Title: Endor Wave
Post by: BigBadBothan on December 24, 2003, 02:22 PM
This in straight from Rebelscm.com:

Rebelscum reader 'Celticsfan' informs us that Star Wars Insider magazine has details of new upcoming toys for 2004. A new Battle of Endor-themed wave is planned including Han Solo in AT-ST Driver gear (shown in the magazine,) General Crix Madine, and General Lando Calrissian. Toys R Us exclusive toys include Red Leader's X-Wing Fighter (also shown) and several new multipacks like the "Skirmish at Carkoon" set we previously reported on. Fans of the Screen Scene Jedi Council sets will be pleased to know that more are on the way, incuding a center floor section. Looks for the first new set to include Ki-Adi-Mundi, Yoda, and Qui-Gon Jinn.

I'm happy about the Han and Madine, but I really don't care for another Lando. And what about the Ewoks, are they still on their way, or are they gone?

I am interested in seeing what they come up with for the Lando.  That POTF2 version is strange with the wide stance.  I am thinking they can come up with a nicer version.  I hope the Ewoks are going to come.  We'll see.

Eegads! GH has a pic up of Han AT-ST Disguise. It's an Imperial officer repaint with a gigantic Han head popped on it. The plus is the helmet appears to be new, and includes a chinstrap.

I'm caught in the middle on this one. Part of me is happy we're getting obscure versions of core characters, the other is pissed that its such a low-effort kit bash. I think my main problem (and this was with the original officer figure) is the not-too-poseable arms. From the start they should have made straight arm variants for the figure, since the sockets at the elbows are so easy to pop off.

We're definitely in POTJ2 era now. Some of the stuff is drop-dead amazing, the other stuff is clever retooling/repaints. I'll live with this I guess. :)

It's passable as a figure, and Hasbro deserves credit for finding ways to keep core characters fresh, but he doesn't do it for me.

I think this figure looks pretty good, it's always nice to get a ROTJ Han that isn't stuck in some stupid action-pose. If this guy has a removable helmet I may buy him, but otherwise I don't plan to. I wonder what kind of acces. this will come with... Probably just a blaster.

Post by: Darth Broem on December 29, 2003, 10:09 AM
I actually think that looks pretty good!  You can pretend it's a new AT-ST Driver or Han.  I was expecting to see the POTF2 AT-ST driver instead with no arm articulation.  I think I will get this version.  I never expected them to actually make this to begin with.

Post by: Jesse James on December 29, 2003, 11:41 AM
I'm actually somewhat excited to get the figure because it's a prime army building/customizing (Head swaps) opportunity for me.

I've been a proponent for a new AT-ST pilot for a long time and this Han makes a fairly decent looking generic pilot.  Head swaps will abound though for me, as the helmet is indeed removable (with chin strap, whippee!!!), which rocks.

He's partly rehashed from the Imp. Officer it seems, but has a new left arm (at least) and what appears to possibly be new legs as well, though they're not articulated any differently.  They do appear to be less spread apart than the POTJ officer's were.

The right arm appears rehashed, as does the body.

It would've been nice if Hasbro included the TIE pilot legs from the pack-in Bomber pilot, as they do fit the Officer sculpt perfectly and are articulated at the one extra point at the knees.

The helmet looks great...  It's big, as are the goggles, but as you can see in this photo below, the helmet's supposed to be really big.  They nailed it as far as I'm concerned (Though the chinstrap's white instead of black, not a biggie to me though).

So, all in all it's not a shabby looking figure at all I don't think...  High on anyone's list?  Not likely...  Necessary?  Not really...  But decent and good fodder/army building?  Yeah, it's ok.

I still want an Endor Han with a removable trench coat though, and neutral pose, and decent articulation, and working holster...  :)

You pretty much nailed it for me too JJ, I'll buy a few of these because it is an awesome AT-ST pilot...it makes for a good figure.  I still want an apology Han figure and will wait a few years for one.  If it doesn't come then this figure will make me a little madder because it represents what might have been.

