LEGO / LEGO 2016
« on: June 11, 2015, 02:16 PM »
Well, according to the EW.com article revealing the first TFA toys, the Buildable First Order Stormtrooper won't be available till 2016, so we have our first set for next year already. :)

80+ parts to it?  Those Buildable figures have a bit more to them than I thought they'd be, as far as a kit goes.

The title's a mouthful, but I wanted to start a thread about the Calender Hasbro sent out to media outlets (including us), and the idea behind it.  Hasbro wanted fans to take a look back, day-by-day, at figures from the line's long history, as they count down the days to September 4th and The Force Awakens toys.  Click the image below and check out the story. :)

Clicky To Check Out!

The calender is pretty neat, and features a different toy on every day.  Vintage included, and lots of different things.  Some I'd not thought about in a long time actually.

It's an interesting little promo item and we took a few pictures to check out if you're interested.  I particularly enjoyed the Ralph McQuarrie birthday page. :)

And yes, of course Jedi Defender's favorite all-time figure made it into the photo shoot.  He just was running by anyway.  ::)

Also, we can use this thread to maybe look back on the line and some of our favorite things.  Figures or whatever that we maybe haven't thought about in a while?

One that came to my mind while trying to snap a few pictures was Pote Snitkin...  Highlighy underrated figure, kind of forgotten in a weird way.  The sculpting on him is really ahead of its time, for a POTF2 figure.  Something about it still just really holds up against the best looking current figures.

I'm always up for upgrades on figures that aren't as poseable, but really Pote I'm ok with as he is too.  He's just a nice looking figure, and had some pretty cool gear to boot!  Loved that big mace type blade thing he had.

If you hit us up on social media on this topic, feel free to use #ForceFridayCountdown in your post as fans gear up for The Force Awakens toys!

The Sequel Trilogy / Launch X-Wing, Score Tickets To The Premiere?
« on: April 29, 2015, 07:04 PM »
Well, maybe...  so far, they haven't, but two dudes sent an X-Wing into space via weather balloon to ask for premiere tickets, and I hope they get them. :)

https://www.yahoo.com/movies/star-wars-fans-x-wing-space-j-j-abrams-117681922342.html

I'm kinda curious what that X-Wing looks like, after I assume coming back.  I'm going to assume similar to as if Luke landed it, since that seemed to be his weak point.

GG released pre-orders for their C7 exclusives...  Took a while it seems.

Clicky pics to check out the story! :)

I'm not a big mini-bust buyer, but I kinda want that McQuarrie one.  Oh well.  I'll live without it I guess.

Disneyland appears to be getting an exclusive repaint of the Build-A-Droid R2 mold, as R2-D60...  celebrating 60 years of the park.

Caught this on Yakface...

http://yakfaceforums.com/main/2015/03/25/disneyland-60th-anniversary-r2-d60-figure/

Soooooo, yeah, I want one of those.  :-\  Phruby, you busy? :P

I dig the deco...  All blue R2-D2, more or less.  It's a neat variant.  $12.95...  Not a bad price, but limited to 6000 which seems awful low.

1:6 Scale Figures and Collectibles / Hot Toys 1/6 Obi-Wan Kenobi ANH
« on: February 16, 2015, 09:12 PM »
Wow do 1/6 figures keep getting more and more expensive, but man does Hot Toys knock them out of the park too.   :-\

Clicky

I dig the light-up sabers they're doing.  That's quality stuff...  I was trying hard to see if they added the patches and little details to OWK's costume.  Couldn't really tell by pics, but if not I'd be a tad disappointed due to the heft $219.99 price tag on this one.  >:(

The Wookiee Arcade / GOG.com Going Nuts Releasing Star Wars Games
« on: January 21, 2015, 12:48 AM »
My dreams are coming true!

First GOG.com released X-Wing and TIE Fighter...  Now?  Oh my!

GOG released KOTOR II, Battlefront II, Galactic Battlegrounds, X-Wing Vs. TIE Fighter, and my favorites...

Dark Forces, and X-Wing: Alliance too!

Yes, two of the ULTIMATE storylines in Star Wars EU, ever IMHO, are now simple downloadable games that'll play on modern machines.

To boot?  X-Wing: Alliance may damn well be moddable so if you have a fast rig, check out X-Wing: Alliance Upgrade...  they've made insanely detailed ops for the game for YEARS (since its release), and can make Alliance look like it was made yesterday visually.

