Watto's Junk Yard / Re: any lawers from NJ here---help
« on: January 23, 2004, 05:38 PM »
You're in Jersey?  They have real crime there, right?

I'm a lawyer in Utah, and as hard up as we are for real crime (freaky-ass fundamentalist kidnappers aside), even we don't throw people in jail for avoiding semaphores (that's lawyer for "stoplights").

You're not going to go to jail, you'll get a fine...probably the $50 if this is your first traffic infraction.

Nicklab, my big brother just loaned me that cd...it's awesome.  Kinda Brian Jonestown Massacreish.

Other than that, I've been listening to:

and

(as much as I dig this posting the album covers thing, some people may not know that this one's "Animals" by Pink Floyd)

and my perennial favorite:

(sorry this is so huge, but I want you all to see it so you can go out and buy it)

Holy crap...did I miss the other three horsemen of the apocolypse?  The best Cure song in a decade is on the new Blink 182 album.  Robert Smith--yes, that Robert Smith :o--sings lead vocals on "All of This," and it's a pretty good song (and not just because it doesn't mention poo or pee or farts).

In fact, the whole album isn't all that bad.

Watto's Junk Yard / Re: Top Ten Albums of All Time...By Rolling Stone

I'm not a big Beatles fan, and I think that in some ways, they're almost overrated (I like them, though, I really do), but I'd still have to agree with the #1 spot going to Sgt. Peppers.  When you consider the songwriting and sonic innovations of that album, as well as the way it changed the landscape of rock music, not to mention the position the band was in at the time...yeah, it's probably the best, if not the most important, album of all time.

My qualm, however, comes with #2.  I have never, ever understood what makes "Pet Sounds" so great.  I've listened to it several times, and I just don't get it.  But cooler people than me dig it, so maybe I'm just missing something.

I'm anxious to see the whole 500-album long list on Friday, but if it's anything like their best singles of all time, I'll probably be groaning a lot.  And if there's a single Britney Spears record on there, I'm cancelling my subscription.

BTW, you got a real name?  We love to use those around here, ya' know.    Or Sprry will suffice, if you prefer...  I see you already discovered our newest gift to our members as well - the word "ass".  Looks like you'll fit right in...

Thanks for the welcome.  I've lurked here on and off since it started, but wasted most of my time on one of the other two sites.  I figured I'd finally grace you all with my presence ;).

My real name's Ryan, by the way, and I'll answer to either.

Daaa-yum...what kind of radio stations do they have where you are?

I should have known a commie bastard like you would be into Consolidated, too.  ;)  I'm not familiar with some of those bands, but if "birds of a feather," then I'll have to check them out.

As for me, right now, I've been listening to "Lost Dogs," as well as giving the Dandy Warhols "Welcome to the Monkey House" another shot...but so far I still think it sucks.

I'm new here, but some people might recognize my stupid-ass name from Rebelscum and/or Galactic Hunter.  But this 12 point list can serve as an introduction to those people that don't know me.

1. I think Asajj Ventress is the best Star Wars action figure ever.

2. I love the band Tool.

3. I've been a vegan for the past 8 years.

4. I've been married for a little over five years to my former boss.

5. My former boss and I have two kids together--a four year old daughter named Lily and a five-and-a-half week old son named Zach.

6. I'm a lawyer and have no idea how I ended up as one, but I like it.

7. I take music very seriously, even though I can't play any instruments.  I'm an elitist when it comes to the bands I listen to and I will genuinely hate a person if he or she listens to crappy music.

8. I have two cats--Sadie and Sophie.

9. I suck at math...I can barely add.

10. I was an art major for my first year of college until I finally accepted the fact that I suck at that, too.

11. I once contracted a scorching case of scabies from a filthy Texaco gas station toilet in Guyana, South America.

12. I do not and will never own a microwave.
