Other Toy Lines / Re: MOTU
« on: August 17, 2007, 04:34 PM »
Does anyone here have the Eternia playset? I'm thinking of trying to get one of these but I want to know what the typical problems are with the playset and how well it holds up. I see a few on ebay from time to time and I see parts all the time but before I go working on putting together one of these massive playsets I want to get an idea of what I'm getting myself into. I'd have started a new thread but I figured this would be good enough to cover vintage MOTU instead of putting it into the New MOTU thread.

Anybody collect these? I was going through some stuff recently and came across an old mini comic from these and got to thinking about collecting them. Of course all the ones I had as a kid are long gone. I haven't really seen any at shows and the line seems cheap enough for a line from 84. I just picked up a boxed base for $10 and was thinking of working on picking up the figures now. Just curious if anyone knew which items may be near impossible to get before I get too far into this line. I didn't really think these were all that great when they originally came out but for something different, vintage and affordable I thought I might start on these.

Believe it or not only 31 codes. But that was over a month ago. Thanks for the info! Optimus just doesn't look right with the short stacks. Don't get me wrong, it's still a great toy and it's not really that noticeable, but sitting next to my GI it just seems out of place with the shorter stacks.

I almost forgot to mention this, the pepsi primes coming from Mountain Dew might have two pieces of tape on one end. It looks like at one point a bunch of these were assembled and they forgot something so they had to slice the tape, insert whatever it was, then reseal it. I mention this because both of them are like this and the ones coming from hasbro don't have two tape pieces on either end. Both of the ones I got shipped seperately too. I've opened one and there's nothing missing. Just thought I'd share for those who might get one of these of ebay and think they got jacked because one end appears to have been opened. It may not have been. Just ask if the one you are bidding on is one of the mountain dew ones and ask they send you the 3"x4" congratulation card that comes with it. Of course I'm sure most of you either got one at BOTCON, a friend who went or off HTS when they were available but I thought I'd mention this just incase. My guess is at one point they forgot to insert the sticker sheet or instructions and had to rework a bunch of these. Or they had to remove something. Either way it shouldn't be something to be too alarmed about.

I got home today and it looks like typing in all those Transform your summer codes might finally be paing off. Sitting in my mailbox today were 2 of the pepsi primes from the contest.  ;D

Anyone know where I can order a set of long stacks for it?

That's pretty much what it was. I've been pretty busy and I was just happy to get one so I posted. I didn't mean anything by my reply to Ruiner either, I was just being goofy. No harm, no foul eh ruiner?

What kills me about these "exclusives" is that they really aren't. The appear at the con/show they were supposed to then end up on a reseller website either HTS or SWS and on occasion even a 3rd party. Why doesn't hasbro just list the damn thing for preorder on their site and be done with it by allowing anyone and everyone a chance to order. I'm going to bet they go back into production on some of these anyway so why all the hassel? If it's going to be relisted later then they must be making more and if they are continuing to make more why not just allow preorders. It all seems pretty stupid to me since they'd make more and the scalpers would be left holding the bag.

Any sightings of W4 yet?  Its been a real lull around Minneapolis the last month.   :-\

I saw on New Forces home page that hasbro has emailed them that various new waves including UGH are in transit to them now and could be shipping out next week. This may mean a glut of waves hitting at once so expect to feel it in your wallet. So if they don't start showing this weekend maybe next week/weekend we could start seeing them.

The cassette drawer is flush with the body on the original and is only 1 tape deep. The reissue sticks out from the body and it can hold both cassettes.

I haven't really been picking up much since Hasbro took over the license. However, I did manage to purchase a small collection of early/mid 90's toy biz x-men/x-men x-force figures over the weekend. Not that I want to start collecting that scale but they were just too cheap to resist.

Picked up 1 each of the current VTSC run along with 4 extra snowtroopers on clearance at Target. I also managed to snag 2 more mcchewies at TRU. A buddy of mine snagged a mcfett and a mctrooper on Saturday at a different TRU so I had to try my luck. The thing is that I think they were actually holding these in the back. The guy asked him what he was looking for and that he'd check the back and came back with everything he asked for. I'm wondering if it was just a fluke or if they are trying to keep people from hoarding them.

I saw these Saturday at Target on clearance and managed to snag 5 snowtroopers and 1 each of the remaining figs. I told myself after the last run that I wasn't going to pick this up first thing and wait for a clearance. I kept thinking I'd run into a set on clearance and sure enough I did.

I've not opened it yet because it's so big I have no where to put it on display. All things considered though this thing looks pretty bad a**. Based on the size of this thing though it got me to thinking what Hasbro could put out and just aren't. This thing is made by a lesser known company and overall really isn't that expensive for what it is. It even has electronics and other features that in the right environment could keep a kid or group of kids occupied all day long. I'm dying to open it though, the box may be huge but that's no real indicator of what's inside. I'm expecting it to still be pretty cool though. If I can get around to it maybe I'll take some pics of it next to a Millenium Falcon or AT-AT (or both) for size comparison.

I've not been really interested in this line but I've wanted that Black Pearl ship playset since it came out for the last movie. It's just a bit pricey at $45-$65 depending on the store. Then I ran into the odd Wal-mart that had them at $24.97. I couldn't pass that up but why does one Wal-mart discount so heavy and others don't? It's just odd to me.
