I haven't seen pics yet, but thought I'd start up a thread so we have one when pics surface...
I'm guessing this one will be like the AT-ST Drivers. If the price holds, that'll be a nice buy for $15. :)

Very glad to hear about this set. I'll definitely be picking up a few of these 2-packs, just like last years AT-ST crews. I had been hoping that Hasbro would follow through and give us the 2nd Scanning Trooper as a basic figure as they had originally planned. But it seems that since large accessories with basic figures are a thing of the past, this is the best avenue for doing that. I'm okay with that compromise. I just hope that with these 2 new Scanning Troopers we get new heads for both, and not one portrait that's the same as the TLC RED version.

Totally agree with Nick... This format's a great way to get "big accessories". So wish we'd gotten a DS Commander and DS Trooper set with the console.
Torryn Far and Echo Base Trooper with a console? I'd be in.
A certain staffer here owns a hardcopy of the Trooper with the box top. :)

Here's a question for you. Word is circulating that this pack will actually be 1 x Scanning Tech with the rest of the scanner gear plus an Imperial Officer. Does that ring a bell from the slideshow?

That does ring a bell now that you mention it. It seemed weird that it wasn't 2 of them.

Actually, I think it's a good thing. When I first heard about the Scanning crew pack, I was a little concerned that we might get a repeat of the TLC RED Scanning Trooper in addition to the 2nd, missing Scanning Crewman. But then I thought back to an old Hasbro-Star Wars Q&A session regarding the completion of the Scanning Crew set. And Hasbro seemed to have an interest in offering the 2nd Scanning Trooper with someone else from that scene: Vader, Captain Khurgee (Imperial Officer) or a Stormtrooper. So I'm hoping that it might be Captain Khurgee in this case.

I have the bottom of the box in droves... Like I have at least 30 of those, maybe more, so yeah, that's fantastic news.
Scanning Crew and hopefully the schmuck who calls for a Scanning crew "on the double". He seems appropriate.

The crewman with the lower box has a new head. Can't tell if that's just a recolored Needa head on the officer.
A non-removable helmet stormtrooper, thankfully...ball no hips, bummer.

Pretty positive that's a new head on the officer, and rank as well may be new. Disappointed in the leg choice, but such is life. It's an articulated black tunic officer. It'll do till they do an all new one on the card right? *sigh*
The box... More than meets the eye. :P
They're pretty easy snags for me... I want multiples of the top box for sure. And who am I kidding? I want multiples of the bottom part as well, despite having probably 30 or 40 of those things laying about already.
I'm aiming for several Catapults too. Expensive year at K-Mart for me.

Ugh, I'm going to need like 30 each of these and the nearest K-Mart is like 30 hours away. I did get lucky and found the Ewok sets at a Sears Grand but that store stocks toys about once per year so I'm hoping these are very abundant online.
I LOVE me some VOTC Stormtrooper though and will take that figure any day of the week over the POS ball joint hip version

Sears Grand here MAY be removing their toy aisles all together... :( I found some of the exclusives there as well, but alas my store is totally removing toys right now. not sure if they're moving to another part of the store perhaps, but ALL toys are being clearance there as we speak, and whole shelving units taken out.

These sets really do put K-Mart ahead of the pack. Honestly I felt last year's did as well, as far as exclusives go. TRU was the only store that came close with the Speederbike. Maybe a tie for me there, actually, but their 2-packs were the right price, and amazing products.

Awesome prototype preview Jesse. Really hope the final product matches up to those prototype shots.
Really excited to get that top box finally. I plan on picking up 2x of the "top" box set and 1x of the "bottom" box set so I can have two complete scanner tech box set-ups. Love the fact that the top box, the part that's new, is the one with the Stormie army builder.

I agree - the TOP exclusives last year IMHO were the K-Mart 2-packs and the TRU Speeder Bike - I also loved the ROTJ AT-ST and the Ewok multi-packs - all of those items make for great additions to your Endor-themed displays, in fact, they even prompted me to acquire a Vintage Kenner Ewok Village and Ewok Battle Wagon to augment my Endor displays and out of all the nonsense with Star Wars 3.75" collecting in 2012, re-vamping my Endor display was the most rewarding.
And K-Mart once again shows that they want to bring viable exclusives to the market with their three offerings in 2013. Clearly the buyer for K-Mart "gets it" and wants there to be something that will appeal to both kids and collectors on their shelves. If only the guy in the same role at Target had the same level of understanding....

