Red metallic? Is it a Christmas ornament?
I'm up for one and will need help, unless Target roams north really quickly.
I am almost positive that it will be a promo item tied into April 2nd to get you to go to Target instead of TRU/Wal-Mart. It should end up being just like the TRU Silver Figures were where you buy $x.xx amount of product and you get one for free.
Jeff
At the moment, all signs point to a price drop back to $5.99 for the Ep3 figures...
When you do a DPCI look-up on the Ep3 figures in Target system, they show a $5.99 price as well as that being listed at $5.99 in the early Toy Fair materials being distributed this week. I think it's safe to say that the $7 thing is temporary... unfortuntaely we won't for sure until the day of most likely.
Jeff
If they're $5.99 at Target that's where I'll likely go, or TRU. WM will be a madhouse... Unless I don't feel like driving the distance, I'll probably make for another store.
I did hear that Target was going to have 'something special' planned for their RotS customers (April 2nd only) I suppose that could be this. :)
8)
These days, I seem to try to avoid Wal-Mart if I can. More and more of their stores are **** holes that I can't stand to be in. I've only ever been in one Target, but it impressed me. Was this just a fluke, or do others feel this way too?
Basically the Canadian toy shopping experience roughly equates to buy it when you see it, cuz you ain't gonna see it again ::)
Holo Yoda is neat...Red Vader to me is...lame ::)
What's a GWP, Pete? Is that "Giveaway With Purchase"?
If so, that'd be my guess. I think that's what Jeff was already told on the Vader, at least, so I'd guess the TRU Yoda might be a similar deal. Interesting little battle of the exclusives, if that's the case.
Not like everybody's going to pass one store over in favor of the other now, obviously. I'm guessing most people are just going to go to both stores at some point that day/night, and just nab 'em both. Definitely a decent attempt to draw the buyers in for their more expensive figures at those places.
So we'll be buying as much as we can at the cheaper WM prices, and then spending an additional $20 on whatever at both TRU and Target to get their GWPs. Sounds like a plan... 8)
I'd rather see a film accurate Yoda sitting in the chair too, but I think this is still pretty cool.
:P
I believe Jeff said that Vader was going to be a promo like buy so much stuff on April 2nd and get a free Red Metal vader
(http://www.mousedroid.com/news/image/targetvader.jpg)
A POTF2 one at that ::)
In fact, what's the point of even taking that exclusive if it's only 36 per store.
This kind of tactics makes me so angry! I'm tempted to only go to Target for the Vader and immediately leave to head to another store.
I'd guess this would pretty much kill my chances of owning one, because I am definitely not hitting ebay for that. Here ends my chrome collection. :-\
This kind of tactics makes me so angry! I'm tempted to only go to Target for the Vader and immediately leave to head to another store.
Let me get this straight:
-I get to wake up at 6:30 on a Saturday morning to get a ticket?
Not to mention, "promotions" like this always seem to have about a million different snaffus. Anything and everything will go wrong with this (as with the Holo Yoda probably). From store employees not having a clue as to what the hell you're talking about, to the stores not being able to even find the figures, to the registers not being able to ring up the figures or just ringing them up completely wrong, to cases full of damaged cards, to cases that have already been pillaged by the employees and their friends, etc, etc, etc...
I think that's gonna be my plan. Actually, if they do strictly limit it to 1 per person, then I'm gonna have to head straight to another Target to get my damned opener Vader too. >:(
And it's suggested I stand in line for an hour and a half prior to opening? After I was likely up 'til 3am that same night racing around for Midnight Madness? Bastards.
I better shut up now, 'cause I'm getting a serious headache just thinking about it. I'm always up for a good collecting challenge, but be careful how far you want to push me... :-X
Matt, if I get an extra Vader it's yours.
The good thing for you guys is Target's are a dime a dozen out there in Cali, right? I always thought they were anyway...
Out in Pitt, they're still sporatic. There's 5 I can think of off the top of my head, but they're all spaced apart quite a bit, and none are "close" to me. 45 minutes at best, and some a bit more than that.
I'm hoping the 5 have people spread out enough though... I figure I can hit 2 of them in relative speed, incase. I want the Vader but part of me doesn't want to deal with this crap either... That I can skip these and not feel bad about not having a complete chrome set since it's not on the same cardback as all the others.