Can't wait to see the rest of 2004...POTJ2 baby! I am sooooo pumped for what they last 7 waves for 2004...more OT figures, some much needed PT figures, and hopefully the Episode III sneak peaks...should be great. I just hope beyond hope a repeat of 2002 is not in store where they throw everything out the window for trash

Although I am happy that there is a "new" Han being released, since he's my favorite character, I am in the boat with those of you who would much rather have had an "ultimate-ish" Endor Han.  I have both the buff POTF2 Han, and the craptastic action feature version from Saga, and neither one is very impressive to me.  When we first heard rumor of an Endor Han, I was really hoping it was a regular version of him, articulated well, with working holster and removable trenchcoat.  Hopefully this figure will still come eventually though, maybe there is another Endor wave with all the Ewok rumors we have heard, we'll see I guess.  I'm still happy to get this figure though, like many have said, its good for those who customize as well.

I just got my FC mag and was flipping through...  Insider had a lot of "new" images this go-round, but nothing we've not seen before aside from Red 1, and the AT-ST Han.

The pics of the other figures are really clear though, and I have to say that Gold Leader and the TIE Pilot are 20x as great as I thought before...  Gold Leader appers to have some extra articulation in one arm at least...  The TIE Pilot's bordering on "super" articulation.  Why, I do not know, but he does sport a lot of joints so far including ball/socket knees.  Good for him!

Now if they'll only make everyone else that great! :)  Fleet Trooper, Hoth Reb. Trooper, Scouttrooper, Hoth Stormtrooper, and regular Stormtrooper, I'm looking at all of you!  :)  Oh and Endor Rebels too dangit!

But anyway the Red Leader images aren't anything to write home about.  The pilot's crammed into the ship and it's a distant shot so what he's exactly looking like is impossible to tell by these images.  Almost looks like a bigger (removable) style helmet, but after those possible prototype images leaked that Scott posted a while ago, I'm not gonna hold my breath for a decent pack-in with that fighter.

Oh, and the socket for an astro is empty, so no word there either though I'm wagering no R5 for him.  Maybe carded someday, or we can hope at least.

The clear images of all the other upcoming Jabba's Palace and Tatooine figures look great though.  The articulation on some of those figures is far beyond Hasbro's norm...  Now if they'd only keep this up all the time, and for all figures.

Lando Skiff's still gotta be one of my favorites just in images so far.  WOW!
Title: Re: Endor Wave Official
Post by: Brian on December 29, 2003, 03:42 PM
I just got my Insider this afternoon as well, and there really are some great images posted in there of some of the upcoming figures.  Like Jesse James said, not too much new really other than the Han and the Red 1.  They did confirm the Target glasses in there, and have a picture of the Obi-Wan glass with figure that was posted a little while back.  It does say the glasses are plastic, in case anyone was wondering.  Looking at the pictures again of these previously announced figures, 2004 really looks to be a banner year for collecting, at least in my opinion.  Sculpts look great, articulation is improved as a whole, and lots of OT figures.  Now if we are all able to find them in stores, all will be right with the universe  ;).

Thanks for the heads up Scott, its nice to get a chance to see pics of both Lando and Madine.  I notice Hasbro isn't giving the little line at the end "come back next month to see pics of the next wave....", like they used to :).  Also, just noticed...with the exception of the wrist/hand part, don't Lando's and Madine's right arms look a lot the same?  Not that I am complaining, just an observation.
Title: Re: Endor Wave Official
Post by: Muftak on January 12, 2004, 12:38 PM
You're right Mosnab--probably quite a bit of parts-sharing going on between those two figures (notice Lando's shoulder holster looks removable, making the torsos identical as well.) I'm not sure how well they pulled off the holster, otherwise everyhting looks great.

(Now, who wants to lay odds Lando or Madine won't ship with the assortment initally, a la Dignitary #2 or Ack-Med Beq?)

Awesome.

I have been waiting for a normal General Lando since that shite-sandwich came out for POTF2. This is superb! Is that a softgoods cape (I hope)?

Han AT-ST is cool. I really don't think he had the whole uniform on in ROTJ, but this is still a cool figure for an AT-ST pilot army builder, so who cares?! It also looks as though he may come with a commlink, judging by his hand pose.

Madine...sweeeeeet. I'm glad we're finally getting this guy. Now I can set him up with Mon Mothma and Ackbar and feel like the rebels have a fighting chance! Sweeet!

All in all though, this is certainly going to be the year for Lando!!!  ;D

More great '04 figures for sure. Madine and Lando look superb. Glad to see they nailed Madine's hair just right - it's super 80's. I still wish they could have changed the arms of the ATST Han or something, its the only part of the Imp Officer that really stinks of kitbashing, no big deal though.

