Wow. Really well done Hasbro.
-
YES!!!!
This is exactly how I wanted this figure done. I am very happy to see how this was executed.
-
Love the figure, hate the price. If it was $20 I might buy a dozen… at $30, I’m probably buying 2 or 4 and just not going as big on them.
-
I’m down for 5-6 anyway. I’m excited. I’ve been paying $30 for figures from designer lines and this is a pretty snazzy set so I’m ok on all that. It’s a lot beefier than a reg figure and the box is a plus.

Yeah, I'm in for at least 5.
-
My plan is to start with four at the $28 price since that is how many were in the Grogu kidnapping squad... I'll pick up more after that if Amazon eventually goes cheaper on them.

It'd be amazing if Amazon wanted to lower the price, and I'd buy extras then as well. But I think it's more likely that this sells out quickly as people buy 4, 6, 12 of them and is $50 on the secondary market before you know it.
-
I'll be happy with a small squad of these guys to stand behind my Moff Gideon.
-
I think the charging ports, as plain as they are, have convinced me to buy 2. Without those included I wasn't biting, so that's a win for them!
I wish they had included a flight stand so that there was a reason to plug the flame effects into the foot pegs as intended.

I was thinking the same thing re: a flight stand. For $30 each, it seems like it wouldn't have been a huge ask to get transparent stand. The figure itself looks absolutely fantastic though.
This guy was really high on my wishlist after Mandalorian Season 2. I would have originally wanted close to 20 of them for multiple displays. At $30 I think I'll just start with 4-5. This may be a bigger figure than the typical troop builder sets, but I'd love to see Hasbro put this out in a Darktrooper set, even if they had to put it out at a $10-12 higher price point.
-
I ordered two of these off of Amazon. The $60 price tag is making me sick to my stomach. The expected shipping date of March 3rd 2023 is easing that a bit, because that is plenty of time to cancel.
$60 for two 3 3/4" figures. I don't know folks, I may truly be done for good.
-
The $60 price tag is making me sick to my stomach.
It's a lot, I get it.
I'm still not at that quit point though. Like Jesse said earlier, I've been paying that for some of the other toy line/designer stuff (like $28 for 4" Boss Fight Zorro (https://boss-fight-studio-the-store.myshopify.com/products/hero-h-a-c-k-s-zorro); $32 for Dime Novel Legends Pistolero (https://chickenfriedtoys.com/product/pistoleiro/)) so I guess for what we're getting ($14 TVC Figure plus $14 in accessories - extra hands, 2x flame effects, power locker) I can deal with it for now.
I bought four... but I used Amazon reward points to cut the price in half so it's really not as bad.
-
I agree its painful, but if we get new figures with substantial accessories, I'm willing to shell out the cash. I'll buy a lot more of these than $14 repacks/repaints.
-
I'd prefer a $1X version with less accessories but with the accessories the price is fair. So much hyperbole
-
I ordered 14 because I want the option to buy a lot. I'm probably going to cancel a few later this year or right around when they start shipping early next year. But we'll see how rich I'm feeling in a few months when they start arriving.

Not so much hyperbole as my jumping off point. I bought the E-Web Stormtrooper Deluxe set because that gun is substantial, but I have passed on all the other boxed Deluxe sets. I bought the Mando &grogu Deluxe set because, at $18, it still felt like a fair deal. But not the Maldo Kreis set last year because the price jumped 8 bucks.
I like this design for the Darktrooper, and I appreciate it is 100% new tooling with added accessories. That is what got me to the order page in the first place.
I also appreciate the huge gulf between the niche toylines and their prices and what Hasbro does, and how that gap is narrowing.
I "finished" my collection in 2008, the last 14 years have been gravy to me. To pick and choose as I please. For $60 I want a little meat with my gravy.

Still available to pre-order at Amazon (https://amzn.to/3NLE5ZG).
Either Hasbro made a **** ton of these knowing the popularity or that $28 price tag is scaring off a lot of pre-orders (people holding off waiting for a lower price).

