" the same.  The harder to find ones can sell for more on the secondary market, so they are probably more valuable in terms of re-sale value or if you can't find them in the stores yourself.

I was amazed to find a green commander a couple weeks ago, given how impossible it is to find anything good in my area with the large number of collectors (and scalpers) here.  But I saw a few more green guys a short while later, which leads me to agree with the above assessment that, yeah, they are becoming easier to find and therefore "cheaper".

But, as Chewie said, they're YOUR figures now, enjoy them however you wish!  I recently pillaged some rare (and expensive) old EU figures for customs 'cause, what the heck?  I wanted to and it was fun.