Love the reveal of "the box". The photo of it stacked/engaged with the TLC cart really highlights how this was intended from the beginning. The details on the inside are good, but what is that tiny greebly piece that is separate from the scanner "gun"?
It's weird that they are including one new E-11 blaster in each set (one for the stormy, one for the officer), not complaining mind you, just an observation.

It comes out... whatever it is. They're just seemingly made up little tools unless Hasbro had a good clear shot of the inside to go off of. I know the sort of grid pattern thing you see on the toy is visible only slightly in the film. The little gun thing and the little greeblie, don't ever recall seeing any official images of those from LFL ever. If it's mostly just imagined from Hasbro it's impressive the detail.
It reminds me of the effort put into the recent GI Joe Lifeline figure's pack, kind of.

SDCC case shows what looks to be two of the same old Scanning crewman, one with repainted hair. Hmmm...I'm inclined to believe the leaked photos over display case protos, notice the photos had more paint on the bottom scan box. It would be nice if the original crewman was made a blonde for this release. As long as we get the new head.

The fact that it's TK-421 with the grapple hook sculpted on there is awesome.
I don't know who they have setting up the exclusives for Kmart, but that guy needs to be put in charge of all retail exclusives. People keep saying it, but it bears repeating - somehow Kmart has become the home of awesome, reasonably priced Star Wars exclusives. :o

Wow... This is what I wish the line was all about. :D This stuff makes me stupid giddy, but it's such a small detail.
I'm so glad they kept the scanner guts. To me, it made the set. It's marvelously detailed, and the paint really highlights that. In "pink" color, it loses something, haha.

These sets (now designated Imperial And Death Star) are up on Kmart.com - not available to order yet but you can sign up for an email alert when they are in stock. I can't imagine picking up any less that 3 or 4 of each set.
Now if they'd only produce Tantive sets with RFTs (with holsters), Imperial officers and stormtroopers and we'd be golden.

Glad these will be online. The Sears Grand I found last year's sets at appears to have gutted their toy section. Last time I went in there in July, there were empty shelves and overstock, no toys in sight. So I'm SOL for finding these in person.

I ordered off their site last year and it was fine. All the sets n ATST showed there and nobody who ordered off them seemed to report problems.
I think I got 3 ATST sets and they arrived perfect plus it was free shipping.
Ordering online is good for the people without Kmart stores.

I found the Catapult sets at K-Mart, but no Scanning Crews were present. Hopefully they won't be too far behind.

K-Mart is taking these off the site for any "option" to get them for now... They're not to be out till a reset is done, like last year, which probably isn't in the ballpark of being done. They're part of a large toy shipment which is the first of the Xmas rush.
They're currently seemingly removing most options from the site, so if you find them on a shelf at this point, chalk it up to the employees making a goof.
I got one set, so I consider myself very fortunate. No Scanner dudes yet. If things hold, these shouldn't be tough to get.

Yeah the catapult set I had several times and lost it. Then all local stores lost their stock, then back in stock todsy... Crazy. I think the scanner dudes are this way intentionally.

KMART Online sucks. I spent about 45 minutes this morning with Ewoks and Scanning Crew guys in my cart. Took me forever to register and get through their slow site. I got to the very end for confirmation and the Scanning Crew guy amount was invalid (I had 3 in the basket). Reduced it to just one and had to go through all the order processing forms again to find that it's now sold out. The Scanning would have shipped and the Ewoks would have to be picked up 45min away, so I just bagged the whole deal. Sucks because they were offering $10 off with a $75 purchase via member email, but I couldn't get that to work anyway. LOVE LOVE LOVE Exclusives. ::)

Well, it isn't me and my bad luck then. On Wednesday when the news broke, I checked my local store before I went to work, they were not in yet. Later, they must have listed as having them in stock and a buddy ordered a set or so on-line for in store pick up. I did the same, but could only order one unless I wanted to drive 50 miles to the next closest one that had more than one. By the end of the day, both of our orders were canceled.

