Title: Hasbro's Vintage Conversation Q3 - Vehicles
Post by: Rob on March 1, 2018, 01:19 PM
They're asking about vehicles now... I haven't chimed in but I'm leaning towards a better scaled Sith Infiltrator, Krennic's Ship, and Ghost.

I keep forgetting about the Ghost.

I went with: U-Wing, FO Troop Transport and the Resistance Bomber.

The Ghost, TIE Defender, Kylo Ren's Shuttle

This one is kind of tough.  There are loads of vehicles that would make interesting choices.  And I was even able to find an old Most Wanted Vehicles post (https://www.jedidefender.com/yabbse/index.php/topic,17344.msg364301.html#msg364301) that I made about 10 years ago.  It's actually funny to look through this:

EPISODE I
-Naboo N-1 starfighter - w/ vac metal parts, and working droid socket (which would require an R2 unit with telescoping dome) MADE IN 2012, MINUS VAC METAL
-Trade Federation Battle Droid transport - I think this has a much greater likelihood of being made than the MTT.  The MTT is just huge, and this seems like a more attainable goal with some genuine play value.  As for getting my own MTT fix, I think that I might have to make do with tracking down the Pepsi MTT cooler. WHO WOULD HAVE THOUGHT THEY WOULD MAKE THE MTT?!?!
-Gungan Bongo - This plays a  relevant enough role in TPM that it could do well with the kiddie audience

EPISODE II
-Dooku's Solar Sailor
-Republic Gunship - Carrier
-Rickshaw droid

EPISODE III
-Republic Assault Gunboat
-Yoda's Kashyyyk escape pod
-Droid Gunship MADE IN 2011
-Droid Tank MADE IN 2009
-Wookiee Catamaran
-Bail Organa's speeder
-Clone Turbo Tank MADE IN 2009
-Theta class shuttle
-Imperial V-Wing  MADE IN 2009

EPISODE IV
-Imperial Landing Craft
-Rebel Hangar pilot transport  MADE IN 2009

EPISODE V
-Snowspeeder - resized - The snowspeeder is really a small vehicle, and you can see the most striking contrast between the cockpit of the vintage toy (your figures swim in there) and the cramped cockpit of the vehicle in TESB. MADE IN 2010
-Twin pod cloud car MADE IN 2010

EPISODE VI
-Jabba's Sail Barge  ON THE WAY????
-AT-ST - new sculpt - the scenes with Chewbacca and the Ewoks in the AT-ST really showed that the vehicle should be a twin seater.  Given the current state of the AT-AP, a more accurate AT-ST should be an attainable goal.  MADE IN 2009

EXPANDED UNIVERSE
-Ebon Hawk - Why not go for one of the coolest EU ships of all time?

Looking through all of this?  I'm having a tough time finding a good candidate for my list of 3.  Frankly, I'm shocked to see all of the ground that Hasbro covered in the past 10 years.  And what's left isn't super inspiring.  So I think I might swing for the fences here:

-Krennic's Shuttle  - ROGUE ONE
-Rebel Transport  - THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK (but now as a more functional vehicle, rather than a carrying case)
-First Order Troop Transport - THE FORCE AWAKENS
****HONORABLE MENTION:  Blue Leader X-wing - ROGUE ONE - a la the Red 3 X-wing from The Vintage Collection

The Ghost, TIE Defender, Kylo Ren's Shuttle

Went TIE Defender too, then the AT-PT from West End Games (concept art), and lastly a decent Stormtrooper Transport cuz the Rebels toy blows.  I didn’t aim high in vehicle size.  If I did I want to scale starfightets finally.  XWing and YWing.  BWing then.

I still think my #1 want is a more accurate and correctly scaled Skiff (to go with the Barge, duh).

I'd be kind of interested in a Zeta-class cargo shuttle (the Rogue One shuttle the rebels used to land on Scariff).

I'd love a Stormtrooper landing shuttle, like in the background of ANH. Also, a properly scaled Y-Wing and Skiff would be awesome.

I'd also like a rerelease of the 2010 snowspeeder in other Rogue colors. The one we have is Luke's, and it doesn't have the squad markings. Hell, I'd just like to get a few more of them.