Your PC will need to be beefy to run Alliance Upgrade downloads but I'm guessing they're already making sure it's compatible and everything works.  They can take the game from dated looking, to something you'd see on any modern console (or better).  Their work is professional to say the least.

Other Collectibles / Bandai Star Wars Vehicle Model Kits
« on: January 8, 2015, 09:08 PM »
No thread I see, so I figured I'd start one...

Bandai is doing more than just figures, but also jumping headfirst into vehicle model kits.  They're molded in-color on the sprue, and with a ton of detail.  I've seen a few comparison videos of the Darth Vader TIE and X-Wing, which were released right before the holidays, and compared to Fine Molds they're really quite nice.

Fine Molds were considered pretty high up there...  Kind of difficult to trump really, and vastly superior to Revel kits you'd find in the toy aisle.  Their one Millenium Falcon is insanely complex and boasts that it is comprised of the same # of parts as the studio model...  That's pretty impressive.

These Bandai kits are a different egg but hyper detailed.  They're giving a wide variety of display options, even optional different nosecones on the X-Wing (a first).  They also have optional "laser blast" effects, and the ships so far have little bases that are actually pieces of the Death Star's surface and they interlock.  Pretty slick stuff.

Now today, they just listed for pre-order on HLJ kits for the AT-ST and TIE Fighter...  The TIE looks like a must-buy for me, to go with an X-Wing.

Both are only $16.07 right now too.  You get a good bit for that price it seems.

I'm anxious to see what they do with a Star Destroyer, Y-Wing, and AT-AT...  and of course the Falcon.

The Sequel Trilogy / The Force Awakens Trailers
« on: November 17, 2014, 09:07 PM »
Sooner, rather than later?

If "trailer spoilers" are a thing ( ??? ), don't read that article.

Let the drooling and price complaints commence!

http://www.sideshowtoy.com/blog/hot-toys-stormtrooper-sixth-scale-collectible-figures

You can get a single trooper for a paltry $199.99.

You can get two troopers, with bonus Heavy Blaster Rifle & Mousedroid for $399.99.

Or you can get a limited release two trooper set for $399.99, with bonus Rifle Rack from the hangar control room.

While these look simply amazing, the price hurts.  $50 a month isn't too bad though, to own them, but plunking $400 down...  yeesh.

TV-9D9 / Star Wars Rebels - Season One (Spoilers)
« on: October 6, 2014, 02:47 PM »
This is on the WatchDisneyXD App, and I watched it over the weekend...

There are spoilers here if you're waiting for it to be on TV or can't watch it so beware, more or less.

I did NOT like this episode as much as the previous one.  There was some darkness with the implication that the weapon they were after does nasty things to living beings, but the idea a simple rifle can shoot and bring down a walker?  Kinda lame.

Likewise, how'd the Empire have and use these on Zeb's species, but now need prototypes to mass produce them?  They had them before, and used them to put down a species more or less!

I felt like the pacing was a little goofy, and 3PO and R2 were really crowbarred into it IMO.

I did like I guess why they were there, and where they ultimately wound up, and how there are more to the rebellion (and more powerful groups obviously) than our main characters.

I didn't loathe this episode by any means, but it just wasn't as good as I was hoping.

I liked the Capt. Rex cameo though, and I'm all the more happy I own a Starspeeder toy sized to action figures. :)

Oh, one more thing, the alien animation is thus far a good deal more redundant than it was in TCW...  I know that's a thing the animators try to overcome as a series goes on but it's been way too noticeable so far.  They really need to diversify their alien character library they can go to.  The Aqualish all wearing the same jacket is getting old.

1:6 Scale Figures and Collectibles / SS 1/6 TIE Pilot
« on: July 22, 2014, 04:15 PM »
And another 1/6 Imperial Trooper teased today...  Now the TIE Pilot, which is must-have to me, is being teased.  I may order this fellow out of the gate.  :)

29
Frankly, unless the SS one is vastly superior, I love the Hasbro one and I'd be going that option.  It's cheap, but was scaled pretty spot-on (despite for years the 4" one being way too large).

I've told myself I'd only buy Bossk and "Militaries" figures from Sideshow, and then barely any PT stuff...  all OT.

Sideshow is making me think I need to reconsider that because I can't afford even all the OT stuff they're putting out, as great as it looks.  There's just tons of it!

Just a heads up that Sideshow will be revealing apparently a behemoth Darth Vader figure at Comic-Con in a couple weeks.  Should make JesseVader go crazy. :)
