Title: New Ultra Clone shots at JD.com!
Post by: Jesse James on October 30, 2003, 11:55 PM
For those who want to see how an action figure SHOULD be done, head right on over to www.GalacticHunter.com right now and check out the prototype shots of the Ultra Articulated Clone.

The poses simply rock...

This guy's got ball/socket joints everywhere. :)

BTW, here's the driect LINK right here (http://www.galactichunter.com/absolutenm/templates/full_article_template_1.asp?articleid=1919&zoneid=2) for your viewing/reading pleasure.

Thoughts?

Haha, j/k Scott.   ;D

I will hunt for these figures like Sauron hunts for the One Ring. :o :o

Well, I won't send out riders in black, but I will buy every single one of these that I can find. Why the hell didn't we get this in April 2002???

This is easily the best figure Hasbro has come up with for AOTC, as well as the best army builder I've ever seen. Now lets hope we get some ranks released in the future too. I still need a yellow clone.

These are going to go fast, and this whole situation reminds me of the CommTECH Stormtrooper situation where the pegs were filled with crap and the Stormies couldn't get out in large numbers

Hopefully these come in Four Packs

Our hope is that Hasbro has the foresight to maybe ship this bad boy in a solid case of its own.

Or perhaps mixed with ARC troopers?  Like an 8:4 ratio of clones to red arcs, or 10:2 of the same order?

Seeing this along with the carded Hoth Rebel Soldier makes me scratch my head.  I know the Hoth Soldier is a relic from a few years ago - in more ways than one - but wow.  Hasbro should treat every army builder this well.

This thing is beautiful!  Absolutely perfect.  Now my question is, why the hell did it take Hasbro EIGHT damned years to finally figure this out?!  It should be like this for all the figures, or at the very least, all the army building figures.  Our static poses could (should) be a thing of the past!  By the way, when you say "Ultra Clone" Jesse, you don't mean Ultra as in the new deluxe line do you?  Just as in it's got ultra many points of articulation, right?  Hopefully that's the case, because I definitely don't want to be paying $10 a pop for these, regardless of how nice they are.

Very nice!

This has to be the coolest figure made in a LONG time!  I will most definitely be buying a lot of them for my armies.  I even like the figure just as it is (as a prototype).

I'm really hoping that these are not going to be packed 1x or 2x per case of 12 figures.  Hasbro has to know that full cases of these things would disappear in a heartbeat.  I also think that they should be offered like the army building 4 packs of RFTs and Stormies at the Fan Club.  It'd be so much easier to just order 5 packs that way then to try to hunt down a significant quantity of these at retail.

How many of these will Hasbro sell?  As many as they produce.

This figure really looks great, I can't wait to get several if we are able to find them.  I agree, I think it would be fairly easy to get a Stormtrooper out of these.  Heck, do some more of these "super articulated" jobbies for some of the other characters too while you're at it Hasbro :).

There is a case coming probably beginning of December with

3x Saesee Tiin
3x Kit Fisto
3x Clone Trooper
1x
1x
1x

The 1x are either Mace, Asajj, Obi or Durge...they will probably rotate those.

They should have done

3x Kit
3x Saesee
6x Clone

And left the Wave 2 stuff out of this ::)

Most pre-orders from on-line stores list the case pack as:
2x Obi-Wan
1x Durge
as the last three slots.

I agree though that they should have done it differently, but I'd like to see:

2x Tiin
2x Fisto
8x Clone Trooper

I gotta have at least a DOZEN of these super-articulated Clones.

Nice, neutral, and GOOD.

EE had 1x Mace 1x Durge 1x Obi

I'm thinking there are slight variations in the case packs...

Hint to FC...get these as 4 packs and get them soon!

These look better and better. Much happiness. Hasbro, at the very least, needs to make complete clone casepacks available for retailers/online retailers to order. I'd be all over a case or two.