Just a "heads-up", the heads are indeed swapable between the technician and the officer. And the officer's head is swappable with the Imperial Navy Commander.

Picked up these this morning at my local Kmart - great sets - love hearing that there are head-swapping capabilities between these three crew/officer figures and the INC.
If I see more of the set with TK-421, I am tempted to pick them up so I can get more top-boxes to go with the bottom piece that I have from the Legacy Collection release.

Neither is in stock as of this morning. That's about a dozen misses for me so far on these sets.

Picked up three more of the "Imperial Scanning Crew" 2-packs (the one with the top box, variant Scanning Crew member and TK-421) and one more of the "Death Star Scanning Crew" 2-pack this morning at another local Kmart.
This brings up my count of complete scanning crates to 6 (using the two bottom pieces I have from the Legacy Collection Release).
The head-swapping works great between the two Scanning Crew guys, the Imperial Officer and the Imperial Navy Commander.
So now I have a set of four Scanning Crewmen with each of the heads from those four source figures and a set of four Imperial Officers with each of the heads from the four source figures. (I also have two INCs with the original head and two with the head from the Imperial Officer in these sets)
When I put either of the Scanning Crew heads on the Imperial Officer body, I did swap hands between the two figures to match the skin tone of the hands with the heads.
All-in-all, I'm very pleased with these two exclusive packs - in my opinion, between these 2-packs and the Ewok catapult, Kmart wins the award for best exclusives of 2013.

There hasn't even been a whiff of these around here. I'm hoping they become available on-line, won't go too crazy on them, though. Two of each at least. Glad we can swap some heads.
It strikes me that someone could make a cast of the tops to help fill in all the ones we got from the Legacy series.

Time for that Officer sculpt's legs to get retired though. He's not just got awkward joints, but he's goofy tall too. They should use it to make a Peter Mayhew out of costume and then done.

TK-421 is absurdly cool just because he's finally a specific Stormtrooper. That inky dinky communicator accessory gives me hope that, someday, they'll do a Sandtrooper with a little ring of droid part, to recreate specifically the "Look Sir, Droids!" guy.
That communicator may be the smallest accessory ever in this line. It's REALLY tiny, yet snaps into its little holster thingie on his belt perfectly.
How lucky the group had one trooper nearby who had a grappling hook and a communicator, and that Luke took his armor. Truly, the force is mystical.

The website had one these sets listed as available starting Oct 31st, but wouldn't let me order, then changed the date to Nov 1st, then went back to the normal, temporarily unavailable. Weird.
Wondering if they'll show up in Sears.

It's a good possibility that these will show up at Sears stores. Especially since Sears seems to be doing the seasonal toy sections for the holidays as a regular thing now.

Last year Sears had these in their Toy sections in the Grand stores however Sears Grand have all removed their toy section this year. I don't recall reports of these being found in the seasonal toy set ups in regular Sears stores.
Jay, I couldn't get to my Garindan to compare but his and TVC Stormie Luke's communicators look twice as big as TK's does... Though theirs have much nicer (ie: anything) decoes than TKs.
The Boxs one little piece is almost as small but not quite.
I can't wait to get more. Last year these shipped into December.

I could swear I wrote a post two weeks ago that predicted that the two days I was out of town on a job, that the scanning sets would show up at my closest Kmart that I've been hitting every day. Well, I was right. Talked to the local Hasbro rep today and my local Kmart did indeed get one case in, and that's all they're getting. >:(
What's also funny, in a frustrating way, is that they only put up the shelf tag last week, so they made room for an item they won't be restocking.

Anyone know offhand the price adjustment window for Kmart? I bought the sets last Thursday (10/17) and can't recall if it's 14 days or less to get a price adjustment... would be nice to just get an adjustment instead of having to track down new sets again at the sale price...

Jeff, I think the adjustment window is only around a week or so. Your best bet might be to buy new sets on sale, and return them with your original receipts.

Just call ahead, Justin. Don't depend on the website to list 'in store/in stock'. I was doing that then found out some locals were finding them already and they hadn't been posted online. So I called around last night and got some set aside for me. Nice.