Makes me really want carded Luke and Leia Endor figures with removable helmets now, though. And where is another Ewok or two?

Great stuff and now I'm greedy for more!

Have to pick up a few madines to customize for my Rebel Briefing dio.
Title: Re: Endor Wave Official
Post by: Jesse James on January 12, 2004, 03:53 PM
Well, my early thoughts are this:

-Lando General...  Wow, what a really nice looking figure.  Colors seem spot-on from what I can tell, and if that shoulder holster is removable that just kicks ass plain and simple.  The fact it is functional is great unto itself!

Looks like some nifty articulation going on too possibly.  Ball/socket right arm at least, though it almost appears the left arm isn't articulated byeond the shoulder.

Kudos to Hasbro for not sculpting the shoulder pad to the body as they did with the open vest of the Rebel Endor trooper from Saga.  Very limiting to the arm articulation.

Great little officer's blaster it seems too, a nice addition and the cape looks plastic from what I can tell.  It's holding shape in the images, so sadly no silk cape...   That, to me, would be the only major gripe I had with Lando...  His inability to sit maybe would be a second gripe since he did do a fair bit of sitting in those duds, but still it looks great.

Yet another amazing fodder figure.

-General Crix Madine...  Wow, another doozie, but dull as hell.  Still, it's great to see "Old Supercuts" back in action...  (Get it, "old blood & guts" was General Patton...  General Madine's "Old Super cuts"?  It's a joke son!)

His blue color on his Spec. Forces shirt MAY be off, I'm not sure, but it is looking pretty decent.  I can't see his left arm enough to gauge what articulation it may have beyond the shoulder...  His right arm, like Lando's, appears to have a ball/socket joint though, great for posing in some amazing "Look at this diagram" poses.  He could be talking about anything from the latest assault on the Shield Generator to how Hasbro's stocks recently decreased on his handy pie chart.

Either way he looks more poseable than he probably was expected to be.

Again, no knee articulation and that limits him some (and Lando who deserved it more IMO), but no biggie.  A tactical thingie maybe would've been nice with Madine, but I'll take an officer's baton and some extra articulation any day over that, if it's between the two.

So, as for shared parts...  I've blown the images up and right now I'm going to tentatively say there's no shared parts except possibly the right shoulder...

The chest badge on both figures is clearly different when magnified, and not a slight retooling but they're actually set differently on each figure.  The lines and folds of fabric sculpted into each uniform area of each figure also indicate separate sculpts.

So, while parts could've been used I'm gonna say for now that they're both completely separate sculpts as far as I can tell from enlarged images.

So in conclusion...

Both look great (And I still like Han AT-ST too, just from an army building standpoiont alone), and while I'm disappointed in no silk cape for Lando (or so it seems) I'm ecstatic to see his great little holster.  Hell, I'll make my own cape for him if need be.  :)

Articulation in the knees for sitting officers might've been a nice touch but that still seems like a step Hasbro's not going to take yet...  for now.  Maybe it was Madine's skirt piece and Lando's molded cape that even kept them from considering it perhaps?

Either way, great figures...  This is yet another wave I'll probably order a case of since it's got customizing fodder galore, and army building potential in it.  Head swap officers, and Head swap Imperial Army Regulars (AT-ST Pilots) galore!

Thanks for the heads up Scott, its nice to get a chance to see pics of both Lando and Madine.  I notice Hasbro isn't giving the little line at the end "come back next month to see pics of the next wave....", like they used to :).
I noticed that as well and really miss it!!  It's the next best thing to getting pictures of the new figures is to see the actual Hasbro confirmation.  Anyway, I did notice the descriptions of the figures naming several other possible/potential future releases.   On the description for Lando:
Quote
After the daring rescue of Han Solo from Jabba the Hutt, Calrissian became a General in the Alliance Forces. He volunteered to spearhead the starfighter attack on the second Death Star while Admiral Ackbar led the capital ships.