I think this figure is like a 10 from the waist up and a 7 from the waist down.  They look kinda meaty below the waist.  Now that I see the new pics I give the figure about 8.5-9 out of 10; whereas before I had immediately elevated it to Coleman Trebor/Ephant Mon status.

Just picked up a couple of these bad boys at an Oklahoma City Wal-Mart--first new Star Wars figures I've bought since January, actually.  Just now opened one up, and I haven't had a chance to really "play" with it yet, but it really is a neat little figure.  It's articulated everywhere it should be articulated, and although the cardback says it has 14 points, I consider it to have 18 points, since both the elbows and the knees have both the swivel and the "back and forth" (for lack of a better term) articulation ('course, I also refer to the POTF coins as "medallions", and not "coins").   :P

The thighs look just fine to me.

No complaints at all, here--other than that this figure kicks the crap out of the CommTech Stormtrooper.  After this, we really need to see a Stormtrooper done up in the same style, in the next year or two.

I just order two of them from ohmygodcheapfiguresonline.com.  I would like to get about 15-20 of them altogether.  They look very, very cool.  But I don't need over 100 of them like I have with the Commtech Stormtrooper.

Definately about damn time we get stormtroopers in the same fashion.

Looking at the various pictures of this super articulated clone online, and today reading the review posted over at GH, this figure really looks amazing.  The combination of likeness and articulation has to make this one of the best Star Wars figures ever made.  It can be a neutral figure, but at the same time is capable of a number of poses.  Plus, it sounds like it has all the articulation necessary (let's face it, we're probably not getting articulated fingers, toes, etc. like the Marvel Legends figures...at this scale).  It would be nice if all Star Wars figures could be made in this fashion, particularly the main characters and army builders.  It might be a little more difficult to hide the articulation as well on figures like Han, Luke, Vader, etc....but it would be nice.  Hopefully we can at least get a Stormtrooper done in this fashion...and while they're at it, they might as well use that body to make a new Stormtrooper Han and Luke :).

I just cracked mine open (3 came in the case I got from EE).

Oh. My. God.

This is the best Star Wars figure Hasbro has done this year. Or perhaps in any year. It's as if, after years of us complaining, on every board, that there should be one, comprehensive, super-articulated army-builder figure, Hasbro took all those comments and summed them up in one answer. This figure kicks serious ass.

As soon as I can find my USB cable for my camera, I'll load a couple of my poses. There's a million different poses for these guys. Best of all, it looks like they can be posed neutral with the rifle vertical against the shoulder at attention, like the bootleg clones.

We're going to need cases and cases of these things, guys. I'm so happy! :D Congrats, Hasbro. Now please do the exact same design for the Stormies and Bikers Scouts, and we'll be in heaven.

(I now forgive Hasbro for Saga R2 on a string, the most wretched turd ever put into plastic).

I scored another 5 yesterday at a Target in south of me, so I've opened 6 so far. :) Finally found my camera cable, too...  so here's some pretty aweful quality shots:

Just how poseable are they?:

Group shot:

And with a few 3-pack versions interspersed:

I put a lot of my Clone army into storage when I moved. Figures, as now I want to set up a diarama with the new guys in there. Target really seems to be getting the CW Wave 3 in bulk around these parts, judging by my big run yesterday. Now's the time to hunt for these! They're too cool!  8)

If you have the imagination of a rock maybe.

I have easily posed mine into 25 different poses including many group shots where all 5 of my clones are in a differnt poses (nothing as fancy as SilverZed3 though :) ).

This really is the best figure ever made in this scale.  Anyone who can only get three poses out of it just isn't trying hard enough!

Jeff

ps.
The lack of peg holes doen NOT bother me!  If you can't get this guy to stand, you're just not trying.  Also, the lack of holes looks cooler on those kneeling/laying poses (wher you can see the bottom of the foot).  Also, I'd MUCH rather have the fancy ankle joint (the reason there is no peg hole)  that the peg hole!