How is the scale on the B-Wing? I was watching ROTJ the other day, and it didn't look too far off, but I couldn't be sure. That's a ship I'd like to see return in one of the movies. Didn't get enough screen time, IMO.

The TFA dropship would be kind of cool, I think.
I like the AT-M6 but that would be rather large.
I'd dig the solar sailer.
Updates on Y and B Wings

If I could vote, I'd say:

Imperial Shuttle
Properly colored TIE fighter
X Wing - customizable. (Includes stickers/decals to make your own, i.e. Red 4, Red 6, etc..,

Though a TIE Defender would be pretty sweet as well.

If we going to look at using resources for vehicles, we should try to get some all new ones where we can. So with that in mind...

The Ghost ( from Rebels)
The Twilight ( from the Clone Wars)
Imperial Sentinel Class Landing Craft ( from Rebels and the ANH SE)

Jakku Quadjumper

I think this would be cool.  We don't know anything about it, but it looks like a cool ship that would be a heck of a lot more fun than a Canto Bight Police Speeder *yawn*.

It's tough, since they've covered much of the OT pretty well at this point. I agree with Jeff's choice of a new Skiff though.

The Ghost
Tattooine Skiff
AT-M6

I just saw some promos for the REBELS finale, and it got me thinking.  Not about the Ghost, which I would love, but I think might be a potential  HasLab candidate.  But it was actually about the Imperial Gunship (http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Patrol_transport).  It seems like it might work in the Hasbro realm.

Was never a fan of the Imperial Gunship. Something about it just felt off. There's a missing link in Imperial/FO vehicles that I always thought odd; you have shuttles and fighters, and AT-ATs, but no dedicated troop transport (unless I missed something). The one in the ST is fine, and I like the fact it echoes the Higgins boats, but I think design wise there should be some linkage. The cargo shuttle from RO is actually closer to what I'd imagine. That ship is great, and would make for an impressive toy.

I would love to see the Ghost though.

The rickshaw droid would make a perfect small vehicle pack.

FO trooper transport

So I'm late to the game with Star Wars Rebels, but man, that show is awesome. I'd buy the Ghost and the whole ******* crew.

It's not a list of three, but here are the vehicles I'd like to see...

• Correctly scaled Skiff
• Correctly scaled Y-Wing
• Imperial troop transport (ANH, Rebels)
• Imperial Shuttle (I think the size is ok with the exisiting, but the interior and landing gear needs retooling)
• B-Wing
• AT-PT
• Darth Vader's TIE (retooled interior, remove the gun action feature)

I know most of us already have some form of it, but how long has it been since we got a version of Luke's X-Wing? I don't mean the non figure compatible one that came out around Rogue One, but the regular version. It is one of the most recognizable ships of the Saga, he uses it in all three original movies, and it seems like it has been a bit since release (unless I am forgetting).

I know vehicles are few and far between now, especially if there isn't a new movie to promote it. I wouldn't mind seeing this get an update/re-do at some point. I currently have the Dagobah version on display, and also own the POTF2 FX version and the Wedge Antilles exclusive.

Brian, have you seen the DeAgostini 1:18 scale X-Wing model (https://www.deagostini.com/uk/collections/buildx-wing/).  Someone I know was brave enough to plunk down the money to buy into this model.  Looks to be the most amazing 1:18 X-Wing yet with moving parts and lights and sounds.

I saw this Yakface Rumor Report (http://yakfaceforums.com/main/2019/01/07/rumor-report-new-vintage-collection-vehicles/) about some new TVC vehicles.

3 x TVC vehicles in the 2019 line.  Two are from the Original Trilogy and one is from Episode IX.  I was somewhat struck by the omission of the word NEW from the posting.  My guesses?

ORIGINAL TRILOGY
Darth Vader TIE Fighter - Hasbro has been kind of recycling the POTF2 Vader TIE for some time.  And considering how Hasbro has been systematically working their way through updating the various TIE Fighters with better paint apps, more detailed cockpits and ejector seats, the Vader TIE seems to be next in line for an update.