I do kind of hope it is the later, and it helps convince them to lower prices a bit, especially on the deluxe figures. (It won't, but one can hope.)
-
I ordered 3 from Dorkside and 3 from Amazon. I'd pick up more if they discounted it, but I feel like I'm doing my part with 6.
-
I went beyond what I had originally intended with these. I ordered 2 from Hasbro Pulse and 4 from Amazon.

Preorder Price Guarantee should mean that our existing preorders update automatically.
-
Nice!
-
I grabbed a couple more at this price via Jeff's link.
-
Looks like my existing pre-orders already adjusted to the new price.
-
Nice Dark Trooper surprise from Target. Limit of 2.

-
Nice. Thanks for the link!
-
Yeah that's great. I ordered a pair... am having my wife order a pair... That's the price these should be.
-
For whatever it's worth, it let me place multiple orders.

Based on Target's recent history with pre-orders, I wonder what the likelihood of these pre-orders being cancelled is? 50%? 75%? 100%?
-
That's how every preorder should go.

They never canceled my duplicate Chewbacca pre-orders... the only times I ever saw that it happen, it happened instantaneously.

Sorry, I meant in general, not just your specific case. Target hasn't had the best track record filling all pre-orders and if they are going to cancel orders, I'd guess they'd cancel the sale price ones over the regular price ones? Maybe just me being too hard on Target...
-
Ah right. That would be most uncool if it happened. Between this and the prototypes being available longer, I’m wondering if Target hasn’t upped their orders for product.
-
Amazon is getting in on the action - the Dark Trooper is now listed for $19.86! And existing preorders have been adjusted to reflect that price.
Star Wars The Vintage Collection Dark Trooper Toy, 3.75-Inch-Scale The Mandalorian Collectible Action Figure (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09JJMQL2J/ref=cm_sw_r_as_gl_api_gl_i_BWYCG4QZ2FBX5RB1VN28?linkCode=ml1&tag=johnavgoustak-20&fbclid=IwAR1Raag6Yyu8qai9_qsrDmbJfXrJlhS3cdX3mnBbiJDi7dcUqpFVwtTiKXg) - $19.86
-
Sweet. I’ve got a dozen preordered with each, and whoever doesn’t cancel them and ships first gets the business. At $20 each, I’m down for twelve.
-
It's a lot easier to deal with these at $20 each, I agree.

Awesome, thanks for the heads-up Nick! I had ordered 5 at the original pricepoint with Amazon and it looks like all my preorders have been adjusted. At a mere $20 I'm down to up that total to at least a dozen (Using the JD affiliate link of course :-* )
-
I was definitely relieved to see that Amazon adjusted that price automatically! Because OMG was there some serious sticker shock when these went up for preorder. What was the original price? $28?
-
Well, that's me ordering another two to add to my preorder of six. I'm such a whore.
-
I noticed my local Target has an empty peg set for these guys already on an endcap, (no figures in stock). I thought these weren’t due out until next year… Has anyone else seen this at Targets or seen these guys popping up yet?
-
I haven’t but I thought I saw a report about them showing up at ports or in systems as being out soon-ish.
-
I too saw an empty peg with a price tag on the “collector friendly” end cap at my local Target. I scanned the price tag and it showed nothing in stock at that store or any others in the area. Hopefully though it means these are arriving soon so the online preorders can ship.
-
For a while my Target preorder for these has been a pending charge on my check card. it just fell off this week. Anybody else notice something similar?
-
Nothing like that for me.
I did just go check my preorders list and I preordered 24 of these guys.
Whichever company ships first gets the sale... I definitely don't want more than 12.
-
I've got 8 Darktroopers on preorder right now. If Amazon comes through with theirs first, I'm going to cancel the 2 I ordered from Hasbro Pulse.
-