And THAT would require a K-Mart somewhere within driving distance. I had to drive to Northfield last time...ugh. Good tip though - Maybe I will give that a shot.

That's my thinking as well - I might TRY to go to my local Kmart with my receipts to see if they'll do an adjustment, but beyond that I'm not going to worry about it even though it would mean getting almost $50 back. :-X

I hit a couple stores yesterday and didn't find any Scanning Crews. The Ewok sets weren't overly plentiful, but they were available. I'm just glad the current sale lasts for about a month as opposed to just a week.

I took my receipts for both the Scanning Crew sets and the Ewok Catapults and I was able to get them to do a price adjustment and get back $4 on every item purchased. Relatively effortless...

I'd buy so many more of these if it wasn't such a crazy hassle. As it is, I have 4 pairs now (full price) and wouldn't have any if not for 3 different people snagging them for me.

Finally found them at retail...not that I'd been searching hard. Still no Ewok sets.
Painted hands on the officer... :( but at least he has the right colored ankle joints.

I'm shocked because the Ewok set has kinda done poorly here even on sale. It was slow to sell out of the gate in my neck of the woods and was out I'd say a full half month longer than the scanner schmucks.

I think the store ever put them out yet if they got them in.
The only other SW figure in the store, besides those scanning sets, is a vintage AOTC Obi-Wan.

Seconded. I keep getting $3 off $10 coupons too through my rewards and so I'm using those routinely now for extras for myself though. I got an extra Ewok set that way for myself and that was fun. I figure the sale ends before Thanksgiving... I'll probably buy what I am able to, especially with coupons, till that point.

I'm all for them never using this packaging again. Not seeing the figures you are buying is too frustrating.
Here's why. I buy the sets. One tech has sloppy messed up shoulder insignia. I have lots of the old tech, I can live with that. Black uniformed officer has a messed up looking right shoulder joint...flash and a rough surface. This irritates me a lot, more than sloppy paint (which does irritate me...I've passed up figures I never saw again because noticabley sloppy paint on a $10 figure is not acceptable).
So I buy that set again, cuz quality errors happen right? This time the officer has a similar left shoulder joint, flash and rough texture. I give up. Maybe if these make it to clearance I'll get a decent copy of the figure. Maybe I should box both of them up and exchange them and when they ask say "I JUST HAVE COLLECTOR OCD." :(

I have also experienced quite a few quality issues with the Scanning Crew figures, but none of the plastic flashing that you described. Most of my problems are paint related. I got quite a few technicians with black paint from the hat running down onto parts of the face and hair. Another significant issue I had, which affected fewer figures, was paint chipping on the hat. The officers and Stormies had some issues as well (sloppy face paint on the Stormies, sloppy hands on officers) but those flaws weren't as significant as the technicians.
The quality is really a shame too, since last year's sets as well as the Ewok Catapult seem to have had minimal issues all around. Hopefully Hasbro can either step up the quality or change to window packaging for any future releases.

These things are half the price of "real" TBS figures - why don't you just buy two sets to ensure you get a solid paint job and call it a day? You should be thankful you found these at all considering many of us have never even seen them at retail.

I really appreciate the sympathy. Action figure paint flaws are a tragic issue. :P
In all seriousness, I probably wouldn't be complaining about sloppy paint if quality issues weren't so prevalent in the Star Wars line this year. I expect the occasional stray mark or sloppy eye, it comes with the territory of mass-produced items. I get annoyed when eyes are painted on foreheads, flesh colored plastic shows on black hats, and white plastic has bits of red/pink dye mixed in. Even bargain-priced toys seem like crap when they look like Tunghori's factory rejects.

Wow. Calm down. Since you seem to have missed the point, I was calling attention to the fact that lots of us couldn't even find these in stores. If you don't like the paint aps, then return or exchange them, but maybe think twice about whining about it when others don't even have that option. And part of why these are so cheap is the packaging. You can get more figures for your dough out of the two packs than with TBS, so buy extra or swap for another set if you're worried about the paint being a smidge off. Or at least spend your extra cash on a 6pack to help settle your nerves, cranky.

Found a ton of these today at my KMart in Iowa, so hopefully they're getting out to everyone else. I just bought one of the Scanning Crew sets for now, but happy with what you get even at regular price.