Also, on Han Solo AT-ST Driver's description, it reads:
Quote
With the help of the native Ewoks, the Rebel strike team defeated the Imperial forces and destroyed the generator, paving the way for victory at the Battle of Endor.
And finally, on General Madine's description:
Quote
A strict military disciplinarian, General Crix Madine was an important Alliance officer and advisor to Mon Mothma. It was Madine who masterminded a number of crucial Alliance operations that paved the way for victory at the Battle of Endor. Madine was tasked with finding a way to destroy the shield generator protecting the second Death Star. His personally trained soldiers captured the Imperial shuttle, Tydirium. With this shuttle, Madine's troops, under the command of General Han Solo, infiltrated Imperial territory on the Sanctuary Moon.

So, between the 3 figures, they mention Ewoks, Jabba,Admiral Ackbar, Mon Mothma, and General Han Solo.   We know that Jabba and at least 2 ewoks will be made, but does this increase the chance that Acbar, Mon Mothma, or General Solo will be produced?  Personally, the only one I'd be excited about seeing other than the confirmed figures would be if they added Ackbar to 2004's lineup.  I'm sure they could do Mon Mothma better, but I would rather wait  till after the Ep III figures, since there are so many other figures I want first.

I really like everything about this figure, except his face. It's nice, but just seems POTF2-like. Look at Lando's face sculpt, and then Madine's... See what I mean? Anywho it looks like the elbow-joints are ball-socket, so that's great.

One of the better looking figures from Hasbro, as far as the face sculpt goes. I hope that holster is removable, that'd make this figure one of my favorites ever - as long as the elbows are ball-socket like I think they are.

Lando is a great figure, POTJ great.  Madine is too, but he's a little dull.  Still glad they made him and these two figs make me very happy.  Han... okay.  Hasbro seems very intent on making us happy and they certainly have this year.  Kudos.

Post by: Scott on January 13, 2004, 10:44 AM
I absolutely love the Madine, the face might be a tad bit off but everything else is spot on.  I'm really intersted in this new elbow joint, the picture makes it look a little weird.  otherwise he's been on my want list for a while and I'm finally glad to get him Dodonna and Rieekan all in a 6 month time

Lando is also an awesome figure.  The holster doesn't bother me too much, I'll store his gun in there.  Again 1000x better than the first Lando.  I think a SA Bespin Lando and SMuggler Lando are also needed but finally a much needed apology is given to us.

Han is great too for an AT-ST driver stoopid for a Han figure.  Eh, I'll get a couple for sure, great Wave and another great effort by Hasbro who has been hitting home runs like Barry Bonds recently.  Can't wait to see Bespin and Dagobah!!!  Hopefully at the Toy Fair

I am assuming you wanted bendeable knees?  That would be nice I suppose.  Personally it does not bother me.   They have not made anything for Madine to sit on yet I don't think.  Lando, I suppose you could have him sit in the Falcon but as of yet you can't really see the knees bend there anyway.  Same with the AT-ST pilot.  Unless Hasbro starts cranking out new vehicles with chairs or a rebel briefing room diorama.  I can see why they did not add that feature to these figures.  But hey, an excuse for a resculpt in the future!

I'm very pleased all the way around on this wave.  Nice sculpts for certain.  The elbow articulation is new and different.  Nice additional touch there.

I'm bummed about one thing:  I was going to get Dermot Crowley to autograph a General Madine figure at a show in April, and now he's cancelled.   DRAT!

Pretty nice, too bad its not an Ewok 2 pack as originally rumored and too bad Chief Chirpa isn't involved.  I'll buy him, he looks nice, its a little dissapointing though, should be more bang for the buck

Also...Hasbro has said 6 Ultras for 2004, are these it or will we see more based on Sales??????  (I hope there are more)

I hope the Ultra series continues as well, its a nice way for us to get some of the "bigger" items.  Aside from Riekaan, I think most people have been satisfied with what is included for around $10.  Anyways, I really wish we'd have some sort of Chirpa as well.  I'm one who would be happy with several new Ewoks to add to our collections (specifically the ones that were in the vintage line).  But, if nothing else, we should at least get the Chief :P.  Hopefully he will appear single carded, or as a two pack with another (a la Yoda w/Younglings).
Title: Re: Endor Wave
Post by: Jesse James on January 23, 2004, 05:00 PM
Count me in for at least two of this Ewok, and thanks for the scoop from Mosnab on the pics being put up.