And people refer to Walmart as the "Evil Empire"!
The coupons should be going out in the mail VERY soon, they are timed to be in your mail box sometime next week so they arrive approx 1 week prior to April 2nd.
Jeff
On a side note...wasn't sure if this deserved its own thread yet or not, since it is just a rumor at this point, but Rebelscum mentions in this article (http://www.rebelscum.com/article.asp?i=90570) that a rumor is going around that an exclusive that Wal-Mart might have on 4/2 could be a sort of "Early Bird" set reminiscent of the vintage days. No further details outside of that, so take it with a grain of salt, but interesting news I thought anyways.
Security guards. For an action figure.
Excuse me for just a moment...
WHAT THE ****?
First it was waiting in line to get a figure, and now apparently you have to run a picket line to get one of these figures. Are they going to have policemen in riot gear standing by with water hoses and rubber bullets in case they run out of figures? ::)
I can't wait until April 3rd when this headache melee is over.
Yeah, I totally agree. All of the exclusives, all hitting on the same day, are starting to really kill my enthusiasm for the figure release. I just want it to be over and done with now. There's simply no joy in rushing around trying to chace them down.
The whole stategy just became a lot more complex trying to work in a Walmart stop ASAP as well. The only hope is that the 29.99 price of whatever the thing turns out to be stops a lot of people from hoarding them all up.
And she shouldn't, she's letting me dump probably a grand to go to E3.
Ouch, got me there.
No really, lately I've been so bitchy/grumpy, I'm buying up the whole damn theater so I don't have to listen to anyone talk, hear a cell phone ring or some jackass rattle licorice wrappers :P
I wouldn't buy ONE seat for Punisher, let alone an entire theater's worth.
I am actually considering doing this as well as a "Thank you" to clients (and so I can write the thing off). According to the manager, it is cheaper if I do it during the day and not on opening day, I just don't know if anybody would come on day 2.
Jared - I agree with you 100% - my enthusiasm for this is really dwindling. For me it's becoming more of a CHORE than it is the "Fun of collecting" - thank god this is the final movie year 'cause I don't think I could handle something WORSE than this in three years!
It's only a chore if you make it one.
Sorry, but as I see it, completists don't have a leg to stand on when complaining about how hard it is to find particular items or exclusives--particularly if you want all the card variations and/or both openers and carded items. When you decide to be a completist, you know what you're getting into, and have pre-committed to jumping through whatever hoops are necessary.
If you don't think it's worth the effort for this or any other figure, skip it and move on.
Just my 2 cents.
Target sure is going to a lot of effort to try to make sure the Vader is handed out 1 per person, which is at least kinda nice that not 1-2 groups can hoard them all right off the bat.
DO NOT TAUNT LAVA REFLECTION DARTH VADER
Look at the ebay auction (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=2476&item=5965880546&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW) the pics came from... already over 100.00 bucks. ::)
Can anyone confirm if the coupon showed up in the Target weekly ad?
Yeah - my girlfriend is telling me that she's pretty sure that most papers did their ads on Friday, but I don't know anything about it...
Anyone get Friday's paper and notice a large amount of ads? If not, there's a good chance I'd think that there will be more ads later in the week...
I'm in the mood to produce some melodrama and fire it their way.
(I am so gonna ******* overuse that line ;D)
The trick for everyone will be getting in line before everyone else. I just don't know how many people would line up at my Target for this item? It's a Saturday though I can see plenty of people beating me to it.
I may just end up saying screw it. I know I won't be on Ebay buying it. Not that I would win an auction anyway with them going up to $100. It's $12.99 or nothing for me.
There's a thread over on RS where a guy in Louisiana found 12 hanging from the pegs at his local Target - he has pictures of the two he bought too...
Rebelscum Thread... (http://threads.rebelscum.com/showflat.php?Cat=&Number=1102389&page=0&view=collapsed&sb=5&o=&fpart=1#1102389)
Just great... >:(
Is anyone curious how the math works for this ****? How many Target stores are there in the US? 1000? 2000? If so, what's the math work out to here?
What are the chances that this sucker will show up at the Fanclub later on? Remember the original Toyfair Vader? Hasbro hopefully will rethink this after the release.
Came with a $1 off EVERY figure you buy on 4/2 coupon. Probably old news, but I think I'll go to Target on 4/2.