Nothing like that on my order.
-
Amazon is sending out messages that they are shipping the Darktrooper over the next week. And they have adjusted the price to $19.86 for the figure as well. A Festivus miracle!!
-
I got the update, too. I’m seriously considering shifting more of my preorders to Amazon because of the preorder price guarantee. With the current price situation it’s a more attractive option.
-
$19.86 is the exact price my Target preorders are except at Target I also get 5% off. So Amazon’s price is slightly worse. That said, for a buck a piece I’ll probably just keep the 12 Amazon is sending and cancel the Target preorders.
-
My Darktroopers arrived from Amazon yesterday. I've been holding off on opening these until I get some time where I can focus on them. In the note that I got from Amazon they made a point of showing how I saved $8 per figure with the preorder price guarantee. Considering I ordered 6 of these? That's not an insignificant amount of money!
-
I just got emails saying all mine are pushed back to a Jan 8-9 delivery now.
-
Likely the weather caused your delay.
My Amazon order was surprisingly pushed up to tomorrow. No sniff of the ones from Target, though.
-
Mine showed up today. Great figure!
-
I just got emails saying all mine are pushed back to a Jan 8-9 delivery now.
Mine were pushed out too, but only until Jan 3/4.
12/30 Update - Last night I got an email that 3 of 4 are arriving today via UPS and the 4th is arriving on Saturday. Weird.
-
After all these delivery estimate emails, all 12 have shipped and are supposed to get here Monday...
-
I have yet to get emails, but my tracking is now 2 days late. Mine were supposed to arrive yesterday and were apparently on the delivery truck but keep getting delayed. (We did get 10" of snow in Denver starting Wednesday evening though.)
-
Got these today. I don’t quite know what I expected but at an MSRP of $27 or whatever, I guess I expected more.
The figure is okay I guess… the rack could use a floor with some foot pegs… I have a hard time getting him to hold the blaster without it falling out. Those little tubes that stick out of the back wall don’t seem to work the way the instructions suggest they’re meant to… and even its not, the Trooper still feel undersized to me.
-
I have yet to open any of my 4 (or even check out the one included in The Rescue box set), but I have seen a couple bad reviews similar to what Rob just said - gummi plastic, won't hold the weapon, underwhelming size/weight, alcove needs a floor, etc.
Maybe I don't need 4-5 of these afterall... I might just keep two - 1 from The Rescue and 1 of the deluxe ones - and send the other 3 deluxe sets I got back to Amazon. :-\
-
I've opened two of mine so far. I think it's a reasonably good figure. I have not had issues with them holding the blaster. I like the way the charging lockers interconnect to one another, and it helps with the whole world building concept.
Criticisms?
-I get the sense that they might be slightly undersized. And the head and hands seem like they should be a little bit larger.
-The power cables don't seem to connect anywhere on the body of the Dark Trooper
-The exhaust jets are all well and good. But Hasbro still doesn't have any kind of a flight stand on the market that's well suited for 3.75" figures. They do have them for 6" figures on Hasbro Pulse, but they seem oversized for the 1:18 scale.
-
For me it's not that it can't hold the gun, it's that it keeps dropping it when I try to put him in the rack. It took some work, but I did get them all open and set up today. Going to have to rearrange some things to get them onto the shelves this weekend:

Interesting comments on the Darktroopers feeling light. I always feel like TBS version is too light for what it represents. TVC version does not feel that way though. Looking at the gif and still shots here - https://www.fanpop.com/clubs/the-mandalorian/images/43703796/title/din-vs-dark-trooper-mandalorian-chapter-16-rescue-fanart - I think the figure may just be a tad shorter than it should be but nothing to egregious. It does have an overall nice sculpt and good paint job. Worth the original asking price? No way. Worth the reduced price, in this day and age yes.
-
Yikes, I'm going to cancel my darktroopers and see what happens. I don't really care about the wall pods. Maybe these will be rereleased on the standard card and or get a second run with fixes for the issues.