I love the fact they included a spear with him too (A new spear at that, for some diversity).  It means he's good on the ground and in the air.  The original 101st Ewok.  :)

Would they be nicknamed "The screaming furballs"?

Looks like a darn nice figure sculpt to boot, and I think that prototype had at least right wrist articulation additionally to the regular Ewok articulation.

I still want a 2-pack with Catapult, and a 4-pack of warriors (4 colors, 4 unique hoods, and 2 bows/arrows and 2 spears) as other Ewok "ultra" sets that I think would sell well.

As I've said before, even if they reused the Teebo sculpt for the 4-pack it would still be one of the best army builder sets ever...  I'd even be happy if they used it for the Ewoks in the 2-pack.

Then save single carded Ewoks for a Wicket resculpt, Chief Chirpa, Mother Ewok with Woklings, and perhaps a Paploo resculpt...

The rest could be ultra army building sets for massive Ewok armies.

Nice to see some leaked proto images forcing Hasbro's official picks. Mwahahah. I think the figure looks great. This is what a "Deluxe" figure should be.

If I remember right, Hasbro stated that the Ultra line was seasonal for Spring and Winter, but something tells me I'm wrong in my memory of this. I'd sure like them to continue, since we're finally getting back on track to the Bacta Tank Luke era deluxes.

Don't let the ewoks with the Jump wings hear you guys praising him too much...to a real Ewok Paratroop, a Glider rider is still just a "Leg"...

I like this one, I just wish his hood was removable.  I think the Paploo we got is worse off because of his hood.

oh well, I'll buy 2 at least.  So i can have some ewoks that aren't Teebo or Teebo in Logray's headgear.

The carded images are up at RS.

The photo of Han on the insert is laughably bad. It looks like something someone would do for an office prank. Yikes. From the looks of the back of the card, the headsculpt is actually pretty killer!

Madine still looks cool. I don't care if he's not exciting. He's the MAN.

Lando looks better to me without the cape. Cool fig still though.

That insert pic of Han is really bad.  I'm looking forward to this wave though, should be a good one.  Like said above, looking at the back of that card it looks like the Han's headsculpt might be pretty good.  I've always been looking forward to a Madine too, boring or not, and the Lando looks very well done too.  I hope that these aren't tough to find since they are the last "Saga" wave before the card change.  Of course, I shouldn't complain, I'm still looking for the Jabba's Palace and Yavin waves :P.

I'm pretty happy with these 3 so far...  Another nice looking wave in the latter part of Saga here.  Glad to see stuff like this.

The General Lando and Madine are great fodder, as is the Han...  I'll surely nab multiples of each.  I'm wagering those goggles aren't removable though Scott.  :(  I'm a tad bummed there, but I'll live I guess.  I agree that they should be though.

I'm more curious what's in his left hand though, and exactly how poseable that left arm is...  Hmmm, that could be a bit more of a downer on that figure to me than the goggles.

The picture is enough to make me laugh right at my computer...  Love it.  Hasbro, stickk to making toys because graphics aren't your gig I guess.

I'm already devising a good General Cracken custom from either Madine, or the Lando General.  Hmmmm   :-\

Jeez, that insert pic sucks. There's one figure I won't be buying a carded second of.

It is about time Madine was made. I cannot wait to find these figures.
Han is alright. Lando looks cool too. Of course I need to find the past Yavin wave and now the Star Destroyer wave before these. Yikes! Hasbro is putting out the new figs way too fast. Can't keep up.

Last I have seen in St. Louis is Hoth & Tatooine wave, though I've heard of people finding the Jabba's Palace wave.

I have a dream that one day Hasbro will rise up and live out the true meaning of quality distribution.  I have a dream that one day on the red hills of Georgia the sons of former slaves and the sons of former slaveowners will be able to walk into Target or TRU and find all the latest figures hanging in plenty on the pegs.  I have a dream that one day even the stores of Walmart and KB, sometimes baren stores, will have enough figures of the Yavin Wave that even when multiple army building collecters come in on the same day, at the same time, there will still be more Gold Leader Pilots left on the pegs for single card or loose collectors to buy.  I have a dream today.