It's still the only real point of criticism I can come up with for this figure, aside from including a rifle. Totally agree though, that it does not prevent many poses as you'd think it would. Given the choice of the articulation or the peghole, Hasbro made the right decision. There's always Stick-Tac that can be used instead. :)

Those figures look so sweet!  People have been complaining about their feet not having holes in the bottom of them, but they sure do look like they stand pretty well (even with all the different poses you did with them).

Very cool!

They're definitely hitting.  Picked up two of 'em today.  Boy, they're real nice.  My only gripes are:

- the fact that the CT doesn't have pegholes under his feet
- the fact that the CT doesn't have a ball socket in the inner thigh/hip area
- the fact that he didn't come with a rifle

Oh yeah, and his thighs still look a bit chubby.  Other than that, the figure is perfect.   :P
Title: Re: New Ultra Clone shots at JD.com!
Post by: Jesse James on December 12, 2003, 03:36 AM
Damn, you guys are lucky!

I haven't found ONE yet, and I'm really into having like 100+ of some army builders (these bad boys included).  I liked Forceguy's point about the hips not being ball/socket.

Maybe if we get a super articulated Scouttrooper someday, he'll have the ball/socket thigh/hip joint so he can ride a bike AND stand off of it?

Now that would be impressive...  Not that this clone isn't, but FG had the same idea I did that it's indeed not a "perfect" figure still, and that extra ball joint at the hips would go a LONG way on this guy as well as almost any other figure.
Title: Re: New Ultra Clone shots at JD.com!
Post by: Mister Skeezler on December 12, 2003, 10:23 AM
I really hope Hasbro either starts shipping these in solid cases or offers the 4-packs like we got with the CT Stormtroopers, Sandtroopers, RFT's, etc.
Title: Re: New Ultra Clone shots at JD.com!
Post by: Scott on December 12, 2003, 10:57 AM
As much as I love this figure I am wondering how practical it would be to introduce this to the human characters w/out armor

The armor hides the joints perfectly and the execution is wonderful, but how would ball knees and elbows look on Luke or Han.  Shoulders and ankles work pretty well...curious
Title: Re: New Ultra Clone shots at JD.com!
Post by: Mister Skeezler on December 12, 2003, 11:05 AM
Bespin Luke looks pretty good, no?

I really think it depends on the skill of the sculptor. Also, I don't think it would work on figures like Slave Leia, where there's no folds in clothes to hide the articulation. It would work on Vader though...oh yes...it would...  ;D
Title: Re: New Ultra Clone shots at JD.com!
Post by: Scott on December 12, 2003, 11:21 AM
Yeah you're right Ed, forgot about him.  I agree that the clothing makes or breaks the figure and how well the joint can be hid.  These Clonies are perfect (as are all Imperial Troops)

That is a really good idea LtS....I hope this type of figure (SA Clone) is explored more in the future.  The articulation could obviously be used on Biker Scouts, Stormtroopers, Snowtroopers, etc.  I think a super articulated Vader is a version none of us would turn down.  It would be nice to see if it could be used on "human" figures like Luke and Han....it probably depends on the "outfit" they are in.  Good call with the Vader though.:)
Title: Re: New Ultra Clone shots at JD.com!
Post by: Mister Skeezler on December 12, 2003, 11:52 AM
You're absolutely right, Mosnab. And after Hasbro created SA Stormies, Scouts, Imperial Guards (with soft goods robes), Sandtroopers, RFTs, Hoth Soldiers, Endor Commandos, Snowtroopers, etc, they could just ship them until the end of time. Hell, they could ship solid cases of SA army builders.

