I snagged an R5 off of eBay the minute that episode aired.  It cost me a little under $30 with shipping.

So, Hasbro will probably re-release it on a Mando card pretty soon for the low low price of $17 plus tax.

I *think* R5-D4 is the start of a new 2024 wave.  I'll move this post if we find out he belongs in an earlier wave.  Pre-order tomorrow, 1pm ET.

It's somewhat updated.  The VC040 R5-D4 is the B-A-F astromech body and has the two holes that are lower on the body.  This new R5-D4 gets rid of those, much like a more recent version of R2-D2 got rid of them, too.  But someone also made the observation that the promo photos don't show the 3 x red back panels that R5 is supposed to have.  I'm hoping that Hasbro can fix that.

Once upon a time I might have preordered that case blind.  But the case packs are just such a PITA with them being limited to a total of 8 figures.

Fyi… if you’re like me and didn’t pre-order thinking it was a straight re-release, Yakface is reporting Hasbro is adding the red stripes to the back of the ‘new’ R5. 

Is this the right thread for R5?  The master list sent me here but there don’t seem to be any posts about him or mentions…

Here is the press blurb from Hasbro:

We wanted to share an update with you regarding the design of the recently announced Star Wars: The Vintage Collection R5-D4 figure. Based on fan feedback, we became aware that the figure as revealed did not include the distinct three red stripes on the back of his drum. We are excited to share that the figure is in the process of being updated and when shipped, will have the three red stripes included on the figure.

I wish they’d wearher him so it actually looks like R5 in Mando… he’s pretty distinctively damaged including soot from his bad motivator mishap in ANH.

They’re saving that for another release so the paint variant people will buy him again.