Yeah the folding-stock blaster is weirdly cool, but at this stage I don't need more of it, haha. It won't fit in holsters, it's difficult to put a figure's trigger finger into it, and while a cool novelty, it's not something I need a buttload of.
The sets, by the way, are on sale this week...
The Scanner ones are like $1.60 off, and the Ewok set looked like it was $5 or so off, which is great, but it's not selling nearly as well (available online if you want it though!) as the others.
The Scanner sets have backed up here at this point... Not tremendously, but they're backed up for sure with the bottom piece/officer being the most numerous (big shock). The box goes pretty quick still here despite the volume of these things that hit. I have stores that go no less than TEN cases of these things in (4 each per case) and have blown through most till the last case(s). They were getting 2 cases at a time right up till the sale price ended.
Kinda neat seeing these seemingly outsell last year's sets, which were awesome, by what appears to be a good margin. Last year's sets backed up after the initial couple cases... This year's seemed to only back up after a long, long time.
I consider the Scanner sets (and the Ewok catapult too) to be the single best collector item of 2013... It's great army builders, great fodder, and that box is sweet with detail.

It's weird to hear different experiences. Last year's sets for me were very scarce which is why I was panicing this year. However, this year i'm seeing them stocked every other day.

Mine were getting stocked like that too, for a while, but they've slowed down now... they were selling through though till this last stock, now they're hitting a slower pace for sure and the bottom is sitting.
Last year's sets, I saw those on clearance... TONS of the Ewok set and some of the AT-ST Pilots too even. I cleaned up on those. I wish I'd bought a couple Ewok sets on clearance looking back now. This year's set, it seems as abundant as last year's, but sells steadily... I hit my one K-Mart almost daily, the other one once or twice a week, and I've watched the exclusives closely this year.
The Ewok set, really it started sitting almost immediately... Given what it is, I thought it was far more visually appealing but I guess the masses disagreed. :-\ Loads of Ewok sets here. They're also on a steeper sale price right now than the Scanner dudes.
Speaking of all this...
I wound up earning a ton of stuff at K-Mart this week... $50 gets you a $.30 off per gallon of gas coupon for BP stations, and this week gets you a $5 giftcard. These come about a lot, but I never see that deal advertised. It's good next week.
Anyway, I keep getting printed coupons with my receipt too, and I keep getting $3 off $10 in toys ones this week. I got 2 of the $5 cards too, so those with the coupon will net me basically a 2-pack for free I think.
I did some Christmas shopping earlier this week with one coupon I had, and again tonight using a different coupon I had. Each coupon I used on each trip were for $10 in Rewards points (if I spent x ammount on y type of items, like tonight's coupon was $35 on apparel). That means I netted $20 in free money there as well. The Reward Zone card at K-Mart, love 'em or hate 'em, has earned me so much free stuff this year it's insane. I fed pets for free quite often, got some toys with my points $, and that's not even getting into the cash off coupons I keep getting. Target and WM do nothing remotely this awesome. TRU has a half-assed system that clearly could be handled better if K-Mart's card is this useful.

Picked up my Scanner box set... Last one my store had. $.60 total, which was the tax I guess since Rewards points don't seem to cover tax if you pay the whole thing with points. I used a $3 off $10 coupon, 2 $5 giftcards earned last week, and I've got $60 in points chilling right now with only like $8 expiring in january and the rest not till late 2014.
This was a good day.
Plus someone left their gas coupon so I took it.

Got the Stormtrooper/Technician pack from Kmart yesterday. They were pretty even in numbers with the other pack. They also had two ewok catapult packs. I think they will be sitting for the next six months.

I'm going to try contacting Hasbro customer service to report the defect, but I don't think they're going to be able to offer up a replacement figure, since it's part of an exclusive set.

In theory these are on clearance, but there are none left near me. There probably are some box bottoms lingering somewhere though. They definitely did worse than the Box Top set did by about a mile.

Check aisles other than the AF aisle. A store near me has a clearance aisle in the toy department, and I found the Ewok catapult there. That rang up at $16.

That's with the additional 20% off. They're on clearance for $20 for now but in general they do additional 50% off pretty regularly as we get into Sept-Dec time.