Well, I'm bored as hell so I've decided to make fun of Hasbro's Photoshop job, and made my own custom Luke with the worst picture I could find:

Just saw this morning that GH has their "preview" up for this wave, with several loose shots.  Looks like Han has a new headsculpt, which doesn't look too bad to me, especially for a ROTJ Han Solo.  However, looking at the close up pic, the paint apps look like they leave a little to be desired, but maybe it is better once in person.  Anyways, you can check out the Generals in all their glory here:

I was just popping in to mention the same thing about that paintjob on his head. It looks bad. It's a real shame since that Solo head does appear to be new and a really good ROTJ likeness.

I thought I was being too harsh, but if you then look at the Madine head shots in the same series, it's beautifully done, so there's no excuse. This appears to be the start of a trend as well. I'm of the opinion that Ozzel is about on par with the Han for paint apps on the head. Cheap. That's too bad. Quality control, please, Hasbro?

I think the GH samples are exactly that... early sales samples.

You can tell because of the Hasbro logo stickers applied to back of the cards (upper right hand corner).

I think that's why paint is mis-applied on Lando's eyes and Han's head looks strange.  Hopefully the final production head paint jobs will be finished up/finalized and look a little better.

So I finally took a had long look at these last night after picking up a set via trade.  Nice figures.  Han Sucks, but I am excited to do some head swaps with him in the same token once he is a little easier to find.  Great Harrison Ford likeness.  Too bad its such a stoopid choice of a figure

Madine is my favorite and one that I've wanted for ever so long and Lando is also top shelf, great Billy Dee likeness.

Haven't opened them yet, anyone else found them???

I think I have missed this wave several times. I keep running by Lando Skiff, Luke Hoth, ect. I think these figs are in that wave. I hope to find them before too long.

I lucked out.  A friend of mine found a couple of sets at a local store and picked the wave up for me.  I like the Lando the most.  Nicely done!  Madine ranks second for me.  The arm articulation is nice, and I like the figure overall.  I'm somewhat indifferent about the Han Solo.  It's good, but the freak collector in me knows it's kind of a kitbash.  But hey, I'll take a new figure over a reissue any day.

Cool Beans!

I just got an e-mail notice that my Endor Generals case has shipped from NewForce.  Now, I've just got to wait it out until June 1st for them to get here... which probably means I'll see tons of this wave at Target this weekend :P

Jeff

ps.
Anyone still looking for the Star Destroyer wave or Endor General Han or Madine, I've got extras from the case for sale here (http://www.jedidefender.com/yabbse/index.php?board=23;action=display;threadid=4281&start=0).

Actually--the Canadian can have 'em.

See, he's much older than I am; therefore, he's also gonna die much sooner than I am, as well--so we might as well let the old bastard die happy.

I've got plenty of time to search for these things, relatively speaking.

No, for me to die happy, you'd have to die first. :-*

It's no worry Scott, I'll end up with em.  I think Beth is looking, Jim (chuckles) and Jim (JuvyD) are probably both looking.  Hell, they may show up here.  I somehow ended up with 8 tie pilots and 6 gold leaders, so maybe I should back off with you anyway.  Besides, I don't think I could handle Matt's generosity ;)

Now to wait for the OTC of toys!

From newforcecomics

5/28 Update: We have been informed by Hasbro, that they have cancelled the balance of our wave 3 H and wave 7 M (http://newforcecomics.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=NFCC&Product_Code=84715M&Category_Code=SWP3C) orders, so unfortunately they have underproduced, and we will not receive the balance of our order to fill any more preorders. They have also pushed our vinatage 12" import order back from June to late July/August, but it is still firm.

Nicely done Big H!!! ::)

Well, I got my Endor case in the mail yesterday.

Han - Was he wearing the suit or not, I don't know, but I do know this is a pretty cool figure.  Great Han likeness and a more-accurate AT-ST helmet are cool.  I've got him posed at the Endor bunker with his mike-hand posed over his face so you can't really tell it's Han.  Just lloks like another Imp officer.
8/10

Madine - Finally.  Anytime we get a Vintage figure updated into the modern line is great IMHO.  I've got mine set up using his baton to point at the little DS2 Hologram from the R2-Q5 Imp Astromech from PotJ.  Ackbar and Mon Mothma look on with interest.  Great articulation in the arms!  Couldn't be much better for who he is.
10/10

Lando - GREAT update of the PotF2 wide-stanced monster.  The cape and holster are GREAT.  I LOVE this figure.  One of my favorites of 2004 so far!
10/10