I cant believe that there are 55 of them on ebay.

Fella over at RS is saying the ROTS figures are going on sale (http://threads.rebelscum.com/showflat.php?Cat=&Number=1102843&page=0&view=collapsed&sb=5&o=186&fpart=2#Post11032181102843) for $4.99 the very next day, for the rest of the week. Kinda renders the coupon pointless, other than the obvious issue of timing for the "impatient" folks that need to have everything on 4/2 (like me :P)
It will help me to not feel like I'm in such a rush to get everything at Target on that first day now though, so that's somewhat relieving to know at least...
That's nice of them in a way, but it makes the coupon sorta redundant.
It works out similar to that if you manage to convince Walmart to take the Target Coupon... It'd be $4.24 - which is what I plan on trying.
As well, I know I won't have any luck finding clones, or the elusive regular DV - I am totally blown away by the fact that there is only ONE Darth Vader in the entire 3 3/4 ROTS line!!!
He is the focal point of this movie and the entire marketing campaign revolves around him - won't somebody please think of the children!!
Not to brag, but I was lucky enough to have a forum member sell me one of his that he found early for cost.
Yeah, this is another one of those case (like TF Vader) where the packaging is what really sells me on this figure.
I love the re-use of the vOTC clamshell idea as well as the backer card that makes the figure less "rounded".
I plan on keeping this guy carded and put up on the wall, if I don't snag a second for the loose collection, that is fine with me. I probably wouldn't open it anyway.
Jeff
All the Targets are opening at 8am that next morning, Daniel. They're not doing the "Midnight Madness" like TRU and WM. Folks are lining up early in the morning for tickets they'll be handing out for however many Lava Vaders they have on hand.
The group I'm heading out with is just going to be pulling an all nighter, so once we're done with the first two stores, we'll roll by a couple Targets to see if lines are developing, and judge when we're going to join in accordingly. I'd guess we'll be in the Target line by 6am at the latest though.
My understanding is that Target plans to hand out the tickets for the Lava Vader at 6:30, then open at 8.
Good luck! :)
To say I'm ashamed of some people right now is an understatement.
Target had 0 Chewie's, But they had at least 1 Tarful... I gave the little boy the one I'd nabbed and asked if he'd like him instead because I knew Chewbacca was a lost cause for him at this store. His eyes lit up and he went nuts. He loved it. His mom was appreciative and thanked me, which I told her we'd all have a chance at a Tarful in a month so he deserved his now... Yeah, I'm gloating, but it made me feel good today that a little guy was going ape**** over a wookiee figure.
I saw labelled pegs at Target, so I'm assuming they sold them on the pegs. Sold out, of course, but its okay since I didn't want one anyway.
I just thought it was actually funny... Didn't want a pat on the back though.

Just curious, how long were they available for?

If anyone needs a Target Vader, just drop me a pm. They had a ton when I went back to Target for my price adjustment and I bought extra's just in case.
This is for the Target Exclusive Lava Darth Vader It is in hand and ready to ship. I am hoping to help fund my Celebration trip. As a Bonus for using the Buy It Now option and for helping me fund part of my trip, you will recieve the Celebration III Darth Vader after I return from the Celebration.
Ok, it's a little late, but what with being in Canada and all, it took a while. Now, before you go on, as a big shock, I'm going to complain as a bit of a novelty for a geek board.
DBK was kind enough to pick one of these up for me to trade it to me. I was looking forward to getting it and we worked a fair deal and Matt packed it well and shipped it quick, so none of my gripe is with him.
I opened up the box and my first reaction was...huh :-\
It's kind of nifty in the package and all upon first glance. Upon second glance it was more like huh. That's about all I could muster. Matt told me ahead of time that the outer plastic wasn't mint and I'd heard other reports too. It wasn't in horrible shape, but I pressed out a pushed in section and I can't believe how ****** the case is. It's really soft, crappy plastic for a "protective" ::) case.
The Vader itself is I guess as should have been expected given it is a crappy old POTF2 Vader, but I actually liked that figure, both as the original (the first SW toy I ever owned) and the TFV version looked pretty nice too. But this one, um, sucks ****. Is that the right way to put it? I dunno, maybe it's cuz I have to go to the dentist today. I'm thrilled to have it and lame ass loser that I am, I'm getting another from Beth, but geez, I guess I was expecting more.