In my opinion, there should always be good guys and bad guys on the pegs.
Title: Re: New Ultra Clone shots at JD.com!
Post by: Brian on December 12, 2003, 12:13 PM
I agree LandotheScoundrel, I really think going towards this Clone-style of figure is a step towards the "ultimate" versions of characters we've always talked about wanting Hasbro to put out.  I guess we probably said the same thing during vintage times, then during POTF2 times, but I really don't see a whole heck of a lot further they can come in the sculpting area in this scale...at least in the next 5 years or so.  But, maybe I'm wrong and it can get much better.  Heck, I think these newer figures (as well as the POTJ line) were worlds better than most of POTF2, and those were better than vintage in many regards.  Let's hope this is the first step to making the "ultimate", articulated, sculpted, neutral, no action-featured versions of our favorite characters :).  If they did that, they could re-release and repackage without as much of an outcry I would think....if they were figures like this clone, that basically made everyone happy :).
Title: Re: New Ultra Clone shots at JD.com!
Post by: Jesse James on December 12, 2003, 04:00 PM
I'd personally give up some aesthetics for poseability.  But still, I think ball/socket joints can look decent on figures who aren't armor clad.

Screen Scene Mace looks ok to me, Bespin Luke's ball/socket joints as mentioned above, etc...

The Rebel Fleet Trooper's bulky pants would hide a knee joint well I think, and his vest would covera shoulder joint fairly well enough I believe...  Not when it's taken off, but really how many people have their RFT's without vests on?

On the necks of non-armored figures I'd take the regular swivel joint if it was that big a deal to everyone even, just so long as the figure(s) had all the other articulation (and maybe even a little extra like ball/socket hips even for some figures).

To me, looks are important but some looks should definitely be given up in place of a poseable figure.  Toys are to be more fun than "perfect" in looks I think.  I know I have more fun with something I can pose like those super articulated clones than I do with something that just sits there like Barriss Offee or the clone 3-packs.

I think though, that Hasbro's proven they're capable of both looks and outstanding articulation at all points, they simply don't put that effort forward.  So maybe we'll see more super articulated figures in the near future that show Hasbro's best efforts?

At least maybe in the army builder, and possibly Jedi areas?

Exactly.  It would've been nice to have seen an inner thigh ball-socket joint with this latest CT fig.  Still, it is a great figure.  Hasbro has finally realized that loads of articulation on an army builder is a good thing.  It's a shame that it's not a standard.

If we don't get a Stormtrooper like that in the next year or two, I'm going to kill somebody.

And, thank God for the VOTC Stormtrooper, because--hey--I'm a man of my word.  I would have done it.  Just think:  Uma Virex in Kill Gregg.

Back to the SA Clone:  I went back and found the original thread at my Oklahoma City collecting board which tipped me off to these things being available:

December Wal-Mart Finds @ JediOKC.com (http://jediokc.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=272&PN=3&TPN=2)

The time-span of these things hitting--at least based on those reports--was eleven days.  Eleven days.  From 12/7/03 to 12/18/03.

How painful is it to see people describe these things as "still" hanging on the pegs, and for the pegs to be "really full" of them?

And, probably the worst of all, is where I say that I bought my two, and left two others.  Ouch.  I can still see them hanging there, and me, content with the two in my hand, thinking "oh, they'll be all over the place after a while, hell yeah."

Nice job, Hasbro.

There once was a toy company from Pawtucket. . .

I found 6 in about a week or so always leaving at least 1 behind, traded for 3 more and am happy with having 9.  The idiocy that knows no bounds though in not always having a good Clone and Stormie on the pegs at all time is pointless...the fact that Hasbro Direct could package 4 of these in White Mailer boxes and charge up to $25 a pop is a goldmine...idiots

Also, I'd MUCH rather have the fancy ankle joint (the reason there is no peg hole)  that the peg hole!

And now that we have VOTC, we know that's just a myth.   :)

You can have a fancy ankle joint AND a peg hole.

I have to thank Vator, who is sending me a FREE one for helping him track down some cheap VOTC on eBay, as well as other etail sites. I can't wait until he arrives. He'll be fighting with one of my VOTC Stormies...

What are you talking about?

The Clone comes from Vator's personal collection.

The VOTC came from OhMyGodCheapNewFiguresOnline.com and BigBadToyStore.com, but they've been sold out for weeks now. Looks like eBay is your only choice. :-\
