The rumors of the return of a commtech style chip reader are apparently true.
The Last Jedi packaging products revealed at SDCC have a "Force Link" call out ("Wear Force Link to activate sounds") on them. Look for more details from Hasbro soon...

I'm only surprised it took them this long to revisit this concept. From Skylanders to Amibo etc, this tech is smaller and cheaper than it was. Kids will love this.

I liked the old commtech chips just because they made decent figure stands.
I bet the new version will do well with kids.

Kinda curious, just from a customizing pov, how intrusive, if at all, the commtech 2.0 is going to be? I'm hoping not at all, but part of me feels like there is going to be something frustrating about a figure with a chip inside it when I go to simply dismantle it.

Hopefully, this time they'll use actual dialogue from the movie/actors.

and that it will sound like them too. Last time it sounded like sample speech being played from a Vic-20.

IIRC, the Episode 1 Comm Tech were pretty bad, but the POTF2 Comm Tech figures sounded pretty decent. Lesson learned back then? Possibly. [/Obi-Wanvoice]

I just wish we had figure stands again.

I got wind of this via Yakface, which led to THIS INSTAGRAM POST (https://www.instagram.com/p/BYZjFyQn0s5/?taken-by=toyshiz). It's a Hasbro manufacturer coupon for $10 off of the Force Link Starter kit, and can be found on select Kellog's Cereal boxes.
I wonder if the coupon will be good for the Force Link Gauntlet with Kylo Ren, or if there might be a separate set that doesn't include the figure?

Is the Kylo Ren that comes with this all new?

I decided to pick up a Force Link device as, if anything, I wanted to see my TIE Silencer ship light up. It took a few minutes to get used to how it works, but the device is rather fun! You have to hold it close to the figure and it will first make a beeping sound followed by the figure's dialogue or a ship's sound effects. All the action figures seem to have 1-2 lines of dialogue and one can make somewhat funny conversations between the figures. The Force Link Device can work through the package on a figure, so one doesn't need to open a figure to hear its dialogue. I think I prefer my lights and sounds on a ship to be independent from a remote system, though it is rather neat for the figures and adds a unique element to them.

Has anyone been able to track down the $10 off coupon? I tried looking at one grocery store and didn't see any Kellog's boxes that might have had one.
There also seems to be some competitive pricing on the Gauntlet starter kit. On FF2 WalMart had these for $24.97. Other retailers had it for $29.99. And since then I've seen it get marked down at both Target and Amazon to $24.99

I was looking for this coupon too and couldn't find it at my local grocery store.

It does beg the question though: how much is the cereal going to cost you in order to get a $10 off coupon?

It sounds like it's only been found on select General Mills cereal boxes at Walmart so far...
