Anyone a fan of David O. Russell (Three Kings)? I [Heart] Huckabees looks to be right up there with Flirting with Disaster and Spanking the Monkey:)

For weirdness:

Huckabees "Corporate" site

Anyone planning on checking out the new Jet Li movie Hero this weekend?  I saw the trailer last night and it looked pretty decent, similar to Crouching Tiger in some aspects (with the flying fight scenes and stuff)

I'll eventually go see Hero, although I'm kind of scared it'll be a rip off of Crouching Tiger and Matrix...

I saw Bourne Supremecy during my vacation last week - It was pretty good, a good sequel, but the Identity was better. Too much hand-held camera work, I think.

Ill wait for the DVD release.  Got burned on Crouching Tiger.  It was average to me and not Theater worthy.  Wish I waited for video release.

I'd agree with those comments about Crouching Tiger.  Neat movie, but not theater necessary.  The previews of Hero seem to have  a few more panoramic scenes necessitating a big screen viewing.  I'll likley go see it.

I am looking forward to  "Hero", I have a very deep love of  martial arts movies.  I don't really care for the American features  Jet Li does, I prefer his Chinese movies.

Crouching Tiger was great, went to see it in the theater twice. Kung Fu was just as important to me as Star Wars while growing up, so these types of movies really appeal to me. Bring on the Chinese folklore!

I paid too much for an R2 DVD a while back. If you didn't like CTHD, you'll hate Hero. It takes a lot of the more artsy aspects of that movie and amplifies them tenfold. Some stuff looks amazing, but I was really left empty by the whole thing.

really? i absolutely loved it. so much, that i'm going to have to go and see it. i thought it was actually a little better than crouching tiger, but i have to give that movie props for being awesome as well.

not theater worthy? i'd have to disagree with you on that one. i had to go into manhattan to see it, because it was only in limited release, and had to get my tickets 3 days in advance just to make sure we got in. and i thought it was worth every penny. but then again, i grew up with saturday afternoon kung-fu theater - watching badly dubbed shaw brothers flicks till i was running around the house trying to flying body kick my brother, and tying string around a colander my mom had in the kitchen to make my own flying guillotine  ;D

Not that I'm dissing CTHD. I went out of my way to see it in the theater. I thought CTHD accomplished something Hero doesn't - it had very Westernized characters and succeeded in conveying its emotional and spiritual themes through action. I just don't think Hero comes through as strong and thinks its too artsy in its presentation to just be plainly appreciated as a "kung-fu" flick. Hence, if someone didn't like CTHD, I wouldn't point them toward Hero.

I guess what I find with Hero is that it lacks a couple things I gravitate toward, which are strong characters (in a western sense I mean; Hero's characters are obviously a more Eastern ideal, more philosophical and spiritual than what we're used to) and action with meaning. Hero does have "action with meaning" and strong characters, but its so tied to Eastern concepts that it's a bit lost on me, or at least I came out of it feeling I didn't get the impact its obviously trying to convey.

I have a very important question for anyone who bought The Girl Next Door on dvd today.

In the unrated version, does Elisha Cuthbert get naked.

The fate of the free-world, and the potential sale of several copies of the dvd, depend on it.

Some guy at HTF posted this:

Quote
- The porno Eli watches is more "explicit."
- Additional footage after Eli shows Matt the tape.
- Additional nudity in the strip club.
- The "lap dance" scene has the strippers naked, not clothed.
- Additional dialog from Kelly after beating up Matt.

I bought it, having never seen it, and made it about 1/3 of the way through before I realized this was a pretty iffy Risky Business knock-off, and all indicators pointed towards a no-go on the Cuthbert front.  >:( What crap.

It was my immediate assumption that she wouldn't do it, as she's young and trying to build a career and the like.

Thanks for the info.

no. but it was still a pretty funny movie, actually.

and the funniest parts are not really in the movie, but on the flipside, with the bonus features. they actually go to the adult video convention in las vegas, and there's some really funny **** that happens that they filmed. it was almost worth the price of the dvd just to watch that guy run around in the lobby of the hotel asking other men if they wanted to make out with him, or make love to him later that night. freakin' hilarious.

I saw Hero last night - I really enjoyed it. Often the wire-work was too cheesy and the plot too confusing, but overall the movie was very good. I'll be picking it up on DVD when the time comes.

Just got back from seeing Garden State, and it was fantastic! Watching Star Wars sometimes you forget about what a great actress Natalie can be when she has something meaningful to work with.