For the other vehicle?  I think there are a few possibilities.
A-Wing - The A-Wing seems to be more in circulation lately.  An updated version was in The Last Jedi and there was a prototype version on Rebels.  An OT version hasn't been offered since about 2008.  And it has never been offered in The Vintage Collection packaging.  If Hasbro wants to circle back and finally release the A-Wing pilot that was originally slated for release around 2013 or 2014, they could certainly pair that figure up with this release.
Y-Wing - We've gotten a number of Y-Wings over the years, but by and large they have all been based on the vintage Kenner toy.  I would personally like to see this happen.  And a new version *MIGHT* be in order, but I'm not holding my breath since there was one released in the TVC line around 2011.
Luke Skywalker's Red 5 X-Wing - This might be what we get.  And it's basically because there has not been a Luke Skywalker X-Wing in circulation since 2006.  That version was from TESB.  The TVC Red 3 version (Biggs Darklighter) was the most recent incarnation and that got released in 2013.  This one had the targeting computer and is the most up to date OT X-wing.  And there has never been a Luke Skywalker X-Wing in the TVC line.  Considering those factors?  I think this is one of the most likely OT possibilities.

EPISODE IX
This is incredibly open ended since we really haven't seen much except from Episode IX so far.  My guess here?  Maybe Poe has a new ship since his Black Leader T-70 X-Wing was taken out by Kylo Ren when he blew up the hangar on the Raddus in TLJ.  An upgraded X-Wing might be a possibility since the Resistance was flying T-70's, but the New Republic was flying T-75's.  The other option that might be a possibility is if Rey gets a ship of her own.

Don't forget his original rumor report back in November 2018 (http://yakfaceforums.com/main/2018/11/01/rumor-report-tvc-looking-forward-to-the-past/) -

"Hasbro undoubtedly had bantha (http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Bantha-II_cargo_skiff)-sized plans"
and
"Hasbro has been hinting in interviews that they’re looking at getting the X-wing back out in TVC packaging."

Wow, I must have missed that (The holidays took their toll on me).  Glad to see my deductive reasoning may have nailed down the X-Wing.  Maybe Hasbro wants to save the Vader TIE for another year...

Getting the Skiff back into circulation is a great tie-in with the release of the Sail Barge.  I wonder if they're going to release it in POTF style packaging?

Title: Re: Hasbro's Vintage Conversation Q3 - Vehicles
Post by: Mister Skeezler on January 8, 2019, 02:47 PM
The skiff definitely seems likely, with the Sail Barge coming out. They're guaranteed to sell 1 or (more likely) 2 for each person who bought a sail barge. I wonder if they're counting the sail barge as one of the vehicles?

I would love an update to Vader's TIE or the Y-Wing. Either one would be an instant buy. I'd also really love a new B-Wing.
Title: Re: Hasbro's Vintage Conversation Q3 - Vehicles
Post by: Brian on January 9, 2019, 07:41 PM
I'd sort of like to see a new Y-Wing as well. The couple I've picked up over the years (aside from the CW bomber), and it never seemed real solid to me. The rear landing gear on mine always collapse. Also wouldn't mind seeing Luke's X-Wing again too....or the skiff (which could use a re-do probably too). Really I'd probably buy about any OT vehicle they would put out in that packaging. 🙂
Title: Re: Hasbro's Vintage Conversation Q3 - Vehicles
Post by: Matt_Fury on January 10, 2019, 01:07 PM
There was a way to fix the rear landing gear on the Y-Wing.  IIRC, it involved taking it apart and swapping the "gears".
Title: Re: Hasbro's Vintage Conversation Q3 - Vehicles
Post by: Darth_Anton on January 12, 2019, 12:14 PM
I'd take a new Y-Wing, though I like having 4 unique fighters that we have now.

My chief vote is what I had been saying - X-Wing with decals/stickers to create custom fighters - Red 4, 6 etc. But, I'd take Red Leader and Red 2 re-do's as well.

Would LOVE a new Imperial Shuttle. I wonder if it'd be possible to do something modular? -- make an Imperial Shuttle that you can disassemble/reassemble to add a troop transport cabin. I'd buy 2. Could be a great Haslab project.

Re: Darth Vader's TIE fighter, does anyone know if there are any rumors swirling about that one? I'd like to set up the whole "stay in attack formation" configuration, but the POTF2 TIE advanced just looks so dated next to the newer TIE fighters. I can definitely repaint it to be a bit better, but I'd hate to do that if there's one coming down the road.

Man...I'd also love to see a rerelease of the TIE bomber and TIE interceptor (with the new cockpit). My POTJ Interceptor still has the battery back-end.
Title: Re: Hasbro's Vintage Conversation Q3 - Vehicles
Post by: Jesse James on May 21, 2019, 12:03 AM
They did the Interceptor already.  Bomber would make a nice TVC box.  There seems to be a very long standing (as I like to call them, “dartboard rumor”) rumor of a Vader TIE rerelease le a whole new sculpt depending on who is making the claim and at what time.

It is surprising that Vader’s TIE hasn’t been out in a while seeing how it was a constant there for some time.
Title: Re: Hasbro's Vintage Conversation Q3 - Vehicles
Post by: Mister Skeezler on May 21, 2019, 08:35 AM
Yeah I did a little research yesterday. Looks like the best version of the interceptor was released in the Legacy collection. There was also a "hero" version with the red stripe. The VC version was light grey, which looks cool but isn't screen accurate. I'm going to try to track down one or two of the LC ones (which will **** my wallet, I'm sure). Hopefully they'll rerelease that color someday.

I'm also really hoping for Vader's TIE. I'm going to repaint my POTF2 version to be grey so it's screen accurate, but the cockpit is such garbage. We have pretty ample screentime to see what Vader's cockpit looks like, and that ain't it

Clearly we now know that one of the OT vehicles is the upcoming Skiff.  As for the other pending OT vehicle?  Who knows.  I'd still like to see the Darth Vader TIE Advanced X-1 redone from the ground up.

In light of this thread getting bumped up, it has me wondering about what the TVC vehicle from The Rise of Skywalker will be, especially now that we've had time to look at both the poster and the trailer.  That First Order TIE Interceptor seems like a prime candidate.  And we also saw an A-Wing in at least a couple of scenes.  Plus the poster has three Rebel fighters - X-Wing, Y-Wing and an A-Wing.  Then there are the First Order fighters, including that new TIE Interceptor variant.  The options certainly seem to have opened up significantly.

One of the biggest reasons I haven't yet collected the Sequel Trilogy figures is the lack of decent vehicles. IMO vehicles are a huge part of the magic for 3.75" Star Wars collecting, and the ST really doesn't have anything there. If Poe had an XWing in the same scale as the larger OT Xwings and the TIE fighters were a decent scale like the large wing TIEs, I would bite the bullet.

Vader's TIE though...I need me that thing. And I agree...ground up.

Though on the topic of OT starfighters, Vader's TIE, an all new large YWing and an all new Bwing would be a perfect finish. I think I could call the OT done at that point, at least for onscreen representation.

Sure, I'd love an Imperial Shuttle with a better interior, but I can live with what I have.

I know the rumor is around vintage vehicles, but I'd much rather have a Luggabeast, Quadjumper, or something all new from the sequel trilogy.  I hope there are rumors about that stuff.

I really hope the new one is something cool.  OT era is my preference in general.  I’m not opposed to a Vader TIE redo and that would be cool but I guess it’s just not super high on my list.  I’d take it gladly though as the current one could use some work.

Here a question: would you be interested in CW era vehicles with OT markings? I love the way the Juggernaut showed up in Rogue One, and I always felt like the Empire would probably use some of those vehicles still. Hell, I'm sure the Rebel Alliance would make use of any old Republic Gunships they happened to find. Or even a TF tank. One thing I like about the game Empire at War is the PT-ish vehicles that show up. They look like refitted CW vehicles.

Obviously these would be repaints. Not high on my list, but something that could be cool without eating into the tooling budget.

Any properly scaled vehicle that's never been made at the right size would be cool to me... honestly it's not OT but Sith Infiltrator comes to mind first when I think of vehicles that could use a scaling up.
